i have an EVO 4G, two days ago i flashed radio and ROM.
now the mobile can not open and connet to data network, the status aways display as: opening.
And, i can not make any change in EPST by ##778#, it displays some tips: radio no response, can not entry low power mode.
but i can use phone call and txt message. anyone can help me? thanks!
pls help me !thanks!
What radio? What rom? We need more info
We're comin from a pure power source.
Well the fact your phone / text work means your 1xrtt is working fine. The data part is whats messed up. You need to go to a sense rom, like an HTC stock rom, do a profile update, or do a ##RTN# to restore your settings, then the system will try to do an update. I had this problem when i swapped temporarily from my EPIC to my EVO. Voice and text worked but Data did not. I had to flash back to a sense rom, and ##RTN# to get the system to recognize it and reprogram it.
After that all was well.

I have crap service at my house, so after a phone call to Sprint they sent me an Airave for free and waived the monthly fee. Now as I understand the Airave is 1xRTT only, which is fine, whatever. But there is a slight EVDO signal that my Hero stupidly jumps on from time to time resulting in dropped calls and lost data connections because the EVDO signal fades in and out. Then it will go back full strength 1xRTT again. Rinse and repeat throughout the day.
I'm running Darchdroid 2.7. Is there a way to force 1xRTT?
Not without going back to a sprint based rom first. then you need your MSL. Call Sprint for that or Use alogcat. Calling sprint is easyer. AOSP roms don't have the ## sprint codes. ##DATA# is the one you need to force 1x only. Before you try all that try just keeping WIFI turned on at home. This should keep the phone from jumping off the Airave looking for 3G.
Hm, turning on Wifi didn't stop the signal from dropping to nothing from time to time like usual. Really don't like the Sprint based roms so I'm just going to live with it. Wish there was a way with AOSP roms though.
Flash a Sprint ROM, Change it, Then Flash back. It will stick. At least it did on my Moment. I put her (my wife) back on 3G when she went on a trip last month. She is back now and I have not swiched back but the problem seems to be gone. Weird I know.
Yes it does seem to stick. I'm kind of in a tough spot though. I need to force 1x at home for the reasons I said before, but I also use Pandora on my drive to work, so I need 3G then. So I guess I need to stick on a Sprint ROM so I can access the DATA menu regularly.
Thanks for the suggestions. Can anyone recommend the quickest Sprint based ROM? Even Fresh's ROM seems so laggy aince I've used darchdroid and darchstar's CM6 2.2.
I use the app AnyCut. I am able to create a link to CDMA Options > Mode of Operation. There you can select either Hybrid, EVDO or 1x. Using any cute you can easily access the right menu.
i dont have that option mode of operation
then again im using cm6

This is just another reason I choose SenseUI over anything else.
The ##778 stuff, the different options available to control my phone, the widgets, the smoothness...
On cm6, I don't know that there is a way without modifying your phone's PST settings. QPST or something, if you can get in DIAG mode with cm6 (I'm assuming you can).
But then when you leave your house, you'll have to change it back (which is a huge process compared to the SenseUI way outlined by andrewjb)
Hello everyone,
I just bought an HTC Aria and immediately installed attn1's ROM. My problem is I lose data connectivity even with full signal; I reset the connection in any way (reboot, cycle through airplane mode, change from GSM to other mode and back) and it will be restored for some time and then be lost again.
I could really, really use some help with this, as I have looked in tons of places before posting here.
Thanks in advance.
After trying everything I called my provider and opened a case. Four hours after this the service estarted working perfectly, though they claim they did nothing.
It was probably that you just needed the correct APN settings. It varies from carrier to carrier, and the ROM's default is set for US locale, (AT&T).
I generally use my shift at home or work on wifi. This week I'm on vacation and have been using Sprint's network primarily. I was using a CM7 nightly for a while and noticed that I've never seen the 3g icon, only 1x. I confirmed this by installing an app from the market called 'Opensignal' which shows details about your connection, which tower you're connected to, etc.
I flashed to a sense based ROM (Mik) and have the same issue- 1x only. However, it now always displays the 3g logo when data is 1x, even if roaming.
It seems that something in my phone is keeping me stuck without 3g that persists through reinstalls/wipes. I'm hoping there is some type of hidden setting or config option I can look at outside of the standard settings in the system.
Any ideas other than flashing back to stock/unrooted?
You will find that the stock sense rom will show 3G always as well. You can open up the dialer and dial ##33284# Choose EVDO engineering, and look at the state.
And if not in a sense rom *#*#info#*#* will let you view you connection details.

