[Q] Replying from a different account... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am trying different ROM(s) looking for one that allows me to receive an email in account "A" but REPLY to it from account "B". These are ActiveSync or POP accounts, not GMAIL.
So far the only one i have found is RCMix3D Runny (Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.5) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326217 .
Does anyone else use email in such a manner?
thanks,
Bob

Since you have found the ability in a sense 3.5 rom. Then technically, you should be able to find it in every other Sense 3.5 ROM.
(Usually, sense offers more options and features than MIUI or CM7.)

List of ROM's with version of Exchange support

Can everyone post which of the ROMs they have used have which version of Exchange.
Example - Haykuro 5.0.2Hr5 includes FULL Exchange with Email, Contacts and Calendar, whereas Cyanogen 3.6.8.1 is just Email (i.e. MyTouch - Work Email).
It would be nice for those who have the desire to have all 3 features to have a list so to pick the ROM appropriate for them.
Thanks.
Full Exchange - Email, Contacts, Calendar
Haykuro 5.0.2Hr5
Haykuro 6.0r1
JACxHEROv1.2
Soulife's Roger Remix V2.9.2
Limited Exchange - Just Email, i.e. MyTouch Work Mail
Cyanogen 3.6.8.1
Cyanogen v3.9.7 - experimental version
JACxROM-v1.3r3
JACMyTouchSkiv2.5.2
Limited Exchange - Just Email, i.e. MyTouch Work Email
Cyanogen 3.6.8.1
JACxROM-v1.3r3

Anyone interested in deleting this crap (since it is nothing but a total waste of space), delete the file /system/app/Mail.apk -- frees up 1.3 MB that could be put to better use.
I agree, but do you have any ROM's you want to add to the list?
I assume that most everyone is using GMail as their primary email so nobody pays attention to the Exchange feature?
I use Gmail almost exclusively, even for business. Since I can just have it forward there when I am off work, I can simply ignore it if its not important, or reply to it from there and have it sent under my business email address too so it doesn't even matter.

Exchange functionality on Cyanogen?

Hi, I recently switched from MyHero to Cyanogen and am really starting to miss the Exchange functionality I had in MyHero. After configuring my works exchange server it would sync mails, contacts and calendar events.. extremely useful!
Now on Cyanogen I have "Work Email" which lets me check the mail on my works exchange server, but it;s kind of annoying as it's a different mail client, plus it doesn't sync contacts and calendar events.
Anyone know if I can get the exchange functionality from MyHero in Cyanogen?
Thanks!
Just got to work, a collegue has a HTC Dream which apparently has the full exchange funcionality.
How does my HTC Magic with a newever version of Android (and improvements by Cyanogen) have a crappier mail client than him? It makes no sense.
Please tell me how to get the full mail functionality I'm supposed to have
Just found out Cyanogen doesn't use the HTC Framework because it's not open source. Understandable but for me it's a deal breaker..
I'm starting to look for a new ROM..
I'm curious too about what ROMs offer full exchange functionality. So far, I've been using Hotweiss' Hofo ROMS, but those are 32a only.

It depends on what you mean by "full exchange functionality". There are many ROMs with Microsoft ActiveSync support. I have been most satisfied with the HTC Mail client running under Sense UI. I have an HTC Magic 32A device. I am currently using GyD 2.11. The HTC Mail client works brilliantly. Email, contacts, and calendar events sync. It is reported that 1.5 and 1.6 don't fully support the extra security layers on Exchange. Unless your company requires PIN lock/remote wipe, you can most likely use any 1.5 ROM to connect. Again, I have been most happy with the HTC Mail clients running under 1.5 cupcake builds.
You will not gain anything additional for work email if you've already been using Hofo Sense UI ROM. Hofo, GyD, MyHero, Mlign - they all have Exchange ActiveSync.

