This might be a hard one, but dammit if I'm gonna try. First off i live in Oregon, Portland area.
My EVO has been a trooper ever since launch day. But, JUST THE OTHER DAY I got the screen and outer gloss casing replaced under warranty. so it looks just DAMN new. pretty much new. So there isn't a scratch at all.
What I'm looking for is a Samsung Epic 4G. It needs to be in good condition, meaning no scratches and the latches need to be flawless, and the keys cant be worn off. My EVO is just as pristine.
I will include the original box and stuff that came with the EVO. Also, a rubber outer case, which I found to be the best for everyday use. My EVO IS ROOTED. So you can have all the fun with that...
Hate Samsung's TouchWiz interface? Give HTC Sense a try! Trust me, its better...
IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT ON ALL THE FROYO ACTION WITH YOUR EPIC, THEN THE EVO IS YOUR THANG!
The only reason I'm doing this is because my mom just got an Epic, and I ended up liking it a lot, and want to make sure i can help her out with it if i ever need too. There is nothing wrong with the EVO.
**If you would like me to install a custom rom on the EVO, I can do that too to sweeten the deal, if you want.** *currently has Cyanogen Mod* tell me what you want, you want stock? Will do. You want stock but rooted? My cup of tea. I'll make sure you going into a new EVO will be a good one.

****. Well, I live in Olympia, WA. Let me think about it a little bit. I'd of course like to meet up somewhere and make the trade. For reference there is one defect with my Epic and that is that the Micro USB port sliding cover thing has been stuck since day 2 of having the phone. Let me know now if that is a dealbreaker but I'd definitely need to think about it.
Also, right now my Epic is running a leaked Froyo build, Mammon's Bonsai4all Rom with ext4 and no journaling, as you can see from my sig its quite blazing (I know people get wierded out by quadrant sometimes but if you go read the thread on bonsai4all you'll see my results are quite typical).
Olympia isnt that bad! Can you post or PM me a picture of the "defect"? Im interested in trading with you and your Epic. I'm free all next week.
I have owned two EVOs in the past one had screen seperation issues, both had at least one dead pixel. Does yours have any of these issues?
none of these issues, as i have a new screen and outter gloss cassing bracket on the EVO.
I am about to trade my epic for a white evo in a 1 hr
I owned a evo since release date but than traded it for the epic but the lack of support from samsung and a couple of bugs,I decided am going back to the evo, hopefully I don't regret it!!!but froyo and possible gingerbread official,I know we have leaked froyo don't tell me that ,but like I said leaked no source code yet so no is not at it full potential....
PM has been sent. .

so are you looking for a trade? Pm me!

Right on, hope it works out for you... i might switch this to local only... because I'm starting to realize the heartache this could be as my EVO is my daily phone.
Epic is good phone but there's more support for the evo,
The EVO has a big Dev community. I'll definitely admit that...

Fresh, cyanogen, regaw,,,all great devs,,,,,the bugs that definitely annoyed me where like when u hit the msg icon it will send u to call log or browser bookmarks,or vise versa u press people icon and I'll send u to msgs, and mo flash player can't watch vids from browser or stream,.....and random black screen freezes and believe am no noob I Odin to d18 dk28 and still ...to be honest if u don't need a physical keyboard stick with the evo!!!!!
No in browser flash streaming?...
I miss the Super amoled screen
Pros:
FFC
HSPA+
LED FLASH
FM RADIO
Physical Buttons + Dedicated Camera Button
Great build quality
Cons:
No Super Amoled Screen
No 16GB Internal Memory
No more Bionix :/
I don't regret it as much but going from a Super Amoled screen to a standard screen really made me realize how great my Sammy Vibe really was! I took it for granted!! You will be missed! (EXCEPT THE GPS ISSUE)
Well i jumped ship.. can't wait for the SGS2 though! Hope to catch up with some of you guys later in the SGS2/HTC SENSATION threads!
Goodbye!
Especially you s15274n. You have been really helpful! Without you knowing. lol
The bionix team and whitehawkxx wish you guys the best.
heading over the the MT4G/Glacier forum now. Peace!
Yeah i feel you man. My wife got a Mytouch 4G and its really nice, i mean really nice, but the Samsung Vibrant has the better screen with the Internal Storage that came way in handy for me. I rooted her mytouch 4g up already and put on some Gingerbread which i love with everything working, and the Vibrant still dont have everything working on Gingerbread. Well i guess ill be seeing you over there. I go from the Vibrant forums to the Mytouch 4g forums, switching out like crazy. =D

Well except for the GPS (which sucks on the Vibrant anyways haha), our CM7 is basically complete.
I'll probably stay with this phone and wait for the Samsung Hercules to come out. ^^

Yeah true its just GPS not working. But also the Battery drain on the phone is terrible, which is really irritating. But once battery drain is fixed then i'll probably be back on CM7 or MIUI.

