I flashed Evil D's Virtuous Gingerbread Sense 3.0 ROM, and after a while I noticed that my 3G was very unreliable and my 4G never worked (at least the icon never showed).
I then recovered back to my CM7 backup, but the problem was still there. My 3G almost never worked and my 4G didn't show up. So then I wiped again and installed a clean CM7, and still no luck.
I have never flashed a new radio, and my data was working fine before installing the Sense 3.0 ROM. I'm not sure what the problem is. Now my 3G seems to be working fine, but it never goes to 4G anymore.
Oh man I'm not losing it!!! Same thing happened to me. Atleast it sounds the same. Even when I went back to royalginger the problem existed. I had the old radio and so I flashed the new radio and the problem immediately went away.
Just check the Dev section stickies for the radio sticky. And download the latest one. It should already be named PD15IMG.zip but rename it if its not. Then mount phone to computer and put that file on the root of your SD. Then turn off your phone and then boot into the bootloader by holding volume down + power. It will boot up and automatically read that file on your SD and ask if you want to update. Just follow the steps and then reboot your phone once its done. It worked for me, hopefully it works for you!

So you tried that Sense 3.0 ROM and the same thing happened to you??
So does that mean that flashing/wiping does not clear everything? And does the Sense 3.0 ROM have a modified radio?
And I will flash that radio and give an update. Thanks!
I guess people do not read.

I'm not blaming the ROM, I just wanted to give all the details so I could be helped.
And since I wiped and went back to CM7 and the problem still persisted, it couldn't be that I just didn't update the radio in Sense 3.0

If sense 3.0 messed up the Radio file, the problem will follow even after you switch ROMs. The radio file isn't a member of the ROM.
You should be able to flash a new Radio file and bring it back up to speed.
I had something similar happen to me and my wife when i put S3.0 on our phones. I flashed the newest radio and have not looked back.

Alright, thanks for the input.. But... It doesn't say you won't have 3G or 4G if you don't update your radio, and it doesn't say that Sense 3.0 will mess up your radio. So how are we supposed to know that one line about performance after mention of a Boot.img is Evil telling us all that not updating our radio will eff up our data? Its not like the OP or I blatantly overlooked something obvious, right?
Either way I'm glad updating radio helped me, and I'm glad it helped this guy. Sorry if this "clutter" bugs you, neid.

Actually it is in the [OP] of Sense 3.0.
it doesn't bother me. We are hear to help each other out to make the Android experience a top notch one. But When the lack of reading happens threads like this one pop up. People see that ROM _________ got updated from 1.a to 1.b and they instantaneously think "OMGWFTFBBQ I NEED THIS ROM" and they do not read the update log. That's all. Alot of the senor members preach "read read read read" and very few do it. That's all.
And the reason i come off as being brass is pretty simple. I [we] can hold your [anyones] hand and lead you down the path to your end result. But if you do a little of the work and kinda get pushed down the path, you [people in general] will remember more.
I read the entire thread probably twice before flashing sense because it was the only rom I had ever tried besides CM. It says to update the radio and that may have been the problem, but the problem persisted even after wiping and putting a new rom. If the problem only happened while using sense, then I would know that maybe I forgot to do something, but since it continued even after reverting back to CM, I thought maybe something else was wrong. I started to think that it was coincidence and my phone's radio hardware was malfunctioning.

