I am very new to this high tech stuff, I have a usa t-mobile mda vaio, which i paid to unlock. I know, i could have done it for free, but i could not figure it out. In doing some reading i think i want to unlock my cid, and i want to turn my omapclock speed up to 240. And what about updating my Rom. And how do i back up my file, if necessary. And please easy directions if possible. My phone is off, because of a $4000 dollar internet bill, because they would not give me the code, when i went overseas and used the internet for 7 days. What a surprise. But my wifi still works. Help please.
Rom version: 1.8.10.2 wwe
Rom date: 12/10/05
Radio version: 01.09.10
Protocal vers: 4.0.13.20
ExtRom vers: 1.8.10.104
I dont have a clue as to what this means, but it looks old, compared to everyone else.
wow
wow, what a great forum. I have a million responses. I want to say thank you for all who helped.
this has all has been covered elsewhere, ad nauseum, over and over and over again right here on this very site. Spending a little time looking for things like "omapclock" and then reading them will answer all your questions and then some. For the-universe-revolves-around-me service, they take paypal.
MDA Vaio? So you're saying that Sony and HTC teamed up to build a laptop/Pocket PC hybrid? I'd like to know where I can get my hands on one of these.

People won't help you because its already been said. Your just a waste of bandwidth. You sound like a little kid, i want this, i want that.
You want to OC' 240, then keep reading that thread noob.
AND THE SARCASM WAS NECCESARY, maybe that's why no body is helping. No one is your slave to check every minute and answer your post.
people here seem to think that lazy people should die, when in all reality theyre just as lazy.
to cid unlock it you need ot get lokiwiz software. if youve already upgraded to 2.26, its too late to cid unlock it. to overclock, get omapclock.exe. i use that program in conjunction with smartskeys personally, because the smartskeys.ini file has customizable overclock settings.
thats a start partner, but youll hafta do the legwork yourself cuz im lazy too haha
Thank you. For the response. The only other thing that i have done is down load skype which i think is great. I can admit i am not a computer geek, but I am great in my field. Mortgage financing. So yes i am clueless, and could maybe use a little extra help. And if there is someone out there who could use some mortgage help. I am here. I just dont want to fry my mda.

Doesn't matter if you're clueless. As long as you can use the search functions, and bother to take some time to read thru the endless amount of information in these forums. Then you too can be as logical as I have become in the past few months when I originally didn't know a damn thing.
Thanks again. This is the program i used to unlock the phone. http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php. Did this also unlock the cid? And if yes, how can i tell? And what about backing up the program. So based on the spec's i have listed on my phone, what should i up grade, beside's the omapclock i think to 240.
Well you ddint' need to waste your money. You can unlock your phone for free if you would have bothered to search and read through the results.
Search -> CID Unlock -> Choose wizard forum to search through
Search -> Backup -> Choose wizard forum to search through
You either seem to be lacking common sense or need your hand held through every step.
lol.

Have you not read all this, he is clueless! Sorry i am in the look and you will findout. I come on here everyday and I find something new. But i started from not knowing a thing!! but now I can show my friends these cool things. IT's not hard to look and learn.
Just Maybe.................
Just a quick suggestion to any moderators or site managers
These "Why dont you use the search function" threads come up time and time again.
The problem for noobs doing a search is the (sometimes) many many pages of post to wade through.
Even if you happen to chance on the exact answer, how do you know you have found it when one thread may contain 3,4 or 5 examples of how to solve a problem??? I give an example, Tomtom 6, or any gps related problem.
I spent a total of 4hrs 10mins on MSN with one user who was having problems with his GPS and TT. I didn't mind in the least, but after lots of hair tearing, we found the problem was his GPS wasnt in a place to recieve a decent GPS signal, i.e. a window cill.
Joking aside, is there any way of having either locked stickies or a seperate forum for each device to have HOW TO's??
There are many people on here that could easily write a guide, post it and then have it locked so the thread doesn't spiral out of control.
Maybe some of them would be happy to recieve PM's if there was a legitimate problem with either that guide or for the varying device configurations?
And before I get flamed, Its just a suggestion.
Jerry I agree 100%. This is the one of the forums I have found that does NOT have stickies for often asked about topics.
I also feel that this site needs a kick in the ass with a little patience.
You can tell none of these people work in customer service. THink of it this way...if you are spending 4 or more hours on here a day you are passionate about this topic and you would think you want others to become passionate too which will advance the demand for more of these type of sites and products. You really think giving these noobs as you call them a hard time when they first try and learn about this stuff will help anyone? Except save you precious time to search something else or maybe give you a chance to bust another noobs dreams of learning something about his/her new gadget.
This is the only reason I do not visit this site. Not that I need it but none the less. A real bunch of asses here if you ask me.....
Guys and Girls
The use search is a true pain in the ass if you dont understand what you are doing. It has its own laws and also words that it will never find. I have been here for a year and I still cant work it out. But I agree its a start. Nothing will change untill we move to new software for the fixxing is just to costly.
Sure the same post and answer comes up on this forum, over and over agian. There are still people that spend the time to point people in the right direction.
Stickys, well we have them and still they are not read, more we have more time it takes to move down the list for some meat.
Solution. WIKI, edit the pages and the information and point people to it.
And please, lets see if we can use some nice language, I am all for free speach but we all diserve a bit of respect.

