I know this is probably ancient news for most people but I just found out I can watch all the movies I want on Amazon for free. You have to have a Amazon prime account though. Just as good as netflix I think.
No charge? In any ways?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
No charge if you have Amazon prime accoun which is 79$ a year.
Cheaper than netflix.
What kind of movies does Amazon have?
$80 year and can watch as much as you want?
ETA: Ok I found it and looked. Pretty much the same stuff Netflix has.
Do you knowif it works with a rooted Xoom? Google rentals don't seem to work (drm issue?).
youd probably want tocheck out the movies they have. So far the ones I've seen are alot like what they have on Netflix. They have a lot. And the $80 also gets you 2 day shipping free and next day for $4 when you buy stuff . that's the best thing about prime because I'm always ordering things from Amazon and don't like waiting a week to get it. As far as rooted xooms it should work because its just streaming the movie. The video quality is pretty good I was watching a HD Yellowstone movie that looked awesome.
Netflix is cool though, like the original. I don't think its cool when big company's come in and because they have more sources to draw from and offer a catch like cheaper shipping. Netflix is trying too, scoring Mirimax recently.
Not that the deal on amazon is bad, its just a shame.

yeah I love Netflix. Have it on 4 devices works grate on my my Samsung vibrant. I just thought I'd let people know there is a way to watch movies on there xoom if there not going to make Netflix for xoom. Don't know ifits true but I read somewhere the the Netflix app is just for snapdragon devices. Hard telling when orif they'll make it for xoom. Like G voice.

This is the Epic 4G's update to enable Media Hub on their device.
It seems like its working on the Vibrant.
sweet.. just download it and installed.. it works really great..
How much are rentals?
Pricing sucks for Media Hub. It won't catch on unless it becomes competitive with that of iTunes or Amazon even it is the only means to buy/rent movies and TV shows. Why pay 2.99 for South Park episodes when I can download them for free and put them on my phone? Rentals are 2.99 and only available for some movies and the purchase price for movies are 9.99. I haven't seen any rental options for TV shows.
Bought a TV show it wont even play

Exactly, I was looking forward to this until I saw the pricing
Still says Coming Soon on mine.
What a huge huge disappointment! The movies are from like the 90s (clueless? Really?) And they want me to buy it for $10??????? Geez

yeah. shows should be 1 buck and movies 5 at the most. why would i want a $10 movie on my phone when i have about 500-700 Xvid/divx moveis on my comp for free
Installed ok but I agree, they should have more content. It's a big yawn right now.

Besides, I can "rent" for $1 down the street. Why would I pay $3 from my phone.
For crying out loud. Media Hub isn't even officially out yet and you guys are already complaining. How about you wait for it to be officially out, then complain? Then again, half of the people on this site are impatient.

It is officially out since they released the OTA Sprint Epic update with working Media Hub app.
More content providers will be on board in the future. ABC is the next provider to jump on board.

