Gingerbread HD Camera stretched - Desire HD General

Hi everyone,
Currently I'm using Android Revolution HD 5.1.7 on my Desire HD (running Gingerbread)
I'm noticing that the camera app is stretching the screen of the video a little bit out in height when the resolution is set on HD (1280x720) and when I'm on 800x400 resolution, the stretching is gone.
The stretching itself is very subtle, so you won't notice it instantly.
Anyone else seeing this or is it just my device?
EDIT:
So on screen it looks different, but it seems the HD video (in 720p) is recorded correctly (if you watch it on PC).
Not a big issue, but quite annoying imo.
But is it my device only or does everyone running the official Gingerbread from HTC has it too?

HD vs X1 : Video playback -> which one?

I'm going to make the final decision on buying these... I rather choose both of this phone over iPhone.. The screen resolution is high and I love that !
Video playback & Youtube 60%
Call & Organizer 30%
Games 10%
I didn't care if it has qwerty keyboard or not. I did care a little on size of the screen but I really want the one that have the good video playback experience.
I saw many vid from youtube that the touch HD screen is kind of yellow.. I just wanna know that can I fix that sort of problem (well, it's a problem for me). I see that the X1 has the better contrat and more beautiful (as I see from youtube). I really like the 3.8 inches screen. Is there any color fix on the HD?
My HD doesn't have any yellowness with video playback .
Blacks and whites are both pure. I compared my HD video playback to a X1 and the HD wins handsout. Even if it's just the way bigger screen which is real comfortable with watching, it wins. And by having coreplayer you can just throw any divx movie at it and it'll play it without stuttering.
Performance wise there isn't a whole lot of difference though.
--Edit
To improve performance with video playback on your HD you should do some minor tweaks which will help alot, like the SD Tuneup tweak. Theres a thread on improving video playback and how you do it aswell.
I watch load of films on my HD and I have never noticed a problem with yellowness. Then again I have not seen the screen of the X1.

antrak, never sure whether to install SD tuneup on the phone or the card, which do you recommend?
TIA

It's supposed to be installed on the internal memory (phone) which will then allow for faster file access on your card.

I have both an X1 and a HD, I just compared the 2 and the X1 has a slightly higher contrast. The HD still looks better then the X1 though cause of the screen size and is much more comfortable watching.
Too bad I don't have a camcorder otherwise I could post a comparison vid for you.

here this is what I mean.. It seem that the color and the contrast on the touch hd seem to be yellow. Look at the background when it is white on the iPhone.. I'm not sure about it, anyway thx about the replies : ) i don't know that it is like this or not

It's not as bad as it looks in that video. I only noticed that its not bright white yesterday when i had my Touch HD next to a Blackbetty 8900 and could see the blackberry was whiter. It's white but not as white as other phones, and certainly not yellow.
Looks to me more like the iPhone is too blue
o i c
guess i make a stupid thread haha
thx all replies
There is absolutely no yellowness issue you mention. The HD movie performance are just insane, better than any currently available device - it's just awesome. I watch a lot of movies on HD and I'm always blown away with the quality.
The fact that you can use just normal DIVX movies from torrents is also very cool.
Also, as for the contrast / brightness, I don't know if you guys are aware, but you can actually control the color adjustments in Core player, and some of those presets do produce a punchier video image, more saturated, deeper blacks etc. Beware that using custom color adjustments can have a negative impact on performance in some cases. So, if you experience lag, just turn it back to "native".
Also, you need to take into consideration whether your device has auto-adjust brightness turned on, because it's possible that is reducing the overall image brightness.

There's no color problem. I guess the problem you saw was related to the white balance of the video (or maybe it is your LCD monitor)?
Anyway, mine is fine. The 3.8" screen is amazing for videos and there are no color problems. You don't really get to run 800x480 vids, that's too big.. But even smaller, e.g. VGA quality films look terrific. Remember that it's higher than the resolution of a TV set.
As for games.. If you want games - BUY AN IPOD. The HD / X1 are both based on WM and they are no match for the IPOD.
Hope that helps you..

Sure you do. Use h264 in mp4, run in wmp or album, and you get acceleration. Looks great, and you can re-encode ntsc DVDs (720*480) in 1:1, so no loss of quality through scaling.