I know, I know, you reading this thread are very disappointed of me, a noob, for asking this since a billion other of my fellow noobs already asked this. I just wanted to know what is the best rom out there today for the T-Mobile Mytouch 3g 1.2 (w/3.5mm). I have recently moved over from the HTC Touch Viva forum and I am amazed by all the development going on, considering the amount of people here compared to there. I have installed Amon_Ra's recovery and flashed a rom but didn't quite like it due to the Google apps always force closing (I think most people were having the problem with the rom) so I restored the backup. The only thing done to the phone is that I rooted it and installed the recovery. Thank You very much if you decided to point me in the right direction, and if you didn't, have a nice day.
Don't hate on me just because I'm a noob! I'm 16 and android modding is way more confusing than WM6.5/6.1, haha.
The best in my opinion is the one linked in my sig. The slide rom. it has everything you could want from dounut and a hero type rom. The reasons for all the google apps FC is because you have either not done a full wipe before flashing the rom, or may not have your sd card partitioned in 3 partitions.
Download, put on sd card, flash, Let it sit for about 15 min, it will take a long time to boot the first time.
That's probably why it FC so many times. I didn't do a full wipe nor did I have the SD card partitioned.
Do all ROMs require a partition of the SD card? How would I go about partitioning it?
I'll search around for it later. I have a math final to study for!
Can't go wrong with Cyanogen's Eclair ROM. No partitions required.

Thanks for pointing this rom out, I really like it so far (just loaded it, loading my backup of my microsd on).
Looks very nice, runs very smooth and everything is supposed to work accept bluetooth so thats great. Hopefully it doesn't slow down once I load up my apps and this will replace CM as my daily driver until the hacked 2.2 comes out for MT3G 1.2

Thank you all for the input. I've downloaded SuperE a few days ago and it was the best ROM yet, everything works to the best of my knowledge. It's fast, smooth, and everything I would want from a non-official ROM. It actually feels like an official update from using it. I did have some random force closes, but it doesn't lower the overall score of the ROM. Eleven out of ten in my book!
The only thing left is a keyboard. I'm using the stock android one, but the keys are too small and make the input experience ****ty.

Don't you just need a different kernel for 32A?
I have no idea. BUT I have successfully booted cyanogen-mod 5-ds which DOES say is compatible with 1.2.. and it's an EXCELLENT rom.
Super E and CM 508 are already compatible with mt3g 1.2... dont need the 32a port
Any cyan based rom or rom using his kernel should be compatible with the 1.2 i suggest kolohes speedteam rom.

First i want to say thanks to all the developers that got involved to make this possible. Their hard work and sleepless nights are greatly appreciated.
I tried so many combinations of ROM's and Radio's that i gave up and nearly lost hope until a friend of mine at work found the perfect combination of Windows Mobile and Android to load on the US Tmobile HD2. Maybe i should buy him lunch tomorrow .
I think many are experiencing the issues i had, soooo.... I wanted to share this information and show you all little lost sheep out there how to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.
If you want to start from scratch, meaning from the factory ROM on the phone, then do what i did and follow the instructions below in the same order i performed them. If you are savvy enough to follow along without starting from a stock ROM, then more power to you. These steps are for the dummies like me who are out there and cant follow instructions.
Again this is for the US-TMobile HD2's. I dont know that this will work for the EU HD2's. Try at your own risk.
Step 1
Install the TMO Stock ROM. Click Here
Step 2
Root your TMO Stock ROM by installing 2.08.HardSPL. Click Here
Step 3
Install Energy's "Stardard-Energy" ROM located on the US TMO forum but for your convenience.... Click Here
Step 4
Install Radio version 2.12.50.02.2. Click Here
Step 5
Copy shubCRAFT's "Android" folder to the root of your SD Card. Click Here
- (I edited the startup file to prevent the "cant access tty; job control turned off " error message, therefore this install should be plug and play.
- When the copy is complete, place the SD CARD back in your phone if not already, and run clrcad & haret from the Storage card.
- You can also use the auto boot loader .cab file on your WM rom to autoload Android. Click Here
Updated: 8/7/10
For those of you who are having issues and don't know how to modify the startup.txt file. Here is a copy of the startup.txt file without the "loop_partition=mmcblk0" command line. Click Here
Just copy the file to the Android folder and overwrite the existing one and you should be all set.
Step 6
Here is a new 1GB userdata.img download link. Click Here
The old one was giving issues with texting. If you guys want a bigger userdata file let me know. This will also fix any download issues from the Market and prevent low disk space errors when attempting to install an application from the SD card.
Update: 8/7/10
Here is a 4GB userdata.img for the ones that wanted a bigger file. Click Here
I'll have to try this. Keep having the static/echo problem no matter what radio I use. Currently I'm running ChuckyROMS and dan1j3l's Froyo build. Got one more radio to try and if that doesn't work, oh well, I'll try this combo.
As far as I remember I am using ChuckyDroid and Radio 12_50.2 and matt latest version and no echo/sod since yesterday and got about 20 hours out of battery life. Must mention I use the phone "alot" so my battery drains accordingly

