my friend owns an 8525 and all of a sudden it stopped working (cant make/recieve calls and text messages). i tried doing a hard reset and it didnt work. he called att and the tech guy told him that his phone needs to reinstall the rom, which also didnt work. he bought a new phone and gave me the hermes so that i can play around with it. i tried installing wm6 on it and at 15% the update stopped.. and the phone reset itself. now.. it doesnt have a rom installed and keeps on going to the tricolor screen. i tried the unbrick method (in the wiki) several times and still no luck. it keeps telling me that i dont have enough ram but the booting still wont start. what are my other options for fixing this?... my kaiser was bricked before and i did the unbrick method for that and it work.. i havent tried that yet but is there any chance that it will work..?..
he doesnt need the phone anymore but hes hoping that itll be fixed so he can use it as a backup phone.. so.. yea.. any other ideas for ressurecting an old friend?
thanks!!
Sounds like the radio rom is dead.... Whats the SPL? You have a chance if it has Hard SPL installed - should say SPL - 2.10 olipro.
If so, try flashing a stock rom first, then a radio only rom. If you get no love, flash a cooked rom on it. I'd do it using the sd card method.
It should work as a PDA if you can't flash the radio, but its a brick cos no more phone calls...
If he doesn't want that, he could sell it on ebay for spare parts...
Cheers...
I just went through a similar situation last night. I am running dvh_79's v16 (build 19965.1.2.3) Lite. I added his HTC Today Plugin from the sdauto zip file but didn't like how the Today plugin slowed down my phone, so I uninstalled it and that's when my radio took a dump.
I used the instructions in the Hard SPL forum post #116 to unbrick it using the same rom and radio .nbh files and it went off without a hitch.
The first thing anyone should flash onto their phone is Hard SPL v7. Even before any skins. It won't make you 100% safe from bricks, but I'm damn glad I had it on there this morning while I was reinstalling my phone.
BTW ultramag69, I saw a lot of posts by you in various threads talking about unbricking a phone, and correct me if I am wrong, but if I have olipro 2.10 SPL on my phone (which I do), is it possible to initiate an install of a ROM image without being able to successfully boot the OS on the phone? Does Olipro automatically look for HERMIMG.nbh on the SD card? That was a point of confusion for me at first until I ran the HARDSPPL.exe file, but then again my phone didn't brick to the point I couldn't boot the OS.
What are the choices if you cannot boot OS? Are there any that can be performed from the bootloader itself?
Thanks.
well.. i did the kaiser unbrick procedure.. the mtty thingy.. it kinda worked. after that i installed the dopod wm6 rom... it handled the wm6 well---for a while.. after booting, the phone would turn off by itself (w/ 100% battery of course) or even restart itself..
sometimes it will stay on and be "fully functional" (w/o the calling and messaging still...) but somehow freezes when i look at the device information, specifically in the page where it displays the imei (which is missing btw...)..
the "phone" function doesnt work either, as it doesnt show the dialer.. and then after a few minutes, the phone finally freezes...
idk why this happens.. i tried installing other roms but the rom update always freezes. i tried 4 different roms already... so i had to do the mtty thing again...
(i have hardspl installed)
Codevyper, IF YOU HAVE hARD SPL INSTALLED, yes you can run the os flash. Just put the sd card in and reset. As the Hermes is going to the bootloader anyway it will recognise the flash file "hermimg.nbh". I've successfully fixed my phone when thats happened.
akosiryan, it sounds like you may have a corrupted radio rom. This is not gonna make you happy but this is ,at this point, almost 100% unbrickable. You could try to flash a radio only rom - no os, just the radio - but if it gets stuck and you've tried the stock rom then it looks like its a permanent brick...
You should be able to use as a PDA if you don't play with the phone functions though...
Just as a last shot, you could always use MTTY to check for bad blocks BUT this requires you to downgrade the SPL to 1.10 olipro to fix if you do. Please note though that sometimes the carrier does give you a couple of bad blocks to "brand" it as theirs...
Best of luck.

