[Q] Used HTC HD2 - HD2 General

Hi all,
Im kind of new here (although I have read some threads following the development of Android HD2 Roms).
A friend of mine has a HTC HD2 which he wants to sell. He asks € 150,-- for it. I dont want to spent to much money and think that price is fine. (is it?)
Is there any other phone which has a good price and has the Android OS + is updated (I mean by that is there frequent development on the phone and such?)
I have a Nokia N97 Mini now and im not pleased with it. It hangs a lot. Touchscreen has been replaced once (because it became unresponsive (and that after 5 months)). They also said I will see them again... soon. And yeah well its Symbian. Its not fast and sometimes I will have to remove the battery to restart it because it doesnt respond. And if I use mobile sites well it sometimes just says Web Time-out for no reason and locks up...
Im the person who always close all apps on the phone, charge it occasionally.
And too be honest in the last few month I have installed so many Android phones that I im very impressed by the phones. (and by that I mean the Android OS )
I will use the phone to call P) use my bluetooth parrot car kit and of course because of the Android OS.
So what do you think. Should (is it worth it?) I buy it for this price and flash it with an Android HD2 Rom?
(Im Dutch so if some sentences arent correct, well I tried also my apostrophe doesnt work for some reason)

the HD2 is a perfect phone for an android beginner or if you don't want to spend too much money on a phone, plus with all the dev support you'll never be bored. I say go ahead and buy it, it will blow the socks off your nokia n97 mini

for $150 it is a cheap Android device with a 4.3" screen.
Might take a little time to find best Android ROM for your requirements but with a bit of effort setting it up you should be very happy.
Only downside is battery is very poor on Android although with constant development things should improve.
If the HD2 is in great condition go for it, compared to n97mini it is amzing on any platform you load on it WM6.5/Android/WP7.

indeed its a good deal i think. the only bad thing is the battery. You will have to plug it every end of the day.

My battery lasts 3 days, running the nexus 2.7 nand rom.
It depends entirely how the owner uses his device

I agree, great rom for battery life. I use this with juicedefender, autokiller memory, and setcpu, and I get a full day of heavy use (live wallpaper, music, heavy facebook use, and plenty of hexdefense/robot unicorn/turbo grannies gaming)

Great price if it's in good shape. Many Android ROMs run very smooth on it and you won't need to worry about closing out every app. Mine has tons of apps running in the background and still silky smooth.
If you are a heavy user just buy an extra battery or extra chargers.

To start flashin, try this dutch site www.intersyte.EU its a dutch site that focusses on hd2 flashin. The site is still in its early stages, but its quite usefull.

Great guys thanks for all the info!
I will get the phone next week and I ve already read the instructions on how to flash it to Android. OK the battery life of the N97 Mini is (that is if I dont call that much) 2 days. But if I call all the time its half a day. And those 2 days is without an active Exchange push mail, only manual because if I setup the push mail the battery will be dead in a couple of hours. I take it thats about the same as the HD2? Im frequently on the road for work so I have a micro-usb car charger of the N97 Mini and of course a normal adapter for at home (because the one im buying is just the phone nothing more)
Just one thing does the HD2 support Micro-SDHC ? And if so what size should I get (and if it matters what brand?)? Is there any maximum supported size on the Android Roms? I recall that it was 32 GB on WM 6.5.

yeah, pretty much the same battery, a rom without htc sense should last you longer though.
yeah, the hd2 supports microSDHC, in fact it comes by default with a 16gb one, it can go up to 32gb, same as on WM 6.5

I just did the same thing
I am in the same boat. I found an HD2 on craigslist for $80, and I bought it because I had read about people flashing Android on them.
I had been watching ebay to buy one, and all the ones I saw were selling for at least $200. So, I felt like I got a great price.
So far, I have been very happy with it. I am upgrading from an HTC G1, and it is a world of difference. The screen is huge and the device is thin. It doesn't have the fold out keyboard, but I didn't use the one on my G1 much anyway. One thing I am getting used to is not having a track ball. I didn't use it much, but I must have used it more than I thought.
The flashing was more challenging than I thought. You have to have access to Windows and download the WMDC program from Microsoft. Be prepared to do a lot of reading. I tried the Kingdom ROM because it included Sense 3.0. I think that is making it somewhat buggy, but i am still learning.
One thing I learned was that there are two different HD2 variants. There is a European one with 512MB Ram, and a TMOUS one with 1042MB. As you choose your ROM keep that in mind.
Hope that helps, and I wish you luck in your endeavor. If you are interested in links and such, here is my first blog post on it (not the best, but it has some links):