Working perfectly, no robotic voice
the new zimage is what kills the echo, nothing magical about it.
Frustrating!
Even with the new zimage, clean SD, I still get robo-voice. I refuse to clean out my stock TMOUS ROM / radio though...there has to be a fix that doesn't require me to do HSPL....(i own a mac...is there an easy way to do HSPL on a mac?)

U don'nt have to HSPL again to install the Radio, and neither will u lose any data, so just go ahead if an new radio will help resolving the robo-voise
Does flashing the stock tmo rom first really make a difference? I've flashed like crazy to get the best combo but haven't had the stock rom since I first flashed.
No matter what I do I'm still getting massive background noise (mic gain?) downloading energy + shubcraft now, let's see if this does it!
I can't say its perfect... it seems clear... just very low volume.. I do love how well this is all coming along!! what 2 weeks and it almost totally usable ?!?!

Its not the rom but the audio driver that the rom uses. Look for robotic sound problem thread in this section for the files.

You know guys, I really gotta say this. I think its really mestup that when you try to download the "Standard-Energy Rom" they give you the option to either pay them for a fast download or suffer through their agravating super slow download that they intentionally made that way for who ever doesnt wanna pay up.
I noticed the "Affiliate Program" they have which for those of you who dont know, it just means that every time someone goes and pays for the "super fast download", there is someone behind the scene getting paid for making you pay. That someone is usually the one who provides the link to that website.
Why am I exposing this? because who ever is doing this should at least have the curtesy to let us know it is NOT free to download and HE will make money when you choose to pay, not just thinking he's fooling people to a comission- which he is.
The last time I tried downloading for free, it took 2 1/2 hours and at the end I got a little "Error" message saying there was a problem downloading and the download could not be completed. - .. as expected for not paying up right?
How do I know this, because I AM an "Affiliate Marketer". I know how this stuff works, but I dont work this way.
has anyone realized this is a emulator .....lmao

Yeah you got it, thats the only "magical" thing. With the last Radio all Echos are gone and the Bad Backround noises too.
No one must try diff ROM and Radios anymore.
I use the Original 1.66 Stock ROM and Darkstones Desire v5 (my absolute favorit) and with the latest zimage the last Soundproblems are solved.
I only wait for GPS works in the v5, coz than it is the perfect build.
Thank you for this post! Very helpful

not sure how far along you are with your G1.. i assume its rooted haha but the best sense rom i've used to date would have to be zachattack052 & xillius200's 2.1&1.5HERO: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670414
but with this rom you need to have the latest radio and hboot: 2.22.28.25, 1.33.0013d. this rom has most of the latest features and all those sense widgets we all love so much. If anyone knows of a better rom i would love to try it but as of now thats the best i know of. also if you need help flashing it DO ask questions before trying something you are unsure of.. because there's always that possibility of bricking your beloved G1. and we dont want that now do we..? haha feel free to ask me anything you need..

ok so I have been reading and what not... I have searched far and wide but still don't quite understand. But anyways here's my question.
Pros and cons of going to the other hboot?
Is there any reason to change my radio version? Will it benefit me at all?
is this idea of the way the phone works kind correct?
The phone starts up, hboot will load up the os files (which is my royalginger rom I installed)
So changing the hboot ver is like changing your BIOS ver on a computer motherboard.
now, what kind of tech is actually in this phone... A proc, graphics proc, memory, some storage space. Can any of these parts be modified, upgraded, or even touched? Or is it all permanently on the phones main chip.
And the last question. I know its possible to overclock phones.. But what is the best way to do it? Like, on my computer I never oc using software, always do it through the bios. But what's the best way on the glacier?
Thanks for answering any of these ?s... It'll all help me better understand my phone and how it works and I would like to learn this stuff well so I can help people out on this forum someday soon
To overclock:
1. Flash overclock kernal.
2. Install setcpu from market.
3. Go crazy.
4. You didn't search far and wide enough.

