What is the best setting. I have overclock widget. Thanks.... guys....
so there no kernels to help oc, just use setcpu tor similar apps?
on other phones u need kernels to oc. just curious if this phone i different
The default kernel won't overclock, setcpu can perflock the stock HTC Sense based kernel and allow underclocking for better battery preservation.
You can download chad's incredikernel, lou's kernels or ziggy's for Sense-based kernels that can be overclocked.
I don't know about the widget but on setcpu I have mine set to the highest with performence settings.
wao im confused know,do i need a kernel.thanks...
A lot of kernels have oc capabilities, but you still need SetCPU to tell it what speeds to run at and such. CM7 has this functionality built right into the CM Settings.
It will depend on what ROM you're using, and what kernel you're using.

will ziggys chad's incredikernel, lou's kernels or ziggy's kernels work for new sense 2.1 or 2.2?
Depending on what version they are. IDK what version the new kernels are but the sense 1 kernels are 2.6.32-17. IMO overclocking an incredible doesnt offer that much of a performance gain, it can only be bumped up by about 150-200mhz as compared to the other devices which can do 300-700mhz.

All Froyo-based ROMs should be covered by those three kernel builders. Unfortunately those also are about the only active kernel devs that are supporting Sense-based kernels, the majority are AOSP.
Has anyone thought of tweaking with the voltages on the incredible kernels. I also own a Nook Color and they thought 1.1 was the max for us until dal messed with the voltages and a few other things under the hood. If it gets us gains with running features on newer roms (sense 3.0) it might be worth exploring the possibilities.
dont forget my post please. I need more information, thanks..

When a rom says its oc...does that mean it already IS oc'd or that it CAN be oc'd? Take for instance eris lightningbolt rom. It says OC but I'm not sure if that means it already is or that it can be? Trying to figure out if the speed increase of my eris is simply due to the new rom or due to a possible oc? I have NOT installed setcpu yet.
It means it's capable... you need setCPU or Overclock Widget to increase the speed.
Could be over clocked already, but it definitely means that it can be over clocked. Ask the ROM dev in that particular thread to find out. Also, please refrain from posting general questions in the development forum in the future. Can a mod please move this thread?

it means it has a kernel capable of being overclocked as of lately no rom is allowd to be bundled with SetCPU so you won't be able to flash and Oclock it right away you must buy/download from xda the setcpu.apk but most OC'd roms come set to about 710 mhz for stability
Some kernels come custom clocked higher.
Here is the link to setcpu

CELB or Eris lightning bolt which ever you prefer to call it is overclocked to 710 by default and then can be adjusted up or down with setcpu or overclock widget.
I don't like already OC'd roms, Its like yo man, Dont touch my woman! lol jk
My apologies if this has been answered but I haven't been able to find it ...
I'm running AvaFroyo V7 ROM on my rooted EVO, and installed SetCPU. Things are definitely faster. But it appears SetCPU only allows me to UNDERCLOCK (to save battery life, etc.).
Can SetCPU *not* overclock? What am I missing here ...
Thanks in advance!,
Jon
Overclocking has to be enabled in your kernel before you can set it ine set cpu.
It will allow you to overclock if you are using a custom kernel that is capable of the higher frequencies.

Btw, what kind of clock speeds are you able to attain with those kernels?
-- Jon
Most of Kings and Netarchy's kernels can overclock to 1.26 but some CPUs become unstable at those frequencies. Mine runs real nice and safe at 1.19
Duh, my brain was on auto-pilot, didn't see the 1.19 in your previous post.

you may get an answer faster by doing a search as there are several threads with this exact same question with inputs from users already.
Calkulin's current, whatever it may be.
King's 11CFS/BFS
King's 9CFS/BFS
Netarchy 4.2.1 BFS/CFS nohavs or more aggressive
Try all 6 kernels and see which you like most.
Calk's roms are always bleeding edge, most current, and he is a real dev that makes real advances, not someone that throws some **** together in a kitchen, removes a program, adds a program and calls it special.

I'm still more or less a noob to the whole android customization, even though I tried out a lot of different roms on my saphire (MT3G). I recently upgraded to th MyTouch 4G, and immediately found a root method to install a custom rom. I tried several different roms for this device as well over the, last few weeks, and found that the ICE GLACIER 1.1.6 runs the most stable, and closest to the original. So my question is this: I have also been looking into overclock kernels as of late only to find that all the ones I try with my rom are either incompatible or cause frequent freezes, crashes, or restarts. Is there a kernel out here I have missed that will run smoothly with my rom? I have already looked trough some of the forums here and tried both versions of the faux kernel, and all the rest I have seen that aren't CM specific. Anyone can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from Iced out Glacier (MT4G) v. 1.1.6
Gorilla's OC kernel that TeamSilence put in Ice-Glacier is a very strong and stable OC kernel. if I remember correctly that kernel will go up to 1708 or 1709 if you have SetCPU.
I am using set cpu, but even the kernel that comes with the rom freezes my phone up, or causes force closes and restarts out of the blue.

