EE03 modem on SRF 1.1.0 - Epic 4G General

Restored from EE03 back to SRF. I remember why my phone doesn't stay stock long. Anyways EE03 modem works fine in FROYO

It actually vastly improves performance of 3g

I'm going to guess ROM, because I'm on SRF 1.1.0 with ee03 modem and my range seems the same. Also, for the first time (ever? at least in recent memory) I can turn my wifi off and then later back on again without the accursed "error" I used to always get. So my current opinion is that wifi in ee03 modem is at least somewhat superior to the last several modem versions we've had.

Decided to stay on SRF 1.1.1 for now, but did ODIN the ee03 modem since the buzz was it was an improvement. So far I've noticed no difference, to actually I think a slight decline in 3g signal. Stayed home sick today however so I need to really get out and around to get more of a feel...generally have pretty great 4g signal here in the Twin Cities metro anyway...

I think my phone likes ee03 I'm gonna stick with it my battery seems fine and in app lag has improved overall despite a lot of choppyness present everywhere. I odin'd the ec05 modem back though wifi seems to have improved a bit. No gps or fm radio unfortunately. Anyone know if impalers keyboard fix works on ee03?

can anyone link the .tar for ec05 modem. I wanna have just in case I dont like ee03.

Ya i had upgraded to the new swiss cheese gingerbread leak and installed the EE03 modem. I couldn't get gps and the 3G wouldn't turn on. I thought it was the modem that was the problem but i just restored back to SRF 1.1.0 and everything works fine with the EE03 now. GPS locked fast and no problems at all.

This belongs in the general section
My first impressions:
Better battery life
GPS is even a slightly bit better
3G seems to stay locked on a bit more, though not as well as it should be. BUT, I have seen it get stuck in 1X mode, which DJ05 didn't seem to.
Anyone else have specific questions ????
z4root doesn't work with it.
Gps now works for me

Might want to get it checked out. Sounds like it.
I have been using DL09 this morning and have not been impressed. Signal seems sketchy compared to DJ05 with the 3g fix. I used the 3g fix with DL09 and still nothing to write home about. Later I will switch back to DJ05 until aosp is straightened out or froyo hits. DJ05 and superclean with otb voodoo is a nice ride.

Sorry, but what 3g fix are you referring to? I want a 3g fix lol
Is there a way to root DL09?
I have DJ05 and I dont have any signal problems at all.
In fact I just went out to our property that I hunt on (it's in the boonies) and got better signal strength that I did with my BB Storm.
So I dont see where Dl09 would be an improvement?
Also, GPS usually locks in 2-6 secs inside!

Instabilty in ef02 modem..

Please upgrade your modem to ef10 because it hard crash your modem and you will not be able to revive it till you odin a new modem
The instablity in the change-off code when it switch to call only and 3g, mostly when you switch to wifi on or off.
For user using the ef02 modem.
When it happens modem hard crashes telling phone to shutdown and it create a log telling what happened & it null the request for boot the radio, only way you can clear that data is to reset the nvram by simply odining
What happen when you flash a modem: it flashes the same modem then it set up & reset the nvram parameter.
Doesn't happen to me.

You have been using it for a day..
I personally had issues with the EF10 modem, and none with EF02. Haven't noticed the same issues you mentioned. EF10 killed my GPS (clearing AGPS didn't help, but I didn't try ##RTN/reprogram though.) and a few other modem issues (airave connection not allowing SMS, etc.)
However, if someone is having trouble initiating OTA update from EF02 to EF10, (maybe you are already rooted, or received the "internal error", etc.) then I (or any informed tech at Sprint) can force the FOTA, but only if you have EF02 now.
So, either PM me your wireless number, or call your favorite tech (random techs will likely be unprepared) to see if they can do it. I work tomorrow (Sunday) and will send FOTA requests when I get there. (Around 11AM MST)

That is exactly whats happening to me After a few wifi on and off.
I'm just scared to upgrade to ef10 and have issues like other people
Out of all day, I used 4g 5 times and switched on and off from wifi about 6 times from there it switched to call only no 3g a simple reboot fixed it other than that upload/download speeds for 4g,3g,wifi are normal

With the Vision kernel It took some people only a few weeks to brick their devices. Some it took months. And some are still running it fine. Just because it can happen doesn't mean it will. It's just a safety measure and good practice to be on the most stable thing.

That's interesting, I encountered the 3g no data bug on ef10 and toggled airplane mode as you did to get working data; reminiscent of ee03 modem issue. So I reverted back to ef02 and 3g data has been rock solid for me. Not saying Noobnl is wrong as he did look at the ril and he did warn us that Sprintsung still hasn't ironed out the kinks on that end thus far.
noobnl, I've been testing both and I found that it's EF10 that seems to have problems switching states for me. Certain ones would get locked in and not deactivate. EF02 has them hopping back and forth with no issue. GPS is way more responsive on EF02 as well. Can you elaborate more on the problem with 02?
EF02 is the best modem...PERIOD. Unless something crazy starts up soon (which I doubt, but IS possible).
Thanks been running ef10 with no trouble 3g,wifi,and GPS all work great.
I just encountered a gps bug in ef02 and on ef10. No gps icon or signal, even after a reboot.

I've had nothing but success with the Ef02 modem. It has been the best one I have used since DK28. I haven't had a chance to update to EF10, cause I dontwant to flash all the way back to stock and flash EF10 when EF02 works better than the last 2 releases for me. Once a flashable modem for EF10 is released, then I think you will see more people using it.

[Q] Updating from DK28

I like many downloaded and ran the DK28 froyo upgrade when it came out only for official releases to come out later down the line.
I stood with DK28 until now because for the most part it worked really well. Ten, I started encountering random problems from the phone never calling out successfully on the first attempt to the wifi refusing to turn on unless I turned the phone off then back on.
I have gotten tired of these problems as well as sluggish performance. I wanted to update to the last official build. Are we on EC05?
What is the easiest way to do this? I am not rooted. I have never used Odin or the samsung updater. I am not that tech savvy on my own but can easily follow well explained steps.
I appreciate any help. Thank you.

I simply ran it as an update.zip and it was like receiving a pseudo OTA. I never rooted because I never had a reason to. I am tempted to root now so that I can create a backup of apps and maybe some texts.
Since I am not rooted, could I simply run EC05 as another update.zip file or will this simply not work.
It would be easier to follow this

Got a refurb Epic on EL30 - LOVING IT!

Okay, I had to buy a refurb Epic and EL30 is snappy. For example, the applications populate instantly when I choose Manage Applications. GPS actually works too. It's very polished and refined. This will definitely hold me over until the SGS3 releases later this year.
Fyi- I paid $162 from Ebay. The phone looks absolutely brand new.
I thought so too. But then I started missing all of the goodies from CM7.