the .85 hboot will allow you to flash any part of a ROM, wipe any partition on the phone, and install recovery images from the Engineering scree. It helps you to not brick your phone. There have been a couple of people on this forum that would of bricked their device if they didn't have it.

IIRC the HBoot would be similar to a BIOS. It physically loads the OS. However i've never changed a BIOS on a Windows Computer so i cannot tell you.

It's all soldered into the main board and cannot be tampered with unless you feel like soldering, writing a kernel and a new OS.

The best way to over clock a ROM is to download and install a kernel. You will need a program similar to SetCPU to manage the speed. If you should download Cyanogen(mod)'s CM7.x it will have a overclocking kernel natively.

well as far as the radio goes, some people (such as myself) have reported a better signal by flashing the newer radio, i noticed between 1-2 bar increase within the same spot in my room

With the caveat that, not always but often, better a radio with better signal will come at the expense of battery life.
screw up your bios and you pull the cmos battery, unplug the power supply and you're fine. screw up the radio or hboot and you have nothing to fall back on. A phone is a lot like a pc, without all of the fallback and replaceable parts.
I've been using the engineering radio for a few weeks now, no complaints, was worth the simple flash.
1. ok so to overclock I flash an overclock kernel. Can I flash in a new kernel without changing to a different rom (as in can I keep my royalginger thing I flashed in)
2. By installing the engineering hboot I can change any part of the rom. Does this mean I can do the above? Change my kernel without changing the whole rom?
3. A newer radio has the potential to increase my signal?
4. I've been searching for a while and still can't figure out the difference between an asop, sense, etc types of roms?
You guys are an amazing help... Thank you so much

YES. You need to make sure that you use a AOSP ROM kernel or a Sense Kernel. I'm not 100% sure about Royal Ginger. I believe it's AOSP but you'll want to double check

Yes. But you can flash kernels w/o needing the E-hBoot. You can flash them from the recovery. and not they will not mess with anything.

AOSP = Android Open Source Project. Look at the G2 for an idea. Cyanogen has AOSP style UI, but they throw some extra options in.
Sense = HTC Skin. It's what the Droid Inc, Desire, come with
MotoBlur = Motorola's Skin all of the Moto Droid line & the Cliq come with
Espresso / MySense = T-Mobile's custom Skin for the MyTouch 4G
thanks man. That helped a lot. One last question? By check what it is do you mean look up on the internet or on my phone

Kernels are based on the style of skin that you are using. We uses either Sense or AOSP. You need to know what type of ROM you are using, and flash the correct kernel. Meaning you cannot use a AOSP kernel on a Sense ROM. So make sure you know what RoyalGinger is prior to digging though Kernels.
Is there a way to confirm or verify if I have engineering boot installed?

Because it will allow you flash, wipe, or load specific sections of your ROM or allow you to reflash recovery images if one should fail. most people will never encounter this but it's a good failsafe to have on your phone.

So if i ever have an issue like some people are having where recovery says something like "cannot mount cache" causing the flashing to not work, I can fix that through the eng hboot?

faux's kernels clearing state which rom they will work for, so pick a rom, then pick a kernel if you want, overclocking isnt really necessary on our phones since its plenty fast already
btw royalginger is based on cm7 which is based on aosp

i assume it would depend on the exact reason why it stop reading the cache partition. I do know i've see a few threads where people flashed a different recovery image and was able to re flash a ROM and getting it work. But then again it'd all depend on why it failed.