On my T-Mobile (USA) MDA, so far I've just used the standard stock ROM, the latest of them that came out.
As I'm having some problems now with my MDA (not sure if hardware or software), and would hope to keep it going until a good 3g smartphone is available on T-Mobile, I'm thinking of reflashing the ROM, reinstalling my software, etc.
So, if I'm going to have to reflash it anyhow, I might as well try one of the many cooked ROMs available on this web site.
There seem to be many of them on this site, with so many very long threads devoted to them.
I don't have time to read through all those threads, to try to determine which ROM would be best for me to try. So, if people could sum up in this thread, which are the best ROMs and why, it would make it easier for me and others.
I would want one that is very stable, used by many without problems. Having problems with the phone anyhow, I don't want to risk a ROM that will bring more problems.
Preferably WM6, even more preferably 6.1, but if those ROMs are not as stable on the MDA as the WM5 Roms, then I would go with the latter.
Anyhow, curious to hear people's feedback, regarding the best of the Wizard cooked ROMs.

Um, don't you think someone would have done this by now?
What you are asking (and believe me when I tell you, you are not the first, or the last, to ask it) is a subjective question, with subjective answers, no two of which will be the same.
While the idea is a noble one, it's been asked for by just about every new person on these threads (I probably did it too, once).
The simple answer: read the list of software on five or six of the most recently published ROMs at the Wizard Mobile 6 list, and flash the one you like best. These days, almost all of them are G4 safe, so you probably don't have to worry about that, and as long as you keep a copy of your service provider's base ROM, a copy of the Hard SPL, Soft SPL, and maybe a copy of Wizard Love ROM, you'll do fine.
Better yet, just stay with WM5 if you want stable. Stability's not really one of the high points of home-cooked ROMs, in my opinion.
Maybe you don't even need to flash. If you're having a hardware problem, flashing could be a bad idea. If your hardware decides to glitch while you're in the middle of a flash, you won't be waiting to get a new phone, you'll be in the store before you're ready. Why don't you try starting a new thread with your symptoms, and see if we can't help you solve your problem, instead of trying to mask it with a new ROM?
I'm sure you are right that there is subjectivity involved, that different people have different opinions. So--give your opinions.
I didn't just ask "which is the *best* rom", which would have been a very subjective question, such as "what is the best car", or "what is the best food". I specifically described my case, that I'm not interested in experimenting with 20 different ROMs, but asking which ones could be considered stable and safe (not risky and experimental), while providing better functionality than my present one.
Yes, as I wrote, I am having problems with my MDA, which I think could very likely be hardware-based, and will not be fixed with re-flashing. The only way to know is to try though. The phone is a few years old, I am thinking of getting a new one soon, but waiting until T-Mobile has a 3g WM smartphone available, that I like.
Why would re-flashing be something to try? I figure just like if one is having software problems on a computer, that one cannot fix, one thing to do is to format the hard drive, and reinstall the OS, start from scratch in installing applications, etc. A lot of hassle, but it can work, to solve problems. Re-flashing a phone is similar, wiping out all data, starting new, etc. Sure, the most stable way would be to flash back to the same ROM I'm using now, the latest official one for my phone. But while going to the trouble of doing that, it seems like an opportune time to try one of these newer ROMs, that I've been curious about for some time, but never bothered with before.
What are some of the problems I've been having? (This just started a couple days ago.) Neither Bluetooth or Wi-Fi will turn on, for instance. OS freezing up a lot. Definitely seems like I need an OS reinstallation, and AFAIK on the phone, the way to do that is through re-flashing.
True, after down-flashing to an AKU 1 ROM for the purpose of CID-unlocking, and going back to my current 2.26 T-Mobile AKU 2 ROM, I should try the phone out a little from there, make sure everything's working, before flashing to one of the newer ROMs. No use wasting my time further if the problem is indeed hardware-based.
Edit--just occurred to me--I should probably try a hard reset before trying any re-flashing. If I still have the same problems after a hard reset, I guess I can assume the problem is hardware-based. I forgot how to hard reset my MDA, and cannot find the manual at the moment. Would someone like to remind me how to hard reset it?
In any case, I would still be interested in hearing ROM recommendations, although I am aware that different posters will have different opinions.

