Im having some problems with the wi-fi connection. When it first conects, everything goes ok, but when I start to download anything, the connection just stops responding, even tough it looks like conected. What should I do?
I'm having the same problem and couldn't find the solution, did any solve the problem?
Wifi problem on MS2
After months of researching and suffering the pain I still have not got a full solution for my MS2. My wifi problem is that it connects well, great wifi speed on my home network. But after a couple of minutes there's no more internet access even though it shows that its connected. I chanced upon this link laptopmag.com/review/cell-phones/motorola-droid-2.aspx?page=4 where it had the same problem brought up. It had a solution/fix which I do not want to use though. Further information can be found on the droidforums link on that page. What I have been doing all along is the same as what the guys at laptopmag has been doing, just reconnect whenever internet is down. Irritating yeah, but don't really have any other option..
Hope someone does have a proper solution :X
In addition to the sporadic troubles loading some sites with Flash elements, we had a much more persistent problem maintaining Wi-Fi connectivity. On three different routers, the Droid 2 would connect and then, after a few minutes, would continue reporting that it was connected but stop downloading data. The solution to the problem, once you notice it, is to disconnect from the router then reconnect, but that is a huge hassle.
Our original Droid experienced the same Wi-Fi problem so many times that we eventually gave up and resolved to use 3G only. However, after searching through several Droid forums and finding dozens of posts from other users who experienced the same problem on first-gen Droids and Droid Xs, we found a possible solution that seems to have worked with the Droid 2. After we changed the settings on our 802.11n router from mixed mode to 802.11g only, we did not experience the problem again, though we had to operate all of our computers on the slower 802.11g speed, which is unacceptable.

I installed the BlurLess GB rom and the problem is now gone.
Btw, my router @ home is G only, so the solution posted did not apply for me.

After spending time searching the net for a solution i couldnt find anything as it seems my problem is unique. The issue is when i connect to my router through wifi every thing goes fine however when i go out of range or disconnect for a while and try to reconnect i get a message "Connecting..." then "Disconnected" and it never connects until I restart the router. The issue was worse where it connects for 1 time but the next time it does not detect the router, this was resolved by setting the wifi channel from auto to channel 6. But now i am stuck with this issue that has no solution. I have tried everything from static IPs to mac filtering, i also wanted to update the router (gigaset 504 agu) firmware but could find it. I am currently using x10 with firmware 026 -global. If anyone has a solution plz share it as this problem is really annoying

I have the same problem with my netgear router, it is very annoying...I think this a known issue with some android phones and certain routers.
Its seems no one has a solution, I guess we need to wait for 2.1 and see if the update resolves this issue

Well you could provide internet connection to your phone via your computer. What OS do you have and what kind of internet connection (wired/wireless) does your computer use?
Not that I've ever tried or used it seen as I don't have issues but perhaps this might miracally work..

I believe its worth a shot
P.s - Im pretty sure I've read up on a similar thread to this before..?

It's an android problem. I have this with my x10 and froyo nexus one. The only solution is to quick toggle wifi on/off in the power management widget. I've seen this happen on a Linksys wrt54g and wrt120n. Same with a D-Link dir655m and dgl-4300. If you are really unlucky like me. Having wifi and bluetooth on at the same time with this problem will cause your phone to either freeze or reboot on its own.
I get this with some routers, what works for me is. Data /3G, wifi off, 3g on, wifi on. I use switch pro to quickly configure the toggles.

