File transfer issues - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

WHen i attempt to transfer files to my Wizard it freezes. The file size is 300mb to my 1GB SD card. It is a movie and whenever I try to copy it from my PC to the phone via USB it freezes.
I have only been able to transfer small .cab files and .mp3s....
What can I do to fix this besides buying a separate reader?

Do you have a SD card slot on your PC? Or a Card reader device? Try to take out the MINI SD, plug it in to its SD card adapter (if you have it) and copy it directly on to the card. Then place back the MINI SD card in the device.
It is quite difficult to say if it is your USB connection or active sync, your PC or something else ...
In case you do not have a card reader:
Maybe you have WLAN? Try to copy it via wifi then ...
Yep,
lots of choices, lots of possibilities - and lots of things which can go wrong!

how would i go about copying it via wifi?

Quite hard to explain if I do not know what hardware you have (such as wireless home network, router, accesspoint) and if you have experiences in setting up wireless connections (infrastructure if router / ap exists - ad-hook if not).
In case you do not have any experiences it would be too difficult to explain anyway. You might want to check your USB? What ActiveSync version are you using? What Windows version ...
You see: there are a lot of components and information needed in order to help you one way or another! Never forget: people who are trying to help on here know only as much about your problem as you post ...

Heh i have wifi all setup I have verizon fios. I can connect via my phone to the network thought maybe i had to do a certain procedure. What i did though was upload it to my ftp then connect from my phone and transfer it like that. While it was time consuming ti worked at least.
Activesync version 4.5, windows xp. I'm probably just going to give in and go buy a sd card reader tomorrow.

SD-Link11b wireless LAN SDIO card 802.11b

I have recently bought one of these on ebay for my Qtek 2020
Here is a link to a similar sale: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3728&item=5716896682
So far the card has worked fine. It connects to my Access point at home (I have a Belkin 54g AP) and I have also connected it in ad-hoc mode to my laptop using a D-Link 54g PC Card. No indication of battery life effects yet, but the card does get warm in use.
I have failed so far to get ActiveSync to connect over the network, but that just might be a firewall issue with my company laptop. I can browse the laptop hard disc without trouble and stream mp3's to the PDA fine.
If only Pocket PC2003 network settings was a bit more user freindly!
The SanDisk card has two problems that are really annoying. Can you tell me if this card:
1. Can connect to WPA-protected access points?
2. If you remove the card, and re-insert it, will it work without having to reset the device?
WPA access is supported in the application, but I haven't tried it as I use MAC address control on my home AP. I could give it a try if you need it tested.
I can remove and replace the card and it reconnects without having to do a reset. If you replace it very quickly after removing it it will get confused, but I guess that's not unreasonable.
That's much better than the Sandisk. You have to reset the device if you remove it and want to use it again. And tech support says that is normal! Idiots. The Sandisk also doesn't support WPA. The application says it does, and it will take the key, but it doesn't work. Once again, Sandisk support says that is normal.
So...if you have some time to try out WPA at some point, it would be very useful to know.

