When my phone is horizonal and/or open, I don't get the icons like that. i still get them stuck as if the phone was held the other way around.
Is there a fix for this? It's been like this since launch.
If it makes any difference, it's one from Rogers, in Canada.
Thanks,

If you look at this video, they also have horizonal, and it's not a static image. (1 minute 28 seconds).

You can use the volume keys to select the option on the recovery screen, then press the trackball button to select that option. You can do this on the G1 or myTouch (Magic).

Yep. Microsoft's 360 console was supposed to be unhackable as well. It didn't take long
we have found a way to hack any and all electronics in existance, the phone is rootable it might just need a newer mind to take a look. people get into their heads that things can only be done a certain way, there is always another way to do it. to name a few
ALL HTC PHONES
Sony PSP
PS3
Xbox 360
iPhone
mac computers
linux computers
windows computers
i don't think i need to go on, everything is hackable and can be messed with, sometimes it just takes a little more work and a different approach.

Or it could be that some people have that common knowledge? I knew it from buying a safe.
In any case, it really makes me wonder why phone companies bother with lock downs. Sure, some of the general public won't bother trying, but how much money is invested in locking us from root and then lost when a 16 year old kid cracks it?

Microshaft doesn't exactly have a strong track record when it comes to security....
Unlike Linux, which Android *IS*.
That being said, rooting ANY Android device is *easy*. Just not necessarily through the conventional back doors.
If you can read and write the chips, you can very easily make any modifications you like into the root filesystem, which can include adding an 'su' command. Only problem with this is that it generally requires a hardware approach, which is beyond the scope of the average user... who probably shouldn't be messing with root anyways.
I do, however, feel a bit of a letdown in this issue though. The unfortunate thing is that the carriers still are trying to call the shots (and generally succeeding due to popular ignorance). I would like to see this change -- there was once a time when you bought your land phone from the phone company and this is not so any more. Right now, most people are still buying their mobile phone from the phone company, even though it isn't necessary. I would definitely like to see more dealers for non-carrier-specific cell phones, and to have them show up in popular places. I would like to see these sold at places like walmart and radio shack so that you can just walk in and buy a phone with no strings attached.
There are a few reasons why I opted for an ADP1...
1) no contract,
2) no controls,
3) no carrier,
I bought it outright, its mine, and I can do what I like with it. People who are interested in the freedom of an unrestricted device should opt for this approach. ADP1 is STILL AVAILABLE, and there is not much about the new devices that improves on it.. sure I admit that having a little more ram would be nice, but the keyboard sure makes up for it. Yes, the majority of devices can be converted into an unrestricted device, but it just isn't right that you would have to hack it.

well at the last hacker convention windows vista was not hacked until many third-party apps were involved, linux was hacked long before that. i'm not saying that linux is unsecure because it is very secure in the since that you can't do much if you hack my computer. any real threat would have to have the root password and to get that you would need a keylogger

Dude, vista was hacked before it was even released.
And fyi; hacked = got root. Guessing at some user's password doesn't count. Hacking some particular server (i.e. Apache) doesn't count since it is run jailed (unless the admin is an idiot) and therefore won't let you get root. There have been a VERY FEW true root compromises for Linux, each and every one has been patched within hours (if not minutes) of it being identified, and due to the differing culture around linux, it is a matter of extreme pride to publicly identify security issues, i.e. if you legitimately hack linux, you are most likely going to take full credit for it using your REAL NAME and probably even provide a patch at the same time. Hack windoze though and you release under a fake name using a secure proxy in russia or china, otherwise MS will sue your a$$ until you die of starvation either through judgement or through legal expenses.
In Linux, you are a hero for identifying a security hole and helping to bring the whole thing closer to perfection.
In windoze, you are a criminal for pointing out the ineptitude of MS.
If T-Mobile in US starts selling iPhone 4 would you give up your HD2 and move on?
MY answer is: I would need to see a phone in live, see how it works and what's it all about and maaaaaybe - just maybe a year from now I get it instead of HD2 which I would ship back to Europe.
So what's your take on it?

How many maps do you really need
Anyone know what this link is about?

I'm unable to connect to the server...saw it in google news...
Even if it was true, current handsets wouldn't be able to make use of it, as there are too many buttons.
I was wondering... what is the problem with having more buttons? If we had less, I could have understood that it represented a problem, but if there are more... I don't see how that could bother such a high-end OS. Can`t the remaining buttons simply be mapped to do ordinary stuff? Or in the worst case, can`t they simply be rendered useless?

Thats what I thought too, but every single piece of info I can see on WinPhone 7 (including the development guides) is that there are only mappings for a particular layout of buttons.
I'm guessing these are mapped to particular ASCII codes or something, almost certainly different ones to the button codes on the HD2 at current (not sure how easy it is to change these, maybe hardware driver level?).
Here is what i do not get about the buttons. Why not leave the answer and hangup buttons out of the equasion? they serve a simple purpose. they have the 3 middle buttons for the stupid os controls.
i saw that today, i have the link http://www.officialwire.com/main.php?action=posted_news&rid=198480

Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago I noticed the bottom left of my screen would activate by itself repeatedly. This mostly seemed to happen when I was trying to type something. It carried on for a while so tonight I flashed a romkitchen rom (2.3.3) (I was on 2.2.1 before), thinking it might be a bug in the system somewhere. Well the problem is still there and I;ve discovered it's always that same corner of the screen that does it no matter what orientation I have it in. I can't even sign into the market at the moment because it makes it impossible to type and the screen ends up freezing until I press the home screen.
Is there anything this could be other than a hardware issue? I did a full factory reset etc during the flashing process.
If I need to send it back would I need to flash it back to stock? I bout my phone from O2 in the UK, where can I get the correct firmware? samfirmware has loads but how do I know which one I need?
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue. Did it ever get rained on or something? Do you use a screen protector?
You might want to edit the topic title, although it is quite funny. Read it and think a bit.

It happens at random. Sometimes it works fine. Not related to being plugged in though
I know someone that had the same issue, though it was with the Vibrant (not i9000m). He sent it to samsung, but it still has the same problem, though not as frequent. I haven't seen him in a while so I'm not sure if he ever got it resolved...

Just to eliminate all possible outside influences, take the protector off and clean the screen really well - and see if it still does it. If it does, then bring it in and try your best to be convincing

I'll see how it goes with the protector off. I think my screen is failing though as now on occassion the screen will completely freeze and I have to put it to sleep and wait a few minutes for it to start working again.

I've had the same problem. Unlocked SGS on Orange UK. The problem was on/off for a while but eventually got so bad I couldn't use the phone, removing screen protector made no difference.
I stuck an old Froyo build on and took it into carphonewarehouse, they sent it off and it was fixed in their repair centre. No problems since and that was 4 months ago.
Not sure how you would go about getting the operators rom on there but I'm sure you can mess around with Kies to get it to download the one you want.

Afaik, no. And MS says no. It might be just you pressing differently (hopefully). If not, this is a warranty issue.
Thanks for the answer, guess I'll have to live with it or something. I bought this phone off somebody and I don't have the receipt.. which still technically shouldn't matter, since this phone hasn't even been out for a year, meaning it should still be under warranty. Any idea how it would work?

Unfortunately, no, as I live in EU and I have a Focus bought in US I hope I won't have to find out
Technically, it should work. You can try and go in an AT&T store and just say you have this issue with the phone, and yes, you're the owner. See then what they ask.