Unfortunately, this kind of snide reply seems to occur on every kind of forum--people who think it more important to criticize those asking for help, rather than helping them.
Was I looking for a shortcut? Damn yes I was! Anything wrong with that? Hell NO!
I have read a lot on this forum. There are probably hundreds of threads and thousands of posts devoted to the subject of the many alternate ROMs for the HTC Wizard.
Yes, I have other things to do with my life, than spend 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, researching the different ROMs for the HTC Wizard. My whole life is not devoted to the Wizard. If that is a problem for you, so be it.
Not having time to read every ROM thread, trying to decide which might be the best for me, I described some of what I was looking for, my preferences, etc., and asked the knowledgeable people here, to perhaps summarize a little, what are a few of the best ROMs, how they compare with one another, to perhaps make suggestions for ones I might be interested in, etc.
I think that would probably be of interest to others as well as me--to see a Wizard ROM summary thread--contrasting and comparing what might be considered some of the best of these ROMs, what advantages and disadvantages one has over the other, etc. I think such a thread would be very useful, and could even be made a sticky.
Yes, I'm sure others have asked similar questions before. Is that a problem? No. Every forum has similar questions that are asked. Every time new people see the new thread, there are new contributions and point of views expressed, new insights brought to light, etc. Even if the question is similar to those asked before, there will be new answers.
So, if you get your kicks making snide comments to everyone who asks for help, go ahead and do so. That is not a very useful way to contribute to a forum, however, IMO.
HOA!!!
Grrrrr8 lecture,I'm impressed.
But when there already is a thread started for the specific purpose, there's no need to start a new thread for this.If you don't have the time to read and search, than this forum is not for you,coz this forum believes ib 'Search & Seek' and BTW! respect for others and particularly seniors,I believe.
As for giving my help to others, you are most welcome to search and read all my threads, you'll appreciate its full of help and appreciations from the members whom I have tried my best to help and solved their problems. The thing is not to criticize, but to direct to the right solution, there was nothing in it which might have offended you.
How important was your question, you can judge by the response it got in 5 days, only 2 ? you posted on 10/9/2008,that proves its importance, got my point, there was no need to post such a question ,which has been posted and answered hundreds of time, its just merely wastage of forums resources!!!

It's too bad (and more than a little ironic) that what you are doing now is exactly the same kind of NOT CONTRIBUTING to this forum in any positive way that you accuse him of, opinion or not. In fact, looking through the threads you've started, it appears you have never contributed anything .
You might feel too busy to read the posts that others took the time to write (just for people like you, I will point out), but don't expect sympathy when you get the ban-hammer for starting a flame war because you think somehow your time is more valuable than everyone else's time here.

There is a thread like this already, and zabardast_1 already gave you the link. Try to pay attention instead of just starting up your buzz saw. Again, you'll be the one that gets banned, not him.
Read the threads behind each of the ROMs. The posts detailing the bugs found will give you some idea of the stability of that ROM. You're on your own, now, since you copped an attitude. Staying friendly is the only way to get help around here, from now on.

