Droid X flashed to cricket - Droid X General

So I recently bought a flashed droid x but now I want to rroot it. Is that possible with out erasing the flash? Also, how can I delete the default gmail account and put mine on there without doing a factory reset?

Z4root
Is in the first thread "Noob's Guide to a Droid X"
Use Z4root,works great for rooting.
I would not do a factory reset as it will revert your Cricket settings back to Verizon.
You can use QPST Service programming to save the settings and then re-enter settings. There are a few threads that show you what the settings are.
MSL/SPC is 000000
Please do not try this if you not confident at all or able to miss using your phone for a few days in case you cannot figure it out right away.
Good luck

Clear all PST settings?

Hello,
I wanted to re-sell my VZW XV6800 now that I've upgraded to something else. But I can't figure out how to remove my telephone number and other settings from the PST information. I tried doing a hard reset (Hold both soft keys and reset) but that did not remove the existing PST data from the ##778 screen.
I don't want to send a device off with my cell phone number still programmed into it in places.
Delete them manually. That is the only way I know how.
They all got nuked the first time I flashed to a DCD ROM from the stock Verizon ROM, so I figured reflashing again might do it, but it did not clear anything this time. Guess I'll go through and clear it out manually.

Sprint from Metropcs

Ok so I flashed my phone to metropcs but after seeing that this phone needs an steady connection to use it 100% .. I switched to Sprint, so they are going to send me some crappy phone this week, then I will attempt to activate my HTC hero .. take in consideation that I use it in metropcs, will I need to change some settings? Tower ? PRL?
Thanks
Wll i need to Flash to stock?
Your best bet would be to use the RUU here on the site and restore the phone to complete stock so activating it on sprint will not be trouble.
You can try to activate it first but i doubt data etc will work with sprint if it was flashed to metro PCS
will flashing RUU would set everything to default even the settings that i changed in Qpst / ##3282#???
Just RUU it back to sprint, it should restore the prl's and everything else without problems.
Go to the sprint website and do a ESN change to your hero whenever you are ready and click on manual configuration, it'll give you your MSL. You can use that number to restore the phone back to factory defaults. ##786# I believe is the code to reset the phone to factory.
Yeah I just checked. ##786# (Menu) (reset) (msl) ok.
Ok Thanks so much...Last question what RUU should i USE? there are 2 available 1.56.651.2 and 1.29.651.1... I am thinking in 1.56 but I want to make sure.
Ok I flashed to Stock...but It still on metropcs network...How can I configure it for sprint?

reverse the steps you took to configure it for metro pcs you should have took notes on what the stock setting were right
The thing is I did not do it myself.. i took it to a store and they "flashed it"
so take it back to that store and tell them to flash it back
I might do that.. L( do you know the SID NID for Sprint? or the settings? that make a phone be in one network or another?

Droid X crashed, uh oh.

Got the Droid X to activate it on Alltel like I did very successfully with my Eris.
Installed HW virtual serial port software, created the virtual serial port, phone was detected and showing up correctly in QPST, went directly to CDMA Workshop and ripped the NV file from the phone, edited all the NV information to alltel's 3G provisioning with a HEX translator, uploaded the NV file to the phone and uploaded the Alltel PRL... all seemed well. Restarted the phone, it now shows no service. When I go to Settings, it tells me the baseband version is "unknown" and it doesnt know the ESN or anything, that isn't good. I tried reconnecting to CDMA workshop, if I try to restore original NV file, it doesn't know the SPC anymore so it doesn't allow it, SPC 000000 isn't recognized now. How can I recover the radio ? I tried restoring it (hard reset) through the settings, security menu AND the Power+home buttons way. After restoring, still no service and SPC is still incorrect, how do I get the radio back to default values ? CAn I reflash the phone? Anyone know where the factory rom is so I can do this ? Ah man, help me please :O
Other than that, I guess I'll have to have motorola take a look at it since I don't have it signed up to a verizon account, my bet is that verizon won't help me. thanks
Did a system "full reboot" help any??
No it hard resets normally and reboots to the welcome wizard, functions perfectly, but still "No Service" and "unknown" baseband in the settings...
I'm thinking I'll have to have the stock Rom file to flash my phone, hopefully this will flash the factory baseband too or maybe tomorrows update will fix my broken baseband, looks like from the information, it updates the baseband, wonder if it will update a totally dysfunctional baseband?
Yikes,.. this blows.
I don't understand why you didn't back up the rom if you were attempting something like this.
There is a Droid X update coming pretty soon, so I'm sure by that time the new rom will be available.
Well, I backed up the NV items, I figured that would be sufficient, guess not, Trial and error I suppose, but you're right.
What software do I use to back up the rom of the Droid X ? I know there is a key sequence on the Droid, what about the droid X ? The recovery screen (Power + Home) brings me to a menu allowing system recovery/wipe install update.zip from memory card, and thats it.
I have a buddy right here in town down the block that got the droid x with me, can I back the rom up off of his and flash that rom to my phone?
Help is SO appreciated...
EDIT
The system dumps that are floating around the web, is that a ROM backup ? http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/114-new-droid-x-retail-dump-straight-out-pot.html
Can I put that file in the SD card as update.zip and flash it?