Thanks ultramag69! I am indeed running olipro 2.10 on my phone so it makes me feel better knowing that if I can get the nbh on the card, then I can flash the ROM that way.
oh well.. me and my friend decided to sell his phone on ebay or sumthin..lol.. so its not a problem.. ill try to do one last step tho.. like flashing the radio only rom to see if itll work.. but i dont really care anymore.. lol.
No problem... If the Ebay from where you're from is like Aussie ebay, you should get approximately 1/2 to 2/3 the price that the working models go for. Generally the price goes up about 6 hours before the end of the auction with the price skyroketing in the last 10 mins... I'd probably give it a few days on Ebay to make sure people see it....
If you do get the radio rom working, Hermes (jasjam/dopod 838 pro) go for about $250 - $350Aud in Oz.
Cheers...
ok then! thanks
Hey everybody,
My HD is acting funny at the moment. The screen isn`t going on anymore. The device self is responding, it makes noise when someone calls and vol up/down is also responding. I know where the vibrate button on the screen appears and when i press at this place it also responds. So the screen is responding but isn`t turning on. Also the green/orange light behind the power button isnt working. Maybe a problem with the backlight? The device is younger than a year so i should have warranty but I flashed the device. Should this cause any problems when i send it back?
Greets
I think your screen is dead.
did you drop the phone or some thing like that??
and if you want to send it back, you need the original rom from HTC or the custum rom from your phone company.
Do you alredy try to Hardreset?
Thanks for the replies! I didn`t drop the phone or something like that, it just started to do it. Hard reset is a bit of a guess if it worked because the screen isn`t working. A bit annoying because i also need to flash it back to original if i want to sent it to HTC...Any tips?
than flash it back you don't need the screen to do it.
I used USPL a few weeks ago to flash a 1.56 rom. Do i also need to flash back my spl than? Am i right that you first had to flash back the SPL to original 1.14?
Does anybody have a clue about the SPL i`ve got at the moment? Last time i used USPL to flash a 1.56 rom. So do i have the original SPL at the moment?

As long as you have stock rom on it and stock SPL you will be fine.
You flashed a 1.56 rom using USPL so chances are your SPL is 1.54.0000 which should be fine for returning under warranty.
Your main concern is getting stock rom on device which you should still be able to do even without screen working. Connect device to pc and run USPL as normal and then flash stock 1.56 rom onto device
Thanx for the reply!
I didn`t know SPL 1.54 would be ok to return under warranty. I did the following: I`ve set my phone in bootloader, runned USPL and flashed a cooked wwe rom. This was all completed correctly so i should be able to return it under warranty right?
I used this rom: RUU_BlackStone_HTC_Europe_1.56.401.0_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship

Yeah i meant stock rom, just got off the phone with HTC. They`re picking it up next Thuesday... I`ll keep in touch!
Hi Sharpedgedone - I've also got the same problem on my un-modded (standard ROM) Touch HD.
Just left a message with HTC support, hopefully mine will also be still under warranty.
Will let you know how I go.
The idiots lost the phone! HTC track site still said `we`re expecting delivery and will start repair asap´. Contacted with HTC and confirmed that the phone still hadn`t arrived and an investigation was started to retrieve the phone. They also said the phone was branded and they made a mistake taking the repair assignment. This had to be done thrue the provider and not directly by HTC. Called my provider and they say the device is unbranded, like i ordered it begin this year specifically. I mailed the pick-up order letter to the person who is investigating the whereabouts of the phone 10 days ago. Still nothing...
Any advice or experiences with this?
Just got the phone back, opened the box @ the postoffice. Immediately noticed the IMEI nr changed. Phoned with HTC from there, dont know what happenden, they earlier said the phone was send directly back by the package service when they found it. Starting an investigation again. They made the note to contact the repair center by myself. Contacted Eurotwice repair center (BE), they`re the official HTC repair center, and they said they also dont know and the device was sent to Dynafix (NL). Thats the repair center of the provider. Contacted Dynafix and they said the Mobo was swapped en sent back to Eurotwice and eurotwice sent it back to me...
Device seems to be working ok for now so thats positive . I only had to call for a total of 2 hours to find this out by myself. Anyone knows where i can demand this back from HTC or file in a complaint?
Hi guys, I've a problem with my HD2 and maybe one of you has an idea of how to fix this, because I really don't want to send it in for a repair
Anyway, my phone decided to refuse to boot out of nowhere. When it happened I had Artemis v9 or v10 installed on it. The funny thing is that I didn't flash anything when the problem occured.
Whenever I start the phone I only get a white screen. Luckily, I can still access the bootloader, even thought that didn't help me until now.
my guess is that the Radio is somehow corrupted, because when I try to flash a new one I get the error saying "Radio_V2 failed" and "Update Terminated". Not even flashing with task 29 works, because I get a "Error 270" and the phone restarts itself after like 4% of flashing.
I'm really out of ideas, I tried to flash a lot of different roms and radios, even the rom that the HD2 came shipped with.

