Do i have to partition sd card on hd2 because i use a 2g card and when i partition it i lose storage space
no you dont have to partition it, only if you intend to use either data/apponEXT type scripts to increase internal storage (apps run better from EXT than being moved to sd in the normal way)
If you have a tmous then no, I wouldn't bother. If you have reg, i used to have a 1/2 gig ext on a 2gb card and moved only the data/apps to EXT, not the whole data partition.
i would say use partition sd.
i used every time it give more space and run faster.
sry for my bad englis.

It depends on the ROM you are going to use. My guess is your 2g microsd card is old and not speedy (lower than class 6). I recommend you to install light-weighted ROM, i.e. CM7 (android 2.3.7). If you try Sense ROM, you have to cut a EXT partition. You will also noticed some slowdown of the system.

[Q] I m quite confuse.. may i knw what is the partition SD card for?
i saw ext 3 , ext 4.. what i thi all abt.. i m quite confuse ahaha
so i should use ext 3 or 4?? what diff
Depends on the ROM that you're using. They're used to store your apps that you've downloaded (A2SD+/DATA2SD) and Ext3/4 are just speed variations, I think.

it for storing programs and data on instead of using the internal nand memory which can soon run out if you are using a eu hd2 with only 512
Does it mean that rom with A2SD+/DATA2SD I had to set my card with partition ?

uppppppppppppppppppp
yes, you should create on your sd card a fat partition, and an ext4 (or ext3, shouldnt matter)
then install your fresh nand build, and it will autodetect the ext partition and treat it as phone memory, leaving the fat partition to act as the 'sd card'.
so, when you instal an app, install uit to phone, not sd card, and it will actually end up on the ext partition, and the phone will treat it as if its in its internal rom.
When you browse with a filemanager, you will not see a seperate ext partition, because it is integrated into the system, but you will see an sd card listed, which is the fat partition.
The other plus side is when you install a different rom, when it boots any apps found on the ext partition will already be installed.
This all happens automatically, so long as you have an ext partition, and a rom that supports it. you do not need (and nor should you) go into teh app settings and choose move to sd card. if you do that it will move to teh fat partition, which defeats the object.
Hey,
Yh, I know: another app2sd+ question...
Tried using the search button, but did not find what I was searching for
I'm using the TyphooN CyanogenMod7 RC2 v2.5.5 ROM on my HD2 and was running low on internal memomy and used to send apps to my sd card, but some wouldn't not work and my internal memomery was low on memory.
So I decided to partition my 8GB scandisk sd card:
6.7 gb FAT32 en 800mb ext2
After I did that, I used a clean instal of TyphooN CyanogenMod ROM and everyhting works .
When I go to applications and then applications managing, I see that my internal memory is just 244 mb and my external memory 6.5 gb.
But what I don't understand :
Who do I move downloaded applications from my phone to the ext2 partition on my sd card instead on the fat32 partition ?
Does this (moving to ext2 partition) happen automatically when I download apps and move them to the SD card ?
The ext partition is considered internal, so if you manually move an app to the SD card, it will go from the ext partition to the fat partition and many wont work. When you have an ext partition you don't need to do anything. The rom will use the ext itself.
When you look at internal memory size it wont show the ext space, only the actual internal space. Say you instal a ten Meg app, that figure goes down ten even though its installed to ext, but it will go back up ten next reboot.
Thank you very much !
That was very clear, didn't find this somewhere else
I installed Kyrillos Rom v1.0 and partioned my formatted SD Card in CWM with 1024m for ext3 and 256 for swap. But booted into the OS and there's no extra RAM and it shows no extra storage.
And if I then install an application it still takes up phone memory, and using app2sd to move it to SD Card still puts it on my main SD Partition.
The only thing that changed is now when I remove the SD Card the phone crashes.
Install titanium backup and look for sdcard(app2sd), you will see the extra space..
Kyrillos uses app2sd v2 which doesn't totaly transfer all data to sd ext, a part of internal memory will always be used.. don't worry it wont get full till you indtal ~150 apps

To get apps on the ext3 partition, do I have to use the app2sd app and move apps to SD? Or do I just download like normal and they get put on that partition?
in fact, it hided, you can use R.E. explore or TIback to show swap and app2sd area.
Okay this is strange. Titanium backup is showing an app2sd partition even when I take out my sd card ...
Good day
I have European device with limited memory
I want to know if there's a way to use the sd card storage to increase the total size of the device memory
Thanks
Most roms support app2sd or data2sd,, backup your SD card, enter cwm, advanced, partition SD card. This creates a partition on your Sd card formatted EXT format, which the system will use as internal memory without you doing anything.
I dunno if you can force your already installed rom to move stuff to the SD, or if you have to reflash to activate it.
When its active, you should make sure all your apps are set to use phone memory not SD card, if you click "move to SD card" it takes them out of the ext partition and puts them to the fat partition, thus defeating the object of the ext.
Hi guys, so I backed up my sd card and went on a little quest. Never knew what this did so tried it out, went onto clockwork and did an sd partition of 1024mb. Turned phone on sd card worked fine, tried installing a big game but still it said not enough space when there is 2.5gb empty on sd card. So that failed I went onto MAGLDR and onto services and cleared sd partition. Now I turn phone on and it says no sd card and prompts me to format it on status bar, but then it still doesn't work. Tried mounting it via usb but still the sd card is not showing up. Has my sd card corrupted? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also some instructions on how to properly install apps 2 sd, as just moving to the sd card on settings doesn't fully move the app, some of it still remains in the internal and after installing 50+ apps it comes down to 20mb internal memory and says I have no more internal space.
Regards

if a rom supports a2sd (typhoon, for example,) you do not have to do anything, it will automatically use an ext partition if it finds one.
If you choose 'move to sd card' for an app, it will be REMOVED from the ext partition, and placed on the fat32 partition (where it may not work), so DO NOT choose 'move to sd', all your apps should be set to internal, and the rom will put them in the ext partition.

Well, i would start with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool to format the sd card back to original. Then start from there.

And @samsamuel wouldnt he benefit more from data2ext? From my experiences, that puts EVERYTHING on the ext partition. just puting my two cents in, (its about all i got xP )

Depends on what your needs are, .,,, running everything from the SD means much of the nand is unused, what's the point of that? Typhoon for instance,, 150mb system, say 20mb for cwm and boot, that's (round up) 200mb used out of 512,, nothing is gonna use the other 300mb, so might as well let the data use it.
Right I'm running this ice ROM off the nand: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441462
[22-04-12][ROM] Unofficial AOKP for HD2 [Build 33][4.0.4][tytung_ics_r1]
It does say apps2sd is possible on thread op, so would I just partition my SD card on clockwork to 1024mb then just install apps without moving them to SD manually? Is that really it?

True, thats why i dont use either, i have the Tmous version so i ihave about 760 mb of unused nand. Only way id prolly use a partition is if i got a lot of bad blocks, but i only have about 5 bad blocks right now in just my data partition.

Yes, yes it is just partition sd card using minitool partition or disk utility(linux) and you should be good, i dont believe you have to reinstall the ROM either because apps2sd is an init.d script which gets ran upon boot.
