[Q] 2.3.4 Email Client - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

In the stock email client on 2.3.4 is there a way to have pinch/zoom working?
I am testing various SD builds and the HTC Sense email client does have pinch and zoom but would like to stick with the stock client.
So can it be enabled? I can't find anything in the settings.
TIA
Tony

+1 I am wondering this too.

Looks like there are no other replies.
I have been doing some research and find that K9 seems to be a decent client. I have not tried it yet but may download Monday or tueaday. It is a free email client.

I took a look at K9 when I was running a Desire HD based ROM but way preferred the Desire HD's email client. K9 was way OTT for what I wanted. The simplicity of the Sense client but with the features I wanted. Takes some adjusting going a bit more Gingerbread-vanilla!

do you remember if K9 did pinch/zoom? I agree the gingerbread native takes getting used to and the sense email client is quite good, but not available.

MS Exchange G1 vs Magic

Hi all,
Am I correct in thinking that the Magic will sync with a MS exchange server without additional software, where as the G1 requires a third party application?
If so, can the Magic version of Android be install on the G1?
Apologies if this has already been covered but I havent found a thread covering this despite yet.
Cheers
Pug
Hi,
Neither of the phones have exchange support out of the box. HTC had put exchange support in their Hero rom and people have ripped it out and used it in their own cooked roms.
Your correct there are 3rd party apps for using exchange in the market place.
Personally i dont have any recommendations for any of them though.
thanks,
Jon
The Android builds with Exchange support work OK, but it's pretty barebones in features, and you can't select folders other than Inbox and Sent Items to be automatically synced. I started using Nitrodesk's Touchdown and it seems to fit the bill.
Thanks for the answers. My brother has the G1 and was about to buy Touchdown and I should have a Magic by the end of the week, so we were hoping that if the has native exchange support, there was hope that the G1 would soon have it. We will look at the Magic exchange offering before buying Touchdown's solution.
Does the native exchange client software sync with Inbox sub folders?
Is there a review of Touchdown anywhere?
(I dont have an Android phone to hand quite yet)
Thanks
touchdown review
I pretty much swear by touchdown. It's got a lot of good features, exchange 2003 and 2007 support activesync/push support, sig support, calander view and creation support, and lots of other stuff. go to the market and try the trial version and see if you like the look and feel, but overall, it's pretty awesome.

I just said it doesn't. Touchdown is able to though.

Exchange functionality on Cyanogen?

Hi, I recently switched from MyHero to Cyanogen and am really starting to miss the Exchange functionality I had in MyHero. After configuring my works exchange server it would sync mails, contacts and calendar events.. extremely useful!
Now on Cyanogen I have "Work Email" which lets me check the mail on my works exchange server, but it;s kind of annoying as it's a different mail client, plus it doesn't sync contacts and calendar events.
Anyone know if I can get the exchange functionality from MyHero in Cyanogen?
Thanks!
Just got to work, a collegue has a HTC Dream which apparently has the full exchange funcionality.
How does my HTC Magic with a newever version of Android (and improvements by Cyanogen) have a crappier mail client than him? It makes no sense.
Please tell me how to get the full mail functionality I'm supposed to have
Just found out Cyanogen doesn't use the HTC Framework because it's not open source. Understandable but for me it's a deal breaker..
I'm starting to look for a new ROM..
I'm curious too about what ROMs offer full exchange functionality. So far, I've been using Hotweiss' Hofo ROMS, but those are 32a only.

It depends on what you mean by "full exchange functionality". There are many ROMs with Microsoft ActiveSync support. I have been most satisfied with the HTC Mail client running under Sense UI. I have an HTC Magic 32A device. I am currently using GyD 2.11. The HTC Mail client works brilliantly. Email, contacts, and calendar events sync. It is reported that 1.5 and 1.6 don't fully support the extra security layers on Exchange. Unless your company requires PIN lock/remote wipe, you can most likely use any 1.5 ROM to connect. Again, I have been most happy with the HTC Mail clients running under 1.5 cupcake builds.
You will not gain anything additional for work email if you've already been using Hofo Sense UI ROM. Hofo, GyD, MyHero, Mlign - they all have Exchange ActiveSync.

[Q] Is there an Email app with multiple exchange (EAS) support and HTML rendering?

