OK, I finally got Sprint to uicc unlock my phone yesterday. Now I need to figure out how to change carrier options., any help would be greatly appreciated. Also now that it's carrier unlocked shouldn't I be able to access the hidden menus and stuff or can I only do that after root?
No getting unlock didnt change anything. It just unlocked the uicc slot for a different sim. Have to get another sim and pop in phone and then you can set ur apns for that network.
Nothing else gets "unlocked" and is nothing near the access root gives you.
That's what I thought ugh. But I've tried to do that and can't get the APN to save.... I've tried to edit it with##debug# I have my msl also. And I also like I idiot purchased a unlocking app off eBay and all it was is hidden menu apk. You can add APN with that but still don't save. I inserted my Verizon sim card in the phone and it shows me roaming for service. I'm going to root my phone hopefully tomorrow afternoon. Once I do that the way I understand it that I'll be able to change and access more things. Sorry I'm a newbie when it comes to rooting, can do a lot with phones but some stuff is all new learning experience

Dont need to root.
If you have msl you can use cdma workshop or another efs program. Need to change ur prl to a vzw one. Then set apns.
Root will fix the issue with apn not saving as the hidden menue stuff needs root to activate the right menues.
But you should be able to swap prl to vzw one and put in sim and do *228 to activate. But rooting will make easier.
Root and flash a vzw rom and profit instantly lol
Quick question? i have the vs997 and i rooted and flashed the vs996 to utilize my Verizon sim. I am able to access and edit apn settings, lte and such work fine but are you saying i could flash a verizon rom to this vs997 so i dont have to use the vs996 rom with the debug kernal?

But I ran into some issues the other day with trying to root but didn't know needed SD card and couple other things. But like other guy said I can flash the VZW ROM and be golden? Also will I pick up all the band's that VZW towers put out?

I have a galaxy S5 on AT&T that I'm trying to use a straight talk sim in. (Att towers) whenever a sim is inserted into the phone I get "Sim not allowed mm#3". I used a reputable service (cell unlocker) to unlock the device. The IMEI comes up clean as well. I've also changed the APN settings, but it won't connect. I'm trying to port from a galaxy s3.
I would also like to quickly add that the t mobile straight talk sim works just fine, but using that is not an option as the service is atrocious.
Another thing, the ATT sim works in a galaxy S4 with no issues. They are both sims for straight talk. Any help is really appreciated, this is baffling me.
Just went into the service menu with *#0011# and in the debug menu i can't actually see a MM reject cause. CARD_ERROR: Unknown and PERSO_FEATURE: UNSUPPORTED are the only relevent info i see here. The phone has been unlocked, is there a way to flash the service menu with ODIN and reset it all to stock? I know this won't lose the unlock, so in the off chance that I did accidentally click on something in there before will the tar.md5 file fix this? I read a post where user sanquante said he had to flash the PDA.MD5 file and it fixed it...I'm assuming he meant the tar.md5? Thanks for ANYONE willing to help. I really could use it.

I spent a couple of days trying to find a solution for this, but I cannot. So I hope somebody can help.
My phone is rooted an unlocked. It was once a Sprint phone. I have my own MSL code.
Many forums advice that you enter ##DATA# and tweak
APN2LTE internet and APN2 EHRPD and write default, mms, dun.
The problem is that my DATA screen doesn't show APN2LTE internet and APN2 EHRPD
All I see is APN.
When I change the APN TYPE to default, mms, dun nothing happens on reboot.
Another popular advice is that you should edit the build.prop and add
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
But that fails too.
It's embarrassing that I have a rooted and unlocked phone, but I can not use my phone as a hotspot. I have tried a few apps as well. They fail.
The hotspot option never appears on my Settings.
Does anybody have a solution?