What radio (if any) have you flashed? Check the ROM's dedicated thread you want to flash and see if the radio is compatible.
Im betting you've flashed the wrong radio
take the rom it was shipped with, name the nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh, copy it to your sd card and go into bootloader.
it will flash your old rom and should overwrite the old radio.
DN41
I installed Radio 2.06.51.07, which was recommended as far as I know.
I tried to install every "official" rom that I could find, but no matter if I apply them via SD card, USB or .exe, the install never finishes.
Tried to install just the OS without a radio and that worked, so I'm almost sure it is somehow radio related.
Now the problem is that I can't even send it to T-Mobile, because I there is no way to get rid of HSPL. BTW, it's the german T-Mobile we are talking about, not the US one. Is there a chance they won't notice the HSPL...?
so flash this one over sd-card: german t-mobile 1.72
what about performing hardreset? does the phone boot?
DN41
Tried flashing the TMO rom, but no luck either
Hard reset is strangly fast (only takes like 7 seconds) and only gives me a white screen after reboot. Apperently the HD2 shows me that HSPL is intsalled in the bootloader, but I can't change the SPL...
Already tried HSPL2, but no matter what option I choose, my bootloader always stays at 1.42 HSPL.
Edit: I would like to post pics of the error I get when flashing from the sd card or the bootloader screen, by the board rules don't want new users to post links.

I have exactly the same problem.
I believe radio hardware of my HD2 has failed.
This is not related to flashing an incompatible radio, as I have flashed 1.66 official ROM about three months ago and had no problems until now.
I got the white screen, when phone was in my pocket.
Not possible to update radio, update fails with "Radio_V2 failed" and "Update Terminated".
Not possible to flash any rom, flashing fails when it comes to radio part.
MTTY didn't help as well.
I see no way but to send it back for repair.
Hope they dont realize HSPL, as it is also not possible to change SPL right now.
Hi everybody, i am facing the same issues with my knew HD2. The fact is that i received it yesterday, while trying to flsah ENERGY ROM ..i flashed also the radio .. now got the white screen with the HTC green logo, and no way to hard reset ... phone doesn't boot, can't do anything !!!!!! volume + and volume - doesn't work !!! any idea any solution ?? I am about to try flashing with the memory card but no idea if it will work, im not sure cause even the HSPL doenst appear ... anu idea ?
I've got the same problem
Mine is a Telstra (Australian) HD2, and I've been using it for about 3 weeks fine. Then a few days ago, I took it out of my pocket, and it's dead. With my one, most of the time I just get a blank screen (no HTC), and most of the time it's slightly yellow.
I'm having the exact same problems, and have done everything suggested on this page, and others. I can't send mine back either.
I'm guessing since no one's replied, there's not really a solution to this.
If it is a failed radio, I'm amazed how easily they fail, and how many people seem to have this problem.
I have the same problem today. Anybody help?

i had the same problem with my Telstra T9193. i couldnt find any solutions so its on its way back to australia under warrenty.
I had a similar problem to this, though it appears I just fixed it. I can only imagine it's just a temporary fix though, as I previously managed to get it working and running Android only to white screen again the next day.
I did a hard reset and now it loaded the white HTC screen and nothing else. I tried installing a stock ROM from the MicroSD card and got the same "Update Terminated Update Fail" error because of the Radio. Retried the update about 3 times, and it eventually installed fine.
same here, i reloaded a stock from sd to relock it, which i highly recommend for anyone having this problem - in case it needs to go for repair and it just happens to boot..it took quite a few tries to have a proper flash and it booted only a few tries afterwards and then went back to only booting the white htc screen. so frustrating. and unfortunately for me it has to go back to australia for warrenty and will likely take ages to get back
I was stuck at multi color boot screen after hard reset. Tried multiple roms.
Solution: Use the 2.13 rom from here. Worked thankfully!

