Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but having searched I can't find anything that helps.
I have upgraded my G1 to run on Android 2.2 via all the links and information on here, but seem to be haing some trouble with Wifi.
The G1 finds and connects to my wireless access point no problem, I can then browse the Android Market on the phone but after about 1-2 minutes I get a message saying "A network error has occurred", I click retry repeatedly and sometimes after a few attempts I get it to load the page I want. I also experience the same when browsing the web on the G1.
I have tried manually creating the wifi connection but still no improvement. I have changed the channel of my access point but again still no improvement.
I have tried disabling Wifi on the G1 and using my mobile internet connection from my 3G network and this works fine.
Here are some details from my G1
Android version 2.2.1
Baseband version 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version 2.6.35.99-cyanogenmod shade(atsign) toxygene #2
Mod version CyanogenMod-6.1.0-DS
Build number FRG83
Any helpwill be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Gavin
Still no joy!!
Still hoping for some help, in the meantime I have updated the radio to 2.22.23.02 but still I am experiencing the same problem.
Help!
I have the exact same problem on my HD2. 3G and internet pass-through work fine, but when I'm on WiFi I get the network error messages. I have tried different WiFi networks, several Rom, radio, Kernel combinations and I still get the same errors. I even tried reverting back to the original T-Mobile Windows Rom. While I can't get the same errors, many web pages didn't load while browsing. In general I got the feeling that the rate of non-loading pages was similar to that of the network error pop-ups that I experienced while using Android. At this point I'm suspecting that I have a hardware problem. I tried opening up the phone and messing with the WiFi antenna connections, but nothing I did made any difference. I'm still looking for a solution, but no one has really addressed this exact problem.
While this may not be helpful to your specific problem I hope it makes you feel better that you are not alone.
What wifi do you run on? b/g/n ? That may also affect your connectivity.
It sounds more like a modem/access point problem to me...not phone.
Could be wifi interference from a cordless phone etc. Also, check you are using 20mhz bandwidth on your wifi access point. Some access points allow setting it to 40mhz which can really cause problems.
Can you try wifi access from a friends house that is known reliable and see if there is any improvement?
I too have this issue
I have jumped through all the hoops to get my T-mobile G1 rooted, updated
(2.6.35.10-TheOfficial-pershoot-DreamSapphire-2708)
and it works great with my voice only sim from AT&T...except that the wifi just doesn't work right. It connected for about 20 minutes, and since then everything I try to do fails after a loooooooong pause "Network Error"
Is there anyone who has any idea what this can be?

I've had this issue pretty much since I started using WM devices.
I'm on the AT&T network (HSDPA), but barely can connect to either my work, or home VPN servers. Usually, after setting up the phone and VPN connection for the first time, it will work. But after that, it'll take roughly 10 tries to get it to connect again. Even when it's connected, the connection will drop (w/o notification) within a few minutes.
VPN is important to me, since I often have to remote into home or work PCs to fix problems. I can usually get a RDP window up and running when I finally do get the VPN connection to establish, but I never have enough time to actually do anything... it dies so quickly.
I've been on the phone with AT&T numerous times on the issue. They've given me ISP.CINGULAR access, as well as a static IP for an extra $3 a month. It doesn't help, though.
Any suggestions?
**EDIT**
I did try searching for this, but didn't find anything helpful. I was limited to searching on each page, as "VPN" is too short a term to search for using the search function....
I had some issues with my internet connection, after the WM 6 update. When I updated my Radio Version the problem went away. You may need to update your ROM/Radio. Depending on which device you have, there may be many choices for you to do this.