SandDisk SD wifi card and WM2003se

I got a SandDisk SD wifi with no memory that I use with my I-mate, or let me say I used to use , I've upgraded yesterday to wm2003se and installed the latest driver availble on sandisk website (Oct 03) and till now I couldn't connect to the access point...
Any help is apreciated.
Regards,
anyone please ??
RE
Hi!
Is I-Mate the equivalent of O2 XDA II? If yes, then I might have the answer
I was also having problem with my SANDISK SDIO WiFI card and my O2 XDA II with WM2003SE all these while since the upgrade until JUST NOW.
By a stroke of luck I manage to coneect it to my home DLINK router.
Go to START -> SETTINGS -> CONNECTIONS ->NETWORK CARDS -> NETWORK ADAPTERS -> Change the 'My network card connects to :' WORK (not internet)
Use cable to activesync your PPC to your Desktop PC making sure that the connection is there. Insert your WiFi card and see whether it connects. If not, de-active activesync, take out your PPC and soft reset with the WiFi card in place. Put it back into your cradle and allow activesync to proceed and see whether your card connects.
See whether this procedure works
thanks for your reply,
I tried what you have suggested with no luck :?
My network card tries to associate with no success
thanks anyway
RE
ArcticCat,
Sorry to mention. I was also playing around with this freeware, Hitchhiker, then and was connected. After which I deleted Hitchhiker.
Here,
http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/
Try connecting via Hitchhiker and see whther it connects. Make sure you follow my previous procedure too.
thanks again for you reply but no success either
let me ask some question
1) You have a SandDisk SD I/O Wifi with no memory ??
2) what drivers are u using for it?
3) you have wm2003se installed
4) what was the problem before?
I am seeing the AP but cannot associate to it.... same thing with you?
Regards
RE
ArcticCat
Answers
1) I'm using SANDISK SDIO WiFi card without memory
2) I'm using SOCKET WLAN Tools Mobile Edition v2.01. Get it from Socket Communications
3) Yes, I've WM2003SE installed on my O2 XDA II
4) Same problem like yours, previously for a long time till last night. Can associate but cannot connect.
I'm using ActiveSync v3.8
I suggest you just play around with Hitchhiker and my procedure for a while. Reset and disconnect/connect activesync if you require. FI, Hitchhiker cannot connect too in my case.
Good luck
Now we have the same configuration with the only difference that I am still not able to connect :?
I didn't quite understood what do u want me to do with ActiveSync
thanks once more
RE
ArcticCat,
Did you get your SDIO WiFi driver here:-
http://www.socketcom.com/support/support_wlan.asp?Type=SDIO
The one for WM2003
Yes I did... NO luck today neither
RE
If you're able to get a copy of the new Socket WiFi Companion which is not released on its website yet you can give a try.
were u able to get it?? if yes can you tell me where from ?
thanks
RE
Can you pm your email address to me and I'll email to you.
However, use at your own risk as I've NOT try it yet

Cheers Joe,
Been thinking of one of these for a while for when travelling and that price its a must. Already on it way thanks and thanks also for the instructions and suggestions,
M.
yep.. ordered one for my to-be phone!
waiting for both my s110 and the el-cheapo sd wifi to arrive next week =)
started reading for software reviews aswell...
what drivers do you recommend using with this sd wifi card?
Drivers
Hi,
This was against the first reviewer on eBuyer for the WIFI card, think it will help. Now to look into this extended ROM hack!!!!
M.
The phone runs \"Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition\", and the card worked straight out of the box once drivers installed. However, \"worked\" is a difficult issue. The card did exactly what it\'s supposed to. BTW - the drivers include a tool to scan the local area for wifi, so it\'ll be useful for finding open connections in coffee shops etc, no other tools needed. Shows signal strength, WEP, data rate etc, most of what you\'ll need.
As I said, the card does what it says on the tin, found an open network and connected to it no problem. However, setting up the Pocket PC to use the connections can be tricky, so have a look at this site http://wifi.aximsite.com/wifi_net.html
Basically, you have to use your \"Work\" connection, and tell the PPC not to use proxies. After some trial and eror, got it all working perfectly, although I blame Microsoft, not the card for the difficulties in figuring out the Networking Settings.
Next ActiveSync: follow this page
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_september24.mspx
Basically, in your \"network card\" settings, choose wlan adaptor, and then \"Name servers\" tab, and in WINS enter the IP address of your host (desktop) computer that you want to sync with. Ensure you have ethernet syncing enabled on the desktop, and then open activesync on the PPC to sync through the air
If you have a Magician, I recommend doing the \"extended ROM\" hack to give yourself 27mb of \"storage\", and stick all your browser goodies in there so that you can remove your storage card and still have access to programs installed.
Cheap Wifi Card mini-review
Just to comment on latts post, I honestly do nothing but leave defaults on for browsing (connect using Work Network being the only change). I have never had to alter anything for network Activesync in terms of nameservers etc, just ticked the box on the A/sync page.
My mini review:
Activesync over Wifi is much more reliable than Bluetooth, 100% reliability so far
Wifi connection attempts to take place as soon as the card is inserted, I have to manually choose my home network, but the WiFi utility is easy to use and accesses my protected network (SSID hidden, MAC access control & WEP encryption) without any dramas.
The card is quite small, jutting out about 10mm, which isn't as bad as it sounds (remembering my Palmone card!). Power drain is not nearly as bad as I expected either.
Overall, a bargain card that *just works*. Recommended.
Joe
latts - that's my review
I also use blutetooth network - cheaper at £6, but not as fast. But works well enough. But wifi browsing is great on the street!
V
Good one Vijay, hope you didn't think I was taking your glory.
It works
Hi,
Received the WIFI card last week but just picked it up this weekend. Very small (only about 5mm sticking out of the top) and very easy to use.
I installed the driver, the utility (as per instructions) stuck the card in and it worked, brilliant.
Going to try Skype out tonight but mail etc. works a dream.
If only everything in life was as easy,
Thx,
M.
Internet as apposed to Work connection
Hi,
Just one question for you lads, you mention that when you use the WIFI card you should connect through the WORK connection, why is that?
It seems when I connected mine I either - or it automatically - selected the Internet connection rather than the work connection. It works fine for downloading mail and internet however I noticed a few voice problems on Skype which I am putting down at the moment to Skype version 1.1.066
Anyway, just wondered why Work. I have two connections set-up on my QTEK:
1. Internet - for mail and surfing
2. Work - For MMS
If I use the internet connection - as I am - for WIFI then While the card is in I am still free to use the MMS connection which I don't suppose I could use via WIFI, correct?
Any help or answers to these questions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
M.
Any other place I can get this card for a reasonable price that does ship internationally?
I need it shipped to Holland.
Re: Internet as apposed to Work connection
Hi Latts,
I've just read your posting about your wifi card and using skype with it. I've got a SPV M500 and am also thinking of getting this Wifi card. The main reason for this is that the Bluetooth just doesn't have the bandwidth for Skype or the open standatd VoIP SIP. I've been waiting for a positive Skype of Softphone SIP test before buying this wifi card though. I was wondering what skype problems you where experiencing. I can then compare them to my USB and bluetooth Skype experiences (well i'll have to try it again to compare) and see if its a software bug or a bandwidth issue.
In case you need it, i'm sending you the X-Tem softphone (SIP). I case you've not heard of SIP, its an open standard VoIP but has higher compression so i hear, so may be better for our phone / PDAs.
Thanks again for your posting. Very useful
Neil