Important part: "down the street".
Some people are not as studious as you.
Yeah, its totally unreasonable for anyone to charge for a legal download of a product. Especially since you have so much illegal content already on your computer! Samsung should download all their shows from bit torrent, that way they could give them to everyone for free!
To stay relevant to this post, I agree that the prices are much too high. 99 cent shows would be perfectly reasonable.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if any of you knew of a program or way to watch tv shows on the vibrant. I'm wantin to watch season one and two of the tv series Castle
Any thoughts?
The easiest method would be to buy the DVDs and rip them using Handbrake.
Try TV.com from the apparently market and it's free
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I thought tv.com only showed clips and you have to pay for the full show
No. TV.com is completely free, but thus the selection is limited. There are some decent CBS shows on it - I watched the pilot of the new Hawaii Five-0 on it.
Handbrake doesn't let you rip encrypted DVDs, so it's usless for you.
With as much TV as I watch while working, I got JetFlix. I went and dropped the $50 bucks for the year. Quality is alright... but I mostly listen to TV as I work. Old habit I picked up on when I worked from home.
It has tons of shows. It is always updating. and you can download them to watch when there is no wifi or 3g.
that's my 2 cents.
Wait for froyo then you can watch tv shows on hulu
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Bitbop. its 9.99 a month but you get to watch an ass load of shows
Best investment I've ever made... SLINGBOX !!... it was 300 bucks for the Pro_HD but you get to watch everything you watch at home, Live, every channel, free... just need high speed internet at home.. very easy setup, and awesome quality and you can change channels and everything. It's like being at home !!
You have plenty of options but between justin.tv and atdhe.net I think you're all covered
For some reason, after reading the many negative posts about the Xoom, I now want to cancel my order that I got with the 25% off coupon.
Things that is the deal breaker for me is the following:
1. Cannot play 720p .mkv videos
2. Mediocre screen/display
I went to Best Buy and saw the Samsung Galaxy Tab and just love the brightness of the SGT. It is so vibrant.
Also, reading the posts about the SGT indicates that it can handle 720p and even 1080p flawlessly. It can also be replaced with faster ROM to make the SGT even better.
So I am thinking of cancelling the Xoom order from Motorola with the 25% off coupon and just get the Galaxy Tab instead.
Anyone has the same feeling?
....or I can just keep the order and not open it once I have it and sell it for $750 on Craigslist. This would cause a little bit of a hassle though.
Heck no! I'm keeping mine!
If you don't want to keep it, you should sell it on Ebay or something. You can make a profit if you sell it for under $800. [ninja'd]
Even if they don't want it, why would they ever cancel their order? Even if they have no intent to use the device, they basically have $150 free on the way to their house when they sell it. Even if they sell it for $700 just to get it off their hands they just made $100. lol.
And good god why would you ever buy the Galaxy Tab, with several new Honeycomb tablets coming in the following weeks.
Is this a joke? It has to be. A galaxy tab over the xoom? Lol
It will play mkv files once the software gets fixed I'm sure.

People with issues are the ones who speak the loudest. I'm not worried at all about isolated incidents. As a launch G1, N1, and now Xoom (but not yet received) user it comes with the territory.
If I were worried about a lack of apps, bugs, or flash at launch etc. I would have trashed my G1 right away. I remember the android 1.0 days when I had to wait a month before the market was live. Even then, there was only a few dozen apps available.
I'm treating 3.0 the same way as 1.0. Full of potential. Just have to have faith after an update or two it will be amazing.
Xoom to Galaxy Tab...WUT?
The Galaxy Tab is good but its not in the same league as the Xoom. The screen isn't that bad, its bright and extremely responsive. Samsung will probably always have the lead in screen technology but it isn't as bad as you think. Once the Xoom gets an update it will not only handle 720p video but 1080p as well. Getting the 25% off this thing makes it a no brainer bye.

Typing this from my week old Samsung Galaxy Tab. I already have a large tablet device (ipad) but needed something portable, so the Xoom is out of the question especially after I picked it up and realized it's pretty much a landscape device.
The Galaxy tab is a great device and trust me 7 inches is the sweet spot if you actually want it to leave the house on a regular basis (other than vacations). Personally, if you care about having the latest OS, I would wait for the HTC flyer. If you don't care about portability, I would just wait to see reviews and releases on the other Honeycomb devices.
If you don't care about the latest OS, I would highly recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab. I haven't touched my ipad in a week.
Just sell the Xoom on Craigslist and make a nice little profit.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA Premium App
There is no way I would even touch a galaxy tab after using a Xoom. 2.2 was not meant for tablets and the processor is so slow.. even after I developed a kernel to overclock it.
If you would like a cheap sprint version.. mine is on ebay for $350 right now..
seems to be very limited. It may be locked.to amazon prime or some.software like ipad is to.itunes.
And.it says it cannot connect.via adhoc wifi so no.tethering on a phone. So can are the pre order.sales right or just bloated figures?

Amazon will sell a bazillion of these device simply because most end users have no interest in knowing what or why something works....just that it does (and the cheap price). They are dis-motivated to explore how good their tab experience could be. Besides comparing the ipad2 to the AF is (pardon the pun) apples to oranges. Two totally different devices with different uses.
We who frequent forums like this have that curiosity therefore will probably be somewhat frustrated with devices like this in their locked down profile. While I have interest in the 7-inch form factor, for now, my NC does all I need and more.
Don't discount that we, as a culture, like "new flashy things"....many bought rocks as pets in the 80's so......we'll buy most anything....some of us will, that is.
problem is ipads are sold in almost all countries; while this seems to be biased towards the US only. Apple has stores in every mall. I dont see an amazon store in the mall. Kindle.is a name for book readers. Ipad is a name for touch tablet computers.
Amazon.needs to get this right on.first try.