HD Video

So ive just been reading over on gsmarena here and it says that the new iPhone can now play 1080p video. Even though im anti iPhone I have to say that it is pretty impressive. But lead me to ask the question what is the maximum video type that our HD can play? Also do you think the next generation phone to take over from the Touch HD will be equipped with advanced technology?
The iphone screen res is lower tha hd's BUT it has a tv out (with component), but the hd doesn't, so video with a higher resolution than 800*480 is useless for it

[Q] Few questions about desire HD before purchase

well i currently have a desire SLCD version and i really love it, however yest i got a pretty awesome offer which will allow me to jump to Desire HD free of charge
i tried the device myself for few minutes, i found it beautiful but having read some reviews i have some concerns
few reviews mentioned unlike the classic desire the Desire HD have problems playing back 720p videos even mp4 ones, this essential for me since i have my portfolio already encoded in 720p mp4 and runs perfect on my desire and don't want any stutter when i present it (Ad agency people will jump n say get an iphone you loser)
did anyone test the SD card speed with the desire HD? the classic froyo desire had a software issue with the SD card read ahead speed which was solved by patching the kernel, is this related to the video playback issue on the desire HD?
my second issue, reviews mentioned heavy digital processing in the camera produced photos, the desire had the same issue but i used to simply lower sharpness to -2 and the digital processing gets turned off (noise blur and then oversharpness) hence i was able to get beautiful almost analog like photos using the standard HTC camera app, do we have a similar negative sharpness setting in the desire HD camera and does it disable the image processing?
thanks for all the help
.mp4 files play very well even in 720p. It's the bitrate that might give you some trouble, but any reasonable setting (it's 4.3" after all) plays very smooth. Add the DLNA clent and you get an awesome player.

DEsire HD 1080p

ORiginal desire got the ability to record 720p videos . Even iPhone 3gs which was able to record vga video was able to record in 720p after a work around.will it be possible on desire HD to record full hd 1080p videos with any kind of work around

I'm not a techie but 720p usually means 1280 by 720 pixels where 1080p means 1920 by 1080 pixels. It's quite a jump between those values and even with a workaround that quality could be poop
the sensor won't be better with any change
It will just use more space from the sdcard
The sensor is capable of recording 1080p, but the processor is not capable of encoding in full hd. So no - it's not possible.

i agree, the sensor is the same size so the image will just be stretched and more space used for the same image quality

Nope, if the processor was capable of encoding 1080p, the video won't be just an upsampled version of the 720p video. It would be a true 1080. It's not the sensor alone that's responsible for the video quality - there are the lenses and the hardware encoding. And these (especialy the lenses) have the negative impact on our video recording IMO.
If not full HD then least some workaround to improve the current state. Audio really suck and video I dark most of the times. Really disappointed with the video quality on desire HD

Htc have always had ****ty cameras. If you wanted a camera phone the dhd isn't the best option.

Someone Swyped my idea.
to be able to record in 1080p would be great enhance but I bet changing from stock sd card is required it seems. class to won't do good with 1080p recording. correct me if I'm wrong
I wouldn't have thought a Class 2 card would anywhere near fast enough for full HD.
would you really notice the difference from 720p to 1080p if shot through the same lens?

Not with these lenses
the lens is capable enough to record 1080p,its the processor issue, because the new galaxy s2 has 8mpixel camera aswell and is capable of recording in full hd 1080p,so i was wondering,if i overclock my cpu to 1.2ghz,which i already done, will there be a solution?

Galaxy S2 has a dual core CPU.
We would need that, if we ever manage to capture in 1080p it would just be a slideshow because the CPU cant keep up.
A bit late to this party, the last post was about six months old.

Using HDMI out

Got one of those m-hdmi to normal HDMI adapters, it works great but I was wondering if the tn7 can out put higher than the 1280x800 the notes screen is to the TV? Or does it just detect and output the highest Res any way? Also does anyone know how to make the image fit the whole screen? I've got bars on the sides and top/bottom. First time I've used a tabs HDMI out =/

At the moment, you'll only get 1080p output if you watch a 1080p video. I was really hoping they were going to add Console Mode with full 1080p output with the 4.4 update, but alas... nope!
As for the image not fitting the TV, the tablet's display is actually 16:10 at 1280x800 and not 16:9 at 1280x720, so the image doesn't quite fit. It's kinda stupid since even my old Acer A500 tablet had a 16:10 screen but adjusted the output to fit 16:9. Long story short, though, is that it is what it is, and there's not really anything that can be done besides hoping and waiting for Nvidia to iron it out (or for a dev to fix it with a custom ROM some day).

If you don't want the bars on either side of the screen, you need to roll back to the original 4.2.2 firmware. Using that firmware, if you use a movie player like MX Player, when a film is playing, pinch to 'zoom' in on the film. As you do so the the edge of the film will disappear off the edge of the tablet's screen, but it will zoom in to fit the edges of the TV's screen, if you see what I mean. You will also find playback under 4.2 much smoother, whereas now you may experience micro stutters as though the movie is dropping frames or running at less than 24fps. If you search for Tegra Note Connectivity you'll find a thread I made with more info. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566828
Sadly 4.3 and 4.4 broke this rather cool zooming feature.
