Hi there,
I have a GSM hero and rooted it right from when I purchased it. I've since installed dozens of ROMS, one thing that always seems to happen though is the phone ignores some incoming calls, regardless of radio image. I will be in full signal, and hear a voicemail notification but the phone won't ring. If I call myself from a different phone sometimes it goes right to voicemail.
When the phone is not in standby mode it always rings, it just seems when the screen turns off it doesn't listen to the cell towers as much as it should.
Sometimes people have to call three or four times until the phone will actually ring.
It seems older roms (2.1) don't do this as much, but it still happens.
If it's a software problem, is there a bigger reset than the wipe all in recovery to try to remove this problem? I usually just do wipe all including dalvik and install a new image.
If it's a hardware problem, any way I can make the phone appear not rooted for warrenty (No Telus RUU's exist publically, and I wasn't smart enough to make a nandroid way back then)
Any help or advice is appreciated.
It sounds like a radio problem - hardware, but I'm not an expert. Best would be to put a 2.1 Stock ROM on it with all your carriers crap and remove apps such as Superuser etc. and just hope they don't notice.
try upgrading your htc hero's radio with the newest one out now..
had same issue and new radio happends to be the solution

Hi,
On my XDAII (1.72) I sometimes experience a not responding phone/SMS application or radio stack.
People trying to call me are instantly redirected to the voicemail, and if I try to make eiter a call or send a text message, respectively the phone application is stalling or the SMS 'Send' button stays in the 'pressed' state.
Soft-resetting the phone or toggling the 'turn off radio' function re-establishes the radio.
Does anyone knows of a solution?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and possibly rewarded with a 6-pack Heineken beer
weird, mines just done the same thing. I sent an sms and nothing. I was then taken to the phone screen and it said something like invalid sim something.
I'm wondering if the sim card is not locked in place. I was fiddling around with mine yesterday and maybe forgot to lock the sim card in place.
Just a thought but maybe worth checking
what radio version do you have ? I recently have the problem that when people call me, the ringtone goes for about 2 seconds, then restarts, etc.
Meanwhile I can do nothing ( green button don't work) . When the caller hangs up my phone returns to the normal state.
I use radio 1.18. Thinking of downgrading to 1.17 which people say is more stable.

ah.....
Hello folks,
I have the same problem now for a week... It's driving me crazy... At
some point in time during the night or the day my Qtek2020 gets weird.
The result is that people trying to call me can't connect but to viocemail,
and I can't receive SMS. The only way I can see that I am having this
problem is that whenever I try to send a SMS I get a message "your SMS
cannot be sent", and if I try to make a call, the phone seems to dial out
normally the first second, but then the DIAL-button (which is color-less)
becomes green again...
Please, if someone knows what's wrong or if someone had the same
problem and solved without having to default the whole thing, please
let me know what is the solution.. It is really annoying, so I now have
to randomly reset my phone throughout the day.
PS: my battery is now on 4% so I have to look for my charger, and
after that I can supply with info about radio-version etc. I am running
WM2003 by the way, and I've had no problems like this before, this
unit has been working fine until now. I guess it's a sw-bug? And I
am also wondering if this problem occurs whenever I pass a place
with low signal.. hmm, it's so annoying..
Thanks for any help!
Fred
I've been having problems similar to the OP for 2-3 weeks now (found this thread in a search before posting). It's damned annoying, as it means you can't really trust your phone - am I meant to reset every morning, or more frequently? It seems an intermittent problem, in so far as I've been receiving and making calls as normal, and then you someone asks 'did you get my text?'. Gritting teeth, you call the phone from a landline to find that calls are going straight to voicemail. After a soft reset all missing texts are received immediately, and calls can again be received.
When in this state other PDA functions seem to work as normal. However, I suspect that the power display is "suspended" too. On performing a soft reset after experiencing this problem today, I immediately got "your battery is extremely low", whereas before the reset I recall it was around 50% (vBar image). As others have stated, one clue that not all is well is that sent texts do not get a "Message sent" confirmation.