I did not start a flame war. I started a thread, asking for opinions on the different ROMs. It was he who started to personally criticize me, not the other way around. It wasn't I who "copped an attitude".
I never said that my time is more valuable than anyone else's here. I don't think that at all, and did not imply it in the least. However, some people apparently spend many hours per week on this Wizard ROM stuff. It seems to be a major hobby with some here. That's great! But I don't have the time to get involved to that degree. As said, I don't have the time to read thousands of posts about different ROMs. So, I think it would be good for many readers, to have a summary thread about them.

I had my hd2 for 2 months and i love it. But, im getting very disappointed that it's lacking in apps and community support unlike the andriod and iphone os. I see poplur apps that are available for android and iphone but not wm. i am starting to wish i never got the hd2 and really wish i knew about the evo thats coming out soon.
on top of that i see the phone on ebay has really dropped in price to about £270 ($411)
so is it possible to put android on hd2?
Wow
Before you get blasted for making a post and not searching let me give you some advice, Search! There are a LOT of threads about Android on HD2, it's not there yet but it is being worked on. Really, type Android in the search bar and you will see all the threads asking the same thing, good luck

If you used the search functions (like most people) you would find your answer.
If you did this simple thing you would find that at this time, its not yet possible, HTC have the best group of developers on it but are having some trouble with the porting or something.

Off: I succeeded in using my HD2 as a condom yesterday! Took me ages to port every bit of information...
On: Let's assume you haven't read the forum rules, thus you wouldn't know about the built in Search function. There`s Google. Why not Google for something (such as "android on hd2")? After all, it`s much easier to type and to read than typing a long post on a board where you need an account and where you need to wait for others to answer your question...
At least he searched the price of the HD2 on ebay...

anyway its still under development and needs some time i can say its 40 % to its full

It also really surprised me to see the price of HD2 drop down so quickly. Maybe mostly because not so many people can get on well with HD2, which is the best phone I've ever bought.
Easy on the flaming guys. Im sure he understands now. For all u know, u might just drive someone away from xda with negative thoughts......where as this is one of the most helpful community.
Like yourself I'm a new HD2 owner. I can understand why you might think there's a lack of apps for our device, when devices like the iPhone have 160,000+ apps. However I've found four different GPS nav apps out there (Igo, CoPilot, TomTom and Garmin), an app to make a flashlight out of your camera LEDs, a registry editor, a voice-dialler, a metal detector, a decent file explorer, a media player etc etc etc. The question needs to be asked, how many media players / file explorers / gps apps do you need on your device? For me, one of each is more than enough. Many of the iPhone apps are just double-ups of the same functionality.
After getting my phone I spent the next week on XDA searching for apps, themes, tweaks and games, trying them out and working out what works and what doesnt.
My HD2 is now running and looking mint, and I've got more games than I know what to do with. As the others in this thread have already pointed out, you do need to take the time and use the search function.
As for support, you couldn't be more wrong - it was the emmense wealth of knowledge of XDA-developers that gave me the confidence to buy the HD2. It will take you time to find the info you're looking for in these forums, but the answers are there, and you'll end up with a superior phone to the iPhone if you're prepared to give it a chance.
Drop me an email on [email protected] if you'd like to know where to find the bits you're after.

Hi,
I am newbie on HTC HD2. It seems really good phone. I am happy to have it but I want to add some interesting apps on it to make it mine. I am not talking about wallpapers or screens. I mean other usefull apps . When I search apps section I can not see much. I belive it is new phone so not have much apps. When I read boards peoples says if I make my phone ANDROID ( I do not even know what it means) i will be able to have lots more apps. I am not good on systems so I scare I broke my phone and will not be able to fix it. For windows it is easy . I can go on market and pick what I like and phone automatic install it or I can get cab file from here and instal it. Please tell me if can run android and windows together? Or I better stay away from it? I read on board android is not developed yet and even good htc users having problems. Maybe someone assist me about it?

