USB disconnection issue - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi,
I have using the Tab 10.1 I/O version for a few days now.
I have found that the USB connection is not stable for me. When I try to send a file either by windows driver o by ADB, it stops unexpectedly sometimes. Others not.
But if the file is big enough (around 1Gb) it almost always happens.
Does it happen to you?
regards!

Your farther than I got, my windows 7 machine and my Mac can't see my IO tab.
SGT 10.1 uplink initiative

@moonzbabysh, did you install the drivers from the root folder. It should help for sure.
@wjax, I did copy a movie with no problem and I am not sure what would be the problem...
Only thing I figured(non related) is that USB attached to your computer do charge the battery if you turn off the screen.(takes longer but does it)
Another annoying thing is that everytime you want to go to USB debugging, you have to unplug from file sharing and then re-plug in and that is for lack of SD-card I assume.
I am on Win 7 x64

Sorry mate I can only say that on my 10.1v its working perfectly....any help I can give you just ask
Thanks

Yes I did and still no luck, apparently though it's a problem with some of the io tabs

Anyone get it to sync with their mac

I downloaded the android mac tool and it still doesn't read my tab 10.1. It reads and connects my xoom but not the galaxy tab.
Not compatible with Mac (yet? ever?). I've actually had to go dig an old XP HDD out of storage so that I can adb and transfer files back and forth.
that sux balzzz
No luck for me either...
Doesn't work for me either. After doing the 3.1 update for my LE Tab tonight I tried the Android File Transfer program with "usb debugging" both enabled and disabled but with no luck either way. I even tried re-downloading the Android File Transfer app from Google but it's the same version that's been up there since April.
Any Mac folks have a workaround besides using the painfully slow ddms debugger interface or doing network-based transfers (like smb or ftp)?
I think you need to use this. I haven't tried it yet though.

Hasn't worked for me either. I'm assuming that Android should the update to the app ready by next week for the Tab's wide release but that's wishful thinking. What about the Xoom and Transformer owners who also got the 3.1 update.:-\
Wait is this for real... A friend of mine and I just got ousr at the NY event, but a friend has to ship them to us. Will it not work with Macs? My friend has a Mac book... This would be terrible news...
At the moment, no it does not sync with Macs. Th Android File Transfer app hasn't been updated yet with the proper "drivers" to sync with Mac, but it should get updated soon. This isn't a "forever" type deal
I picked mine up yesterday, no syncing. Kies doesn't even recognize the device yet. Works with windows 7 though.
Interestingly, Adobe Lightroom is able to find the tab on my macbook.
I would just keep checking here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510MAVXAB
They had a Mac version that I downloaded before they took it down and it works. Not sure exactly why they took it down. Sorry I didn't save the dmg file.
i'm on the same boat, my xoom was working fine with SL, but my SGT doesn't work
I have been using FTP (SwiFTP on the marketplace) to transfer files until samsung or google get this fixed. I find this to be a ridiculous problem to be having.
Also, I tried Samsung Kies BETA for Mac and no dice.
From the official twitter feed:

@NoLeftTurns You're welcome! Glad your enjoying it! Kies for Mac will be here soon, we'll keep you posted! =) ^Sabrina

I'd prefer Kies-less entry honestly. (sorry for the pun...i had too ) I've been using ES File Explorer to connect to my NAS device and grabbing files from there. Far from ideal, but it could be worst
I just downloaded the latest version of kies and it seems to be working fine on my 2011 macbook pro... anyone know why the GT won't charge when it is plugged in, tho? i just have a red X over the battery...

I think i read somewhere what the SGT cant charge it with the usb cable connected to a computer port, my SGT indicate the same X with my MBP.
The kies app with the least samsung drivers works fine, but is bad i cant mount the sdcard like a hd storage.

Am I Missing Something? WTF? How Do I Connect to a Computer?

Love the device. Great build, feels nice - just like everyone else says.
Why would anyone release a device that can't connect to a computer to transfer files? Am I missing something? I've tried connecting on Mac and Windows and searched high and low for drivers, tips, tricks, etc. Don't tell me Dropbox or some other back door solution. The whole reason I bought Android (I already have 2 ipads) is to eliminate itunes. Why would I want to have to use a software solution to transfer files - I would just stay with itunes if that were the case. I have an EVO 4G that mounts as a hard drive and when I load files the app recognizes (photo, music, video) and plays it. WTF!!!!!!
Can someone help? NO I AM NOT INTERESTED IN SOME STUPID WORKAROUND spending 30 hours at the risk of bricking and voiding warranty ending up with some laggy piece of crap custom ROM just to do ONE SIMPLE TASK - DRAG AND DROP! No offense, I respect what you hard cores do. I don't have time. I need $500 devices to work as expected.
Oh yeah, stupid POS wouldn't play an AVI file either. No idea why. Don't really care. It took 2 hours to transfer a file via Dropbox. Not doing that again.
Suggestions welcome. My Samsung Tab 10.1 is currently for sale on ebay. Maybe I'll take it down if some kind soul out there can help me figure this out.
Had the same issue. You just need the correct drivers for your PC. Hope that helps.
Try installing this on your mac - Android File Transfer
For some reason, Honeycomb devices don't mount as regular mass storage device, but rather under the Microsoft MTP protocol (verified when my friend with a mac told me I needed to install the Anrdoid File Transfer when I connected his Xoom to my Win7 laptop. I told him he's crazy, but he didn't know since he never connected his Xoom to a PC running Windows).
Hopefully it's fixed for the retail 10.1 tabs.
If you disable "USB debugging," your PC should recognize it as external storage.
I seem to have having the same problem (10.1).
I installed the samsung mobile drivers, and disable usb debugging.
Now when i plug in my tablet it says connected to samsung kies. On windows i get the pop-up for a usb storage connection, but I cant actually view the files and this doesn't show up in my computer.
Do i have to install samsung kies? I only installed the mobile drivers 'Samsung_USB_Driver_P4_Including_Escape'
Any help?
I installed both. My windows 7 identifies it with a mobile phone icon, but under it the sdcard is identified as a tablet(default name). When i connect it to my pc my GT displays "connected / press home key to quit Samsung kie" so I guess kids is requisite.