I've been racking my brains as to what's changed recently on my PDA. For family reasons I've been making a lot more calls than usual, but I also added TomTom Navigator 5 a couple of months ago, and so have started intermittently using BT. But I don't use Sat Nav that frequently, and this problem seems more prevalent.
I'm conscious that I don't have latest and greatest ROM, etc, but am vary about attempting upgrades without strong reasons.
Has anyone seen and solved this issue?
Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the sim card? After a while dust and general wear and tear can mess them up. Also as it's obviously(?) a phone problem it might be beneficial to call your service provider for a new sim card.
That's what I had to do last week. Wish you the best anyway.
It can't have anything to with the sim card as I'm having this problem with a brand new sim card.
I am using the latest HTC ROM in the UK with Radio v. 1.03.03.10. When I restart the unit in the morning after switching the power off overnight the phone is off enough times to be a nuisance if I do not notice it. Occasionally it switches into flight mode when the unit is on as well, but this seems to be happening less frequently. I also sometimes have difficulty making outgoing calls, ie the call ends before even getting connected, and redialling will not work until I switch the phone off and back on again. Is anyone else having these problems? Is this an issue with the radio ROM? I have read about the difficulties with the latest Radio ROM upgrades on the forum, and if a Radio ROM upgrade would solve the problem I would appreciate some advice on the best one to go with for use primarily in Europe, with occasional travel to the US and Japan.
Hi, Sorry to hear about your issues, I and a couple others here have or had the problem with the phone being off/flightmode after turning it off, then back on.
Theres a another post about this somewhere..I was just too lazy to find it before I posted, and last I checked a true fix hadn't been found.
If I am correct it shouldn't occur if you only do a softreset, and if you look at your signal bars when you shut it off, it looks like it turns the phone/radio off during the shutdown process...that is normal I'm pretty sure, cause even when it worked correctly it still shut the phone off before a power off, I think the issue is related to the startup process and it isn't correctly turning it back on.
I have had it work fine for the longest, and then when I installed some software it quit, after the fresh installation of software it has worked again, also I notice if I power off the phone while its charging and then power it back on, it always works correctly.
I haven't had any actual incall/call issues myself I can't say if a Radio upgrade would help with that, but I don't suspect a radio only upgrade would help with the flight mode being on after a power down, but I am far from being positive, I think its installed software/ROM related, sorry I can't be of some real help, I'm dealing with it myself..its aggrivating to me, I have forgotten to turn flightmode off and missed calls for half a day untill I looked and noticed.
Start the improvement way by upgrading the Radio ROM
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Here you can find the 1.20 ROM, extracted from JASJAM ROM. Try to install it on your device.
Tell me about this.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions. Most helpful.
yes - i get that too - constantly (on a t-mob vario) - i get bumped off the network at least 5-10 times a day and it takes me anywhere between and 10 minutes to get back on. i also get bumped off systematically every night (i am always off when i get up).
calls too are a disaster - an average, it takes me 3 or 4 tries to complete a call when i have full network. (sometimes as much as 10-15 tries)
took my sim and put it into a magician and all went away, so *suppose* it could be a 3g thing, but i am really not convinced because the hermes does have a 2g radio as well (so it should fall back onto 2g whenever 3g fails...)
Not a Fix but a Working Solution
I started having the issue of the radio being off on startup a few weeks ago.
So I invested($10) in a copy of SK Softwares Scheduling Manager SKScheMa.
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?skschema/m_skschema.html
This has a powerful scripting language and one of the script commands is "GPRS on"
I created a shortcut in the startup folder to a GPRS On script. and since then I have had no more problems.
i´ve the some problem, what do you do for no more problems ?¿?¿
thanks
Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Do you know by any chance if this also provides a way to have the phone ring through the speaker when it is connected to a Bluetooth headset?
>Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Do you know by any chance if this also provides a way to have the phone ring through the speaker when it is connected to a Bluetooth headset?<
If you are refering to SKSchema, then this should be possible. You can create a script that runs when a call is received.
The script can then instruct the phone to play a sound file.
We turned off the UMTS service and reverted back to GSM and that seems to have solved the issue.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
J.
