Hi, I find the Arc's calendar app very difficult to read with the white text on dark blue background.
Anybody found a way to modify that "theme" or reskin the calendar app?
I've been thinking of editing the xml layout files in the calendar apk (my device is rooted) but thought I'd ask first before starting...
thanks
erwan
if you change the system background (there's a thread on here for it) it will be reflected in the calendar, and the calculator.. amongst other things!

I guess we could indeed do that but that would not change the text color (currently white or light gray) and might be impossible to read of a different background.
we need to be able to fully skin the Calendar app or replace it with the stock Android one.

Is it possible to have transparent Calendar & Music pages.
Mine have the default dark-to-light blue transition background; i.e. for the calendar it is white numbers on a aqua blue background and for music it is album art on a aqua blue background. Or is this a Telstra (Australia) permanent thing.
Oh using CoOkie's Home Tabs and have my wallpaper on all tab-pages but for calendar and music this is covered by the default aqua blue background.
Thank you.

hi...does anybody have a twitter widget with black or dark background?
the original one ist too white
or which twitter widgets do you use?
Simply open the .apk and edit the image files to a darker type suitable. Then repack and push to system or wherever your apps are.

Have a look at this, created by me,

I installed a ROM yesterday and now my notification bar, once it's expanded/pulled down, has a certain amount of transparency... a lot more transparent than I'd like.
Are there any simple mods I can do to change the alpha values to make it more opaque or have I just got to put up with it? Or is it possible to install a different notification (expanded) screen?
Thanks.
The notificatiin bar can be modified from theme, so you have to find a good one for your rom.

I see, so I can't just modify that current screen? I have to overwrite the whole current theme? Was kind of hoping to keep it how it is and just get the background colour to solid black of the expanded notifications bar.
Thanks anyway, was beginning to think this could be a possible scenario.

Of course you can just change the background.
Thats how a theme is done, taking all the files and modifying them.
You would have to find the files responsible for the notification bar and change them to suit your needs.
How to do that i don't know, but i'm sure the forum search and google will help you out, when you search for something like "android theme tutorial" or something like that.
Last night I did the 4G Lte icons. That got me thinking of changing a few other icons. First on my list is the bluetooth (on and connected icons). I saved the two pics I found on google images, converted them to a smaller size..used Ninjamorph to swap them out and all went well...however, the images do not have transparent backgrounds so the background is white (looks horrible when it is displayed in the status bar with a white background with NOTHING else up there is white). I have been trying for a few hours to use MS Paint to make everything EXCEPT the actual image transparent..no luck so far.
How/what is the easiest way to accomplish this?
Try using GIMP it's far better at tasks like that.
You could probably also Google around for any guides and what not on creating transparent backgrounds for icons.

I want to install a "dark" theme for my S8 Snapdragon that's in the S7 forum. Can I do this on S8 without root (using Package Disabler method)?
If this is possible, will there be any glitches I should be aware of ahead of time? If I can do this, I may never root... well, probably will just to get rid of Samsung-ware.

Use the themes in the theme store under settings. There are dark free ones.

Themes in the "Theme Store" can't change the Messaging app color / text box color, can it? I'm looking for something to give me as much white text on black background as possible in apps / System UI / dialer.
I don't mind paying for a theme in the Theme Store if this can be accomplished.

The "High Contrast Theme" from Samsung has a pure black background with white text in the stock messaging app (for free).

I won't have my S8 until tomorrow - any chance you could point me to screenshots of the Messaging and Settings apps? Or perhaps post them for me if it's not too much trouble
Really appreciate it.

Thanks for that. The white text input box at the bottom is what I was hoping I could make white on black. I've used a few themes around XDA that could do this - like this one I'm currently using on my S6:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/themes/theme-samsung-galaxy-s8-t3582967
I bet there is a user made theme that blacks that out as well but I've only tried a few. I'll let you know if I come across one.
EDIT - Hmm it seems like all of the black themes on the Samsung app have the white text box, maybe they don't allow that to be changed on the stock app?
I have been playing around with Textra for messaging and it allows you to customize the look, see attached image. I think you could make those blue accents black as well.

I like that - I think I'll give that a try.
Yeah there are some elements the Samsung Theme Engine won't allow user created themes to change, at least from my understanding. The High Contrast theme and the use of Textra look like good options until we have root.
Thanks again!
Speaking of themes...Does anyone know if it is possible to get a plain black status bar (not transparent) with white text at the top of the screen all the time (without root)?