I've tried more radios than I can shake a stick at. My IP is also not static, though AT&T is charging me $3 a month for that. Punks.
Which radio are you using now?
I'm bringing this thread back up, because I absolutely cannot figure out why VPN is so darn spotty.
On my current ROM (RomeOS 3.1), I can't even get VPN to connect at all. On the ROM I was using prior (Q-Mobile 1.2), it would show connected, but I couldn't get a RDP connection to an internal IP address. Within a minute or so, the VPN connection would just disappear.
This problem goes from ROM to ROM, so I'm wondering if something is wrong with my account at AT&T. Can anyone here use VPN reliably?? If so, what did you do to get there? It certainly does not work out of the box... I really need this for work.
I'm pretty happy with my new HTC Hero, but I'm having a lot of trouble with the WiFi connection. I connects fine and shows "good" or "excelent" signal strength on my home network. However the speed is very slow and if I go to Android Market it loads the different apps very slowly an looses connection often: It says "No connection" and I press the "Retry" button...). It is not just a problem i Android Marked. Loading pages in the browser, facebook etc. is extremely slow when on WiFi. When I'm using EDGE everything is A LOT faster and I don't get "A network error has occured. Retry or cancel...etc.".
I have tried different settings on my access point, but nothing seems to help. I have (tempoarily) disabled encryption, tried swiching channels, using B instead og G setting, and manually setting: Gateway, DNS etc... In the end it got a bit frustrating so I tried a factory reset. But WiFi is still very slow. If you have any suggestions to what the problem might be I would be very grateful.
I had a similar problem with my AP (D-Link DIR 655) and tried to set it to use the same communications setup as another AP that worked properly. Whatever I did with encryption, keys and channels made no difference on my AP. The solution on this AP was to set it to 802.11g only (it was b+g+n), and it has worked fine since.
I do however suspect that there may be some serious issues lurking in the linux kernel that is used on the hero (2.6.27). Wifi was a nightmare on that release with notebooks too, and core parts of the wifi-stack has been replaced since. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a significant improvement in wifi-performance whenever there's an Android release that include a 2.6.30 or later kernel.
I have been having the same issues but my wifi didnt work with the browser, or youtube. I downloaded Opera mini and wifi works fine. With factory browser i can go to google and it will load and search but once i click on links found it hangs and wont connect. I am so frustrated my sim is going back into my iphone 3gs until an update is released this sucks big time
It is a bit disappointing if this is a general issue, but I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this type of problem.
Maybe this could also be a HTC-issue? I remember my HTC Tytn II where there was a slider where you could choses between "performance" or "battery saving". I remember that I couldn't get the WiFi to run properly unless I set it to highest performance. I consumed more power but it worked with this setting.
On my Hero, the HSDPA connection is for some reason faster than my ADSL2+ (24Mbps) connection. Rather odd..
Same here. The 3G/EDGE is a lot faster than my 20 Mbit ADSL. It makes no sense
Why does it take so long to make a connection to my router via wifi?
This can sometimes take 10 - 15 minutes before I have a connection.
With my windows mobile device this takes only a few seconds.
I'm experiencing the same issue on my Hero (with updated HTC firmware). I've also tried playing around with my routers settings to no avail. My Hero is basically useless for browsing on WIFI.
I'm curious, does anyone running an alternative rom experience this? If not I may look into rooting my phone..
Root your phone and do this
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_timestamps
It will fix it.

you've had 57 posts and dont know what rooting is;p aha (not trying to be a ****, just found that funny:])
when you root your phone you gain root access and can do just about anything, like install apps that need root access! there are guides in the dev section on how to, and if you do a search there is a thread on what root allows you to do!
i dont know if that command will fix your problem though, sorry!

I've been a "windows mobile" user for a long time.
I know what "root access" is in the general Unix environment.
But I don't really know how it works on the Android OS.
I'm more of a Windows guy.
It's my first time messing on Android, I got tired of Windows Mobile.

Just my humble opinion. This is a problem that should be fixed by htc.
If rooting fixes it it's good, but it can't be a requirement to get it working properly.
I mean you buy a phone with wifi, you expect it to be as fast as your provider is... Getting less is just not getting what you paid for.
Has anyone mailed HTC about this problem? I hardly ever use wifi but tried it today
and indeed my hsdpa is lot's faster than my 20mbit connection @ home.
Help us pleaseeee

That pretty much cut the speed in half for me.
Seriously the wifi issue is a big problem for me. I don't have a 3g unlimited plan.
Basically when i activate the wifi i start a application like update weather or check a webpage or update tweets, it works then connection drop and i can't connect to anything.
I have to deactivate wifi then reactivate to get like 40 seconds surfing and downloading apps on the market.
IS everyone having the same wifi problem ?
It happened on every access point not just the one at my place.
Please help me, is it my phone that has a hardware problem ?

you gotta think of it this way...
most people who dont have problems arnt gunna make it to this thread because there not searching for it! So your mostly gunna get replys saying "same here"
so im guessing most people dont have this problem.. although it could be a specific rom on a specific carrier or something... see if you have anything in common with other people with this problem, if not, maybe it is hardware
WiFi channels
Have you tried changing the wifi channel in your router settings in case there is interferance with a nearby router on the same channel? Although you would experience slow wifi on any wifi device (laptops)..but worth checking.
I've just done a speedtest on my phone using the speedtest.net app and do get just over half the download speed on my phone (5-6mbps) opposed to my pc (wired 9-10mbps) and laptop (wireless 9-10mbps). So knowing my wireless is set up correctly, it does show some loss in speed with the hero. See how much of a loss you get?
Adam
Thank you for your reply. I think i figured it out. I am at the countryside right now and im connnected on a diferent acess point and it's working perfectly i'm actually writing this post in WiFi mode on the hero. So the problem is from the other access point i tested. i already tried changing the Channel number. I use a french provider that use access points called "freebox"
FYI the problem with the hero and some wifi access points is well known and is being forwarded to htc by Vodafone.

Htc said that they are working on it..

