G1 rom modding - G1 General

it seems im not allowed to post in the dev section (probably for good reason too) i have been trying a few roms of late but the majority seem to have an issue that irks me
i have found one rom thats near perfect for my needs though, beatmod, its quick stable and nice to use, the only downside is that my battery life sucks on it, i usually have to charge by lunch time, however the kernel in the new gingeryoshi seems to make the battery last forever. ive tried flashing the kernel as a zip in recovery but it doesnt work so how would i go about putting the farmatio kernel from GY into beatmod? any help, especially a link to a tutorial for breaking images down and rebuilding them with the bits i want in are greatly appreciated, sorry if its a noobish question but we all have to start somewhere and more and more im thinking that im going to have to learn to build my own if i want to get things the way i want them (im not saying the current images are bad in any way, just that id like my own mix)
edit
excuse my ignorance, i just found chef central so i guess its time for some reading

Well, first thing, I think this post belongs over in the General Forum. This is the place for Chef's to post their ROMs. But we'll let a Mod decide that and since I'm not a Mod...
The great thing about flashing ROMs is that there are so many to choose from. I can't tell you from week to week which one is my favorite, but then I do a weekly flash just to stay on top of the latest stuff
If your phone is freezing due to the well-known SMS bug, you can either find a ROM that replaced the HTC Messaging with something more stable.
If you are like me, you will probably pick your first ROM based on looks, and then from there you may end up flashing different ones that satisfy your current needs.
I've never heard of anyone breaking their phone by flashing too much, but you still want to be careful and only flash ROMs that have positive feedback in the comments. At least, at first.
After you get some experience, you may just decide to start going crazy and make your own
Best approach is to read the first few posts of the roms you are interested in, map them against any requirements you have and try a few. Read the various stickies and tutorials carefully first.

[Q] Extended Battery on .50 radio?

Hi all sorry if this question has been repeated (my search patience is next to none) -
I want to invest on an extended.battery to cope with my excessive phone usage, um fairly new to androiding my phone and have done it successfully, but want to know if the extended.battery would work after downgrading to a .50 radio as HTC say that a Rom upgrade.may be required and dont want to invent on something that may not work.
Any help would be much apreciated

This is the reason why you don't get any answers. If you would know how to use this function right you would have spend less time than writing this thread.

First of all, search the forum.
As I'm in a good mood today:
1. flash a nice WinMo ROM, which is made suitable for android
2. flash the 2.12 or 2.14 radio
3. copy android to SD
4. enjoy awesomeness!
to completely answer your question, you just need to use a suitable radio and use this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756513
If you would have searched the forum, you would have read this and I wouldn't be typing this. The world is so big and so small at the same time...
@ dusdus
Yes, your mood must be very good today, cause mine isn't.
Yeah well, I'm usually a very patient guy and can still remember being a noob in all this.
The only difference is that I didn't dare to post a thread like this, so I started figuring it out myself.
Some people...just..don't. Or something. I guess a lot of times it's the young kids who are too impatient and/or too stupid
maby its good to change the header because i good thread.
builds compatible for extended batteries
Do we know any other builds with SENSE or any other way to make it??
First of all thanks for the help I now know where to go and secondly I dont appreciate the immature comments received from someone stating the younger generation for being "too impatient and/or too stupid " as I'm 25 myself and live a busy lifestyle both at work and at home and regularly use car related forums as I enjoy that community with friendlier forumees and not surprised by the comments from people that do this 24l7 which clearly shows they have no association from the outside world.
You may class me as a noob but I feel that I have done really well with my phone considering my lack of experience and little spare time that I have to work on my hd2
Once again thank you

Suggestion for thread with a poll of Different roms

Hi everyone
I got my HTC HD2 and it had WinMob,I ordered it last week so i have being doing my homework and im not a complete noob
While i was waiting for it to arrive i was playing around with an Android Phone,I really like the interface and app store and have decided to switch.
I will be using the NAND method and have read over all the guides but theres a few things i need help with,
The 1st is prob a total noob question so forgive me
(1)My radio version is r 2 06 51 07 so from what i can gather i should be ok using this? The only reason i ask is in case this was an update that HTC applied to stop people changing the OS
(2)When choosing a stable ROM will ii have all the features i have with WinMob(Flash,Camera,Wifi,Bluetooth etc)
I have read a lot of threads and from what i gather some roms will have all these features while others are still being updated
(3)
WHich ROM version to use?
Now from looking around the threads i understand this is like "Walking in to a bar and asking 10 guys which beer to drink" But to be honest im looking for a stable Rom that will have all the features,Basically a noob rom,Im not really looking for a ROM that will give me a lot more features than WinMob
After a while when im more confident i will start changing roms and reporting
bugs to help the developers here
(4) Suggested Donation to the developer of the ROM
Developers put countless hours in to developing these roms are are nice enough to give it to us for free and are happy with a thank you
I think its only fair to make a donation,However what amount would be suggested,
I have used the search function and have found a lot of the answers i was going to ask but i cant seem to find the answers to the above questions,
If they have being asked before ghen please tell me the keywords to search,I know how busy people are on this site and dont want to be wasting there time
Thank You in Advance
(1) I'm not sure but i believe only 2.xx.50 radio's were supported by Android/MAGLDR/CLK
Try this thread, i don't know if it also applies to T-Mobile US or Telstra versions.
Be sure to have HardSPL installed on your device, otherwise you can't install the radio.
2.15.50.14 is the most commonly used radio.
(2) Android development for the HD2 has been going for ages now and it's practically an android native device nowadays with all drivers present and working.
Although there are some modifications needed to fully support Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (almost everything is working, but the camera drivers won't record video and there where some issues with data drops) but allot of people are working on it.
(3)For starters i would suggest Hyperdroid, it should be fast and stable.
If you're becoming anxious for more fiddling around and trying to get every little bit of power available in your HD2 then try Dorimanx's ROM.
(4) That's personal, if you don't like it a bit then don't donate. If you think it has completely wiped the urge/need to buy yourself a new phone then you could donate a nice sum of money. Between 5 and a 100 dollars.
Hope i've been of help.
Thank You
I was wrong about the radio version and im trying to change that at the moment,Im having a few problems with the syncing but im looking around the threads and think i know what the problem is.
Il look in to those ROMS you suggested.
Thank you for the help

