WHen i attempt to transfer files to my Wizard it freezes. The file size is 300mb to my 1GB SD card. It is a movie and whenever I try to copy it from my PC to the phone via USB it freezes.
I have only been able to transfer small .cab files and .mp3s....
What can I do to fix this besides buying a separate reader?
Do you have a SD card slot on your PC? Or a Card reader device? Try to take out the MINI SD, plug it in to its SD card adapter (if you have it) and copy it directly on to the card. Then place back the MINI SD card in the device.
It is quite difficult to say if it is your USB connection or active sync, your PC or something else ...
In case you do not have a card reader:
Maybe you have WLAN? Try to copy it via wifi then ...
Yep,
lots of choices, lots of possibilities - and lots of things which can go wrong!
how would i go about copying it via wifi?
Quite hard to explain if I do not know what hardware you have (such as wireless home network, router, accesspoint) and if you have experiences in setting up wireless connections (infrastructure if router / ap exists - ad-hook if not).
In case you do not have any experiences it would be too difficult to explain anyway. You might want to check your USB? What ActiveSync version are you using? What Windows version ...
You see: there are a lot of components and information needed in order to help you one way or another! Never forget: people who are trying to help on here know only as much about your problem as you post ...

Heh i have wifi all setup I have verizon fios. I can connect via my phone to the network thought maybe i had to do a certain procedure. What i did though was upload it to my ftp then connect from my phone and transfer it like that. While it was time consuming ti worked at least.
Activesync version 4.5, windows xp. I'm probably just going to give in and go buy a sd card reader tomorrow.
After installing Miri's rom 6.5.x my HD2 started crashing every time I connect it to the PC whether it is on ActiveSync or DiskDrive mode. It sometimes crashes right after I connect it , but most times after I disconnect it. I have installed Steve007 and SUperboy007 Elegance theme , Midomi , ManilaBirthday , Klaxon , NetRipper's KeypadLedControl , CorePlayer 1.3.6, AppToDate, JWMD Icon Changer, TouchPal, cleanRAM, TorchButton, Chainfire HD2 3D Driver Patch, Mosko.Mobi FIM , Jaguaralani HD2 Action Screen , SRS WOWHD , Resco Explorer and Resco Photo Manager , Xtask , SPB Backup and BSB Tweaks 1.6.
Could you please tell me what is wrong ?
I did hard reset after I flashed the rom.
Anybody?
your whole device or just audio manager?
dont know if this is of interest to you:

My problem is different. My whole device crashes and needs a soft reset after I disconnect it from the PC
Have you installed any of those to the storage card? Because the storage card is not available to the phone when you connect in file mode, though it should be ok in active sync mode. Most of those things should not be installed on storage card anyway.
Also, when you connect the phone it seems to me that it starts to prepare the pre-selected option right away, so if the last time you connected in file mode, this connection will be opened as soon as you connect, and if you change to another connection, the first connection is dropped and the other opened. To avoid this you could go into the usb settings and change connection mode before inserting the usb cable.

