Hi,
looked for an answer to this problem in the forum but didn't find it, i have a stock xperia play, sim free running gingerbread 2.3.2 and i'm based in the uk and have a uk handset. My problem is although i am offered the 2.3.3 update, when i try to get it i get stuck at the preparing phone stage on pc companion software, the phone switches off then the software tells me to disconnect USB cable from pc and phone, then it tells me to check battery power level(phone is off?) is at least 50% (it is 80%)then says turn the phone off? leave for 5 seconds then plug back in whilst holding the back hardware button. After this the computer does 3 beeps (normally error noise) and i have to do this all again, don't see anyone else having problems updating? your help would be greatly appreciated.
Use SUSE! Should work just fine.
USe another computer if it doesn't work
and yes try http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...etailed/updateservice/xperia-play?cc=gb&lc=en
Before asking for help
i have narrowed it down to the computer not recognising the phone when it is off(blue light mode) i looked at device manager, says there is no driver for S1boot fastboot?
driver are on program files > sony ericsson > pc companion > driver 32/64bit
check there and install them manually
or check the pc companion in sony ericsson menu on your phone and connect your phone and press install
then install pc companion and let it do his work installing the driver.
check my mtpapp thread if you need more detail
don't clear mtpapp (your apps should be ok btw)
Tried everything now, still nothing happens after i plug in usb cable whilst holding the back button, what is actually supposed to happen after this point, i get the blue light, nothing else.

When the light goes blue, you are connected in either bootloader or recovery mode. If your device is not detected, go to device manager and install the drivers manually
Sorry double post
Are you connecting the phone via a USB hub?
If you have many usb ports on your pc being used, try to disconnect a few and plug the phone directly to your pc.
I had this same issue and it happened because my stupid logitech keyboard keeps messing with my usb drivers everytime i plug in a new USB device.
I unplugged the keyboard and the update went swiftly.
In order to enter flash mode, you ought to:
1)switch off the phone
2)remove the SIM card and sdcard (this is mandatory!),
3)remove the battery for 5 seconds, then put it on.
4)hold the Back button while you connect the device.
The device will shine with a green light. The blue light is used for the Fastboot mode, and you get that light if you:
1) Switch off the device
2) Hold the Search button (the magnifying glass one)
3) connect the device to the USB cable.
Hi all, thanks for your help but still no luck, i have tried all of the above on 2 computers, the same problem occurs, not sure what is supposed to happen when i plug the USB into the phone whilst holding the back button during update? all i get is a blue light on the phones power button. Nothing appears on the pc either??? i have done a full factory reset and tried installing drivers, is there a specific driver for entering the recovery mode on xperia play?
Sony Update Issues
http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
Note: We have seen in some forums that customers unlocking the boot loader on their phones have experienced problems when they accept a FOTA (Firmware upgrade Over The Air) update. The issue has been reproduced and we are working on a solution. For customers that have unlocked the boot loader please do not accept the Firmware upgrade OTA.
I plug my phone into the laptop, it says it's connected via USB, so I enable mass storage, the laptop says theres an error would I like to scan and fix? I say yes, then after about 30 seconds, with no warning, without me touching the phone, it disconnects from the laptop, but it still knows its connected, it's just as if it disables mass storage. If I don't select scan and fix it still happens. Might connect the SD Card via adapter and see if it does it?
Anyone?
R800i, CM7 beta 011.
my phone did the same thing the first day i got it all i did was took the battery out and put it back in and it never happen again
Already tried that. Gutted it didn't fix it.

Do you have a cheap SD card? When I connect and try opening the drive from the windows explorer it says connect the drive. I have to use the SE software to open it.

No, I've been using the SD Card that came with it, it's been working perfectly. I let the phone fall about a foot onto carpet and that's when the problems started happening. I'm going to connect it via a SD Card Reader and see what happens.
Also, after flashing CM7 and reverting to normal rom it no longer gives me the option of connecting the SD card when connected via USB. The option doesn't appear.
How do I get back to a pure stock phone after CM7, could someone please give me detailed instructions, and btw, I'm having problems getting flashtool to connect to my phone for some reason.

No need for detailed instructions.
Just use the official SE Tool. Can be found here -
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...ds/subject/updateservice/1.915711?cc=gb&lc=en
This will give you a direct stock unrooted phone running 2.3.3 with all bloatware and crap installed too. Just like you would find straight out the box.

No you cannot, it will brick it!! Either use blagus' bootloader relock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334&page=2 then use SEUS to reintsall fresh.
If you dont want to relock the bootloader just flash the standard 2.3.3 (here) or the rooted img (here) and click the clear user data box when using flashtools and it will do the same job as SEUS. You say flashtools is not working are you connecting it wrong? Turn the phone off then hold the back key and plug in the usb when flashtools asks and the power button should turn green)
Also you mentioned "it no longer gives me the option of connecting the SD card when connected via USB" dunno if its this. But if the usb conection mode (setting>sony ericsson>conectivity>usb conection mode) is set to Media transfer mode (MTP) it wont ask you to connect the sd but if its set to mass storage mode (MSC) it asks for you to connect sd.

I fixed the problem anyways, when I dropped my phone it kinda screwed up my SD card, so I plugged it directly into my laptop and ran Microsoft's scan and fix tool. All working well now.
Also, How can I get flashtool working? It doesn't work for me at ALL. I've been trying the 2.9.1 beta (think that's the version).
Anyways, it says searching for xperia, please connect your device in flash mode, all the time, and never recognises my phone. I dunno why, but it's driving me mad :-(

I think i know the answer for this one.
You need to install the drivers that come with the flashtool.
They should be in the drivers folder.
Let me know if it worked !
oh serious??!!?!
take many tries for get uk firmware on my rogers xperia play... Will install drivers next time....

