Can you not now locate the phone through htcsense.com and get the police to go get it if at an address and do them in the process ?

Sense is telling me its down for maintanace, if it is you want to be cheeky and complain to HTC telling them you failed to track the phone via the web software they advertise because its not availible to you.
They failed you and you want a new phone for their failings to provide a service they advertise.

That feature was one of the key selling points of buying the phone, i rang and questioned HTC about this very matter months ago.
I said what they are doing is false advertising if they cannot supply a service they are advertising, i was also pissed about the fact you pay £550 for a phone and dont get supplied the wireless DNLA link they shown in the almost 9 minute ad on their site.
UK that kind of stuff goes in the consumers favour they will and should act upon it!

That looks pretty amazing. It'll work if you're fast enough and the mugger isn't wise enough to factory reset the phone.
How about HTCsense.com? If you factory reset your phone will the ability to track it be gone too? I'd expect it to track it through IMEI or something so it couldn't be disabled so easily. And will it turn on GPS and data on automatically? What if the mugger changes the sim card? What if the battery runs out?
--
To OP, good luck getting your phone back! Be sure to try everything here, including the complaint to HTC!

HTC will not replace your phone. It isn't their responsibility that your phone was stolen; that is called insurance.
The best you can do is complain, and possibly get compensation. But even then, that'd be unlikely; it'd probably still be replaced by insurance in most cases.

I did floor him with a few good shots to his face and head, but there were two of them so I didn't really stand much of a chance.
htcsense.com is currently down so can't do that at the moment. The PlanB app sounds good but with me now using my HTC Hero, I'm guessing it'll install to this phone. Really wish I was insured now! Lol!

Nope, you can choose which phone to send it to before it installs.

Stupid htcsense.com

Remember, when you log into HTC sense in your phone for the first time...you must enter your phone number, once HTC has that they can get all the other info. Such as IME and track the phone.
Sobs factory reset will not work. The phone is logged and saved into an HTC sense directory

what good does it do when the desire hd has such lousy gps reception? it can't even lock to any satellite properly and battery would be flat way before it could do so.

It would still use triangulation to tell you where it is.
And my GPS works great...have you tried a different radio?

Its true its not their responsibility that the phone was stolen but it is their fault you cant trace it!...

Thats true that it is their fault that the phone cannot be traced but being HTC they have probably already got around that problem. If somebody emails them or calls them and says that, they will just point them to the terms and conditions of HTC Sense where it will say something like "HTC reserves the right to cancel services at any time for an unspecifies period" or something like that. Damn law.

Too bad there isn't any secret tracker service implemented in the bootloader so the thief can't remove it.

If you have insurance then get yourself a brand new DHD, if you don't then it's a learning curve to make sure you do in the future.
As for GPS / wireless locating services, theyre very temperamental and work when they feel like, if you have your phone in a field and HTC tracking decides to work then i have no doubt that it will locate it straight away (providing it gets a gps / wireless lock)
Get insurance if you haven't and learn some whupp ass skills so you don't get owned by a pair of thieves again, a kick in the shin followed by a headbutt works wonders on muggers

HTC Poor Customer Service

I'm supprised how poor HTC's customer service is.
I phoned them last week to arrange collection of my DHD which needs to go in for repair. The guy on the phone said i'd have to wait 48 hours to get a call back to arrange collecton. Being a Thursday, it could have been Monday till I got a call, so I phoned back the next day and demanded they arrange collection on the phone that day which they did.
The guy on the phone said he didn't think much of HTC and wouldn't recomend them to his friends??
Today I called back to see when the repair will be completed and to mention that they shouldn't be advertising htcsense.com as a feature as it doesn't woek and is not fit for purpose. The guy on the phone got really defensive and started talking all over me. Wouldn't give me his name or put me though to his manager.
HTC have a lot of work to do in this area. It seems they just hire a bunch of chavs who have no understanding with dealing with customers. If they wanna take market share from Apple and others they need to get this right.
To be honest I can't believe in what you wrote here.
I had my old desire serviced. Took them only a phone call to get delivery arranged. All details sent on my email. Pickup the next day from my workplace (hospital) although repair took 4 more days but every time I've called them they always explained what is happening. Delivery back to my workplace.
When I got my Desire HD and rang customer support and guy behind the phone asked few questions and was ready to get my delivey details.
I think that when you called HTC you had your attitude on before you rang them and instead being nice polite and professional you just shouted at first person you got in touch with.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Who said I shouted? Infact, are you the guy I spoke to at HTC trying to defend himself?
Seems like a likey explaination as you seem so confident as to how the telephone call went...
You might be unlucky or something because when I had my HD2 I called the customer service.and got a replacement within a day and it happened twice! Well I admit that Orange france had something to do with it..and I'm sure the same can be done with my desire.hd