I've found my HD2 the same problem. As most of my apps were installed on SD card, when I connect the phone to PC, it's OK until I run an app that was installed on card while the phone remains connected to PC. Afterward, the phone freezes without any word.
Just a piece of my own experience...
Are there any new hints on this item?
My HD2 also freezes, as soon as I disconnect from USB, using hard disk mode. (When using USB to ActiveSync, there are no freezes).
this used to happen to me 2 months ago, but i cant rememeber what was eactly the reason, it may have been 'a theme, task manager or as i rememeber i suspected G profile '...
nothing of these is installed on my device (beside the OEM task manager).
Thanks anyway!
Just try to give it some time. Due to the fact that windows as well as several programs use some kinda autoplay options when external storage device are connected it may take some time until you can use your device. Mine freezes for seconds to one or two minutes until it can be used.
I remember when I made a rom and it didn't include a few oems in my kitchen, it caused freezing when I tried to access the sd card when connected to the computer
have you flashed a new rom to see if the rom isn't the problem?
I only flashed the new official Vodafone 1.72 ROM.
Exactly same kind of problem in HTC touch HD
I know I am discussing this in HTC touch HD2 forum, but I have HTC Touch HD and facing exactly same kind of problem. Have Upgraded from 6.1 to 6.5. Worked flawlessly for 5 months until now. Phone freezes in the Today screen right after connecting to computer thru USB and have to resurrect by resetting. I have Winterface UI installed. It used to work fine before. Please help.
I have noticed after many many efforts and after reading many subjects about the freezing issue, and after almost dumping the HD2 in the garbage, that the reason for this problem is the SD card 32 fat. I have switched a couple of 8GB cards and the system freeze starts within minutes. Then I copied every thing onto a 4G card 16fat and the mobile is flying since then.
Also avoid spb-traveler as it has a conflict with the device making it very slow and full of errors.
Still a problem...
I was excited when I saw that someone had posted on this subject, as I too am plagued by my phone crashing when its connected to USB to the pc. Unfortunately, the post was from a long time ago. I'm using the newest T-mobile rom 3.14.531.1 and it occurs EVERY time I plug the phone into my Windows 7 computer or my Mac...
I don't specifically believe that it's related to the SD card itself, because I can connect in Android via USB and this isn't a problem. I suppose, this could be an issue if it's just related to WM 6.5. My next option (my phone is not with me currently) is to remove the SD card and plug in the phone and see if the same thing happens. If it still occurs, I believe that would 100% rule out the SD card as the issue.

Well, I removed the SD card and when I plugged it into a computer it STILL acted weird. The symptoms seemed different though. First, I can't hit the start button. Well, I can physically touch it, but it does not respond at all. Nor does the start icon at the top take me to the start menu. Also, I tried to go into settings > Menu > All Settings to then turn off sense to see if that was the problem, and it won't even let me in to the 'all settings.'
I guess next step is to just do a hard reset in hopes that this fixes the problem, that or move to a custom rom. I just don't really want to do either because I have a lot of stuff I'd rather not tweak to get to where my phone is at again.
If anyone has any ideas, please help.
Thanks
Hey
Just turn the data sync options like fb and twitter to off. ANd you phone will be running in no time. JUST went to the same problem today and found turning data options off as the best solution.

I have bought my HD2 for amost 4 months already and this bugs have been happend 5 times already!!!! And it forces me to hard reset my phone cause it keep saying that I have input a wrong passwords but I'm sure my password is correct!!!
The last time it happened is when I disconnect my phone from computer. I connect my phone to computer and choose the card reader function instead of active sync. to copy files to my mirco sd card. After copying is finished i disconnect from computer. Then when I do a softrest, this password bug comes. It won't allow me to unlock the phone and keep saying password incorrect!!!!
Anyone has the same experience???? OR can anyone solve this bug???
I plug in my phone to my computer and ut charges but it wont connect to computer through DISK DRIVE WTF... I RESET IT TWICE AND NOTHING... ITS NOT CORD OR PHONE CUZ IT CHARGES...
when you plug it in to your PC in a mass storage mode the memory card is locked
the phone acts as a thumbdrive so you can drag and drop files onto your sd card.
theres a prompt that AKSs?(asks) you what mode would you like to connect.
either sync or mass storage.
every phone does it same btw.
Two possibilities-
1. Your card may have gotten corrupted. It's a fairly common occurrence and it will cause your phone to not be able to read it. Plug it into the PC via a card reader & see if you can see any files on it. If it takes an unusually long time for your comp to see it, or if all you see are wierd files with numbers as names, then its corrupted. Even if it loads fine, it wouldn't hurt to reformat it anyway just for the sake of maintenance. I suggest formatting it as fat32 with 64k allocation unit size for the best read speed.
2. Your settings on the phone are incorrect. Go to settings>system>connections>USB to PC and make sure the disk drive option is enabled, and that the "ask me first about USB connection type" option is checked.
If neither of those fixes it, back up your data & try a hard reset. If that STILL doesn't fix it, then your card is dead.
Is anyone else getting this problem whereby the MTP connection to PC does not show a large percentage of the files stored?
On the phone, all media shows as expected in associated apps, root explorer sees all files.
The problem for me appears to be on my external sd card (its a Samsung 64Gb, formatted to exFat)
I was wondering if there is a way to force a refresh on the PC side?
Barring that, I think the only option I have is to back up the card and re-format it.(which will take me a couple of hours!)
Thanks