Ok...take a deep breath and think zen. ;-)
First of all, this is not a question you should bother developers with. They are, suprise suprise, busy developing.
Considering your experience with the hd2, my personal advice is to keep WinMo and search the forums for your cabs. You can customize about everything on your WinMo. You just need to invest some time and energy in it.
If you are stubborn like me...read further:
Yes it's possible to run Android and WinMo on your hd2. If you're new to linux/android/hd2 it'll cost you more time and energy to understand it all.
Very Important:
To install Android besides WinMo, please make sure you have read and understood this thread:

To install Android besides WinMo, please make sure you have read and understood this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
Also, make sure you read and understand this thread:

Please make sure you know what you're doing before you start using Android. It's not that you'll brick your phone, but you'll risk being flamed for asking questions which already have been asked 100 times before.
Good luck and be careful!

Hi all.
First, biggest respect and thanks to everyone for spending their time and putting their input in this source of information. I know, that my question can make some people irritated and trigger some flame and negative response. I have read silly questions like “which rom is the best” and smth and understand this... I have gone through number of threads and hundreds of posts, searched but did not find answer in questions concerning me and maybe some other people. I’m using my phone not just for fun but for business as well, so I have no time to do it and keep it as testing platform... I’m sorry for this, and I think I could help developers with donation instead of testing various roms and posting of mine experience here. So, I’m just asking for useful advice, pisstakers and people having nothing good too say, thanks but maybe u could just not flood up this thread. Ok, let’s go...
Can you tell me your opinion about the NAND rom which would suit these needs best. I'm searching for ROM with the best productivity and stability. Saying productivity I mean flawless synchronization with MS outlook contacts and calendar (necessary) and preferably tasks as well at first... And stability and battery drain, also as many features as possible working as bluetooth, tethering, email, etc, etc..
As we know synchronization with MS outlook is weakest side of android yet, although some handset manufacturers making their software to resolve this issue. This is seems not most important thing for most people here, because after searching it looks there is something like white spot on the map about his.
I have my Dell Streak on android froyio 2.2 as my first android learning thing, before I was winmo user... I really like android as better and more perspective OS comparing with dying winmo, so I would like to make my HD2 android which is my business phone more... When I reflashed Dell Streak with froyio 2.2 I lost sync ability with outlook. With help of this forum I installed Deja Office which resolved sync problems.
And now, having read many posts I think I would like to go for gingerbread version, but there is nothing mentioned about synch with ms outlook even there is said that USB SD card mounting-unmounting is not working properly... Deja Office works this way by mounting-unmounting SD volume during synch, so it may not work with gingerbread...Should I go for another one rom? Which one? btw HTC HD 2 with 512 MB (non T-Mobile)
I don’t know, give me some info please and then I will help with donation to developer which rom I will find best for me. Sorry again for trying to get it ready from you instead of testing myself every rom here, but as I said, everybody can make it’s own different input in this board.
Thanks

I agree, but no need to call anyone a retard.
In hopes to add something to this thread other than uselessness, if your looking for something simple and great on battery life then give tytungs gingerbread ROM a shot. Most Sense ROM's are not the best on battery but they aren't terrible on battery either. Anyways, good luck on finding the ROM for you.

Thank you very much motoman. This is the first at least more positive and constructive response... But mine biggest issue is the best synchronising with MS outlook. And I posted this jjust because after reading lots of posts and threads I find almost no information about this.

You sir have a great mentality. I should follow your example and go rob a bank so I can get millions of dollars.
Jokes aside.
Try a sense rom, I find they have all your professional needs built in.
Tethering will not work on any android build, for all of them you have to download a separate app for it to work.
I don't see why a gingerbread build. What siginificant advantages does it have over Froyo?
Since you have a 512 HD2, get a squashed sense rom.
Also, dude please don't under rate our devs by implying they are simply people here to make a profit. They're not gold diggers, atleast in my opinion.

I will consider this, thanks. Although I really like android freedom in apps and in generally after trying it, but if it won't get what I need out from this why not...
Next person to use the word "retard" will receive a nice ban....if you have nothing helpful to say, then don't post anything.

Yes calling someone that isn't very nice.
Edit: Hope Q&A helps you. I couldn't really tell you any one rom for ms outlook cause I don't use it but like motoman said tytungs rom might help. I think cmylxgo has great battery life Imho.
Edit 2: hyperdroidgbx might be another good rom for you to try out.