HD2
Well yesterday I finally got the HD2 (for € 125,-)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
I used this Rom. I followed the clean installation and it worked perfectly. The only thing I can't seemed to find an answer to is if I change the SD card? Android is installed on the NAND but I have order a 16 GB SD card and now there is a 2 GB installed. Can I just switch these?

You can pull everything off of the old SDcard, put it on your PC, then put it onto your new card. Pop it in your phone and everything should work fine... eventually. If you have a lot of songs for example (I have 16gb of music on my 32gb card) it can take a little while for your phone to catalog it again. Mine has frozen doing this and I just pop out the battery and reboot. Eventually it will get it all.
Do you have an EXT partition? That would need copied too. I use a Linux VM for that. Not sure the best way to do it with no Linux.

Selling my HTC X7500

I no longer need my htc x7500. I bought it for $1200usd and I am not sure how much it goes for these days. I am asking $450USD since I am not using it much anymore. I am a physician resident. The large screen size was perfect for reading up on my patients, but I have no need for it anymore. I am willing to trade it for a NEW HTC TOUCH PRO or used HTC TOUCH HD (working in perfect condition)!
It comes with the original box, books, CD's, charger, VGA output wire and original receipt (as a proof that I was the only owner). I am also adding the car mount with car charger.
It is in overall good condition, and works perfectly.
device issues:
1- The small black rubber on the joystick fell out. It seems to be a common problem on those (seem image)
2- black color on the edges worn off from normal wear and tear (see image)
i have ROM "Athena_SPL3.5_WM6.1_B20931_WWE_R6.1-MiChY" with SPL 3.5
If anyone interested or have any questions (scammers need not reply) PM
I added pictures for a closer look.

I don't think they can't. They just want us to buy some wildfires
not gonna happen
I bought my tattoo less than 3 months ago and it's great! But since many people like me bought it when the people from frandroid leaked false info for an upcoming update htc should have decided to do it out of good will and marketing. Yet again even an up-to-date htc hero rom hasnt been released yet. Next htc prodct should be htc no update ir htc next quartee, etc.
*edit I guess they pushed a hero firmware upgrade after all

That's never gonna happen that I'll be buying another HTC product! Don't get me wrong: I loved my Tattoo, but even the best phone is useless without software support...
P.S.: And I bet my ass that they never did a research at all...there was never Tattoo software support by HTC (and after 2.2 the Wildfire will also "die")!
Have you tried kiljacken's 2.1 ROM with Sense UI? Tattoo really can't manage it... It runs way to slowly and unreliably.
That's why my next phone will be a virgin android, no sense, motoblur or whatever junk.
But if they really loved us they would release a kernel or basic 2.x ROM with camera support and no Sense junk and let us cannibalize it... but that'll never happen
HTC is maybe not supporting its customers, but they are no idiots to release a 2.x code for Tattoo

this reponse of HTC is weired, it seems that they not talk about TATTOO, they talk generality... yesterday a receive a response of HTC that they don´t upgrade our phone to Android 2.1. i think this is a lie, for my sorry
I just wonder: what is in this 2.1 software that you want so much? You want your phone to run slower and drain battery faster? Donut is not so bad. I use it on my G1 after a bunch of Eclair ROMs and really like it. I'm even thinking of staying on 1.6.

Ditto. HTC make good products, that can fall off beds and not smash unlike *cough*iPhones*cough* that just explode for no apparent reason. When it comes to support, it's like pulling your teeth out with a rusty pair of pliers. Very painful process and they end up tossing you into a creek without a paddle.
next,i want to buy other phone except HTC.