Well looking at what you just wrote down as a reply in don't blame customer support because you are an arse. You assumed that it work for HTC. There is a topic somewhere on XDA about HTC customer service and most of the people are happy with it...
You see I think that biggest pain is BT when it comes to customer support and yet never had a problem with dealing with them. I think you lack people skills and You can be irritated quite easily (e.g you accusing me of being person you spoke with when called HTC and that was me just passing my experience with HTC CS)

Their customer service is quite poor. I reported a reproducible bug, 3 days laters I got a standard bull**** answer "reset your phone", then told them the bug was still there and I was totally ignored from there.

Guys guys, calm down, its only a phone!!
I'm sure HTC have better things to do than monitor forums and defend themselves on them all!
My one and only experience with HTC was an email to complain about an issue after a software upgrade and received what looked like and autoresponder telling me to factory reset my phone.
Personally, I wasn't too impressed myself... (and the factory reset didnt work!)...

You're right Gavin, Its only a phone, this is becoming heated as a couple here are becoming overley defensive about HTC, I wonder why? haven't they got any calls to answer?
Being told to wait for two days just to get a call back and take my address and arrange for collection just doesn't cut it these days. Two days to fix it, fine.. but just to take my address? why couldn't they have just done it then and got on with it.
It does make you think twice about where you spend your money. i bought this sim free for cash. If I was experiancing issues with an iPhone they just give you a replacement. Same with my Macbook, the casing cracked and they still fixed it out of warranty! Apple have the best customer service experiance of any company i've delt with.
HTC customer service employies are so immiture and defensive. but then again thats down to the lack of training and poor selection in the interview process. There are of course exceptions to this. As I mentioned Christian in their customer liason in very good at his job.
But they need to get over this one, a nice flashy phone is all well, but when it goes wrong you have thick chavs to deal with who are only there to collect the wage and clearly don't give a ****e about the customer or HTC. Clearly...last week one of them told me HTC phones were junk and he wouldn't recomend them.
Support for HTC seems to vary significantly by country and mobile provider.

My collegue had problem (display was miscolloured some times) with his HD2, he got message to send hes pone to HTC and receaved it back after few day with brand new processor. Greate service
LOL, I'm not a HTC Customer Support guy, just the tone of your post doesn't paint you in the best light...and I tried to tell you that...if you want to believe I'm a HTC employee that's fine, believe what you want but you need to realise that its your tone and attitude that make a couple if us think you were actually like that to them :/
But you know, whatever helps ya sleep at night

Should I send HTC my phone to fix the "loose hinge" issue

I know that there is a fix that one can do here shown in the forums. However, I do not want to dissect the phone. My phone is not rooted but I am not sure if I feel confident to send it to HTC because I'm not sure what is considered a "loose fix" to them so they might just send it back to me without any fix and I would have to pay for the charge.
I call HTC about it and they said they would check the problem out because I am still under warranty. Has anyone else sent their phones to HTC to fix the loose hinge issue?
it shouldnt really matter if the phone is rooted..... would it? I can't imagine that HTC would void the devices build warranty for software.

What's the point in getting it replaced with another G2 that has the same hinge problem? They're all like that.
Newer models weren't fixed? Thats too bad. Anyways, I got it cheap on ebay. Of course, I can not send it back for a replacement. I hinge isn't as loose as I have seen others on youtube. Its just lying down on the bed is an issue for me. I called HTC and said its still under warranty and can possibly fix this if it is an "issue" to them.

hmmm. what I am confused about now is what the warranty covers? I can understand the warranty being voided if rooted. However, for accidental physical damages/ liquid(water) damage, what can you do with the warranty? I thought this would apply to phone defects. Tmobile even said that the early models of the G2 were defective. Its just weird that HTC won't fix it for you even if the issue is known from a larger perspective.
Send it to someone on this forum willing to do the spring replacement for you.