sorry, no offense intended. But look: if you read through those threads you will find many people having problems (some ROM or bug related, some individually related to ppls setups or they mess things up whatever).
I guess a lot of people I know and read of here at XDA do exactly the same thing as I do: either having a good read through the whole thread or staying on the safe side by having a full nandroid backup or asking the people using the ROM or - what I most likely will do: all of that
In other words: all of those ROMs have issues - some might be minimal or even don't show up for most of the people while others can't even considered as an alpha release as important things simply don't work.
This has been the long story - like I said: no offense (but I won't drop my sarcasm, sorry).
And please...: This is NOT pointless. On top of the OP of the Gummy ROM even my grandma could read (in BIG letters):
Rom experiment (oh but wait... it's not in red... and not blinking... so probably he doesn't mean "experiment" - he just wrote that for fun... )
---EDIT---
furthermore if you really like to help it wouldn't hurt to be more specific. At least for Oxygen you should be aware of that there's another ROM (2.3.7) - could lead into confusion
To the op, see you in another 4 months when you open your next pointless thread..........
You only need 10 posts to post in the dev section which isn't that hard to get is it? Your already halfway there........

usually im not the first to respond to a rom, at the time of the original post no one had given a response to oxygen (ics) and in the main thread someone asked if it was stable etc. Having tested and reverted (yes with my nandroid backup)i imparted MY experience with both as no one else seemed to bother. and in all fairness probs saved alot of people who have capped internet time and bandwidth.
yes im aware of the big EXPERIMENT sign, insulting my understanding of English is poor play, as you should know experiment explains NOTHING more than "this is a test" it does not go into what works and what doesnt (wonders how many people downloaded gummy since the 5th and were impressed till they got a phone call) someone asked a question and i replied.
i know i need to make ten posts to be able to post in dev,
just seems everytime i do i get abuse from a bunch of elitists,
like you didnt all start somewhere
peace
EDIT: if you look at the roms thread you will see the reply to "is it stable" is infact a link to this thread, so yes your comments were POINTLESS
lol more now :banghead: I'm getting headache with all my headbanging.

no worries - really - and yes "elitists" might of course match - as this is XDA Developers a place where most people aren't developers but elitists but it is not the Google Play Store (where you expect things to work and otherwise give a low rating and a negative comment). I appreciate that there are people over here (like you) who want to help - that's a good thing. On the other hand (almost) everything here goes over modding, hacking, tweaking, making your phone your own and I seriously doubt that many of the users here think you could try any of those custom ROMs without any risk. So to make it a bit clearer and to be absolute honest (hey and still no offense intended and really, really no worries): my personal opinion, my initial and very first thought when I did read your post was: this post is pointless. yup - that's all. Just take your time a few weeks (in case you like to participate - looks like you do) and you probably will understand what I mean...
OMG I'm already letting the troll out again... Like I said: all good - don't take it too serious

[Q] Newbie needs help

Hello,
I figure there must be tremendous amounts of threads that relate to what I may be asking for already, but I wanted to make sure I asked everything right until I head on my own and start messing around with my phone.
I currently have a two year old myTouch 4g, and it has run fine, though it does lag a lot ever since this one over the air update mobile had released...and I always knew I can install a ROM to fix that issue, but the issue at the time was I had no time (college and work).
I am now on spring break, and have a week of free time, and figured I can install a ROM to help my phone become "alive" and fast!
Well, I don't know much about ROMS or which ones are the best ones, but ideally, I want one that is very fast, stable, and if it is possible, can it even be the latest Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich? Never tried those versions out, figured I might be getting tired of Gingerbread.
I don't know a lot about how to do any of these processes but I am very capable of reading tutorials and links if you guys have any suggestions on that.
I once again apologize for making another thread about my desire to have a fast and running phone again, just wanted to make sure it gets answered as I had requested it to be.
Thanks!
I would suggest starting here for information concerning rooting: Newcomers please read me, a helpful little guide
After that, if you are on the right chipset and eligible to root, then I suggest reading the stickied guides in the Glacier dev forum to gain root access.
After that, as for which ROM is the best or fastest or most stable, there is no one here that can correctly answer that question except for you as everyone uses their phone differently. We also consider it somewhat gauche to ask as there are many devs here that share their work for free and it can be considered disrespectful to them. Feel free to try different ROMs until you find the one that feels right to you. Once you get set up and started, it is very quick and easy to flash a new ROM so you won't need a week if you want to change.
With that said, I am closing this thread. If you need help in getting root or installing a custom recovery then please post questions in the appropriate threads and people there will be glad to help.
Thank you,