I used one of the 2.1 ROM's from here, and it didn't drain the battery has fast as the stock 1.6 ROM. It was definitely faster and used lesser battery. So battery usage is not ROM specific, but manufacturer specific. If the manufacturer writes a ****ty code or makes too many apps run at the same time, it drains more battery.
Frankly, I don't want to buy another phone from HTC. I'll probably buy a Moto Droid next, though I don't like Moto phones.
hi
Moving this to General
Not official
A few thoughts on this.
First the thread title, this is not official. This is the main problem, HTC are bad at communicating with their customers (unless they are telling you what new product they have launched or what award they have won). Their 'technical support' are the front-line culprits. Their answers are very inconsistent, and a lot of the answers are guesses based on the internal rumour mill. The big rumour internet surge in March ("HTC confirm Tattoo getting 2.1) was due to the publication of a response from HTC technical support. Their head office marketing teams should be stopping this.
Secondly, I bought my Tattoo last year. At the time, i was an Android noob and was told by Vodafone that one of the great things is that Android would be constantly evolving. I personally didn't expect this to be forever, just not never. I contacted HTC support before purchase and was told it would be updated shortly. I also read a press release from HTC saying that Hero and Tattoo would be updated 2010Q1.
I'm relatively happy with my Tattoo. I'm relatively happy with 1.6 (but might not be in a year when no apps will run on it -- hoping this won't be the situation!). The only thing that does annoy me with it is the lack of Autofocus (again the spec claiming Autofocus was all over the web last December -- but wrong).
What will stop me buying another HTC though is this lack of communication (or poor commuication). This century companies need to have a dialogue with their customers and be open in their communications. HTC have not done this, and so although I think their products are good enough, their company isn't.
Im with Brandmarket.

First I would like to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. Second try android.
I installed Froyo V3 and it worked pretty well
forget buying the x1.
winmo 6.5 and android are just ported, and android is still not for daily use. it takes a lot of trial&error to get it running smoothly. trust me, a lot!
if you really want both os - get an htc hd2. (doesn't it run windows phone 7 as well?)
if you need hw-keyboard, get a touch pro 2.
but keep in mind that you'll always buy outdated hardware. and sw-development for winmo 6.5 is deader than dead.
man, remember I live in Uruguay.
X1 is not that old here
that doesn't change anything of what i wrote.
unless you run stockrom (winmo 6.1), you'll always have an unofficial beta-software running. although winmo 6.5(.x) is just as stable these days, or should i say 3 times better than 6.1?
but software? well, you'll never see any of those cool apps for android & ios being officially released for winmo. noone develops for it anymore.
examples: opera -> no opera 11 & opera mini 6.x; microsoft just turned off myphone and market for 6.5; your favourite news-site has such cool mobile-stuff? well, guess which os isn't supported... (and thanks to apple, most sites make good apps, but their mobile-pages for browser are from the stone age)
@hardware:
it's from 2008, 528 mhz. after that came snapdragon 1ghz (1st gen), then snapdragon 2nd gen and currently dual-core cpu's are state of the art. (each generation had a better gpu as well)
and thanks to SE never giving a damn, we have pretty bad hw-drivers as well (compared to htc's phones from that era)
right now i'm running android, but that's just my lazy sunday afternoon fun. it's not for daily use (kernel-issues, only from sd -> slower than flashed, hw-keys stop working from time to time etc etc). it's 10 times better than a year ago, but...
why am i still using this phone?
i want full qwerty-keyboard, but noone's making one i'd buy (high-end). and i still like winmo 6.5.
x1 is amazing
cost 100 bucks on ebay
and i dont what these ppl are talking about but android is faster than some of the roms
it can be used as a daily without a doubt
i have been using android on my x1 as a daily phone for 2 weeks without any issues
thanks

Cm9 in xperia x8

Hello, I want to give my point of view, is much the scandal that has made for carrying on the xperia x8 ics, but I want to ask ..... so necessary is to have ics at x8? I know you all want the best and newest in our terminals, I think if you can, so simple, remember when we started having CM7, had many bugs, such as camera, sound recorder, etc., without racht but he did, maybe not so good but it did, also thanks to doixanh, we have the camera in 3MP in CM7, which we did not have, in conclusion I think that we should all do our bit to have the best and not divide us, trying to work together and to demotrar FXP team, we did what they could not .....
Opened a thread in the dev section just to say that?