Hi everyone..
The Q title says it all, are there any E-Mail apps for android out there that support multiple exchange activesync (EAS) accounts and can show HTML in its native form?
From my knowledge, the stock HTC mail app doesn't like EAS too much, Improved Email doesn't support HTML, K9-Mail doesn't support EAS, Nitrodesk Touchdown doesn't support multiple accounts!
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Anyone??? Moxier and RoadSync also only support one exchange account at a time.. Maildroid doesn't work with Exchange. I used Seven a while ago but it had partial wake problems (killed battery), can't download from their server right now but not sure it supports HTML viewing.. running out of apps!
That's exactly what I want in an email client too.
I think some people get html with the stock froyo email client with Exchange 2007. I'm using the stock email on my DROID (2.2) for my Hotmail and my work email (Exchange 2003?) and I don't get html or images. Some messages look like garbage without html... too bad.
I used K-9 for a while, and despite some bugs, it is a great email client. I hope K-9 supports EAS someday.
So, just all I can say and what I use is the stock FroYo, that support multiple EAS, I do use 2 different (Work/Home) as fine as it can.
Only missing thing, no tasks..... Gingerbread ??

Does it also support HTML formatting and images for you?
I use Improved Email at the moment.. which is apparently a modded version of the stock client, it handles multiple accounts perfectly, is good to the battery, allows unlimited mail sync (not just upto 30days) etc but it doesn't display Hotmail via EAS in HTML.. that's the only extra functionality I need, tried the stock Froyo client before and it obviously doesn't support HTML, wish they would add this in!
Hi there, any update on this ?
I'm stuck too with plain html tags all over my synced mails with froyo stock client :'(
The stock email app on the Droid X does this i believe. i can add multiple exchange accounts (i only have one so i can't test it but it doesn't stop me from adding another) it also renders html...

Huh. My guess is that your Exchange servers are 2007 or 2010. I have stock froyo on my original Droid, and I get no HTML for my Hotmail (activesync) and my work email (Exchange 2003?).
Most of the time it doesn't matter, but some of the email I get looks awful without HTML and requires a lot of scrolling. On hotmail, sometimes the HTML tags even appear in the message.

HTC Email Apk? Can I? Device Type Help?

OK I think I have finally figured out why the CM6.0 or CM6.1 email app does not work with my exchange server. My company loves to block unsupported devices. Aka the iPhone doesn't work only windows mobile is suppose to work by their documents. But i do know that they allow the HTC email app to work on the Evo, and when i was running CM5.08 i was able to use HTC Work Email.apk ... SO Palm, HTC , and Windows Mobile Device Type / Ids are allowed on the server, there is no way i can get the company to change those rules.
Does anyone know how to get a working HTC Sense Email app to work on CM6.1? IF so please tell me how.
Or if you do not think that will work, is there a way to change the Device Type or Device ID Fields for the stock android email app?
Please any help would be awesome. I love Cyanogen and don't want to switch to a sense mod, but my Exchange email is so important.
You can't use any Sense Apps on AOSP
Why the hell are so many people asking to use HTC apps on non-Sense devices??? IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! The only app that I am aware of is the HTC Music app. That's it! You can't use dialer, contacts, browser, twitter, friendster, weather, email, rosie, etc.
It's because of the framework and kernel differences. It'll be so much easier to create an app that is similiar to HTC's than to use the original. Honestly though... if you like Sense UI so much... get a device with Sense UI. It'll be much easier.
Personally i love AOSP, the only reason i was looking for it was because the HTC email app on sence is much better and free. Well and my company doesnt block that email app like they do the stock one.

[Q] Decent email client for hacked Nook Touch?

Hi all
I'm interested in hacking a Nook Touch because I'd like to be able to use the device for email - not necessarily GMail, I'd rather a generic IMAP client. With the ability to install Android apps I thought maybe there would be a good solution that has a touch screen keyboard and offline mode.
I'm not an Android user, nor do I have a Nook yet, so was hoping to get some opinions on the viability of this.
Thanks

There are probably a dozen different email clients you could use not including Gmail, you can look around on market.android.com and check out what they offer and such, or perhaps someone else can suggest one. I've heard a lot of people give praise to K-9 so that might work for what you want.
K-9 is the best email client for Android. It's incredibly powerful and 100% free
K-9 Mail is an open-source e-mail client with search, IMAP push email, multi-folder sync, flagging, filing, signatures, bcc-self, PGP, mail on SD & more!
K-9 supports IMAP, POP3 and Exchange 2003/2007 (with WebDAV).