Unfortunately I would ruu back to stock, update profile and prl in update section then see if that helps. Run speed tests and keep a record of results to help in the process of elimination. Could it just be the tower you're near or some Podunk town out in the sticks that doesn't have good equipment? Go to a sprint store with working displays. Do speed tests with the display then your phone. Maybe you got a lemon?
You could be roaming or on an old system. Turn roaming off and set network to sprint only and see if that makes any difference. I know years ago I went to my home town in the Midwest and throughput and signal was poor until I went into a major city (like the capital) then speed and signal was good again.
Thanks, I didn't realize HTC always made the 3g logo show- that's really stupid. *#*#info#*#* shows me good stuff and re-confirms me getting 1x only.
Will any of the settings listed attempt 3G data only? I set it to EVDO but it seemed to stay at 1x.

##3282# & ##33284# are your best bet to edit anything if you're not planning on running an RUU, really you shouldn't have to, just turn EvDo only on and see if it even connects. Maybe the 1X towers are stronger than EvDo, if you have it at all.
Reset data profile entirely through ##3282# - you need your MSL - MSL Reader is on the market.
Try that and document your speed results, etc. Then update your prl. If you really want to, then go ahead and apply the 3G speed fix mentioned in Android Development (not necessary but if you're concerned with speed you might wanna try every step.)
If all that fails, you do still have the RUU and start fresh approach. Personally before I'd do anything I'd get ahold of another android device, maybe not HTC, and see what it's doing for speed, etc.

Great info. Using the info code I've set it to EVDO only but it still says its at 1xRTT, even after a reboot(!). My wife has a Sprint LG optimus S- I've looked at its settings and its connected @ 3G so I know whatever tower in my area should connect.
I got my MSL from that app and can get to edit mode via ##3282# but I do not see an option to reset, only to change to other profiles that appear to have the same config. It was choosing profile 1, I changed it to 0 with the same results.
How do I reset data profile?
Edit: ##33284# lists evdo as 0 (disabled) but does update info as to its signal strength and so on. This is all still with the phone set to EVDO only but yet connecting at 1xRTT.
I seem to have it working now. The change I made was ##3282#, EVDO, preferred mode = auto. This was previously set to CDMA. After a reboot I now have 3g.
I'm curious what this is set to for others? I've never been in these screens before and have this feeling that I've never had 3g data (I've had my phone since launch day).
Ive reflashed CM7 and 3g works there too now, i'm seeing the 3g icon for the first time.
Also its quite sneaky that HTC/Sprint only show the 3g icon on a Sense ROM. Had i never installed a non-sense based ROM i'd have never really known that i was stuck on 1x. Shame on HTC/Sprint.

I would like to say this thread has helped me achieve EVDO (ive been 1x also since release). Sadly this doesn't work on AOSP roms for me, but i'm happy just getting what i'm paying for... and have been but haven't received. Its noticeably faster.
BUT.. for noobs not used to the ##3282# menu, after making a change, press the menu button and commit the change. I had gone through these steps changing the drop down and immediately restarting. Apparently you have to manually save these settings.. or at least on my phone.
where are you guys entering these numbers and "EVDO"? because mine is also showing 1x and i wanna fix that

you get free thanks i guess... mouse slip up
anyway, its in your dialer, just use the keys as if the 'code' is a phone number
LOL double thanks
By the way i found out if you enable EVDO(DDTM) you might not receive some calls, just putting preferred mode on automatic will do the trick

For the record the stock rom WILL show 1x. I've seen it. I guess that's when service is just plain terrible.

The only rom it works for me on is MikShift. Not even on the stock rom, though I did call and voice my complaints to both Sprint AND HTC, they didn't give a rat's ass.

If I install mikshift and make the change will it persist if I flash back to cm7?

It worked for me. I also updated my Profile and PRL through sprint just for the hell of it.

1 Reboot your HTC EVO Shift 4G.
2 Press your phone icon on the screen.
3 Enter ##3282#.
4 You have to give it roughly 10 seconds for the EPST screen to appear.
5 If the 1st 3 steps don't work, you may have to restore to the Stock ROM.