Thanks for the help. Installed Android File Transfer but still no luck with debugging on or off. It just says "No Android Device Found"
Maybe I have a bad unit or something?
Are there any Mac users out there that have been able to connect? I also have a Vista PC that I will start toying around with.
Use file manager app and do it wirelessly via wifi
It is easy and you dont need a pc ...
I've been having the same problem. It seems that the Android File Transfer program hasn't been updated since the change to 3.1. I'm pretty confident that it'll be fixed shortly. However this is an Android issue not a Samsung issue- . The Xooms and Transformers are having the same problem.

I'm leaning towards that it's a Samsung issue as my friend has both a Xoom and Transformer on 3.1 and Android File Transfer is working fine for them.
I've the 10.1v and I just plugged the usb cable and I saw the device as an external storage. Probably the problem is limited to the I/O devices.
For Divx try downloading "MoboPlayer". I thnink that the default avi player can play only h.264 files
Uhh from when i got my tab i had this problem as well all i did was go into control panel uninstall the drivers installed from the first time of plugging it in .. Then i went onto the tab disabled debugging and connected again let it install its drivers and i was set to go just make sure u have samsung kies installed onto your computer so it can find drivers and once the drivers were installed i went into my computer and it was there named something like pt-901 something lol hopefully this helps..

I still don't know how any OEMs are going to gain traction against Apple among the masses who don't have the patience to figure this stuff out. Luckily I have some time on my hands this weekend!
Dropbox is taking about 30 minutes to transfer a 700MB file from my laptop to my box and then DL to the Tab's memory. Not a great solution. Need to figure out this USB file transfer thing.

What codec was used for your AVI file? Xvid? If so, then that's whack of Samsung to list Xvid and AVI as native support under their specifications.
Do you need to install the Samsung Kies onto every computer you want to transfer files via USB with?
Other Android devices I haven't had to install any third party software for this.
Same here. Every other Android device I've had is drag and drop on both Mac and PC which is the main draw for me. EVO, Archos, etc, etc...
I also thought that Samsung claimed native playback for Xvid AVI files...??? Apparently not.
Finally works!!! While I was messing around with drivers for PC I discovered that Samsung posted and updated (June 9th) version of Kies which allows easy files transfer on Mac. Problem solved.
Now I just need to figure out how to charge over USB so I don't have to lug this brick of an AC adapter around and I'm converted!

Galaxy 10.1 not recognized by Windows XP

I just plugged my Galaxy 10.1 into my Window XP computer, and I initially got a message that new hardware is found, but the hardware wizard launches and says it can't find the appropriate drivers. When I go into My Computer, there is no drive icon for my tab (yes, I have the USB cable plugged in).
Can anybody tell me what to do so I can transfer some videos to my tab?
Thanks.

I'm now getting a message to "Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies."
I must be dumb.
So, the Samsung galaxy 10.1 currently doesn't function correcty as mass storage device when connected to win xp, and Samsung acknowledges this when I supoke with their tech support. It does work properly when connected to Win 7 (and Vista according to Samsung tech support).
see original thread regarding this @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178458
It does not function as a USB Mass Storage class device EVER under ANY operating system. (If it supported USB Mass Storage, it wouldn't need drivers and it would work without any effort on XP. That is the definition of the USB Mass Storage class.)
It is an MTP device - unfortunately only Vista/7 support MTP.
There is a workaround - Droid Explorer at http://de.codeplex.com/ provides a nice user interface layered over ADB (USB Debugging mode). ADB is much more widely supported than MTP.

After spending much of the day researching this problem on many forums, the solution turned out to be a simple one. In fact, I can't believe nobody chimed in with the answer.
I'm going to post the fix here now for the benefit of others who might have this file-transfer problem. If your (Windows 7, Vista) computer won't recognize your Galaxy Tab, on the tab go into your Settings, Applications, Development, and uncheck USB debugging. It is as simple as that. Now when you plug in your tablet, your computer will immediately recognize it. Open up My Computer on your computer, and double-click on the tablet icon (mine is actually a phone icon). Drag and drop files into the window and wait for them to transfer (note: video files take a long time).
Have fun.