$200 vs $500-900 is the reason Amazon will sell a lot. These are mobile Amazon storefronts and it means potentially millions of new customers to Amazon. Whether it sell more or less than iPads is inconsequential to adding new customers.
this and all other kindles with the nook are popular only in the US. Once you go outside a few shops sell this at a large markup because they either it does not sell or very few competing shops

True. It points to the fire being targeted at the us market. It will do very well here and lead to a lot of additional higher margin sales, which is what it is designed to do.
Free shipping and no taxes are primary reasons many people in the US use Amazon to buy things they could buy at the local stores, like coffee and tea.

You wrong on the tetheting on your phone statement. It will not work with adhoc. But true tether is a.p.All devices will tether a.p(tabs, phones, laptops, xboxes, blurry you name it it will work)
simply ginger
We'll never know.
Amazon won't release the actual numbers, just like they never did with the kindle. But this is not a direct competitor to the ipad, it's a mobile amazon storefront. I think of it as amazon version of the sears and Roebuck catalog.
More to the point..... No, it won't outsell the ipad, especially if you count global sales. It is possible though in the us market only. The backend is what is going to sell it. Content is King, not the device.

Seriously, i'm very confident of Kindle fire, and i think it's only a matter of time with Fire beating ipad2 if Amazon can keep its developing on Kindle Fire apps.
Stuff on Amazon is far more that you can imagine on itunes, since Android run on Fire is individualized by Amazon, i'm pretty sure many apps especailly for Kindle Fire users will be published on its website. BTW, there are far more movies and music on Amazon
Its low price is really attractive too, anyway, not anyone wants to spend 3 times more money on a ipad2 for some samiliar usage.
This is the first time i keep asking myself my i'm not living in America for they don't deliver Kindle Fire to China.

The iPad is successful because it is simple, does what 99% of home consumers want to use it for, at a reasonable price.
I cringed watching android tablet makers try to "one up" the ipad in terms of features or specs... It's as though they completely didn't get why the ipad was successful to begin with.
Finally someone realizes who buys ipads, and what they are looking for. And to compete against "...but, 5 people I know have ipads", you have to undercut on price.
And yes, this level of undercutting is tempting to way more people.
AND, might finally open the door to Android tablets that compete in the ways ipads became successful to begin with.
Lord knows Microsoft doesn't understand why ipads took off... their train is headed on a 1 year journey to a ghost town, even if they kick marketing into high gear, sadly.
Amazon is one of the first companies who does get it, and is larger enough to back it with consumer confidence, like Apple did.

Hi Guys
I'm new to XDA but have been a long time visitor, I have pre ordered a 16gb Nexus 7 and cant wait but I had a Question
As stated at I/O the Nexus 7 comes with several extras such as $25 credit (£15 in my case) and a copy of Transformers the Movie, so i was wondering if we are to receive the copy of the movie, what are the chances of Google activating Movies & TV and purchases in the UK?
I know i can download movies using alternative methods but it would be great if it was possible to use Google Play Movies & TV
Thanks
The UK can access movies through the play store already, just not TV shows

Oh, i see. Sorry
i wouldn't expect anything anytime soon, especially seeing how we haven't even got google music in the uk yet.
for whatever reason media companies seem reluctant to allow decent movie/tv over the internet. all the offerings from lovefilm, netflix, film4 and the like are pretty disappointing.

couldnt agree more about the lack of decent tv/movies
I have got google music on my htc one s.... although i cant download music i have managed to add my own collection to it :victory:
i don't understand the attitude of the film companies. it's almost impossible to get decent content online, and then they wonder why people download stuff illegally.
mate of mine wanted to watch a film, but there's no rental store near him and he didn't want to wait 2-3 days to get a postal rental. so he got it off torrent and the film studios lost a few quid. their loss not his.
at least we've got spotify in the uk for music - and if you can afford a cheap NAS it's a great way to get at your music on the go.
