10.1V Questions - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi There!
Just wondering if anyone has managed to get skype working easily on the 10.1v GT? I downloaded the beta but it says it doesn't support this screen size.
Secondly, I notice a bunch of apps don't work nicely one of which I was particularly dissapointed about which is the epicurious application which works fine on the apple tablet, and I think the XOOM too. Screen doesn't size properly so it's a tiny little app in the corner.
IS there a list of predefined gestures somewhere?
Thanks in advance.

Not an owner but I'm not too fond of all the buttons it has..... The layout mostly.... But overall I think that this is a great entry-level smartphone to buy. Especially since it runs android. Low Cost, powerfull, and it will appeal to a wide variety of people.
Congrats on the purhase.
i want one too~
I have been using my magic about half a year now...
i love the phone, but the wifi problem that it has annoys me too much~
i think is about time that i switch to the new tatoo..
by the way.. where did you get the phone and how much was it?
I have had a Magic now for about 4 months, has been a great phone especially love the ability to hack it to bits! Just want Rosie and the Tattoo looks like a great phone with it installed natively.
I am looking forward to the Tattoo just a bit worried about the QVGA screen and its support of current applications, other than that it is the perfect Android phone. Especially love the 3.5mm jack on it for my car!
Vodafone UK have it available now, I have had to wait a week for it to appear on Vodafones Business user tarriffs but our account manager confirmed it on Friday and shipped us a couple out.
I have the tattoo and i gotta say i like it. I was worried about the small screen and lack of apps but the screen is very responsive and the phone is running great atm, no freezing ect. There's been about 30-40 new apps added to the store since i got it so i guess more will follow. All in all im happy with it

I've seen a few videos and the screen looks really responsive. Almost more responsive than my TD2. With that said Resistive screens have come a long way since the TD2. And the TD2 is really resistive. I'd love to compare the 2 screens.
With Andoid 2.0 aren't all apps supposed to be able to support all resolutions?
No real complaints yet
I have had mine for 3 days now and so far not had any real issues. Going from a LONG TIME as a Windows PDA user to a new OS & way of doing things is always going to be interesting, but for the most part very intuitive and good fun!!
So far there are a few things I have found to be a bit annoying;
- I cannot seem to access files / folders directly on the SD Card or the phone itself. The media player picks up any music put on the card automatically as does the picture album app, but if I want to save text files / PDF's etc. and view later that isn't much help.
- The on-screen keyboard isn't as good as some I have used, especially for those of us that have fat fingers. turning it sideways brings up a bigger keyboard in landscape mode but I have had to revert to using an old stylus on the screen if I am writing anything particularly long.
- There seems to be no Task Manager program built in, though the TasKiller app is fantastic and does a good job, that should have been something that was built in. It would also be nice to be able to say which programs are allowed to run at start-up and so on.
All in all a very good phone, my iPhone loving friends have been very impressed, especially when I told them how cheep it is!! I know the Android OS is still very young compared to some of its rivals, but there are a few important things that it seems to be missing and I am loosing that functionality.
Hope this helps
Rob
I got one. It's really nice. The only problem is the market.
Since market 1.6 they created flaggs for the screensize (or it refers to it anyway, I think they're id'ing by phone, not screen). Unless you compile your app with the latest sdk and added the small screen flagg the app will NOT be visible in the market for tattoo's.
You'll have to get those apps in another way.
Imo very bad advertisement for the android os and a really big precedent but what can you do.
Had my Tattoo for a week now. I have only a couple of issues.
1. No Auto focus, so apps like bar code scanner do not work (though the 2d codes work?)
2. Not as many apps on the store due to 1.6 OS and QVGA screen
The Tattoo is brilliant compared to my WM based HTC Diamond.
My Tattoo is 5 days old now.
In short .. I love it. I love how fast the Android is.
But I furious to know that my Tattoo is not came with Market apps. I think I have to re-flash the ROM with another Tattoo ROM.
Pretty good but.....

I got my girlfriend one on Orange (I Have a Hero).
1. Most noticable difference is screen quality. Nothing to do with it being resistive, its just smaller with a lower resolution.
2. There is something strange going on with the Market. There are loads of apps missing that should be there. Not sure if this is a Donut, Orange, Google problem. I have heard that there have been similar issues with other new devices on release. Is it a screen size issue? That would suck.
3. Orange (cos they're daft) have removed the Gmail app (anybody got an .apk that'll work on the tattoo) from they're version! Hard to believe I know, incredibly there is no way to sync your Gmail account or read your Gmail (ok I know you can use HTCs widget but I find the exchange support for Gmail to be a bit flaky). Proper google account sync is a key feature of an android device and Orange have removed it!
Anyway rant over. GF seems happy with it but she deffo wants access to the same apps as I have on the Hero.
Had my Tattoo now for a few days and i love it... Much more smooth running and quicker then the Diamond or the Touch HD (blackstone)...
Good value for the pricetag.....