[Q] USB connection to Win7 laptop?

I can't seem to make the USB connection between my 7.7lte tab and my Win7 laptop. I want to xfer my music (16GB) and don't want to waste time over wifi to do it -- anyone else having this problem?
Brian
Try installing Samsung Kies. That should provide Windows with the drivers it needs to see the 7.7 as an MTP device.
http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
Thanks
Brian
I don't believe that Windows 7 needs additional drivers. Since the first time I connected my device I am able to transfer files between two Tab and my PC. If your PC is set to install drivers automatically (default option) you should not have problems seeing it as a connected "Portable Device".

It may be an issue with my Win7 laptop. I replaced the HD a week or so ago and cloned the original HD using Acronis but Windows update no longer works so it may be something broken with my laptop. I'll swap back the original HD and see if that helps...

Your Tab also should be unlocked...if mine is on the lockscreen when I plug it in to my Win7 laptop I have to unlock it before Windows sees it.

I definitely don't have this issue; I just turn the screen off immediately after it pops on from being plugged in. It shows up in windows explorer after maybe 10-15 seconds.

My Galaxy S4 won't stay connected to the computer via USB

Hey all. Just got my Galaxy S4 today and I was loving everything about it until... right now. For some reason, the darn USB won't stay connected to the computer. It doesn't matter if it's simply plugged into the computer as an "installer" or as a media device. It'll constantly disconnect and reconnect itself, even when I'm not transferring any files.
It's not the my computer/USB ports, either, since I can transfer files between my HTC Thunderbolt and Nexus 7 fine. I've also tested 2 other USB cables and they all behave the same way.
Anyone know what's going on? Did I get a lemon?
No im in the same boat. Was trying ti connect in today. I reinstalled and un installed the drivers about 4 times. Tried un selecting usb debugging in developers menu. Installed kies and used the drivers from it still no good. Used 3 different usb leads. Phone will still charge from pc and even when im installing the drivers again and connect the phone it will say that your new device is ready to use but still cant access phone, it simply does not show up.
Wouldn mind was working 2 days ago fine. Same usb port and all. And the port is fine cause my old s3 still reads from the same port.

I have also been dealing with this for a while now. I have Windows 7 64bit and I have reinstalled the drivers many times through Kies and manually. It seems like the problem is getting worse since initially I could do some file transfer through usb if i fiddled with the device (changing usb ports, unplugging it, etc). Now I am hard pressed to get it to show up on the computer through MTP at all.
This is quite annoying since I am developing an android app and I need a usb connection in order to test it. A fix would be awesome.
I just tested on my sister's laptop and it doesn't have this problem. I clicked around the phone, transferred a 10gb movie, and left it plugged in to see if there were any signs of disconnects. None whatsoever. Odd. Maybe Galaxy S4 just doesn't like something with our computers. This is quite annoying.
I have a fresh Windows 7 64-bit partition I installed the other day so I'll test it out on that and report the results later today.

Oops, missed your post. Unfortunately, it disconnects regardless of the phone's state.
My friend's S4 was doing the same thing on his desktop. Every time he would try to transfer pics the phone would disconnect after a few files.
I tried different things from reinstalling drivers to trying to only copy over a couple of files at a time, nothing worked.
Finally I plugged his phone into one of the back usb ports and transferred over 2gb with no problem and no disconnects since.
My guess is the S4 is a power hog and some usb ports just don't supply enough juice. Try plugging it in to a usb port that comes off a motherboard. Don't use the front ports or usb hubs. Hope this helps someone.

I've been trying all kinds of different combinations of USB leads, phone settings and ports all morning and was just about getting ready to start a new Olympic sport of S4 hurling when I came across this post and plugged my USB straight into the back of my machine and it finally works!! Thank you dirrtpoor for your input - a simple fix, but nevertheless it worked.:good:
I suppose it makes sense that a quad core 1.9Ghz phone would be a power hog.
It wouldn't work on my home PC whatever I tried. Front or back USB ports.
On my dads PC sometimes it would display OK and other times "usb device has malfunctioned" (didn't try the rear USB port)
On my work PC it works fine on the rear ports.
I was having the same problem a few days ago, but then I reformatted the SD card, now everything seems OK.
Even the stock gallery app works now...?!

This may be laughably obvious but I'm a former Apple user, which has it's own dedicated USB connector, so I forget sometimes with the Samsung S4, which has a standard (looking) micro USB connector that I need a USB cable that is enabled for syncing as well as charging...not all USB cords with micro connectors on the phone end will carry the data because I imagine Samsung has made their phone's connector require a different wiring in the cable.
I was pulling my hair out yesterday trying to figure out why the computer wouldn't see the phone..then looked at the USB cable and realized I'd plugged a non-syncing cable in. I tried the cable that came with the phone and bingo, worked like it was supposed to.
Hope this helps, sometimes it's the little things we overlook that drive us nuts.
Any way to connect in master storage with out root.

Use a different usb cable and usb port. I know it sounds stupid but there has definitely been phantom problems which were solved this way, even with something as simple as adb commands