When you say unlocked are you saying that it has the U firmware installed? I believe the U firmware allows hotspot natively.
U firmware
Thank you for replying come up but I do not know what U firmware is. I assume it's a generic firmware for the S7.
My phone was a Sprint phone. It has the model number SM-G935P.
I had a professional root and unlock it. It had the hotspot feature available and I used it. However, about a month later, the phone got into a boot loop, so I had to wipe the phone and restore it. In the process of doing that, the phone lost rooting (but it remained unlocked). I restored the root myself, but was unable to restore the hotspot feature.
I would rather not install another firmware. I am in Africa, and downloading two gigabytes is a real pain. Moreover, I'm worried that it won't work on my S7. Since my phone is rooted and unlocked, it seems that it should not be that hard to make the hotspot feature available, especially since it was available earlier with the same firmware that I used to have. Ideas?

Well if you don't want to go with downloading the firmware then the easiest would be using the app FoxFi. But I believe that if you download and flash the U firmware that it will stay, even after a factory reset. But it's up to you.
Foxfi
Thank you for your advice. I tried the foxfi app and it did not work. Although I could see the network that it creates and apparently connect to it, it would not issue an IP address. So ultimately my other devices could not connect at all.
I really don't want to install a new firmware. I'm worried that it will brick the phone. Are you sure that is compatible with my model of the S7? Where would I obtain the U firmware?
I'm just surprised and a bit stunned that there's not a relatively easy way to reveal the hotspot feature when the phone is rooted and unlocked. I would think that with all the bright developers on this forum, there would be a straightforward solution.
I appreciate your help.

As long as you have the US's Sprint Galaxy with the snapdragon processor then you can flash the U firmware with no problem. Look in the Sprint section for directions, you'll even get updates directly from Samsung and not Sprint anymore. And I know there is a way for Verizon when rooted to get hotspot to work but not sure if it would be the same for Sprint. If that's what you're going for then check the Sprint forums for that as well.
According to this....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s7/help/bloat-free-firmware-930u-tried-t3428974
It only qorks with 930 models. Mine is SM-G935P.
That same thread says " You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. "
So I'm still stuck.
I just don't understand why there isn't a simple way to turn on this feature when the phone is rooted.

Are you sure it's rooted? You said you did a factory reset, so unless you rooted it again then you have lost root. And you were looking at the wrong forum, you need to look on the Sprint S7 Edge forum (S7 is the G930 and S7 Edge is the G935) for what you need to do.
you are right. When I reset it, I lost the root. It remained unlocked, for some reason.
However, I was able to root it again by myself. The only thing that I lost was the hotspot.
I'll try another forum here. Thanks!
Phone Information
Phone Number: Last owner shows up, want this cleared

PROBLEM: A sprint V20 was brought to me to have the carrier swapped from [Sprint] to [Cricket]. So far sounds easy right? Read below...
Please Review the following of my step by step :
ESN IS LISTED AS CLEAR ON SWAPPA, please note that means this device "should" not have issues (first thing I checked)
Under APN settings there is no way to +add APN as there is with every other phone I have touched. Is this because it was a lease?
I considered perhaps rooting the phone, throwing on a custom ROM, and therefore hopefully having that added. Looks like bootloader is locked.
Of course, I am 1 security patch too late, DIRTYSANTA will NOT work on my firmware.
Searched everywhere, seems as though you CAN NOT roll this back.
Next I looked at using Chimera Tool to roll back the firmware. I cannot seem to find a ZV5 firmware file.
Next I looked at using chimera for IMEI repair. I figured if I change the IMEI just long enough to modify the APN settings then revert it back, I would be golden. Chimera gave me an error of not having access to the ports. I tried to dial in the following codes to enable port check but none have access to the "hidden menu". 277634#*#, 3845#*997#, *#546368#*997#. I tried to factory reset the phone, no luck.
I was able to use ##DIAG# (##3424#) and enable DIAGNOSTIC mode, yet this seemed to do nothing about ports.
I was able to enter ##DEBUG (##33284#) but there is no ability to ediit in here. Although at one point in time I was at a screen asking for an SVC code, no idea how to get back there though.
Tried to do a "fix" on Chimera, which is the same as refurbish on LG Up (I need the phone in factory condition), but apparently this device does not support refurbish mode. So flashing software is not wiping anything.
I cant seem to boot it into recovery, for god knows why.
QUESTIONS I HAVE
How do I completely wipe the phone of all user data?
How do I open these ports since the codes provided bring up no menu?
Since sprint is the only one recognizing the bad ESN, is this device able to even swap carriers?
What reason would APN not have an ability to edit or modify?
What additional tactics can I use to get my goal accomplished?
Hopefully we can brainstorm together
Please refer to this thread, it should work and do what you need to withthat apk. I belive its under IOT menu then under lte and put it in lab mode and turn on all the bands plus adding APN .. Im not to sure but ask the OP im sure he is way more helpful... asfar as adding the apn without this you need root to be able to do this and for nonroot i believe you must use ADb commands to tgecdevice and add them from there. there is threads oithere....