Just a slight update to maybe help find the cause, I had created a backup with spb before the problem occurred (minus pim data and emails not sure if it mattered) and after having the problem arise again and a few other issues, I decided to hard reset and try out the backup I made.
After installing my backup the problem was gone, and then I got bored the other day and installed some software, and I think removed some, and I had it happen once again after I had ran memmaid 1.72 and rebooted.
I don't know if it the software installaions that are causing it..but one thing that has been a constant is the memmaid, and it could even be my fault.
Is anyone having this happen to a basically oem device?

Well, I can't exacly tell why but I get the same feeling about extra software.
After a hardreset or ROM upgrate (now Cing 1.34/radio 1.16) everything's fine. I deactivate ActiveSync and install some extra software (PocketZenPhone, Total Commander, Regedit, TomTom). After a few days still everything's fine. So I install some other software (SPB PocketPlus, Jetware, a today- and phoneskin) and still everything's fine for a few days. But then on a (not so) fine day: it hangs! The phone doesn't react or TomTom is hanging on the startup screen or the whole device is freezing. Why? I don't know, softreset and everythings fine for a few days.
I notices a few situations while it happened: first when I connected the carpower adapter and second a few times while receiving a phonecall (in my carkit and on poweroff).
Uninstalling everything doesn't seem to do the trick: it still hangs now and then. Also I dont have the patience to hardreset and use my device clean, without extra programs for a few weeks. But I guess in that case everything would be ok (?). But a device without the extra's has no use to me...
My feeling is that the installing the extra's causes a instability in the registry or elsewhere. I also have the feeling that the hardware causes certain instability: the gliding keyboard, the screen (alignmentproblems), the buttons, the SD-card, the network cards, bluetooth... (I had my device in repair with HCT because of the too easy gliding keyboard, the stylus, and the instability with TomTom, but those problems are solverd for now, exept for TomTom). So much hardware, so much software, all in one small device...
A small addition to my previous post: I think another possible cause for instability are the famous memoryleaks. Starting and stopping programs in my opinion never clears the whole memory, in spite of "real" programstoppers like SPB PocketPlus. After working a few days this could cause a freeze (?)
Hi Everyone, I have searched for an answer to my problem but cannot find anything.
I have upgraded my G1 to Cyanogen, and everything works fine except I get no notifications to text messages, they just arrive, with nothing to tell me they have arrived.
Another problem is when I call my phone, it rings once and then gives an engaged tone. There is nothing coming up on the phone to say I have a call, however it does put the call in my missed call list...
I have checked GSM call settings but all forwarding is disabled.
I have just upgraded to the latest cyanogenmod with the updater software, however I still have the same problem.
Another thing that doesnt seem to work is the home button, and camera button, and the phone no longer locks.
I am at a loss for what to try, apart from trying to flash the phone back to its original state.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When you did the update did you wipe first? You can fix your problem, but you need to wipe your phone. So wipe, then reaaply the update. This does happen to people from time to time, and I've yet to see the direct cause or solution. A possibility is something in the dalvik-cache.
So, I went to make a phone call earlier and realized I hit the wrong number. I ended the call immediately and then immediately tried to call the right number and the call just ended before it even rang. Now I am unable to make phone calls as every time I try to call any number it says calling and then the call just instanly ends. Anyone have any idea what is going on?
First option would be to power off and pull the battery. If it doesn't work after trying that, than second option would be to perform a hard reset.
Regards,
Tom
are you running the stock rom, or are you rooted with clockwork recovery installed, and running a different rom?
I have definitely tried rebooting, removing battery, sim, etc. I have now discovered that this only happens when I am at work. I am going to have to do more extensive testing to figure out exactly where I can make calls and where I can't but could it have something to do with which tower I am connected to? I have full signal and data and sms work fine.
*edit* I have not rooted it yet or installed a custom ROM.
Okay, well. Now it appears to be working. Now I'm really confused. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?
nope, it sounds nuts to me.
i would recommend using the phone a lot and trying to recreate the problem under specific circumstances. perhaps its a faulty piece of hardware.
