i'm still on 2.2 so i'm wondering what new update i should update to and how i can do so?
cm7 +1
With how easy it is install with rom manager and how its official now, best rom out now!!
great batter life and very stable except for no gps
Thanks if that 2.3.4? us it worth it over 2.2

very worth it!!! i use as my daily driver but no gps
I suppose if you can live without GPS it's a good upgrade. I'm in the category of folks who need the GPS in the phone so I'm patiently waiting for the Devs to fix the GPS or find our Gingerleak... For now I'm using Trigger 3.2 which I believe is 2.2. 2.2.1 leaks seem to have issues with my bluetooth devices.
cm7 is totally awesome if u can live without gps. i don't really need gps so this rom is awesome for me.
To the OP - just be aware that CM7 is stock android build and dont have TouchWiz which is Samsung's custom user interface. If you like TouchWiz elements like Samsung's version of clock, calendar, music and video player, widgets like feeds & updates, daily breifing etc you may want to wait for the official GB leak (who knows when). Also CM7 does not support hardware decoding for certain video formats unlike Samsung ROMs. So you need video players that do software decoding and possibly slower performance.
yeah, if you don't need gps, then a 2.3 rom is by far the way to go. after my first run on cm7 i went back to 2.2 and 2.2.1 roms and i couldn't pinpoint what it was/is but i was just overall dissatisfied with the performance. even with oc kernels.
now i'm back on cm7 and was running an oc kernel at 1.2 and 1.3ghz, but am now running the stock kernel. i won't go back again. but i would rather have 2.3 than gps.

I keep switching alot too. Switching between biwinning, CM7, and simplyhoney 2.3.3
I love some of the samsung elements such as some of the modes in camera such as night shot, continuous shots, etc. So I am sticking to simply honey for now minus the GPS of course. I just really hate to mute unmute on CM7. It's minor but it's annoying for me.

I'm sure lots of you guys have come across these few roms and to be exactly, they are actually not much difference from each others as you can see in the release date..e.g JPK's build date just right after JPJ's..changes are minor, maybe some bug fixes.
Well the thing is..if any of you have tried any of these rom..would you provide any info regard these roms? how it perform? etc etc..battery life, smoothness in app drawer scrolling, gallery bug, or even the heat issue when connected to wifi, what is it so promising that convincing you flash from (JS5 to JS7 or 8 lets say?)I mean..just share..just share what you thought about these rom, when it is stock of course lol.
I see lots of people still asking about the gallery bug in almost every new rom's thread, why don we share it out here?like..the bug exits in which or which rom and doesnt exists in which or which rom.
and oh most importantly..it would be the BEST if you could provide info like..what are the changes from the previous rom to the latest rom.I know how difficult this is cos' samsung never really provide the changelog for each rom..at least some of your user experience please?
I would like to choose from the options you gave, but for me the best stock ROM so far is XWJVK (Gingerbread 2.3.3). Has best smoothness so far, no lag or black screens and I haven't encountered any issues yet. I can't really.say anything about the battery life yet as I haven't recalibrated my battery yet, but so far XWJVK is the best for me!

I must agree. Battery life is also unbelievable. None of earlier roms i tried haven't come this close to smoothness and battery life, well maybe JPE modem was close at battery life, but JVK got better reception and 3g speed.

Definitely JVK, best battery life and smoothness so far. Can't wait for the final release of gingerbread, it'll be awesome.

JPJ/JPK are my preference now because of the ability to use the speedmod kernel which adds the lower brightness and crisper display. Both a must for me. The only downside is the notification drawer isn't super smooth. Otherwise just as fast as JVK, IMHO.

So I have been using the End of days rom but it seems to have many lags such as gps, wireless tethering... Does anybody anybody know of a fully working rom that is fast, and stable??? It can be customized as well... But my main essentials are: 4G, Wireless tethering, and GPS
Try CM7.

If u have the GPS problem its an easy fix.