Seem to have worked for me as well except on the next day...I got an (I believe unrelated) random wake-up reboot, it just decided to keep connecting in1x mode. Now I'm back to mik and I'm constantly in evdo rev a mode
I really like cm and I've had it fully setup to my liking...then when I discovered about opensignal and the whole 1x thing...I feel like I'm missing out on something. I think its more ocd than anything else since cm7 is fully functional anyway...but still. I do hope they figure out what the prob is. I can't wait to go back to cm

Hey Guys -
I had the Moonlight WP7 ROM on my HD2 working pretty well, thought i'd flash LEO71 on my phone to play with some new features and when I did, the Cellular Data portion failed to work.
I can't sync email, etc. Wifi works great and I can make calls.
I tried flashing back, but it seems (i can't quite tell - maybe someone can show me how to tell the version) that either it isn't reverting back to the old version or even if I'm back on Moonlight the cell data isn't working.
I did a quick search and didn't come up with a fix on this issue.
Could someone point me to a thread if there is one, or has anyone ran into this?
Thanks!!
So after a number of reboots, it seemed to start working...
...but now after a few minutes i get the error "Invalid SIM". A reboot fixes it.
Any thoughts?
I wanted to share a problem I encountered & worked around when flashing custom ROMs. The loss of mobile carrier settings & inability to restore without taking it to my service provider.
Yes, I have read through this forum & other forums extensively to find a amenable solution to no avail.
Possible solutions found were tried to possible extents/applicability but did not work for me: I've done Nandroids & restores, I've used TB to back-up the specific mobile settings & restored, I have looked into an elusive EFS folder (which seems like is GSM specific), I have manually wrote my phone's identity, hardware & software info in the hopes of manually reinputting/restoring (which I have yet to find the app, software or EPST code that allows me to do this...except maybe the cdma workshop which I cannot justify purchasing nor am I willing to "acquire").
This happened two times; once after flashing an AOSP ROM and another time when I updated the PRL.
After flashing the AOSP ROM: after an entire weekend of no phone/data service (wifi worked, cell was otherwise functional) and researching...I took it to my service provider. The technician was unable to execute the EPST codes which was apparently related to restoring the phone to their network. It took multiple technicians and 3.5 hours for them to restore it.
After updating my PRL (by this time, I had switched to a sense-based ROM). I took the phone in the next day & the same technician restored it in less than an hour. Also, the PRL was "downgraded" or reverted to the original PRL.
I have since flashed 2 other sense-based ROMs and have not lost these settings. Otherwise, my Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions are all up to date. My PRL apparently can't change for it to work with my provider.
I know it's noobish & lame...but this is my workaround...for now; I only flash sense-based ROMs.
I really liked that AOSP ROM.
Constructive comments appreciated & thanks for reading.
I had something similar occur with my phones. I had trouble first activating a rooted EVO 4G only to find out that the programming menu, EPST settings, had mysteriously disappeared. After searching all over, I found out if I updated the all the radios, combo zip, that it restored the EPST settings and was then able to access the programming menu. Mind you, I had to do all this while chatting with sprint rep trying to activate it.
Once it was activated, it was working fine, then soon after I found out that the 3G connection had stopped working. Now this I found out to be fixed by updating the profile. Because the 3G was down, I had to connect to my wireless router in order to have connectivity. This solved the dropped 3G data connectivity.
But in trying to fix the data, I had since flashed to another ROM to make sure that the data was not broken due to a ROM. I found out that once flashed to another ROM after updating the profile, that NOW I had lost voice. It was as if it had been deactivated. I then went back into the EPST settings and saw that it reverted back to the old user's phone number (MDN) and the MEIN(?, the other number used to activate) was also changed. I was lucky to remembered the latter number because it was only one digit off. So seeing that these were changed, I changed them back, and this restored my voice connection.
This is the first time that I have ever experienced this type of problem with a rooted HTC EVO 4G and I have had this phone since the beginning.
Hope this helped a little. I actually just posted something about this yesterday.

I did not do the updates until after I had my cell restored and then flashed a sense-based ROM. Now, all is updated & in my experience since...radios, PRI, Wimax etc...continue to stay current when I flash a new ROM. For some reason, I don't have to reflash these (I've read some people have/have to).

I verified these numbers were all the same prior to and after I had updated the PRL and after the techs restored it. The numbers were all the same with the exception of the PRL.

I actually read your post prior to posting this...but my impression of it at the time was that the change in phone number was the determining variable.
Much thanks for your supportive comments.