Battery drain is a problem?
Wait, I have an extended battery, so I completely forgot. *facepalm*
Sucks, but if I didn't have this battery, I always have a place to charge the phone. And I heard the drain isn't as bad as it used to be.

It is still pretty bad...All CM7 running devices have pretty crappy battery-life (I have 3: N1, Vibrant, MT4g.
people you are too impatient. Just when they get the software for the Vibrant Humming you all jump ship.......... Hercules and the S2 will be out in the next 30 days and then, we will have something really to go too.........
Wanting always is better than the having.......... patience

I agree with you, but since i didn't buy a new phone and simply traded i feel that jumping ship wasn't a bad choice. I still plan to upgrade!
Also the MT4G can be resold for a higher price than the Vibrant on craigslist.
BTW... WINNING!
To any CM7 users of vibrant and another phone with CM7(nexus one,MT4g,G2 etc.) are there any other difference in speed? I'm using Cm7 on vibrant but i can't compare it cause it's my only phone.
I picked up a g2 for cheap but still have my vibrant. I don't know what all the fuss was about. This doesn't feel any faster than my kb5 vibrant, and the "build quality" just makes it feel heavy and bulky. Its a decent phone overall, but not any better overall than my vibrant.

Traded the Mytouch 4G for a G2.. G2 is a way better phone than the Mytouch 4G. Some people don't miss keyboards.. but you are crazy not to have a keyboard!! Bought the game gripper and wow.. just wow. The G2 is an overall fun phone and great speed/development/great everything!! Even the hinges on this unit are amazingly stronger than the other g2's i have used.
I really like my wifes mt4g. I began to dislike my G2 before I sold it. It felt like a phone meant for someone that doesn't know how to dress themself. It's hard to explain.
My Vibrant is starting to get old, but I have a sgs4g on the way that should renew my interest in the galaxy line.

Not quite sure what about the SGS 4G would renew your interest in comparison to the Vibrant, unless you are in a 4G area and just really CRAVE the extra bandwidth so much that you won't miss the internal 16GB from the Vibrant (4G only has 1GB internal).. And of course, FFC.... which really AFAIC is a "bell and whistle" that 99% of people use once and never use again.

Add the bad/good screens, dust under the screen issues, bad eMMC chips that are said to cause bricking, creaky buttons on a few units, and off centered FFCs on a few. I wanted to trade as well, but a look at the forums steered me right away.
Well, the only phone I'm moving to when I get the chance is the SGSII, no matter what.
I love HTC phones but plenty of those are CDMA only and that doesnt work in my country :[
I bought the mytouch4g back in January and it was so great to have a phone that worked well right out the box and every custom gingerbread rom I've put on it has ran smoothly. However, I find myself constantly going back to my Vibrant. I miss the screen and I feel like the Vibrant has a lot more devs working on roms. I was just about to sell my Vibrant so I could have a few extra bucks when I read about the GPS fix. If I can find the perfect Gingerbread rom I will be keeping my vibrant until Samsung releases a dual-core phone for T-Mobile.
I've officially handed my Vibrant down to my wife, and in the process I had to ODIN back to stock. HOLY SH!T nuggets, how in gods name did I forget how laggy and slow the stock rom was? And just as I began cursing the phone, I realized just how kick ass all of our devs for this phone have been. I mean just downloading software updates made the phone unusable, and navigating between screens and menu's seemed to be taxing the phone. How could the worlds largest electronics company build such a great device, yet a turd at the same time? I mean this thing is/was like a ferrari with a Mazda5 engine. (I own a Mazda 5, and lets just say it could be peppier). Then out of nowhere our devs showed up and saved the day.
When I got this phone, I had just came off of a G1 (day 1 owner and proud of it) and after having so many issues with flashing roms on that phone I swore I would try to hold off as long as I could before rooting this phone. How was it that I only lasted 2 hours before I ended up rooting the device?
For the one or two of you out there who haven't yet flashed a non-stock rom, grow some balls and get on with it already. You'll be amazed at just how fast your little device can run.
That's it, thanks guys. I'll still be here as I'm going to re-root and flash CM7 back onto it once the mute issue is 100% taken care of. Now onto my new HTC toys. Sammy left a bad taste in my mouth twice already, #neveragain.
The new cm7 nightly seemed to have fixed the mute issue for me (or supervibe7)
Anyways good bye have fun with your phone.