Hello,
This doesn't always happen, but i have had my phone in one hand and i have been calling it with my home phone in the other hand and it goes straight to voice-mail even though i have full/plenty of signal! It seems to happen more consistently when the phone is asleep, but does occasionally happen with the screen on. This appears random, but happens A LOT! My girlfriend has given up calling me because she is fed up of hearing my voicemail!
This problem DOES NOT EXIST when im just booted in WinMo, only happens after i boot into android. I have checked this lots to rule out a lot of problems. However, in case it helps i am on O2 UK.
I have followed all the FAQ's and other info for clean installs and how to keep everything working, but just cant seem to shake this one problem!
This problem has happened consistently using different builds from different chefs. I am using the 2.15.50.14 radio ROM and the latest NRG WinMo ROM (have tried a couple but doesnt seem to affect my android!)
I have tried searching, but cant find anything specific to Android booting on Winmo to do with this problem.
Can you help me?!
Thanks,
Max
Please somebody help me, this is a serious problem, after all, a phones first and foremost feature should be a phone!
Try flashing a new radio onto the phone
Go back to an older radio? I'll give it a shot
Thanks
Flashing a new radio has made no difference Someone must have an answer! As odd as this sounds, i think the phone doesnt show the calls when the screen is on... havnt tested this theory much though...
I've had the same problem no matter if it's an SD build or a NAND rom. It's like when the phone goes in standby it just loses service or something. It NEVER happens when I have it set only on Edge though. It's weird! I guess it's a good think I don't answer the phone most the time anyways.
This is still happening on different radios and roms. I have also noticed that occasionally i have full signal but when i try to do anything online i get a connection error message, also i am unable to send any messages, handcent sms goes crazy thinking that i have signal but being unable to send the message giving me about 5 notifications per unsent text, imagine what happens when i send out a group text....!
This is not a huge issue on the net, which must mean theres a fix or everybody would be having this?
Whats different about my circumstances?!
Again, to reiterate, i have absolutely no problems on WinMo.
i used to get this a fair bit with certain radios on wm roms, stock and cooked, still do occasionally, , i have a very weak reception spot in my house, and if i sit there for too long it does it. I can walk back upstairs (great signal) but it continues to show 1 bar, and calls go to vm.
The only thing that ever worked for me was changing the radio. i have it down to two that very rarely do it, 2.07.50 and 2.11.50.
I also started using a toggle to keep 3g off unless i was using it, i think it is possibly triggered by auto switching gsm/3g/gsm/3g/gsm/3g.
I had one today .. missed call .. Didn't show up on the phone.
I had one today .. missed call .. Didn't show up on the phone.
Only way I knew someone had called .. was they left a VM.
However 99% of my callers never leave a VM.
( Mostly Cause I Tell them Not to! lol )
Because I always see the missed calls and call them back!
Really would like to find a fix ..
I use my phone for Biz and if I miss a call that could me $$$ out of my pocket!
Maybe the Devs Can Figure it out
I have also had this problem with both sd and nand android. Not sure if it happened with winmo, never known of it happening with winmo. But I too have called from house phone to my cell and the call doesn't show up on my cell, and when I check the cell, I have a signal. It's always been in standby when it happens afaik. The only reason I know it happens often is because my girlfriend will tell me that she's called a couple times and my phone wouldn't show it. I figured it must be a problem with T-mobile or something, but hearing that other people have this problem with android, it makes me wonder what the real issue is. I'm gonna be playing around with wp7 now in addition to android, so I'll try to see if I have this problem with wp7. I actually usually have people call my google voice number now, which transfers the calls to my cell and my house, and then google voice lets me know if i miss a call, so this way I know for sure if I miss a call.
Similar issue... possibly a build problem?
I've had this occur on some builds of Android too. I didn't use WinMo long enough to make a comparison. Does it occur more when you are in a weak signal area? Most of the times it has happened to me, I have been sitting with the phone in my pocket, and I think the reception might not be the best.
switching to a NAND ROM seems to have fixed my problem for now! Shame that didnt work for you.
Yeah please let us know if it exists in WP7. No idea how to use google voice, maybe i should check it out!
