I have encountered an unusual issue (bug?) on the HD and wondered if anyone else had seen the problem (and found a solution!)
First the issue:
When I rotate the device to landscape, applications initially rotate properly. However, after a few seconds the phone dialer screen appears (in landscape mode). It blinks once or twice (like the screen is redrawing) and stays there for perhaps five seconds before switiching back to the original app. However, even though the device is still held i landscape, the application is now in portrait mode too and the only way to get it back to landscape is to rotate the device back to portrait then to landscape again...at which point the whole cycle repeats.
Things I have tried to clear the problem:
So far, all I have tried is a soft reset, which I thought had cleared the problem at first. Sadly, however, it's back.
Repeatability and conditions:
I've only done one soft reset so far as I wanted to investigate a bit further first
It initially happened in Opera with GSen off (it is installed though)
It happens whether or not GSen is active
It happens in all applications, not just Opera (obviously GSen is active when it happens in other applications)
I don't have a HD (yet) but i've read somewhere that GSEN is not working correctly on the HD. There is suppused to be a tool called "Gyrator2" which does the same but is more stable on the HD.

May be an option, but I haven't had any problems with GSen and I seem to get the issue whether or not GSen is active. I have even had it in an instance where GSen had not been activated since the previous reboot.
Thanks for the thought though, I'll investigate...
please don't use GSen since it's heavily bugged atm for the HD.. Gyrator2 is an option even though consumes a lot of cpu power (device become slow whenever Gyrator2 rotates the screen)

Will the problem go away if you uninstall GSEN? I mean, not just making it inactive, but to completely remove it.

Annoyingly enough (in one way) I've not had the issue since I soft reset a few hours ago. I'm keeping a close eye to see if i can trap what I have been doing just before the issue recurs.
I have suspicions about PCM Contacts but have no good reason to, other than the fact the problem started at roughtly the same time as I installed the latest version.
Next step is to try removing GSen, as you suggest, but I want the issue to recur first to see if I can make some sense of what's happening...
The problem isn't with Gsen.
This happened to me while browsing, it just kept flicking back to portrait and then coming out of Opera.
As a result I thought I'd install Gsen and everything worked perfectly for about an hour. I left the phone (locked) for a while to attend to a few other things and then it started again.
Now I've not had the phone long 10 days or so but I have installed a lot of cabs and applications. At first I thought it might be a bug on the HD but unfortunately it could be anything.
What I will say is that I didn't have this problem before I added new tab icons (manilla), installed Schaps AC or changed the calc skin. Gsen was next on my list.
A soft reset seemed to work for me.
Hope this helps.

Switching the phone on and off seems to clear the problem for a while. Anyone solved this?
My solution
Just wanted to say that i had this exact problem.
Fugured it had to be a problem with som custom stuff i had installed, and so it was.
Started uninstalling backwards from the last installed thing, and found that the problem was caoused by a custom status icon cab I installed.
Named Colored Top Bar WWE ST.cab
If you have something similar, this could be the problem.
(BTW, I'm not bashing the author of this file at all. Everyone should know that installling custom stuff is your own responsibility)

i cannot conclusively say if it's a problem with GSEN or not. but i had the exact same problem with GSEN installed, but not activated. i couldn't solve the problem so i did a hard reset (i didn't bother uninstalling gsen and try it again). i don't have problems anymore, but i do have all my old applications installed, except for GSEN. i currently do not have gyrator or any other screen rotating app installed. i don't have a need for them at the moment. so i don't conclude anything, you can deduce from here.