I've installed the ggsetup ones, there are 3 rars in there too, but theyre all for the x8 or x10. I've a play, what do I do? I went to reinstall ggsetup and it said it's already installed...
you need to hold back bouton before you connect it
yeah, found out there a few minutes ago, thought the back button was used on the x8 like search is on ours to enter fastboot
Ah ah ^^ have fun on 2.3.3 rooted
I didn't need to put the drivers in the folder. At first it didn't find them but after a while it found the ones from the SE software that the phone installs.
Yeah same. Reverted BK to stock rom from cm7 but got the SD card unmount error. Tried flashing stock kernel but still got the error. Back to cm7 now.

Did this just happend or did you do something to your phone, like trying a kernel or rom?
Is it on stock android with locked bootloader? you have root? Tell us.
Have you tried a different PC?
the phone was in safe mode and tried to upgrade to android 4.0 on companion.

IC, if you try to upgrade to ICS and its corrupted somehow while on PCC you will brick it for sure.
Maybe try to reinstall SEUS, PCC and drivers from flashtools again and start all over?
Reinstall pc companion and repair it

Judging by "...and nothing happens when i press and hold the back key and insert the USB cable" it seems that your PC is not recognising your phone in flash mode. Yes, it can happen, and it happened to me many times on fresh XP installation. What I do in that case, is booting XP in safe mode, and then connecting the phone in flash mode (without SEUS or PCC or Flashtool activated), and letting the system recognise device and install drivers needed for flash mode.
When drivers are installed, I can reboot system in normal mode, and that's it. Every next time I connect phone in flash mode, it is recognised with no problems.
But as you already said that you tried booting in safe mode, I'm out of ideas. Maybe, just maybe, try to uninstall and reinstall everything, and then boot your system in safe mode, and then (without running any program) connect your phone (in flash mode) and wait untill drivers are installed.
Hello everybody, I own an Xperia XC and a couple of months ago I’ve rooted it and I flashed 34.1.A.1.198 firmware, Advanced Stock Kernel and TWRP-recovery. All worked fine, until two weeks ago it lost suddenly the USB connectivity. I tried different USB-cables on different PC’s but neither the phone, nor the PC’s act in any way. Even in fastboot- or flashmode it doesn’t appear in the device manager of the PC’s. I made for a couple of times factory reset, I even changed the phone’s USB charging port with a new one, but nothing changed. I could load the phone only over a power strip with USB-power-supply. I tried to flash the firmware 34.1.A.1.198 again using flashfire (I made a pre-rooted .zip-file with PRFCreator) but now I get a boot-loop. The phone starts till Sony-Logo and after a few seconds it turns off and boots again. Trying to get in recovery mode has no effect (pressing volume up or down and Power-button).
Has anyone any idea, how can I solve this problem? Is there any possibility to make a hard reset without USB-connection?
man why did mess with your phone when you knew you cant use usb connection???
try this: press all buttons and hold them to turn the phone off then try to get access to twrp(or any recovery on your phone) then use a usb type-c flash memory with your phone to flash another zip and hopefully just bring the phone back to life

Thanks for your ansver Kianush, but it seems the phone can't handle any connected devices at the USB-port. Besides of that, when I try to connect it in flash- or fastboot mode, the LED goes green or respectively blue, but none of my PC's doesen't recognize it as a connected device in any way.
I tested the PC connection with an other Xperia XC (my daughter's), it worked without any problems. It was shown in the dewice manager as an "SOMC Flash Device".
It seems like some USB-kernel drivers are lost (?)
I think an option could be using s1tool, but I don't find something for Xperia XC and I don't know yet where the testpoint is for this phone.
Hello all,
i have big problem with my x compact phone.
I used the amazon music app suddenly the phone was freezed. So i restarted it. After that the phone was in a boot loop. Message:"Your phone is corrupt...".
This wasn´t stopable even with hard reset (power+volume up). So tried my luck with a software repair using xperia companion. Nearly at the end of the process it stopped with the message "failed please try again.." . After that the phone wasn´t able to get in flash mode (blue light). The pc doesn´t recognize it. Windows says usb failure. From time to time the red light is blinking when i connect it to the charger thats all. No other response.
Is there a chance to repair it? Please help me.
If fastboot mode isn't available, your only option is to get the phone in 'service mode':
- turn phone off
- hold <volume down> button
- while holding <volume down> button, connect usb cable to pc and phone (led should turn green).
In this mode you can try to flash the phone with Emma:
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/flash-tool-for-xperia-devices/
or alternatively FlashTool:
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
If you can't get into 'service mode', check on another pc with another usb cable (and make sure you install the usb drivers correctly). If that also doesn't get you into 'service mode' the phone is destined for RMA.
Thank you. But can´t get into service mode. When i try the led blinks red.
I´m not sure if the drivers are correctly installed. When i download them from sony, i installed them as legacy hardware but it have the status "not working".
How can i install them?
I think even without drivers installed the phone should go into service mode if you follow the aforementioned steps (only then it shows up in Windows device manager as an unknown device), so that sounds bad. You should try with another pc and another usb (data)cable.
I don't use Windows myself so I can't help you with driver installation, but I gather if Sony provides drivers it should be an easy 1-click installation. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

By installing Xperia Companion on your PC or Mac you should have any drivers that might be needed. So if you cannot successfully connect to your computer in any mode, then it seems likely that you'll have to send it in for repair. Edit: But do try another cable first, as was suggested.
