Hello !
Is anyone has succeeded in porting the email client app from HTC Sense 3.0 powered phones to prior versions of Sense or to Sense 2/3 mixed ROMs (InsertCoin, RCMix, ...) ?
Actually, the update of the email client from HTC is quite amazing and easy to use ?
Thx

I tried a couple Android 2.0 ROMs and it seems to me that Android 2.0 supports Exchange email only. I did not find any 'native' support for Calendar or Contacts. Did I miss it somehow or can anybody please confirm my findings?
As I know, Android 2.0 exchange is too weak to support contact.
We must wait for 2.1.
Hi, I recently switched from MyHero to Cyanogen and am really starting to miss the Exchange functionality I had in MyHero. After configuring my works exchange server it would sync mails, contacts and calendar events.. extremely useful!
Now on Cyanogen I have "Work Email" which lets me check the mail on my works exchange server, but it;s kind of annoying as it's a different mail client, plus it doesn't sync contacts and calendar events.
Anyone know if I can get the exchange functionality from MyHero in Cyanogen?
Thanks!
Just got to work, a collegue has a HTC Dream which apparently has the full exchange funcionality.
How does my HTC Magic with a newever version of Android (and improvements by Cyanogen) have a crappier mail client than him? It makes no sense.
Please tell me how to get the full mail functionality I'm supposed to have
Just found out Cyanogen doesn't use the HTC Framework because it's not open source. Understandable but for me it's a deal breaker..
I'm starting to look for a new ROM..
I'm curious too about what ROMs offer full exchange functionality. So far, I've been using Hotweiss' Hofo ROMS, but those are 32a only.

It depends on what you mean by "full exchange functionality". There are many ROMs with Microsoft ActiveSync support. I have been most satisfied with the HTC Mail client running under Sense UI. I have an HTC Magic 32A device. I am currently using GyD 2.11. The HTC Mail client works brilliantly. Email, contacts, and calendar events sync. It is reported that 1.5 and 1.6 don't fully support the extra security layers on Exchange. Unless your company requires PIN lock/remote wipe, you can most likely use any 1.5 ROM to connect. Again, I have been most happy with the HTC Mail clients running under 1.5 cupcake builds.
You will not gain anything additional for work email if you've already been using Hofo Sense UI ROM. Hofo, GyD, MyHero, Mlign - they all have Exchange ActiveSync.
OK I think I have finally figured out why the CM6.0 or CM6.1 email app does not work with my exchange server. My company loves to block unsupported devices. Aka the iPhone doesn't work only windows mobile is suppose to work by their documents. But i do know that they allow the HTC email app to work on the Evo, and when i was running CM5.08 i was able to use HTC Work Email.apk ... SO Palm, HTC , and Windows Mobile Device Type / Ids are allowed on the server, there is no way i can get the company to change those rules.
Does anyone know how to get a working HTC Sense Email app to work on CM6.1? IF so please tell me how.
Or if you do not think that will work, is there a way to change the Device Type or Device ID Fields for the stock android email app?
Please any help would be awesome. I love Cyanogen and don't want to switch to a sense mod, but my Exchange email is so important.
You can't use any Sense Apps on AOSP
Why the hell are so many people asking to use HTC apps on non-Sense devices??? IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! The only app that I am aware of is the HTC Music app. That's it! You can't use dialer, contacts, browser, twitter, friendster, weather, email, rosie, etc.
It's because of the framework and kernel differences. It'll be so much easier to create an app that is similiar to HTC's than to use the original. Honestly though... if you like Sense UI so much... get a device with Sense UI. It'll be much easier.
Personally i love AOSP, the only reason i was looking for it was because the HTC email app on sence is much better and free. Well and my company doesnt block that email app like they do the stock one.
In the stock email client on 2.3.4 is there a way to have pinch/zoom working?
I am testing various SD builds and the HTC Sense email client does have pinch and zoom but would like to stick with the stock client.
So can it be enabled? I can't find anything in the settings.
TIA
Tony
+1 I am wondering this too.

Looks like there are no other replies.
I have been doing some research and find that K9 seems to be a decent client. I have not tried it yet but may download Monday or tueaday. It is a free email client.
I took a look at K9 when I was running a Desire HD based ROM but way preferred the Desire HD's email client. K9 was way OTT for what I wanted. The simplicity of the Sense client but with the features I wanted. Takes some adjusting going a bit more Gingerbread-vanilla!

do you remember if K9 did pinch/zoom? I agree the gingerbread native takes getting used to and the sense email client is quite good, but not available.
I am trying different ROM(s) looking for one that allows me to receive an email in account "A" but REPLY to it from account "B". These are ActiveSync or POP accounts, not GMAIL.
So far the only one i have found is RCMix3D Runny (Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.5) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326217 .
Does anyone else use email in such a manner?
thanks,

Since you have found the ability in a sense 3.5 rom. Then technically, you should be able to find it in every other Sense 3.5 ROM.
(Usually, sense offers more options and features than MIUI or CM7.)