Help please, no hair left!! SD WIFI CARD

Hi I am having a problem, did a search but still could not find an answer to fix it.
Okay received a SD WIFI Card today for my XDA 11. Loaded drivers and using the utility it connects to a signal - good, first hurdle negotiated.
When I come to try and connect Internet explorer or Opera all I get is "cannot load page".
I believe I have to do something with the settings-connections-menu but that's when I get flummoxed as I don't know what to click or do.My ISP or my work something?
I would be eternally grateful if someone could point this idiot in the right direction - and here was me thinking the hard bit would be getting the SD WIFI card to work.
my work is the right one

Is that it?
I was expecting a couple of sentences of do this, do that. If that is all i'll give it a try Rudegar. Thanks
On both connections choose My Work Connection.
You might have to enter DNS servers for the wifi card as well. Use the same you use in your computer.
Doesn't seem to work - keeps saying this page cannot be loaded.
It's as if IE doesn't know it's supposed to use the WIFI connection? Told you I was an idiot when it comes to things like this.
i would use the installable ms network tools
to try and ping things and such
otherwise wifi on ppc is alot like on pc
if you dont feel comfortable with it
then maybe you could get somebody
who is to help you irl ?
Thanks, I think the problem is that the signal is too weak.
sdio wifi card on xda II - solution
ive read a couple of times people having issues with thier sd wifi cards one of the fixes had been to have a part of your hand NEAR the wifi card (the built in antanna just cant pull a strong signal all the time). make sure that both your sd wifi card and your wifi router is using the same network key and has the DHCP server enabled. last and maybe not least - if you xda is using windows mobile 2003se or less you will see "page not found" message often becuse the browser had tried to load a page requiring a java or active x- control and cant load. This is equivelent to the 404 Page not Found. Upgrade if you need to.

ActiveSync & Read/Write Problems

I've checked the forums and cannot find any reference to the problems I have:
I have a T-Mobile Vario 2 with WM5. When I connect to the PC via USB, ActiveSync only recognises the unit as a GUEST and has limited functionality. It used to work OK and as far as I know I've done nothing to change anything. I've tried different PC's, upgrading ActiveSync to 4.5, different cables and nothing changes. Any ideas?
Also, I cannot copy, delete, move files on the phone (or memory card when in phone). I cannot download files onto the phone from the internet. I deems as though I have a write protect lock on somehow. Again, any ideas?
As a newbie to this forum, any help you can give would be appreciated.
Dave
