[REQ] LG Optimus Black Port

Hey guys,
I was wondering if any devs would be willing to try to port an official ICS Optimus Black ROM. Here's a preview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR3K12sh1OM
Don't mind the fact that it's a European release ROM; they're all the same around the world.
Because we haven't seen anything other than CM10 and LewaOS and MIUI around here, I was thinking we could
use something new. The Optimus Black is probably one of the most similar devices to the Defy in terms to hardware;
OMAP 3630 @ 1GHz, SGX 530, 512 LPDDR2, WVGA resolution, etc. (despite the fact that the defy is 854x480 while
the OB is 800x480)
There's already an effort to port the 3.0 kernel, possibly from the Optimus Black (LG was not as crappy as Moto and
actually gave the Optimus Black ICS with kernel 3.0).
I'll help as much as I can.
Yes, it could be cool... we only have CM10, CM7, MIUI, Blur based roms, and it' s so boring.
P.S. I don' t wanna discredit our Dev' s work, they are awesome :victory:
Optimus BLack & Galaxy SL are generic devices, while Defy/Milestone/Brave are CPCAP devices. Very different way how works USB and other stuff....
Thanks.
But no chance of porting or anything? We wouldn't mind the wifi and USB not working at first, as long as we keep on working to correct it. Half of all ROMs in this place start in that kind of condition.

[Q] Quick Question!

Hello guys!
I am a Nexus 5 user, would you recommend me to swap it for a LG G2?
I am looking for superior graphical performance / Smoothness, with Nexus 5 I get at max 34k on antutu.
I know that LG G2 has better battery life, camera and screen.
I will be trying different ROMs and kernels as I hate the crappy UI and should further improve performance.
Does it support ART and would it be as effective?
Have a nice day everyone!

It doesn't seem like the G2 will have ART in its upcoming KitKat update.
You have to ask yourself which kind of performance you want - is it benchmark performance (which IMO is useless) or is it real life usage? The stock LG UI works great and is indeed very smooth, but since the LG G2 and the Nexus 5 are very similar in terms of hardware, I doubt you will find any of those phones superior to each other
TL;DR - Upgrading to a G2 would give you better battery life, camera and maybe screen.
Thanks for the prompt reply

Does it have any overheating issues? They do have very similar specs.
so benchmarks don't reflect on day to day performance?
Whenever I activate ART it seems to cut back on alot of the Play store lag, is that existent in the lg g2?

There is no overheating issues if you don't mess with thermal throttling. The device will get "slower" in benchmarks when it's hot, but it still has a lot of processing power.
No, benchmarks do not really reflect day to day performance, the device is indeed smooth whether you score 29k on antutu or 36k.
LG G2 is still using 4.2.2 and that has no ART. It doesn't seem like it will be getting ART in the upcoming update to KitKat. At least for me, Play Store launches with just a milisecond delay. If that bothers you, stick to you N5.
Another thing, before you jump on the LG boat - LG is usually really slow with their updates. Last years flagship LG Optimus G is still running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - not that it ain't smooth, but if you like to stay up to date then keep your N5 or flash custom roms on your G2.
I hope this helps

Thank you very much for clearing this up!
I have used a lot of modern smartphones and none were as smooth as the Nexus 5. it is very apparent while scrolling in the FB app or the Play store.
Using ART it is close to perfect, I want to know if I will be the experiencing the same performance on the LG G2, are you currently using a tweaked out Rom? are you experiencing any scroll lag?
Sorry to have bothered you, you have been very helpful, Have a nice day!

[Q] CLOUDY

whats the difference between cloudy stock, g pro 2 and flex?
i know flex has a darker theme, but bar that. is there any features that make you want one over or the other or all mainly the same?

Basically:
CloudyStock = Optimized LG Stock ROM (Plain vanilla and optimized LG Rom)
Cloudy G Pro2 = Optimized G Pro 2 ROM (some stock apps and functions not present on other LG roms)
Cloudy Flex = Optimized LG Flex ROM (It has a dark interface due to the fact that the Flex has an AMOLED screen which benefits from a dark UI). * my favourite ROM *
Theres actually a third installment called Cloudy G3 which is basically an LG G3 ROM port.
Cheers!

LG stock roms are awesome in general, but there's always room for improvement, starting from the de-bloating of carrier specific stuff and other optimizations throughout.
Quite honestly I recommend you to flash them all and try them for yourself. I don't recall the specific differences, but I did try them all, including CloudyG3, and found CloudyFlex the best of them.
Cheers!