After connecting to 3 different wireless connections and none of then working, I'm concluded that my wifi isn't working.
I go to settings and check wifi on, it finds the network, connects, but I lose my entire data connection for the duration wifi is turned on!
Is anyone else having this problem?
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
I'm having the same issues with the wifi. I downloaded wifi analyzer to make sure I was on a good channel. Set it to the best channel and my signal strength is 100%. I will be able to connect for a little bit but for some reason it goes in and out, connection unsuccessful, yada yada yada. I messed with all the troubleshooting solutions for my router (dgl-4300) but nothing works. If anyone can reply with a fix or point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.
Same Issues
Any help is greatly appreciated. Data working fine when on 3G but Wifi = no data. Connection is fine, IP is fine.
UPDATE: It's working again on my home WIFI. Will have to see if it's just an "at work" issue. Hopefully IT can assist.
Same problem with Verizon MiFi
I have had ZERO problems connecting to the Linksys access points we have setup at my home and my office, but recently my work provided me with a Verizon MiFi (as well as an iPad - don't hate ) and I've had MANY issues trying to get my Vibrant to consistently connect to the MiFi.
My iPad, Motorola Droid, and Laptop have no issues connecting to the MiFi.
On my Vibrant I'm running the 2.1 stock ROM with root & the latest ClockWork recovery.
It will "connect" to the MiFi (I use quotes because I can't really tell - it AT LEAST receives an IP). But I'm unable to send and receive data. I can't even browse to the MiFi's internal configuration page .
To FINALLY get it to connect consistently I have to do some kind of random combo toggling the wifi off and back on and then turning the MiFi off and back on and it will EVENTUALLY connect and stay connected with data flowing freely.
I've customized my configuration a little bit on the MiFi so I'm going to reset it back to factory and not change the config to see if it makes a difference - because at lunch I was able to connect to my boss' MiFi with no problem. I'm thinking it may either be the phone or the mifi...
I've connected to about 10 different wireless networks with NO issues, at all. The connectivity is actually much better than my G1/Nexus.
HOWEVER, last night at a bar I was connected to their wifi, strong signal, but I was not able to use Data. I was in a very poor reception area for T-Mobile... don't think that could be an issue, bit the other places I use wi-fi that is not the case.
I just chalked it up as a fluke and moved on. Not sure what was wrong.
I had this happen to me today. I just rebooted and it went away. Toggling wifi didn't help, but I only tried it once. The phone reboots so quick I figured I'd give it a try.
I have set the phone up manually with static ip. Seems like its a problem with the dhcp.

Im having some problems with the wi-fi connection. When it first conects, everything goes ok, but when I start to download anything, the connection just stops responding, even tough it looks like conected. What should I do?
I'm having the same problem and couldn't find the solution, did any solve the problem?
Wifi problem on MS2
After months of researching and suffering the pain I still have not got a full solution for my MS2. My wifi problem is that it connects well, great wifi speed on my home network. But after a couple of minutes there's no more internet access even though it shows that its connected. I chanced upon this link laptopmag.com/review/cell-phones/motorola-droid-2.aspx?page=4 where it had the same problem brought up. It had a solution/fix which I do not want to use though. Further information can be found on the droidforums link on that page. What I have been doing all along is the same as what the guys at laptopmag has been doing, just reconnect whenever internet is down. Irritating yeah, but don't really have any other option..
Hope someone does have a proper solution :X
In addition to the sporadic troubles loading some sites with Flash elements, we had a much more persistent problem maintaining Wi-Fi connectivity. On three different routers, the Droid 2 would connect and then, after a few minutes, would continue reporting that it was connected but stop downloading data. The solution to the problem, once you notice it, is to disconnect from the router then reconnect, but that is a huge hassle.
Our original Droid experienced the same Wi-Fi problem so many times that we eventually gave up and resolved to use 3G only. However, after searching through several Droid forums and finding dozens of posts from other users who experienced the same problem on first-gen Droids and Droid Xs, we found a possible solution that seems to have worked with the Droid 2. After we changed the settings on our 802.11n router from mixed mode to 802.11g only, we did not experience the problem again, though we had to operate all of our computers on the slower 802.11g speed, which is unacceptable.

Hey guys,
I just recently rooted my s4 and I have been experiencing issues with my wifi. As a first time rooter, I was curious if there are any ideas you guys have to help? Thanks
Rooting won't have any impact on your WiFi or any other phone performance. Have you made any other changes since rooting and what Wi-Fi problems are you having?
I haven't really done anything at all after rooting it. My internet connections just says, "Network disabled because Internet connection is slow". Although it is slow, it has always connected before rooting. Now, I can't even send picture texts or be in group text messages. I've downloaded a few apps, but none that affects wifi.
Do you have this problem on all Wi-Fi or just one? I'd try resetting the router
I have about 5 wifi routers in my house and it doesn't work for any of them. I haven't tried it on a public wifi, but I'd assume it wouldn't work there either. I'm currently posting this from my house, so I know the wifi is working.
My download speed is 9 mbps and upload is 2.5 mbps so I know that the home wifi is not the issues, it has to be the phone. Is there something I could have forgotten to do that has caused this? or anything else?

Same problem here. Already posted about it in another thread. Have updated to 4.3 and eversince the phone won't connect to a wifi network unless it's placed right next to the router. Any other device connects smoothly. Same info when i check the wifi scan "Network disabled because Internet connection is slow". The problem stands for any router, not just mine.
I have already flashed a stock modem.bin, made no difference.
Had any better luck?