After being looooong on this forum, I finally got my first bricked HTC. I got all the same problems, white screen, no way to get HSPL gone, and no update via SD possible, no ROM update via USB in bootloader and no radio update possible...
Anybody knows how much it costs if I send it to HTC and they find yout it has been HSPL-ed?
Next with the bricked HD2
So definitely I´m in the same situation.. I have unusable SMARTPHONE!!
Even worse, because in my case i have no chance to send it to warranty repair - I was too disparate and curious so I opened my HD2 to look for an backup battery to erase everything that could have resist my countless tries to reflash, hardreset, flash RADIO, flash ROMs...
At the begging was the same (btw the same is still) : I took my phone and it did´t answer for waking it up. So I pressed red button to (soft)reset it. But it booted only to white screen (not the HTC one but "pure" withe w/o logo, w/o software info but with slightly yellow hue)
This was almost whole week ago... During that time I tried almost everything (I don´t have gold card - since I can´t get CID of any SD card I´m not able to have one and have installed HSPL 2.08 I´m ABLE to FLASH any ROM - even successfully reflashed cooked ROM via SD Card.!!) and the answer for me is probably some hardware problem....

I'm sorry, I just sent my to the repair center. Hope they will repair it under warranty. Otherwise it will cost me 100 Euro, just to find out I have to pay for the repairs. Then I can choose to let the device there (then I don't pay 100 euro) or let the device ship back (I pay 100 euro for a brick) or let them do the repairs which they will say how much it will cost on top of that 100 euro ..... stress ....

With the radio bricked there are only two things you can try to do:
1- You can go on using your hd2 without updating the radio. Try to download a rom without radio and install it, or ask a cook to prepare a rom (you can try an official rom if you want to recover the original SPL) without radio for you.
2 - Do what I did and sell the phone as bricked, because there's no way to unbrick radio system. I tried to save my HD2 by recovering the original SPL and sending the phone to the htc customer service. I got the phone back after 2 months and it was still radio bricked

ok as from my knowledge you dont necessarily need to do task29 if its ur first time flashing (cuz i didnt and i got very good results) so i think u messed up in tht part.. but its ok, now you prolly want to first --> do a task29 again... second ---> get the nrg rom and flash it.... third -->get a radio of 2.10 or higher and flash tht....and just to play safe flash everything using custom ruu (i got better results using them...just saying)... also when u do each flash and its suspenseful dont boot up the phone, just take out the battery and back into bootloader.
hope this helps... report back lol
^thanks man
Okay so heres how it goes, my phone is def not bricked
custom ruu has only worked once for me
now whenever i try to use it it always gets stuck at 8%
i found that if i flash it at night and hard reset. wait til morning and turn on the phone
then it loads past the nrg screen and into the OS.
i'm currently trying to get it back to stock and i downloaded the tmobile update
but it doesnt seem to work, it also keeps stopping at 8%
i disable the anti virus stuff and i plug it in to the back of my computer
sounds like a defect
sorry to bust your bubble bro but it sounds like you got a classic case of a defective leo, i too did the same steps you did and it turns out my main board wasn't any good and the phone kept overheating, turns out when flashing custom roms they tend to put more pressure on the snapdragon then a regular stock t mobile rom. i know this sounds crazy but i believe it to be true, so with that said you got two options, one get back to t mobile customer care and get a replacement. or do what i did and find a repair shop and let them know that your leo either needs a new mainbaord or a new heatskin like mines did, it cost me 80 dollars which wasnt bad since my leo was a gift and i couldnt give it back to t mobile... hope that helps in some way
p.s. sorry for the edit but if you cant do either of those of what i suggested, try this get yourself a nice icepack nthe size of your phone and mount the leo on top of it whenever your using it, so that sucker wont overheat. once again i hope i helped
All of a sudden my touch screen stopped responding to me, so I thought it was a rom error and went into clockwork from boot and reflashed it 4 times now and I still can't get it to see the touch screen. It was working just fine and mid message it just stopped working.
Can anyone help me with this? I tried a reset holding down the yellow button on the back too.
Mine just did the same thing. If it's in warranty.. Just send it in.
It's the digitizer, usually.. The connections for the digitizer are right under the Call End button (the physical red one) I believe.. I've just been repeatedly pressing that button multiple times and eventually the screen will work.. until I lock it or it decides to stop, which is rarely does if the screen never goes off.