Windows Hotmail and Exchange Calendar

I've been using various Android builds, and I like most of them. My one problem is my Exchange calendar doesn't seem to be synching with Android. Also I can't find an app that does Hotmail -- at all. One like the HTC email app in WinMo that uses Push.
Can anyone recommend some fixes for these issues?
I'm using an Energy ROM 6.5.5 + 2.12 radio + MattcLeo 1.5 and my exchange calendar syncs fine. I know there are some companies who don't allow Android devices to sync with their servers fully. Could this be your problem? You may try deleting you account and resyncing it.
As far as hotmail goes I believe you have to set it up manually. I don't believe there is anything on the market for it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I am mattc leo v1.5 my hotmail and exchange is working fine.
mattc leo v1.5
radio 2.10.50.26
miri hd rom v.17
i also don't have any solution but can report, that for my sync works well with any build using mail2web.com. so it should be related to hotmail...
Thanks everyone. I was DarkStone when I had the problems. I tried FroyoStone this morning and the calendar that came in it worked with Exchange, so it is possible. Problem is FroyoStone still have some HTC Sense stuff in it (even if it's a clean build), and I'd rather have a complete Sense free device (like DarkStone). So I'll probably have to research this more.
FroyoStone had nothing for setting up a Hotmail account though.
If anyone has any further suggestions, I'd be very happy to hear them.
To let those know:
The newer builds of Android are working okay with the Calendar and Exchange. Tested with Darkstone HD2Froyo v2.0 and 2.1. mattc's Nexus builds also work.
I couldn't find any useful Hotmail apps, but I did find how to add Hotmail as an account on the phone using POP (you need a really old Hotmail account or a paid one for it to work). Also Microsoft is in the process of moving Hotmail to using Exchange compatible interface, so we'll be able to add Hotmail as an actual Exchange service.

[Q] Problems With Android 2.3 Mail System (Non Sense)

Hi !
I use HD2 for the work...
I have 2 "BIG" problemswith all non-sense android 2.3 roms....
1. GAL Support !
How can I add support for GAL ?? I mean global address list ?? In WM Sense and also in Android Sense when I create a new email just presing the "TO" I can select any contact stored or search in GAL (the GAL the company I work has like 50000 contacts so sync them is not an option).
In market "Corporate Address Book" let u do that work... but is not enough since I usually add various contacts... and that sw only let u create new email with the contact u search... If u search another one it creates a totally new email.
Is there anyway to have GAL exactly as in WM Sense / Android Sense ??
2. Email SW problem with emails
Under "Quantity for Sync" u can choose between 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks and 1 Month. Ok but WHERE the hell is the option to choose ALL... I have never seen an email client without that option in many many time !
Anyway to add both functions in Android 2.3 ?? Anyway to install htc email client / contacts in a non sense rom ??
Really ty for all !!
Any ideas ??
This is a big problem for all that sync their exchange work accounts...
K9 does not support GAL also....
And neither of them support also a so simple task that is just adding a contact email to the "To/Copy/Hidden Copy....".
TY
Try Corporate Addressbook
I downloaded Corporate Addressbook from the Android Market and it works very well for me with my corporate exchange account. You can use it stand alone to look up GAL entries and (optionally) add them to your contacts. What is really nice (at least for me...) is that it also seems to automatically work in my email now. If I type in a contact name that is not in my own contacts, it automatically starts looking in the GAL.
Give it a try.
I am using Gingerbread from MDJ's Cyanogen 2.6.
What about a way to search emails? I cannot seem to find a way to search my inbox for emails that are on the phone. I can get the KB to pop up, but nothing happens when I type....?

[Q] Help Dear Elelinux. V2.3.4 only has Google Calendar

Sorry I couldnt reply to elelinux's original post of realsing the
[ROM]Elelinux-7.1.0-RC1-Hero-v3.0 Android 2.3.4 (2011-07-16)
as a newbee.
Like titled in this post, I've found at least three of us reporting the bug, could anyone including elelinux please help to figure this out? It seems already happended since a very old realse back to Feb this year...
an earlier one found here:

Hello,
I'm really happy with this Rom, thank you to all participating on it!
One issue I found:
I cannot create another calendar with the calendar App. I only have the Google-calendar which is synchronising fine with my Google-account, but I would like to have a second offline-one.
Any suggestions how to add another calendar?
(normally you do it in the calendar app with the dialogue "my calendars")
Cheers, Otze

Hello,
coming from Cronos 2.2.0.0 Sense Éclair, I am using this ROM for a few days now and I am very happy with it. The only problem I have so far is the calendar, the same like Otze in post 965. There is only the Google calendar but I need the local Android calendar. Is this a HTC Sense feature or am I doing something wrong?
Any hints are welcome.
Joe

So people just read and never reply...
resolved
Hi guys, it's really like this,
when you flashed the elelinux 2.3.4 ROM, by default the feature of auto sync is not automatically enabled(activitated?) after you setting up either gmail or corporate mail accounts. Before you enable, you can only find gmail calendar in any style of calendar or agenda application. Even when you click on the accounts and manually sync them will make no change. So to summar up, the only thing need to do, is to enable the auto sync feature at least one to let all of your calendar and agenda software aware that you have your own calendar besides Gmail calendar. And I dont know if this is a bug or not... Hope elelinux saw this post!
Glad you solve it!
By the way, if people didn't answer you, it's very likely they didn't know what was the issue..