Is the screen issue. Tattoo came with 240x320 screen resolutions while almost all the application in the market was set to higher resolutions. Just wait, I think they will update it to support lower android resolutions like Tattoo.
IN regards to the email, I just set up new IMAP account (not exchange) for my gmail, and it works perfectly,

I have setup IMAP on my gf's Tattoo and it works ok but still Orange are complete muppets for removing the Google Mail app (and Google talk and Youtube!).

[Q] Handwritten Notes

Does anyone know of an app for Android tablets that can do this? I have just switched from an iPad1. I used Noteshelf for taking notes and it was very very smooth. There were plenty of others too.
I have tried all the ones I can find for Android:
Genial Writing
PenSupremacy
Handrite
Freenote
and more
They are incredibly bad with text not appearing until seconds after you lift the stylus/finger or curved lines being squared off. Even the drawing apps are terrible. My guess is either the Asus TF is very under-powered to be able to do this smoothly or there's just no developers focusing on this.
Anyone?
Try:
Writepad
Anripaper note
For drawing I use Sketchbook Pro
I've started using Antipaper, and I like it. I'm unsure of whether or not I wanna pay for the full version though (when it becomes available). I like my tf, but I'll probably use it to supplement with notes, not to take actual notes in class..
you can change the delay setting in freenote to reduce the delay between you stopping writing and it showing the text.
try it again and play with the settings.

Indeed you can....
I found the best speed for my use was 400ms. This cleared up the delay issue.
You can use Myscript notes mobile it can be ported of a lenovo ideapad.

I would look into writepad stylus, he has a thread over on the Xoom forum where you can follow his progress.
Writepad forum thread
Otherwise DrawPro is great for TF for just drawing, otherwise your best bet is still FreeNote right now.
OK, Antipaper looks usable. Looking forward to the PRO version. Shame it can't email the complete notepad, but I can cope.
Thankyou very much for the recommendation.

Apps Confusing the Note as a Full Size Tablet

Has anyone else run into this problem? Care to list such apps?
Google Music's interface is much different on the Note than it is on an S2 (at least for me). Where on the S2 artists, albums, etc are displayed in a long list of names, on the Note they are displayed in a long list of thumbnails of the artist, album, etc. This layout would make sense on a full size tablet and horizontal scrolling but it is very inefficient on the Note. Also much more taxing on the hardware (not that the Note is lacking in this department though). I would much prefer the S2's layout to quickly find an artist or scroll through the list.
Swiftkey X gives a warning when installed saying the phone version is incorrect for this device (the Note), use the tablet version. However, skipping the warning is not detrimental and the phone version works perfectly on the Note (have not tried the tablet version).
I assume this has to do with the resolution of the Note and apps confusing it as a Full Size Tablet. Anybody else seen this problem? On what apps? Workarounds?

I don't know if it's a 'problem'.
I don't necessarily like it with certain programs (some games are a bit painful to play), but I don't consider it a bug or anything.
It's a matter of detected screen resolution and how the app decides to use it. I don't see any workaround for it, unlike windows where you can use a selected resolution.
It would be nice for there to be an option to set screen resolution.
I imagine there are some people interested in the note because they want the larger size (larger icons/text/buttons/etc) but not necessarily the higher resolution. You can't always set that.

it has full tablet resolution so it should run like that

Ya, I know. But for some apps it really is not optimal. Just trying to get a feel for how many apps are going to encounter this "problem" (for lack of a better word).
Use spare parts to make the adjustment
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Plume thought that my note was a tablet. However the support team gave me a corrected version and said that it will be sorted in their next release