yes flash your stock windows rom..from sd card method...download your stock rom from the tmobile site or htc site which ever suits your phone ..extract the file and then search for the largest .nbh file ...rename it to LEOIMG.nbh ..place it on you sd card and follow instructions.. after complete you should now send it in for warranty

I believe any warranty will cover a defect like that granted there's no physical damage or water damage (the little water strip on the inside).
Before you send it in.. MAKE SURE that you flash everything back to stock. They would LOVE a reason to not have to fix it for you..

Never mind crapped out for good this time, having tmob replace it.
yours is a hardware problem ... i had the same problem once upon a time.. i had to send it for repar ...they changed the touch screen for INR 5000 i.e. about $100

so do u think that if i fix the touch screen issue i'll be able to enter CWM?? i mean isnt there some problem that needs a JTAG? i really am confused and i am willing to go to a repair center to fix it today but if i fix the screen and still cant use android so i wont benifit anything..
i tried to press the call end botton hard for more than 3 times and nothing worked... so do u still think that its the connector that is broken?
Okay they are sending me a new phone, so what all should I do to the old one before it goes back? I can't use the touch screen at all but I can still get into clockwork and such.
Yup your screen connector is probably broken ..so send it in for a fix ...when you get it back just flash clk or magldr ..and then flash cwm partition it will work ..I think u are making a mistake while installing the clock work recovery mod. The cwm problem is not at all hardware related probalby you did something wrong. good luck. But flash official stock Windows Rom using SD care method.
Edit :the jtag has to be done only when you Brick your device I.e you device doesn't turn on due to flashing a wrong Windows Rom (flashing Android doesn't pose any threat )

What cwm problem? It works fine, I just wanted to know if I should go grab the newest offical rom off tmobs website and flash it before I send it back to them is all. Since I am not sure they will take it back with android on it.

thank you alot brother for helping me... well im sorry if i seem naggy but im gonna tell u how i installed the cwm so you can tell me whats wrong...
first of all i had a stock windows mobile rom from HTC website so the things i did were
1- task 29 and it was done perfectly
2- i installed the radio 2.15.50.14
3- i installed magldr v1.13, when i open it it gives me a fail to open an android nand but i havent install it yet so i think its not a problem.. i mentioned this because it never used to appear to me when i used to flash android roms before.
4- i go to usb in the magldr to install cwm and when its connected i install magldr by pressing on daf on the computer as an administrator and it gets installed perfectly.
then when i open AD recovery it stucks on the go go go screen and nothing opens..
i tried to install CLK one time and did the instructions but also cwm never opened.. so do u still think if i fix the screen issue then cwm will work?
i was thinking that the defect in openning cwm is because of a bios problem.. (( well i dont know if its called bios in the mobile but i mean what like the bios in the computer)) so thats why i thought about the JTAG.. but if u think that i will not benifit it then i wont do it and i'll only fix the screen issue..
btw i did a hard reset before i did the installation of the cwm...
sorry for making my reply long but i really would like u to know everything happenning because u seem as an expert that would be able to help me.. plus i really cant live without the android and i need to fix it
thank you again brother

I sold mine for 110€ because I didn´t have warranty and the repair costs about 80€ and more.
Now I bought samsung galaxy s and it cost me additional 130€.
So at the end of the day, I´m satisfied with my decision because I have a new phone right away, I have no worries about the repair and I don´t have to use old Nokia from the middle ages