If you're OCing to 1.7GHz, that may not be the kernel's fault. Every CPU is different, some can't overclock as high as others. Here's a nifty thread on the subject.
Very true, just like the MT3G-Slide mine could go well into the 900's before it would lockup but my wife's can only hit 844 any higher and it locks

Thanks for the info. I love my MT4G as is, so overclocking isn't really a big issue, after reading this article, I am begining to wander if it is even a good idea. I was only curious to find out the problem because I never had such troubles overclocking my saphire (MT3G)
Edit: have reduced settings to 1497600mhz. Going to play around a little bit and see what my best settings are. As of now, this settings have outlasted all others. Thanks to those who responded. And HAIL to the devs who spend their time creating all these roms, so noobs like myself can easily make their devices unique!¡!¡!¡!¡!

Does the kernel affect battery life given the same clock speed? What I mean is if I am using CM7 RC1 with whatever Kernel it came with... and I change to the Faux kernel and keep the same clock speed will I see diff. battery life?
Are there any kernels that are tuned for better battery life?
Thanks,
RA

I'm running on the kernel that came with Ice Glacier now, thanks to a hard crash around midnight last night. I've been set at 1497mhz since I restored. No freezes, acceptable battery temps, and blazing response time. Now I only wander if one of the kernels allow a little better fine tuning, because if I try to change this one it only has two more setting, one in the 1600s and then max, both of which cause my phone to go crazy...

I don't know for certain, but I would think it matters more if the kernel is undervolted or not. Assuming the same usage patterns and CPU clock settings/profiles, the kernel that utilizes less voltage would preserve more battery, would it not? (Anyone with experience on the subject wanna chime in?)

Hi Captivators!
Let me introduce a tool that helps to improve performance of your phone!
NEED ROOT!
Overclock can be harm to your hardware.
Use at your own risk.
I made a overclocking application for Samsung GalaxyS family.
It's designed to make overclock very easy on stock kernel and custom kernels (almost, not CM7, it has its own way)
Only needs to click 3 times to do it.
I know here is not app category, but based on kernel module.
so I chose "Development" category.
If I'm wrong, please move my thread to correct position.
Working perfectly on GalaxyS Froyo. already proved by many people.
I'm waiting Gingerbread for my phone (SHW-M110S).
App will support Gingerbread after I got it. Hey Samsung, give it to me!!!!
My wish is that all of GalaxyS users install this application on their phone... over 10 million..
But I know. It's just a dream.

Hey, who don't want to make phone faster?
You can find a free version app in Android Market.
If you like it you can also buy ultimate version to help me (think as a donation ver)
UV(under voltage) and OV(over voltage) controls are only available at Ultimate version.
Sorry for that but I believe Free version is quite enough for most of you!
@1.43 Ghz, 1.375V + ext4 = quadrant score 2250, and fried my hands
Enjoy your enhanced phone with my application!

yes this app loads a kernel module much like voodoo control plus does. it adds overclock to any kernel instantly. unfortunately for the developer most of us have a favorite overclock kernel. but this will work for adding overclock to kb1 non overclock kernels that some members prefer to use for call quality reasons, and for people that love the stability of speedmod but want to experiment with faster clock speeds

EDIT: im just curious, ive traditionally undervolted my phone to increase battery life, what would be the purpose of increasing the voltage, seems as though it would be counter productive?
Well this is interesting. A good app for anyone who remains on stock and dosent want to load a custom rom but would like a little extra horsepower. The small percentage that people here make up may or may not use it, but to the rest of the world that is on stock, this could be really nice for them.

that is a gross over simplification. i believe onix has a lower kernel hz for battery life and additional patches though i never cared to keep track of specifically what features each kernel has.
also the ulk menu on speedmod actually works on all the options including jfs unlike onix
maybe you will have better luck in the epic and fascinate sections where there is no froyo source code so they have to choose between 2.1 overclocked and 2.2
Any chance to get this on 2.3.3?

Decreasing voltage increases battery life (obviously less juice = lasts longer) but also makes your phone less stable. The inverse holds true to a point. For every phone at every cpu speed, there is a range of voltages where your processor doesn't lock up and die instantaneously. Too much voltage makes it die, too little makes it shut off.
In the range where it works, however, the lower end is better for battery life, but if it's doing something towards the upper end of the freq range, it might still die, but the upper end of the voltage spectrum is pretty much good to go.
cant overclock my cappy at all raise it to 1.2ghz without any voltage change and
it says i need the full version...
whats the point in OC app that you cant use it?