if the esn is now listed as unpaid, or lost /stolen cricket will not be able to add the esn to their system either. its a nation wide list that blacklist's the device.
Unfortunately changing the apns etc wont fix this.
ZV6 currently does not have a way to be rolled back, so there is 0 root/custom options.
APNS have been blocked by sprint for some time now and using some root methods they can be unlocked, in your case you wont be able to access them due to being unable to root.
Tools like CDMA WORKSHOP, QPST, QXDMA, etc may be able to write the apns and such you would need, if you could get the msl for the device, but if it is no longer active, and the device has a "bad esn" then you wont be getting that from the carrier. I dont believe youll be able to access the nv items etc without it and probably not going to be easy to locate the msl.
##diag# is how youll talk to the device on cdma workshop etc, youll need to go to your installed devices and change its com port to a port thats free and remember the port as the tools need you to select that port, but again they wont work for you without the msl anyways.
so in a nutshell, it looks like your best option is to sell the phone as parts only, or if recently purchased on swappa and it was listed good esn and its not then file a report at-least to make swappa aware.

Sent from my HTC 0PJA2 using XDA Labs
Hello readers and devs,
TL;DR
Debranded a Sprint LG G6 --> Factory & Hard Reset phone --> SIM card not being read.
-----
Need help getting my phone back on MetroPCS network after a debrand. I will try to be a thorough as I can for SEO robots and to explain as best I can what I did and what I noticed changing.
!!! action --> I debranded (unbranded, sic) my Sprint LG G6 993 phone using the code provided in the forums, hoping for the best.
I noticed the following changed after debranding:
APNs were locked (not able to create new or edit, however the MetroPCS APN was still there)
Sprint logo during boot gone
WiFi Calling option gone (was not working on MetroPCS network anyway)
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options missing; set to LTE/CDMA
the cellular network connection to MetroPCS was not functioning properly
SIM card error when a phone call was made, no texting either
So, I naturally read through the forums to try to get the phone working properly again on my network. I read the topic Sprint LG G6 (LS993) Dial Codes.
!!! action --> I used the code ##72786# to "Reset provisioning and makes phone reactivate".
After that, I noticed that the MetroPCS APN was removed. APNs still not editable. At this point after reading some more on the forum I decided that I needed to get the phones MSL code, go into the service menu and edit the APNs from there. However, after getting the MSL and going into the service menu area, the APN area would still not allow me to edit the fields.
I went to MetroPCS to see if they could put a new sim card in the phone, hell for all I knew maybe my sim card was bad, remember when I try to make a call I get a SIM card error message. MetroPCS guy tries some things, calls up a service person on the phone, says nothing is wrong with the sim. Tells me to come back in 30 min. I go over to Sprint, give them the phone and tell them what is happening. They say the phone IS unlocked. Then a sales rep tells me that debranding the phone means that it is no longer a Sprint phone and they will not touch the phone. I ask nicely for a tech supervisor. Sprint supervisor says that I should try to Factory Reset the phone. I go home, backup the phone and do a factory reset.
!!! action --> Factory Reset the phone.
Changes:
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options appear again; set to Automatic
Still unable to add or edit APNs (the APN area options are all greyed out).
!!! action --> I take out the SIM card and put it into my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy On5) thinking well i need a working phone.
I get an error, On5 is not connecting to the network, needs to be activated.
!!! action --> I take out the sim card and put it back into the LG G6.
Changes:
Invalid SIM card error (phone does not detect the sim card)
The SIM card is not being detected by the phone.
I read the forums some more and discovered a post that referenced a LG G6 that was debranded and to get it working again the owner had to buy a Sprint Prepaid activation SIM to re-provision the phone to get it working again on his alternative network.
I downloaded a SIM Card reader and the LG G6 doesnt give me any information on the sim card. If I put the SIM card into my On5 phone and use the SIM Card reader app I can see that my SIM card is okay and all data is displayed properly for the SIM.
I am not really sure what to do, but try to get a Sprint SIM card and put it in to try to reprovision the phone to Sprint and then move it back over to MetroPCS.
Please help what should I do now to get the phone back on MetroPCS?
Thanks,
Trumpet