I use switchpro widget as well...
just to be clear...do you mean you switch off data/mms then wifi off...then switch on data/mms and wifi.
thanx guys for the reply, but none of the mentioned solutions worked
I am seriously thinking of moving out of android because of this issue, its as if the phone doesn't have wifi?!?!
Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but having searched I can't find anything that helps.
I have upgraded my G1 to run on Android 2.2 via all the links and information on here, but seem to be haing some trouble with Wifi.
The G1 finds and connects to my wireless access point no problem, I can then browse the Android Market on the phone but after about 1-2 minutes I get a message saying "A network error has occurred", I click retry repeatedly and sometimes after a few attempts I get it to load the page I want. I also experience the same when browsing the web on the G1.
I have tried manually creating the wifi connection but still no improvement. I have changed the channel of my access point but again still no improvement.
I have tried disabling Wifi on the G1 and using my mobile internet connection from my 3G network and this works fine.
Here are some details from my G1
Android version 2.2.1
Baseband version 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version 2.6.35.99-cyanogenmod shade(atsign) toxygene #2
Mod version CyanogenMod-6.1.0-DS
Build number FRG83
Any helpwill be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Gavin
Still no joy!!
Still hoping for some help, in the meantime I have updated the radio to 2.22.23.02 but still I am experiencing the same problem.
Help!
I have the exact same problem on my HD2. 3G and internet pass-through work fine, but when I'm on WiFi I get the network error messages. I have tried different WiFi networks, several Rom, radio, Kernel combinations and I still get the same errors. I even tried reverting back to the original T-Mobile Windows Rom. While I can't get the same errors, many web pages didn't load while browsing. In general I got the feeling that the rate of non-loading pages was similar to that of the network error pop-ups that I experienced while using Android. At this point I'm suspecting that I have a hardware problem. I tried opening up the phone and messing with the WiFi antenna connections, but nothing I did made any difference. I'm still looking for a solution, but no one has really addressed this exact problem.
While this may not be helpful to your specific problem I hope it makes you feel better that you are not alone.
What wifi do you run on? b/g/n ? That may also affect your connectivity.
It sounds more like a modem/access point problem to me...not phone.
Could be wifi interference from a cordless phone etc. Also, check you are using 20mhz bandwidth on your wifi access point. Some access points allow setting it to 40mhz which can really cause problems.
Can you try wifi access from a friends house that is known reliable and see if there is any improvement?
I too have this issue
I have jumped through all the hoops to get my T-mobile G1 rooted, updated
(2.6.35.10-TheOfficial-pershoot-DreamSapphire-2708)
and it works great with my voice only sim from AT&T...except that the wifi just doesn't work right. It connected for about 20 minutes, and since then everything I try to do fails after a loooooooong pause "Network Error"
Is there anyone who has any idea what this can be?
Ok,this is quite common by now.Turn on WIFI,device connects to router,we've got internet access...until trying to download something from the market or watch video(well, anything above 2MB).The network connection just freezes. The icon is still there, indicating strong signal, but Opera says "Check your network connection".
Turning off and turning on again the WiFi and reconnecting resolves the problem for another 5 mins...
Different routers, different places, different people with X8- same issue.
Things I've tried:
-Several Wi-Fi fix apps
-Different router
-Change router to b instead of g
-Change router channels
-Clean wireless network profiles
-Wrote an email to SE,still no reply
-Updated to latest firmware (2.1.1.-something),got even worse
Thanks for looking and have a nice day!
I am not dev but if it is not working right and you cant find a solution go to suport with the garanty and get a new...
It will take you more time trying to fix it by your shelf...
(Ps: i am not sure that sony is able to fix it.. giving you a new if there is a problem is more easy...)
I dont think i helped...
Well, this post will not provide you any help
I've read so many threads like this, saying that WiFi isn't working properly with their devices. so far the wifi didn't bring my any troubles. even with stock ROM, MiniCM, and CM7.
I have no issue with wireless at all with my ancient Samsung galaxy yet my wife's new SE X8 with stock 2.1 rom is hating our wireless. X8 connects fine for about 24 hours after which phone disconnects and fails to reconnect. It says disconnected despite me trying to click connect. It doesn't say "connecting" nor "obtaining IP..." simply does nothing. The only solution so far is router restart which fixes the problem for about a day. Things tried:
- ssid change
- encryption change
- Chanel change
None seem to have fixed the problem.

Hi there
Maybe this question has been asked before but I only found matching problem descriptions related to other devices so far.
I am using the typhoon nightlies for quite a while and I am very happy with them. There is just one major problem I experience day by day. When I connect to my wireless router (WPA/WPA2 TKIP/AES doesn't matter) I have Internet for a few seconds or minutes but than there is suddenly no more connectivity. WLAN Status still claims to be connected but I can't either reach any local music sources nor any websites or the market.
When I use WEP or no security at all it works just fine. Are there a lot of people with this problem or is there allready a patch for this issue which I missed.
Edit: I have several different router models at home and I tried it with all of them. Same result
Thank you so much for your help

I allow myself to push this thread for one more time. I am a little confused about being the only one with this problem. :S if its really a known bug and the only workaround is to use the mobile connection instead, I could live with it but had to buy another phone for going abroad.
Thx

I have the same Issue. How did you solve it?
Pardon me if this is a repeat, but I've searched and found nothing.
I'm on Moto Defy/MB525, rooted, overclocked, CM7.
My issue is this....Wifi on my home network connects just fine, surfs just fine, until I connect andFtp to my Mac. Initially, everything is good...connects fine, ls- fine, allows selection of file on host and destination on client. The problem comes in between 2% & 5% transfer; wifi stalls, socket disconnects(Server kick out?), wifi becomes inactive for anything/everything. I can cycle the wifi and it 's functionality returns. Then I'm back at the start. Thought it was andFtp, but it works fine with my website, as does my Mac.
So I guess my question is....why would/should/could FTP cause the wifi to fail?
Thanks in advance

Not exactly the same as your issue but I see you use CM7 and thats the one ROM that I have had wifi issues with, do the problems occur when the screen goes to sleep ?The issue I have is that regardless of wifi sleep policy when the screen goes to sleep, although I am "connected" streaming radio starts to stutter,or transfer rates will crash,I know its not the same issue as the one you have but here is a link to bug report for CM 7
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=4232
The motorola milestone was/is plagued by similar issues when using WPA2 with certain access points. I think it was related to buggy TI wifi drivers.
For milestone, this was recently fixed in kabaldans CM7 port.
Maybe the defy is using the same buggy drivers?

Thank you both for the answers.
Bombardier, sleep seems irrelevant, it does stutter and I am on wpa2, figure I'll try something different now, eh?
Nanzy, ill try the other rom you mentioned.
Thanks again.

This turns out to be the solution. Switching to WPA solved the entire issue. Thanks again for the insight.