The HTC HD2 is Defective!!! Dont Buy It !!!

this is a f***ing piece of s*** phone. i was under the impression that the hd2 was cool. i bought one and it had static on each and every call. i thought i was sold a defect by the person who sold it to me. since it was under warranty, i sent it to htc for repair TWICE.. and each time, it came back with THE SAME STATIC. it was NOT repaired. i blamed this on the person who sold me the phone, thinking he broke it. i then sold it to someone else.
after i sold it, i bought another one, thinking this time i'll get a non-defective hd2. and guess what? it had THE SAME STATIC on EVERY CALL like the 1st phone!! why the hell does htc sell defective phones with static??!! i dont get it! and why is there a forum dedicated to a phone with soooo much static!!??
my crucial advice to anyone thinking about buying the hd2 is this... STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE!!! IF YOU ENJOY STATIC ON EVERY CALL, THEN GO AHEAD AND BUY IT..BUT I'M WARNING YOU!!! YOU WILL BE ANNOYED BY THE STATIC AND DISTORTION!!! A PHONE IS MADE TO PRODUCE CLEAR CALLS, NOT STATIC!!!
so, be smart and STAY AWAY from the hd2!!!
Ding Ding Ding Heeeeeeeerrrrrrrereeeeewwwwwweeeeeeegggooooooooooooo HaHaHa

If not, try to update them, maybe that's the problem...
Can we keep this going??? This is really funny......
By the way.... My iPhone had static but maybe I was holding it wrong.....
HD2 = Good phone
HD2 + XDA Developers = Most bad-ass phone on the market.....
no static on my phone either, and I've tried 2 radios and no static..
is it there when you turn on the speaker?
anyway, I don't think it's wise to just barge in and say that a phone that has such popularity as the HD2 and call it defective.
update your radio and rom. maybe thats the case.
btw, are you having "static" from every place you are making the calls? Have you tried calling from different places?
and a bit obvious, but meh... i assume you have dialed different people right?

Leaving EVO, hello ns4g

So after all this time using an EVO since ship date, Sprint and HTC blew it with this gb update. Getting a comparable device without losing my upgrade, was a huge plus for me to move on to this.
It wasn't the of root. It was the lack of testing, and caring about the users of this phone, the 30 second update that went on while I slept, the 2 replacements that randomly revolted every 3+hrs just everything I hope the ns4g is better.
Must say, its been a great run.
My wife has had 2 replacement evos in the past month due to broken usb port. I wish at this point they'd just offer a nexus
My camera is being retarded and after 2 or 3 pics my phone reboots. I'm hoping sprint will offer me a ns4g.

Are you using a stock Evo? If so, call and ask if they'll upgrade you. I don't think they're reading this and cross-referencing your username to your account.
When you call for a replacement, state that you are not physically able to make it to a sprint repair center: wheelchair bound, etc, whatever your excuse may be, as wrong as that seems, it's the only way to get them to MAIL the replacement to you, express that you've had the device replaced 1+ times, and that you spoke to a manager who told you, you were eligible for a like or comparable replacement, they will offer you the evo shift, ns4g, and all the other low-end devices.
This is up to you form here on.
This bypass's the reps at the store.
Foot note: make sure you do this with TECH SUPPORT!

They are so lame to make us go into the stores anyway. It's very annoying. however on my side... I've been lucky. never once have had an issue. my last phone I even changed out my own touch screen. :-D then when I got my evo. I got a hammer and killed my last phone. hahahha
haha, I wish. I've had nothing but issues out of my evo
I got some pretty bad light leaks under the home, back, and search buttons to where it looks like the metal around the bottom of the phone is white. I have heard you can get a replacement for light leakage but does or would this qualify?
who cares what this says anyways
sounds like some here have the new phone itch.. after the new phones come out all kinds of defects are found on our current phones..
ha ha.. I suffer from it..
Just tell them your phone randomly reboots lol.
Good luck with the Nexus. I have had two and sold them both. (traaded in my OG Evo.) The Nexus phones have all kinds of issues, including miserable battery life, bad radios causing dropped calls, taking 6 hours to charge the battery, flimsy plastic construction, etc.
I ended up with an Evo 3D, and so far, so good. It's nice to have a fast phone with a large screen, but somewhat more narrow than the original Evo.
Go to the Sprint site and see the Nexus user reviews vs. either of the Evos. It's no contest.
Good luck.
Thanks, and I always have 2 more evo's lol.

I don't have any of these problems. I have a rooted EVO 4G in the drawer and a Sprint upgrade ready to be claimed. Other Android phones I have are the N1 and Atrix 4G, bought the 3D as a gift for my dad as well. Right now the NS4G is the only Android phone that I'd use.

I told them that and they told me I need a task killer app because there apps staying open causing my phone to reboot. It has done it but not lately. I do want a different phone since I can't root this one and I just got it like 3-4 weeks ago. So not so much a new phone just one that isn't locked. If the EVO gets root I would keep it but with all the rumors going around that it won't or it maybe October or never I don't want to wait 2 years to get a phone I can root.
who cares what this says anyways