Agreed, the Vibrant Dev Community is awesome!
As for the mute/unmute issue, I still have it with #34. Guess its just hit or miss...
So I'm positive everyone see's this question all the time. But they always judge it on the stock phones. Well I'm looking to get one of these phones, but to ROOT them. Which one do you believe I should get and why? I'm also looking into battery life even though buying an extended battery isn't a problem. Also which rom do you think is best for your pick? Thanks in advance.
Will be posting in both sides to get more answers
Easy answer... look at the topics and responsees in both forums and decide which group you would rather deal with...
And then look at the rom and root options of both. HTC is on a whole nother level.

Do not get the Epic!!!!! I didnt like it as its made like ****. The shift is much faster and even my sister wishes she would have just gotten the EVO and shes not even a power user. HTC makes the best phones on the market and I will always be buying my phones from them.

This. And I own an Epic (my wife has the shift). I'd never trade my Epic in for anything, at least at this point, but yeah the Epic forum is full of complainers, trolls, and guys with tiny wangs (or so I assume with how they have to constantly act like king s**t in the forums all of the time). And shift has a ton more devs, plus working cm7. But the phone itself is sweet, and faster (in my opinion, with the right rom), and has an independent number row. And the screen is bigger and looks nicer. I could go on and on about differences, but I've gotta run for now.

From everything I've heard, the CPU in the shift has the edge on the Epic, but the GPU in the Epic edges out the Shift. If battery life is important to you, I say hands down go with the Shift. I easily get a full day every day and my friend with an epic is always asking people for chargers, even changed all his backgrounds to black to save battery (doesn't save on LCD but on LED it does). He does everything he can and still struggles for a full day out of the thing. Now I speak from what he's told me, I've never owned an Epic myself. Overall I've been thrilled with the shift, does everything I ask of it with no lag and no complaints.

I certainly had this issue on stock rom on the Epic. I couldn't even make it through a work shift without the battery dying. But custom roms on the Epic blow that out of the water. I now can go a whole day of moderate usage and still have around 30-40%. But I don't know, I'm guessing with a custom rom the Shift still kicks the Epic's ass battery-wise. My wife is running CM7 (which the Epic may not see for a looong time), and I don't ever see her reaching for a charger or complaining of the battery. And being of the female variety, she tends to use a lot of the live wallpapers, widgets, etc...

The Shift now comes stock with Gingerbread from Sprint. There is no way to root it. You are SOL. I pulled all of my hair out when I figured this out.
Turns out Android (maybe not "Android", but the current ecosystem) sucks hard. Suckers like you and I come online and see threads and guides about rooting that simply won't ever work on our devices because they've been manufacturer updated. And sites like this don't seem to give a damn -- at least update the root "guide", mods.
Quite worthless. Don't fall for this BS. The Shift is again unrootable, just like almost all updated phones from Sprint. Chances are, with the devs having moved on or got lucky enough to have an old version of Android when they got theirs, all new ones will remain unrootable forever. #@(*$

You need to take a breather my friend. The stock 2.3 will get rooted in time, just like the 2.2 did. "Unrootable forever" is just an ignorant statement. If all you're gonna do is rant and rave a bunch of misinformation, please keep the post to yourself.
Back on topic...
I have a shift and purchased the Epic for my wife.
The Epic display is nicer, and the epic actually feels lighter (and is?) Than my shift. It also has more keys on the keyboard.
However, on stock ROMs my shift seems faster and has better battery life. UI's are a very personal preference, but I much prefer the HTC sense and overall software stack vs Samsung's touchwiz. It just seems to work better.
I've beeen running custom ROMs on my shift and most of them work well. About ready to try a custom ROM on the Epic to see if it works better...

ive been very happy with both my shift and the dev community here (who have turned me from an ignorant n00b-lout into a root-user) and all those who have helped me try and solve my problems.
As for rooting gingersense, it will happen soon enough, just give the devs here some time.
My wife has the Epic and I have the Shift 4G. I can't stand her phone, and she can't stand mine. Tho we both take our phone's off the charger in the morning and when we drive home, mine still is in the green where she has to use the car charger going home. Then again, neither of our phones are rooted. I have rooted her phone in the past, didn't seem to make much difference. Still running the crappy samsung software.

Is it just me or is Epic development almost dead?
Two-three months ago there was CM6,MIUI,CM7 and more original roms in the works, what happened?
Yeah i know that for CM7 they are waiting for official GB to drop but what about CM6 that was 90 percent finished and MIUI that was almost finished?
I know that we still got roms but most of them with exception of ACS and few others are mostly remixes and tweaks of stock rom.
Our Epic is way behind Vibrant,Fascinate and Captivate.
It's just you. Don't knock what the amazing developers have done for us. We have plenty of roms and we will have plenty once gingerbread drops.
I agree. Feel free to learn how to dev, though. You won't sound like a detractor from the forum.

dont worry op. i feel for ya.
no disrespect, but what phones did you guys come from. i went through the mogul, the touch, touch pro and then tp2. i mean we had a **** ton of development. not all of it was quality, but i mean, real talk. epic dev just never got off the ground. im totally not ungrateful, and im still learning android and linux, and im going to kick a little ass one of these days. it just wont be with this phone.
like i said. im not a **** talker. look me up at ppcgeeks. ive got 3000 posts (6 thou if you count off topic) and a rep that doubles that.