Hi everyone,
I recently flashed cyanogenmod 7.2 onto my HTC Wildfire and it kept restarting for an odd reason, I restored back to SplashMOD and it still has the same problem. I've turned 3G off and it seems to be fine, its just when I turn 3G on
Any help?

It says my phone needs to be GSM (I'm guessing that means unlocked) which my phone isn't. What is a good radio to flash? and do i need to do it before i flash a rom?
GSM means that it's a standard phone that works in any country. ie: it's not CDMA, which mean that it doesn't need special frequencies from the service provider.

like lo2ay already said GSM ("Global System for Mobile Communications") doesn''t mean "unlocked" and has nothing to do wih it.
But in case you didn't unlock your phone - and I'm not getting you totally wrong - this brings up a much more interesting question: if you don't have an unlocked Wildfire - how the hell have you been able to flash a ROM anyway? I'd guess one of the following might match your situation:
- you have a different phone (not a HTC Wildfire)
- you just thought you're going to flash a ROM but did something else instead
- your Wildfire is unlocked and you don't know it
Are you really serious about what you've done? What tutorial/how to did you use to flash Cyanogen Mod?
And yes: if your phone is a Wildfire (buzz) and not unlocked/rooted you can't flash a new radio because you can't flash anything custom...
I think he was meaning sim unlocked?

oh yes - I've been thinking about that for a few seconds - you're probably right.
Regarding my own little problem which I've also discussed a bit desperately here: may I ask you what you would try next with all your Wildfire experience? (I've never been really convinced that the V6 Supercharger or 3G Turbocharger scripts could be involved but after reading that a few people got that bootloop prob with 3G after messing around with them it looked so obvious).
I feared to investigate any further because I had the feeling it could cost a lot of time... so when I went on to solve the problem it turned out I was right with that: I've flashed the 7.2 stable today - with doing just a dalvik and system wipe without success and then a complete wipe - no success either.
I fear to revert back to a true stock rom (including s-off again) as it took me a lot of sweat to do that initially (that has been just in the middle of transformation from revolutionary to alpha rev with all the goldcard stuff etc.) - too make it short: what would you do?
Thx in advance for some input on this...
I would first check my mtd size settings! If you dont know what custom mtds are it means your not using them,if you are using them then you must remember to flash the bravo boot file straight after your rom flash before booting! If this is not your issue then i would do a clean flash of a rom. I.e wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, go into mount and storage and do all available wipes NOT sdcard, then flash the rom. If all fails then i would 1st try a reflash of a custom recovery and repeat previous clean rom flash. Now if it still didnt play ball i would scream at it, throw it at a wall then regret that step and move on to ruu.exe and start afresh lol.
On the v6 etc etc issue. Ive publicly said many times how much i hate this script and others like it! But this is only my opinion as i have had issues using them too in the early days. An app i use still to this day which gives you complete control over the effects of these scripts is autokiller memory optimizer. I will link to a thread i made some time ago to explain this app which can be found on the market.
This again can and most likely will be argued or debated as to its function but in my experience its a must have when used correct.

Sorry i only just noticed your link so my advice was for current op issue. However yes i believe these scripts are the cause im afraid. Still i would give you the same advice again as above or try a clean sense rom flash.
You can get safe ruu flashable zips too so as not to lose security or root so try these before going the exe route.
Hope you get a fix.

However, I'll try a sense ROM now and the "safe" RUU afterwards - cross fingers...

Now it's getting really weird... I've just put in a different SIM (out of the family) - different carrier. (the idea came to my mind somehow). Looks like the phone doesn't reboot with that.
If that's true and not by accident - what does that mean now? Usually I'd think about the radio - but I've completely wiped the phone (including a sense install in between) - could this be a hardware problem?
I guess I'll do the RUU thingy anyway. So I'll start to gather information on that.
If anyone has a good suggestion to do that as easy and quick as possible - I'd appreciate any suggestions.
--- EDIT ---
If someone has a suggestion for a small Sense ROM (yeah I know) I'd prefer to do that first...
