[Q] Partitioning SD card - Atrix 4G General

What is the preferred partitioning configuration of the SD card for the Matrix 4g?
In a previous phone, I had a 16GB card from which I allocated 1.5GB as an extended partition. I was using Link2SD. I am getting a new card (32GB Class 10) to use in this phone and want to make the best use of this massive storage device.
Is an extended partition even necessary under 2.2+? If so, should it be FAT32 or a Linux-type (Ext2,Ext3,Ext4)?

1) no custom kernel = no app2ext (old style apps to sd)
2) Froyo has its own app2sd which allows some apps to store most of their data on sd card.
3) you have a lot of space for apps on internal storage.

[Q] SD Card Space

My nook has 7.0.3 encore stable, 4 GB card, and I was wondering if there was a way to increase the SD card space in Android to greater than 39 MB.
On my computer, I did extend the partition, but the extended area shows up as the internal storage, and I need the SD card space for some apps.
thanks
R u running CM7 from eMMC or booting it off uSD?
Do pls indicate clearly
I am booting CM7 off of the uSD card
If so, you should have at least 110MB+ space on "boot", roughly about 1GB for /data and /system and the rest, probably 2GB+ left over, for your own use.
Use a tool such as Minitool Partition Wizard, to extend the 4th partition on your SD card all the way to the max. You should get roughly over 3 GB of space on a 4GB card when running off uSD.
what I'm talking about is the "virtual" SD card that android recognizes. I did extend the fourth partition, but the space for my stuff goes under internal storage. is there a way I can make some of that space go under SD card that android recognizes?
did you ever get an answer or figure this out? I have been searching for 2 days and cannot find info on which partition CM7 thinks is "the phone" for the purpose of installing apps. I get 2-3 on then it says I am out of space.
Yes, when I used a 32 gB card, the internal storgae partition was about one gb, and my SD card partition (inside android) was 28 gb
So I guess it would depend on the sizeof your SD card?
Thanks for this thread guys!!
Minitool partition allowed me to upgrade my 8Gb microSD to at 32Gb microSD.
Now I can REALLY load those PDFs, ebooks, and music onto my Nookcolor's Android C7.

[Q] increase device internal memory with sd card.?

Good day
I have European device with limited memory
I want to know if there's a way to use the sd card storage to increase the total size of the device memory
Thanks
Most roms support app2sd or data2sd,, backup your SD card, enter cwm, advanced, partition SD card. This creates a partition on your Sd card formatted EXT format, which the system will use as internal memory without you doing anything.
I dunno if you can force your already installed rom to move stuff to the SD, or if you have to reflash to activate it.
When its active, you should make sure all your apps are set to use phone memory not SD card, if you click "move to SD card" it takes them out of the ext partition and puts them to the fat partition, thus defeating the object of the ext.

Partion SD or not

Do i have to partition sd card on hd2 because i use a 2g card and when i partition it i lose storage space
no you dont have to partition it, only if you intend to use either data/apponEXT type scripts to increase internal storage (apps run better from EXT than being moved to sd in the normal way)
If you have a tmous then no, I wouldn't bother. If you have reg, i used to have a 1/2 gig ext on a 2gb card and moved only the data/apps to EXT, not the whole data partition.
i would say use partition sd.
i used every time it give more space and run faster.
sry for my bad englis.

It depends on the ROM you are going to use. My guess is your 2g microsd card is old and not speedy (lower than class 6). I recommend you to install light-weighted ROM, i.e. CM7 (android 2.3.7). If you try Sense ROM, you have to cut a EXT partition. You will also noticed some slowdown of the system.

(PROBLEM I9500)the sd-ext partition could not be located mounts2sd

Hey I wanna use mounts2sd app in order to move applications to my sd card (apps like facebook, google chrome and other unmoveable apps)
but once I launch the application it says:
the sd-ext partition could not be located mounts2sd
I get similar error using Link2sd app:
second partition not found link2sd
What to do?
several information about my phone:
- Galaxy s4 gt-i9500
-EXTERNAL SD CARD: 32GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSDHC MicroSD Card Class 10 UHS-U1
-Build number: JDQ39.I9500UBUBMH1
-Based version: UBUBMG9
-Fully rooted. superSU fully updated
-both application gained root access.
-using Crash ROM V8 (sep 2013)
-Using Presus kernel alpha9
-init.d script is fully supported, installed, and working
-Busybox is supported, installed and working
(crash rom supports Busybox and inti.d script)
thanks for helping :fingers-crossed:

Is your SD card partitioned ? If not, this is normal from Link2SD.
Your problem is that your SD card is not mounted at all (no /storage/ExtSdCard folder).
Did you try your SD card with another device ?
Unfortunately, some users report problems with ScanDisk SD Cards on Samsung devices, it may also come from the brand.

thanks for answering
I dont think my SD card is partitioned.. i mean I have never changed/ created anything.. should it b partitioned automatically or i should change something? cuz i havent changed anything..
so anyway, how do I partition my sd card?
thank you very much
SD card partition is made with a Partition wizard tool on a PC with memory card reader. You can also use CWM recovery.
SD card partition erases the whole content of the SD card, so be sure to make a backup before.
For low end devices with few internal memory, it can be useful to create a 2nd partition on the SD card to link applications into it and save place in internal memory (link2SD does it perfectly).
But for our devices, i'm not sure this is useful because internal storage is quite big already.
You can still move applications on the SD card with link2SD (it does not need 2dn SD card partition to work anyway) :
select the app in the list, then select "move to SD card"

[Q] how to use app Data from External micro SD

I want to use app data from sd card (since internal memory is just 4.2 gb including application storage and data as well) what should i do, Am i suppose to do swapping ?? or some thing else?? kindly help..
I'm not sure what you mean, but if you're running low on internal storage, here's what I did for a fix:
First, apply one of the myriad of options for allowing any app to read/write the external SD.
Get the xinternalsd xposed module.
Tell it to make everything point to the external uSD card.
Then move everything from the internal emulated SD card to the external.
That will probably clear up a ton of space.
If you're still running low, clean up the app caches. If you really have 4GB of apps and data on internal storage, 1GB is probably caches.

Are you rooted? do you have a large SD Card which you do not swap out?
On my previous phone it only had 420MB of user space for apps. I created a 2GB EXT4 partition (could of been 32GB on my 64GB card if I wanted), then used Int2EXT system to move all the apps to the partition on the SD.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Apps2SD (on the Market) performs the same thing, with a front end