Honecomb better than Jellybean

After months of procastination I finally made the plunge and upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 from Honeycomb to Jellybean and I can confess it's like an upgrade to hell.
I cannot think of one good reason for doing this to a tab.
Apart from the cosmetic changes, which are to be expected, a lot of the other changes have been made to the internals which seem to degrade the system and the experience.
I used ROM Manager with cm-10.1-20130504-EXPERIMENTAL-p1-cdesai.zip, and gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip for the upgrade.
I rely heavily on bluetooth for making and receiving phone calls on the tab with Plantronics Voyager Pro and also Polar heart rate monitor which I use in the gym., so bluetooth is absolutely essential, so it was shock horror when I found bluetooth not working.
However thanks to ROM Manager for suggesting an update and a reboot and now the bluetooth is working.
However the notification bar at the top of the screen together with its icons are now so tiny that one almost needs a magnifying glass to see them.
In particular the bluetooth icon is gray instead of blue giving the impression that it is not enabled. Since found out that grey icon means enabled, turns to blue when paired/connected and if not enabled then it disappears.
Another concern was that the file system seemed to be all messed up with respect to external card.
Whereas the old file folder used to show externalsd right at the top in a blue folder the new File Manager folder opens showing all the folders in sdcard0 but there is a cumbersome fix to this. Open FileManager, then Menu-Settings-GeneralSettings-AccssMode and select 'Root Access Mode' then a new folder appears called "storage" appears will open.
This will then show a choice of two folders sdcard0 and sdcard1.
Other changes like getting to know how to change the widget on the lock screen and setting permissions for some apps are ongoing.
Some programs which previously had access to the external card are messed up as the path is no longer valid and will have to be reinstalled as well as their maps.
I can say that after a week the bluetooth connections seem fairly reliable and responsive thanks to the CM update.
I think it is just too much trouble to revert to Honeycomb otherwise I would and in my opinion that was the best and most stable version of android, at least on my rooted tab. All I have really achieved is a few cosmetic changes and a lot of work getting everything going like I had it before. One advantage is that I can now install Chrome which seems to be a fairly good browser apart from the fact that it is always running.
I was surprised to find that Google Maps was not installed and had to go and fetch it from the app store.
A major problem which I ran into was that every time an app gets installed it puts what looks like a shortcut on the home screen. If I try to remove the shortcut by dragging it over the X the word 'remove' turns to 'uninstall'.
Since found out after a lot of googling that it is possible to go into the Play Store, tap Settings and uncheck the box next to Auto-add widgets to prevent this happening, and to get rid of a shortcut from your home screen just long-press on it and then flick it up off the screen rather than drag. Crazy. I would imagine that the default setting would be not to add the 'hard to get rid of' shortcut in the first place.
i use the tab for playing with the features of the new releases, so i am fine with jb. But my real question is quite OT:
Which polar monitor do you use? What app do you use with it? How is your experience with it?
Hi there martini2, the Polar bluetooth heart rate monitor works well with most apps. I checked quite a few exercise/activity apps until I found the best one that suited me was Sports Tracker Pro and I am very happy with that set-up. A bit disappointed that I didn't get a hxm device as they have released the software to the public which is a big plus and the hxm would also work with Sports Tracker Pro.
I am now committed to jelly bean and have belted it into shape the way I think I had things before.
In spite of my criticism I think the people over at Cyanogenmod have done a terrific job on the experimental version of jelly bean for the Galaxy Tab and the ongoing weekly updates.
Hope that helps.
So far i've no problem using cm-10.1-20130703-NIGHTLY-p4.zip. I just have a random flicker and its really fast. Sometime its unnoticeable.

Cannot rotate screen after Marshmallow OTA update

Hi
I used to quick-launch Librera reader from the epd-screen and was able to rotate the screen in landscape configuration which comes in handy when you're reading books.
Since I did the Android 6 update OTA, I noticed the way the epd screen is managed has changed. As I understand it:
- 1. either you *enter yota-mirror mode* and the whole "OS" will be mirrored to the epd screen.
- 2. or you *send* the current app to the epd screen.
With the first option, rotating the screen still rotates the app,
but with the second option the app orientation is locked in portrait mode.
With Librera I get additional menu items (not sure what to thing of that) and UI items are not reachable, as if the app was internally using a wrong (too big) screen size.
But this also happens with other rotatable apps, like Firefox focus.
Is this something standard or is this bug specific to my own phone ?
Thanks.
I'm still searching a solution for this. Yep, I am the last yotaphoner (Dec'2019)

Nope, Telegram has an active Italian group and I'm updating my YD206 HK4.4.3 with CN Baseband to 6.01 RU1.1.47 to give to a resident
in Guadalajara's best training hospital to replace the one that was stolen in a morning street robbery.
If it had a microSD slot I'd be using it still. NO GAPPS or apps that depend on them so it runs much faster than usual.