Koni's Elite 3 is fully functional. There's Nothing that doesn't work. And it's fast. It's been my daily since it was released last month
MikFroyo works flawlessly.
I have been using Deck's Rom which is a stock gingerbread/cyanogen mod which i love a few quirks but none of the main features.
if gingerbread isn't a big issue id say try out some non sense froyo roms (i use launcher pro mostly anyways) and they always seem snappy.
always the usuals like myns, fresh, and miks sense roms.
Trying out virus' sense 3.0 rom for the past few days and its worth the bugs for me...
hope it helps if anything just try one
I'm currently on Deck's 1.0. It's a 2.3.3 based rom and haven't had any problems with it thus far.
I was previously on Mikfroyo 4.62, which is an odexed 2.2 based rom that runs real smooth. It's pretty fast compared to a lot of the roms out, everything works on it and you can find many mods and themes for it to customize it.
As someone else stated, CM7's latest stable, 7.0.3.1, has also worked without any problems. Personally, I didn't have any issues with the GPS as others have stated, but there is also a quick fix for it if you do come across it.
Calkulin's Evio 2 v1.8
stable, fast as hell, battery saver, love it!!!
Didnt even read the OP lol but just posting based on the title. If you dont live in a 4G area, I highly recommend MIUI as its buttery smooth and beautiful, if 4G is a must, I recommend a version of the leaked gingerbread evo rom unless you have the brightness bug.
I would have to not recommend miui... its not 100% yet. While amazing, i would wait a couple weeks. pretty much any 2.2 rom is a good bet.
Thanks to all but the gps fix is not easy... I dont understand the msl reader thing... Also, I will look into the deck rom! But I definitely need the gps, 4g and wireless tethering work

Hi all,
i use both, jumping from Neutrino to DarkSide & vice-versa via Nand-BackUp (and trying also others).
Neutrino is so smooth, fast and battery +/- the same as DarkSide.
Anyway i've found the DarkSide surprisingly similar about performance. Then mind that if you like to use WebTop or LapDock ROMs based on CM7 as Neutrino haven't these features.
I like Neutrino but it is more like pre-beta stage to me. It takes too much tweaking to get it to act normal. Currently on darkside 2.8 using landscape hdmi support

I always keep coming back to DarkSide 4.2 Lite
It's been pretty stable, fast and has all the bells and whistles I need (specially Webtop and Fingerprint Scanner).
I'm hoping that some day I could stick with MIUI once it matures enough, I'm willing to let go my Webtop as long as I can use HDMI Landscape Mirror with my Lapdock.

The Darkside, the best based motoblur. Neutrino, the best ROM. Neutrino is smooth, CM7 based with MIUI camera.
Just flashed neutrino 1.4 some time back. I think the battery is draining rather fast. But i'll let it stick for another week before I go back to Darkside. Motoblur still has a lot of my contacts which won't show up when I install any of the cm7 based roms .
Between Darkside and cm7 I feel Darkside had rather significantly battery life. However, the customizability of cm7 may be worth the sacrifice. To each his own, pick your favorite.

Hi I have been running neutrino 1.4s ee for week prior to that cm 7.1. So I'm really thinking about installing cm7 as I'm tired of the sad battery life on the MT4G, however, I'm finding it somewhat difficult to weigh the other pros and cons of switching from stock. There are plenty of threads and videos on how to do this, and plenty that talk about speed, but that doesn't really help answer my questions about functionality unfortunately.
Here's the thing: There are certain things in the stock rom that I don't want to lose in the process and I can't seem to figure out what I will gain and lose by switching.
Here's what I know so far about switching:
- I will have a longer battery life.
- I will lose the genius button functionality, but I can install that separately, so no big deal. I use this for texting handsfree while driving - just connect an audio cable to my stereo.
- The bloat is gone.
Here's what I can't figure out:
- How does the homescreen function without sense? Does it look the same? Do I maintain the built in widget sets?
- Do I lose the quick settings option from the status bar?
- Will my phone still wake using the trackpad?
- Will all the major abilities and apps function normally? Specifically messaging, Google browser, long press shortcuts (ie send link to: X using Y app), alarms, camera, GPS?
Opinions, advice?

I suggest to move to one of the new non-T-Mobile Sense versions. Sense 3 or 3.5.
You'll retain the functionality that you want, gain some new one, most likely gain battery life, and won't lose the good sides of Sense that you're used to (widgets etc).
In the worst case, it's just a simple trial and error process - you can try different ROMs, and if you decide that stock suited you better than everything - you'll be able to install it, and probably even tweaked and customizable version of it.
I didn't know that there was such a thing. I don't mind losing the ”prettiness” of sense, I just need the functionality to be there.
Any rom names off the top of your head that I can look for?