Debranding?
The boot loader is locked so how can you modify anything on the phone?
First I would kdz back to stock.
That is install the version of software unaltered that should have come with the phone.
I'll leave it up to you to search in the QA section.
Once that is done, confirm the phone is unlocked.
You should need to do nothing more than to drop in the Metro SIM to have it work.
If the phone is not unlocked you will get "invalid SIM" messages.

Firstly, thank you for the read and reply. I was able to debrand the phone utilizing a dial code found in this thread:
sprint-lg-g6-ls993-dial-codes
The thread states:
"##27263# (##BRAND#) - Removes any carrier branding and redetects the carrier based on (NV registry/RUIM/SIM?).
Note: Useful if flashing to Boost Mobile or similar carrier."
After debranding the APN area became un-editable.

I need to confirm that the phone is unlocked. I did have a conversation with Sprint technician that said it came up unlocked in their system. It could be possible (although I don not know for sure) that the phone's hardware/software is locked and yet Sprint cell network has the phone unlocked in their system. Maybe I need to purchase an unlock service for the phone?
Have you tried this thread? https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g6/help/mobile-gsm-data-issues-unlock-t3625705

same problem
i have the same problem but i select de uicc unlock and works my mexico sim but just only voice calls and text. apn still greyed out and says otasn on apn settings grayed out too. any solution for this ?
Try this:
Dial 5689#*993# ; go to NAOT + NAO Test + NAO CARRIER (Select NONE).
After that you will be able to edit/add APNs
So I have been using MetroPCS on my Moto G5 Plus since I got it. Well today I went and activated my device with the Sprint network... It wasn't working when I left the store, and I told the rep how it was modified (using RessurectionRemix 5.8.4 Final), that I would work on setting it up.
Well, so far no success in activating it... Have tried changing network mode to CDMA/LTE and messing around with dialer codes, still can't get anything besides "emergency calls only."
Anyone have experienced getting this phone activated with Sprint?
Note: they did tell me they didn't have the exact, or "recommended," SIM card for my device, and that it was a secondary option they used in the system(?).

I am using that SIM, got it working when I reflashed stock. Did not work again when I restored RR, at least fully, as I was able to get data to work minus SMS/calls.
I'm on Sprint. No issues with any Roms.
You need to be on a stock build for the initial setup, because the custom roms remove all of the PRL stuff. Once it is setup once, flash whatever you want.

That's really odd. I don't have that problem...
Make sure you have APNs on the custom rom. I saw a problem a while back that the custom rom didn't keep the APN for some reason, and I had to put it in manually. Different device, but same problem.

Can you tell me what your APN info is? I have data and calling working now, but no LTE option (see screenshot)
I have mine set to global.
I had this same issue with my s6, and I ended up having to factory reset the phone, and redoing the PRL update, and the option finally came back.
Just to follow up, I was able to get full LTE and calls to work by flashing stock ROM, updating PRL, and by then it was provisioned on the Sprint network.
As it stands now, if I reinsert my MetroPCS sim card, it is provisioned for MetroPCS no problem, but I do have to reflash stock again each time I want to provision for Sprint.
So thats how I am going to run things for now, by making backups and getting it provisioned using stock before restoring.
this worked for me

theres an ap on the play store called apn backup and restore. install it on stock rom . b4 using it u need to go in system/apps and move the apk to system/priv/apps once moved changed permissions to r-w-r-r. after that a quick reboot and open app change setting to disable ics check and do a backup . once finished do the same thing on new rom and mine works flawlessly. im on boost which is also on sprint network. good luck hope this helps