Damn, I just hit 1,000 posts over there. Big part of it seeming smaller is that the only carrier with the Epic is sprint. Android roms aren't like winmo roms where all you had to do was provision a rom to a particular carrier.

i know im picky, but i like 5 rows (dedicated number row)
i just dont want to leave sprint either. its not just the unlimited data, low prices and yearly upgrade. i just like them. i live in kc mo. right across the state line from sprint worl headquarters. we have a 18000 person arena in downtown called the sprint center. sprint logos are every where. we have the sprint cu at the kansas speedway. i mean it is my home town carrier.

good point
i got more thanks tomorrow.
This is my first experience with custom ROMs and I for one am very content with the amount of development for the Epic. I have looked at other forums and yes there may be a larger following, or more talk about development, but a lot of it seems to be garbage. I have flashed and used a few different ROMs now and they are all solid with few if any bugs. SRF is what I am running now and I have not found a single functionality issue. I also love that the Epic devs continue to improve their product instead of releasing some piece of crap ROM and never touching it again. Also the relatively smaller quantity of development makes things like qbking's videos possible and help all of us learn to better utilize the phones potential.
I say cheers to the devs for what they do and the time they put in! I could never accomplish even a portion of what they do. Thanks guys!
Please excuse any erors or typos as this massage was sent from my mobil device.

Quality over quantity anyday our devs cook up some amazing stuff for us.

I love this phone. That is all.
Sent from Godot's place.
we have several quality ROMs and Themes to choose from
It should come as no surprise really. There are 3 main reasons why it may seem development is slow:
Small community. Meaning that our sample set in which developers are drawn is smaller. Thankfully, this phone was top notch in hardware when it came out, so it increased our chances of having very talented developers since it naturally drew people who seriously appreciated hardware. Hence, why we have a small number of developers but they're all very very good at what they do. It could have ended up with a small number AND not a lot of quality.
Touchwiz. What I mean by this is that we're still waiting on a fully functional AOSP based rom, with CM7 being the closest to completion. Without it, all there is to develop on is touchwiz, and we've pretty much exhausted what we can do with it (so far). Once there's one ROM on AOSP, that allows for more ROMs to be developed on AOSP. Plus, the completion of CM7 could very well attract developers who prefer to develop on AOSP to try a couple projects, and have simply been waiting for CM to be completed. This all ties in with reason number 3.
Froyo. Like touchwiz, we've pretty much done all we can do with it. With the release of gingerbread, it'll open up a whole new opportunity to develop. Remember, we went through the same thing towards the end of eclair's life. Not a whole lot of development, and everyone really just waiting for froyo. The difference was, however, that everyone was itching SO BAD for froyo that a lot of projects were done on DK28; we were truly behind the times then, and so even the developers were willing to play with a leak. Not so much now; we're not AS behind the curve considering there are still few phones (besides newly released ones) on gingerbread. This, too, is much like the anticipation of an AOSP precedent as mentioned previously: it's quite possible that there are potential developers who are simply waiting for gingerbread to be released before coming to this phone.

can anyone explain to me how the mytouch slide 4g has cm7 and overclocked gingerbread kernels with out gb source?

I don't know, but the easiest explanations are:
More developers? Better chance to figure out the kernel drivers on their own.
It's made by HTC? It's pretty much a known that samsungs kernel drivers are always wacky, and in general, what one phone has doesn't neccessarily help with another. With HTC, their kernel drivers are a little more consistent across phones and it's easier to make things work by borrowing and tweaking.
Linux loaded modules? Don't know if it's relevant, but it's possible to use these to overclock a phone in a round-about way.
There's something that really needs to be laid to rest here regarding the arguement that everybody gives saying "we didn't get cm6 when froyo source was released, so how are we gonna get cm7 just because of gingerbread source?" Two reasons:
One: we only had one dev working on it, noobnl. Now we have a TEAM. And each on is just as if not more talented than him.
Two: we didn't have another device to kang any AOSP driver source from. With cm7, our team borrowed what they could from the nexus s 4g. And rest assured, they DID get a little use out of it.

It's the same phone as every other HTC phone, once they get something working on one all the others get it pretty quickly.

then by the same logic, since the i9000 has gb, we should too? the only difference in the mytouch4g and most other htc phones is a keyboard and 4g. sound familiar?