Here's what I can't figure out:
- How does the homescreen function without sense? I don't even get this question. Does it look the same? Different types of Android look different from one another. Sense has its look. TouchWiz has its. Vanilla Android has its. Do I maintain the built in widget sets? If you go with another Sense ROM, then yes, you will most likely have more sense most ROM here now are 3.0 or 3.5.
- Do I lose the quick settings option from the status bar? In most of the aftermarket ROMs, you will gain more quick settings. Read about the ROMs offered here.
- Will my phone still wake using the trackpad? Most of the ROMs have incorporated this into the build.
- Will all the major abilities and apps function normally? Apps? Yes. Abilities? Depends on the ROM. Some have a few bugs, others don't. Camera seems to be a big issues on this aftermarket sense ROMs, but there's usually a fix somewhere in the thread for that ROM. Specifically messaging, Google browser, long press shortcuts (ie send link to: X using Y app), alarms, camera, GPS?
Opinions, advice? After market ROMs are smoother than stock ROMs and obviously have better battery life as you know. They have much more that you can customize depending on the ROM. After market ROMs are ALWAYS better than stock. So, have fun choosing. Personally, I'm on Core Droid.

Whatever one you use that meets your expectations. There are people here that will run ICS without issues, but state they have issues with Jelly Bean or Gingerbread. It is all a matter of what works for you.
That being said, CM7 based ROMs are your best bet. They are the most developed and mature for the device.

If you find Andromadus Mimicry and CM7.2 too slow, than I’m afraid you need a new phone
Minicry might not be 100% stable, but it is pretty close. I think the ICS (or JB) would not be significantly faster even with official HTC kernel (without hacks).
You can overclock your phone and try different governors. This way you can improve the “smoothness” at a cost of battery life. Also be sure you are running ext4 filesystem. And a fast SD card may help too, check if it is at least class 8.
Mimicry flies for me at 1.5ghz
Andromadus test builds with JellyBean are the fastest of all I've tested so far (cm7.*, cm9.*, MIUI, stock sense ROMs etc.). There are some bugs however (in latest build - #71 - for example camera stopped working), but speed, smoothness, and all JB-related-features of this ROM are really outstanding. I believe, that all annoying bugs will be smashed really soon and my G2 will last until new nexus comes out.

Both of them tend to have some VERY slow slowdown periods, where I have to take out the battery, just to get It responsive.
When I try to overclock it, anything higher than about 1209 (with smartass governor) gives me a bootloop.

If there is much improvements, I rather just stay with my current build try not fix something that isn't (completely) broken. Is there a good way to migrate current apps over to the new rom? I'm currently running some crack apps that may not be available anymore.

Sense beyond 2.1/3.5(gingerbread) generally speaking is too much bloat for desirez/g2, sense 4.0A would be fine cept its been worsen and slowed down with the 3.0 kernel for sake of a working camera. The full sense 4.0 they took the kernel from is slow to the point of practically unusable on our devices.

Jelly bean still has a bit of work to put into, but there are plenty of fast ICS roms (non-sense) out there with "functional" camera app (post-gb its mainly the camera people complain about)
I've found for me, ICS to be quicker/smoother than stock or CM7.2.
Regarding apps (while I don't condone piracy) titanium backup would be the solution, assuming said apps are compatible with ICS.

PS: "CM9" by Jerl is not CM9 Official (ie: it didn't come from the cyanogenmod people), it's just bout the same (if not worse in my opinion) than Mimicry which is based off Andromadus which is based off Cyanogenmod 9's source. Though if you do try Jerl's port of it, I strongly advise you not to use the 3.0 kernel, too many problems with it and he apparently didn't bother testing it before releasing it (or least didn't bother to tell people the risk).
Far as google account syncing, it depends on whether or not you made sure to flash google apps afterwards, and if you accidently booted prior to flashing it, then you need to make sure to remove all your accounts on the phone then re-add them as it says in the OP of that thread.