why not use QXDM to modify the ESN?
Worth a shot...
You can try using the motorola troubleshooter. Its what they use to update your phone anyways and since the new update came out you might be able to install over what you did...I cant post a link because Im new but follow the instructions below and it will walk you through the update process via computer. I figure with a phone thats not working its worth a shot.
Go to Motorola's website and click the droid advert right on the left side of the screen.
Under the "Support" tab in the upper right hand corner is another tab called "Owner Support" click on that.
On the left hand side there are more tabs so this time click on "Update My Software"
It will give you a list of options, choose "Via Computer"
From here it will check your computer for their software and prompt you to download it. Its the troubleshooting software and it will ask you a few questions, its also what they use to update your software via computer so it may be capable of flashing your phone for you. Best of luck and let us know what the end result is.
I haven't tried either of these... but I'm about to start flashing a droid X to cricket and bookmarked these posts in case I mess something up. Proceed with caution as I have no first hand experience with these.
I'm still trying to get a handle on if the service programming parameters (the spc, MDN, MIN, SID, etc.) are updated as part of baseband updates, it sounds like they are since they are saying the device needs to be re-activated after applying either of these updates.
If a baseband update refreshes the service programming parameters here are the two ways I've found of updating the baseband:
Here's a link to a post for updating the baseband portion of your device (without updating the ROM):
http://alldroid.org/Default.aspx?tabid=62&g=posts&t=246
I don't know if this will work on a device that doesn't have a valid baseband prior to the update. Regardless, if your phone is bricked this may be a valid option to try.
There is also a 2.1 SPL file floating around which is the entire system image, the baseband and the rom. You will need to use rsdlite to apply this image to your phone. DO NOT APPLY THIS IF YOU ARE RUNNING FROYO.

[Q] Manual Network Settings - APN's

I am trying to find a way to write my network settings to the droid they require to APN's and they gave me the info but everytime i reset the phone I ahve to manually enter them again. I have a motorola milestone, and if you know if this can be scripted or put into a custom firmware let me know. Thank you.

got Sprint to unlock now how to change carrier options.

OK, I finally got Sprint to uicc unlock my phone yesterday. Now I need to figure out how to change carrier options., any help would be greatly appreciated. Also now that it's carrier unlocked shouldn't I be able to access the hidden menus and stuff or can I only do that after root?
No getting unlock didnt change anything. It just unlocked the uicc slot for a different sim. Have to get another sim and pop in phone and then you can set ur apns for that network.
Nothing else gets "unlocked" and is nothing near the access root gives you.
That's what I thought ugh. But I've tried to do that and can't get the APN to save.... I've tried to edit it with##debug# I have my msl also. And I also like I idiot purchased a unlocking app off eBay and all it was is hidden menu apk. You can add APN with that but still don't save. I inserted my Verizon sim card in the phone and it shows me roaming for service. I'm going to root my phone hopefully tomorrow afternoon. Once I do that the way I understand it that I'll be able to change and access more things. Sorry I'm a newbie when it comes to rooting, can do a lot with phones but some stuff is all new learning experience

Dont need to root.
If you have msl you can use cdma workshop or another efs program. Need to change ur prl to a vzw one. Then set apns.
Root will fix the issue with apn not saving as the hidden menue stuff needs root to activate the right menues.
But you should be able to swap prl to vzw one and put in sim and do *228 to activate. But rooting will make easier.
Root and flash a vzw rom and profit instantly lol
Quick question? i have the vs997 and i rooted and flashed the vs996 to utilize my Verizon sim. I am able to access and edit apn settings, lte and such work fine but are you saying i could flash a verizon rom to this vs997 so i dont have to use the vs996 rom with the debug kernal?

OK I'm want root also cause I want to tinker lol, I love messing with the different menus and stuff. I'm kinda nervous to root cause will be first one and don't want to make expensive paper weight.... But I ran into some issues the other day with trying to root but didn't know needed SD card and couple other things. But like other guy said I can flash the VZW ROM and be golden? Also will I pick up all the band's that VZW towers put out?