i agree too...As far as i know theres a team who work for ics i dont if still a team, maybe you should cooperate with trouf...
People, for ics on x8 needs very hardly work and luck. Because many things. We now with custom kernel(182mb ram) don't have enough memory for fully experience 2.3.7 Rom. And processor?....If you think real, best for x8 is fully working froyo and froyo kernel.

beter is 2.3.7
Or that, better to have something fully working and not part of some Rom
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
froyo its most stable and great performance but 2.3.7 its has more features ... and its becoming most stable and fast lately...
I hope you cant make it XperiaFan13 !!!!
sorry my bad english!

I am 100% agree with you. Even I think so.
Our X8's Hardware is almost perfect for FROYO not gingerbread and ICS.
Most of Users Overclock their X8 while using Gingerbread ROMs because X8's CPU is only 600 MHZ which is a small clock speed for Gingerbread. Also overclocking is HARMFUL to processor.
In FROYO roms there is no need of Overclocking as it runs smoothly even on 600MHZ.
And also use tweaks for more free RAM in Gingerbread ROMS and hardly they get
approx. 95MB FREE in Custom KERNEL using TASK KILLER
approx. 80MB RREE in STOCK KERNEL using TASK KILLER.
And in FROYO ROMS with STOCK KERNEL without task Killer 75MB free and by using task killer 110 MB free.
AND I THINK on FROYO custom Kernel it will have 120 MB free which will be best for our X8.
NOTE:- ICS on X8 will be just like WINDOWS 7 running on 256MB RAM and 1GHZ processor.
I'd very much love to see ICS running on our X8's, but at the same time I'm in serious doubt about if it can be done or not - taking our awesome dev's in consideration, of course. We(our beloved developers) have achived alot for such a small phone, though I must say, this is where the road for our X8 must come to an end. Simply 'cause the hardware is insufficient for the software to run on it.. But there's alot more things that needs to be taken in consideration, than the single aspect that I looked at.
I don't want to disbelief, so I don't - but I doubt it, and admit that the X8 is near the very end when talking about software upgrades..

I agree with you 100%
@to all - it's not about processor, but memory

You know what Windows 7 has 32 bit version,
ICS can be reduced to full fill X8 requirements.

You can't even install windows 7 on 256 ram, you need at least 512
I think that with some tweaks and some useless parts taken off, ICS will be able to run on X8 like gingerbread does. Plus, their requierments are the same...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think any new android OS can be ported to whatever device you want. Like some people have said above, you've got to scrap functions that require high processor power and more RAM and other hardware power which X8 doesn't have. It can be ported in a way that it will run optimized for X8 hardware.
Google drops devices from upgrades is because it won't give consumers a new reason to buy a new phone if they offer upgrades to all available android devices (or it maybe the hardware manufacturer dropping the device from upgrades) As you all know, it would have been totally ok to give X8 an official froyo upgrade, but sony ericsson dropped X8 with 2.1 eclair.
When it comes to porting CM versions also, the same thing applies, they prefer to drop devices when it gets too old and focus on newer devices.

good talk. they all wan $$ only. force we update new and expensive phone.
Its nice to see X8 users taking things into consideration but you guys do know that if people keep pestering devs for cm9, you can kiss a fully working version of it goodbye ? Take paul-xxx's cm9 thread for i.e....he's had to open three threads so far because 2/3 threads were spammed with pointless crap and repeated questions...keep doing so and he may drop support for the x8 altogether...i've been to the x10, x10 mini and x10 mini pro threads and the amount of maturity they have there is so high, it makes the x8 thread look like a kindergarten full of whiny kids...please, to anyone who read this, please remember this...devs can do anything at all !!! I dont have to show you that to make you understand, just look around you or in your hand..but remember, devs always ask themselves, " Is this worth it ? Is all the stress, demands and complaints really worth it ? Do i want to start developing everyday after reading trolls hating on my rom ?", everytime they take on a project...so cm9 or 7 or whatever wont be a prob, its if our devs still have it in their hearts to support us...and believe me, i registered in sept. and since then ive seen many people leave the x8 scene due to our immaturity...