I have the same Top Bar and don't have the issue you guys have been describing.
my problem is kinda similar but a little different, my opera works fine w/ landscape and portrait, but when I try to access My Faviorite in landscape mode, it would only display in portrait even though I was holding it landscape and the second half of the screen was still the page content. it's weird and I still didn't got time to do a hard reset first, any one experience this?
I have this issue (damnit), and I am using those color-top-bar-icons. However, I have never been using GSen, I am using gyrator 2. Can anybody confirm that it is top-bar-icons that's causing the problem?
I have the issue and I don't have the top bar colored icons installed.
I do have Gyrator 2 but the problem still occurs when Gyrator 2 is not running.
I don't know why it occurs and it goes away by itself...seems sporadic.
I got Gyrator2 on mine too, but I don't see people in Gyrator thread complaining about this happening...um...do I really need a hard reset for this?
(by the way, I disable all rotation and only enable the programs I used, of course Opera is disabled)
update from mine, I just did a hard reset the the landscape favorite in Opera still got messed up, so I restored my device and gave up. gotta wait for new official ROM maybe...
I first experienced this problem when I last installed TouchIt 3.01.
When I slide out the keyboard on my X1, the screen semms to freeze. Nothing happens. The screen stays in portrait mode and does not accept any input on it. When I close my phone i can interact with it without any problems.
I installed the Stock Rom, but still the same.
Anyone has an idea how to solve this?
If it happens on multiple ROMs, including stock, I'd almost think there's a hardware problem. Try hard resetting - if it keeps happening, have your unit checked.
This was my guess too but I hoped someone had a solution without sending the device back to SE.
I have a problem with rotation to landscape that cropped up a while back and I haven't gotten around to posting about it.
I use Artemis ROM, and a while ago upon updating to v2.5 I started to encounter this weird rotation issue (details later). I figured it was just an issue with that version of the ROM, so I waited. Plus I don't use landscape that much, so it wasn't an issue.
6 hours ago I flashed v6.0, and now I'm having the same issue still, so I don't think it's the ROM.
The issue is this: When I turn the phone on, everything is fine, for 6 hours to a day. After that whenever I turn the phone to rotate it to landscape (in any application under any circumstances until I reboot the phone) it'll rotate for ~1 second, and the flip back to portrait.
The device is still rotated to where it should be in landscape when this occurs.
I became suspicious that it was a problem with the accelerometer, so I experienced the problem, and then immediately played Teeter, and Teeter was 100% normal.
Any solutions, I'd really appreciate it, as it's bugging me now that it's cropped up in a much later version.
+1........quoto ; )
I did a hard reset a few days ago and had exactly the same problem when browsing Opera 9.7 in landscape. It would sit in landscape until I touched the screen to move it, then it would switch back to portrait immediately.
I recalibrated the G-sensor and did a soft reset and it's been fine ever since.

Have you soft reset it since then?
Because the problem -- for me -- isn't there when I first power the device on, it appears sometime later and won't go away until I soft reset.
Other than that the ROM is perfect.
BTW, I switched to EnergyROM from Artemis, and the problem occurred again this morning...
for me with artemis 7.0 same problem
Make sure a program that only works in portrait is not running in the background.
This happened to me when I figured out it was actually the Flashlight app running in the background still.
Try closing the programs you have in the background, if needed with a task manager.
Maybe it comes from the Flashligt. Try to close the Flashligt with taskmanager.

Aye, multiple times, the recalibration and first soft reset fixed it for me and I haven't had the problem since.

Thank-you so much!
Artemis 2.5 was where the Flashlight app was added -- before that I used TorchLight, which I'll going back to now -- and because of its long "warm up" (that stupid animation...amy way to disable that?) I would leave it open in the background.
I just tested, opening the Flashlight, trying the rotation -- which caused the problem -- then closing it and trying it -- which solved it.
Because I like landscape for the calculator and typing, this was crippling to me, now it's figured out and I can get back to loving my phone!
Hi,
Bizarre problem started happening on my HD2 a couple of days ago... all HTC apps are now being forced into horizontal orientation, and they won't rotate back to portrait whatever position I hold the phone in.
Other apps not by HTC are fine, for example Opera 10 starts in portrait mode and I can freely rotate between landscape and portrait just fine... it's only HTC's own apps that are affected, so Phone, Messages, Calculator... stuff like that.
I haven't installed any apps recently, this has happened completely at random. I'm able to disable rotation in BsB Tweaks. But I don't want to have to do this. I just want it back to normal. Tried all the obvious things like soft reset etc. It temporarily worked the first time but doesn't now. Re-calibrated G-Sensor... no effect though, and seeing as other apps work fine this clearly isn't the problem.
I'm running stock UK (Vodafone) ROM 1.72. Don't really wanna reload the firmware but I will if I have to. Anyone else had this happen? Any ideas what to do?
Thanks.
Last night I found that my Note 3 won't screen rotate - it's stuck in portrait mode. Doesn't matter what I do with the settings it stays in portait with one exception - the camera still detects the orientation change and rotates the screen elements accordingly so the sensor is clearly still working.
I'm at a loss. I did a full backup and have factory reset it - no difference, still only the camera detects the change. Tried a full power off with SIM out then another factory reset, no good.
I'm on original TW with 4.4.2 (rooted). The last time I recall it working would have been a couple of days ago and sadly I don't have a recent enough nandroid backup to be of any use
Has anyone else experienced this before? Any other suggestions before I start down the re-ROM path? Please...

No, but it's been frozen for months. In fact I can't think of anything in particular that I've installed of late that would rate as out of the ordinary, except GMD gesture control lite and I couldn't see anything in that which should cause that sort of problem.
Out of curiosity, why do you ask about Hub? Is this a known problem related to it?
In the end I decided to take the opportunity to clean the device down, so I restored the most recent nandroid (3 months old but same rom) then factory reset and restore - all is now good but I really don't understand what corrupted the rom so the problem survived a reset. Just wierd I guess.
