Before I begin, I'd like to say that I know we have posted this everywhere.
The reason of this thread is because there are no real clear instructions on how to un-root, and there is no actual thread, hence the reason we get this question asked so much; something I want to eliminate.
How to UNROOT your Mytouch 3G Slide
[Optional] If you are sending back your phone to Tmobile for replacement, make sure you flash the newest radio out as of now. (this at the moment is 7.09) [/Optional]
1) You will need to download "ESPRIMG(2).zip" from this thread (This is all you need, you dont need anything else)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713507
2) Rename "ESPRIMG(2).zip" to: ESPRIMG.zip
3) Place the new renamed file ESPRIMG.zip in the root of you SD card (this means in no folder)
4) Power off your phone any way you like
5) Turn your phone on while HOLDING: VOLUME DOWN and POWER.
This will get you to a screen where you will need to wait for some loading. Let it load.
6) Once above step has finished, phone will give you some options. Hit VOLUME UP to confirm flash
7) It will take some time, and when it's done, you will be unrooted with the stock Espresso.
Credits go to: eugene373, xda-fourms, CaliBoyPhillip, and some guy I cant remember

I posted the ESRIMG.zip in the q&a section a few days ago, nice catch on the radio. I totally forgot about that for warranty reasons. This thread should hit the New Bible!

ask that in the Question and Answer forum of mytouch 3g slide.. im not too sure of what you're saying, and you'll get more answers there.
Hey Xologist,
Thanks for this post but I have a few things you might want to add on.
Your link to eugene373's ESPRIMG(2).zip works fine, but wouldn't auto update after a week. So instead of waiting to be updated I re-rooted and then un-rooted to 1.27.531.1 using the ESPRIMG that wegarner provided. After that I was able to do the manual OTA update without root.
wesgarner (1.27.531.1)
http://db.androidspin.com/androidspin_filedownload.asp?release=280&type=1
So after someone unroots they can just manually update(root not needed) to the current OTA via ChiefzReloaded's provided files.

Same file with a mirror. However, the google one ended up working for me.
I am assuming this will result in a factory wipe/reset as well, correct? I'm considering switching back to stock from Cyanogen 6.1.1 since it's unable to send or receive MMS messages for me but I'm afraid I may lose the pending messages if I revert back and won't be able to recover or view them.

Yeah it'll be a factory reset but you should still the messages as long as the phone hasn't actually grabbed them from the companies server. As for the actual issue, have you verified APN settings? I was having issues with MMS and data when I first flashed CM 7 and ended up switching to T-Mobiles alternate server to fix.

Thank you for confirming that this would wipe the device. I was also not aware that the MMS messages would still be retrievable if they have not yet been downloaded to the device (good to know!).
I see you have found my post on these forums in regards to my issue, so I will not get into the specifics in this topic, but yes, I have confirmed the APN settings several times now.
I've tried this, but I keep getting this error... "Main Version is older"
I need to unroot because I need to send my phone in for warranty service... my power button stopped working... makes it realy difficult to get into recovery mode or anything (impossible) but I can get into the boot loader
What can I do to remedy this?
Heck, if you could tell me how to corrupt the system folders I would do that so they couldn't tell it was rooted at all...
I've tried doing it this way and I extracted the file to the root of my SD card. But when I followed the steps, all it did was take me through like I was doing a reset of my phone. Didn't remove the actual ROM. Am I not supposed to extract it? What can I do to remove this ROM because I really don't like it on my phone.
you do not extract the zip file. you just put the ESPRIMG.zip file into your root folder. when you boot into recovery mode, the phone should automatically start searching for it (you might want to give it a little time to let everything load up). it will load (this will take a while) then press volume up to update when prompted. thanks to the OP for putting this up. you saved my butt, i have to return my phone for warranty replacement because the touchscreen and all the buttons stopped working.
Hey xologist, I'm sorry but I'm still very new to rooting. I've had some issues with the touchscreen and need to send my phone in for the warranty so I need to unroot it. What do you mean by flashing the newest radio? Where do I get it and how do I flash it?

you probably placed a different sim card in your phone because this phone is normally locked to T-Mobile. if you're on T-Mobile and want to use a different sim card, give them a call and they will get you an unlock code for free. if you thought you bought the phone unlocked (not locked to a carrier, T-Mobile), then it's not, return it to the seller or something.
I tried the esprimg.zip on the root of the sd card but every time it tries to apply it it says it is the wrong image and aborts. Any ideas?
no matter what i do i cant get it to install anything, i install and apply the esprimg.zip file, re boot, and still loads CM i may have forgot how to do all this fancey root stuff, i have Cm 7.1, can i pleeeease get a dummy version to unroot
Hi all, in a pickle here. I will be attempting to remove root and am on CM 7.1 stable. My obstacle is my volume buttons don't work. I'm removing root for warranty/return reasons, is there any way to go back to stock other than from the bootloader(sp?)? Thanks, all!
(2/12/12)So I ended up flashing CR's 2.2 rooted rom so that I could upgrade through HTC Sync to the 2.2 stock update. Thanks anyway
So, guys...here's a real challenge for all of you.
I taught my friend how to enable multitouch on Atrix 4G and I did mine correctly, but he tried editing the touchpad.cfg file using the Atrix, removed the READ permissions of file and restarted the phone. Obviously, the phone can't read the touchpad.cfg anymore and touchpad is not working at all.
Gladly (yeah, this is sarcasm), the Android won't let he do a factory reset because the Froyo version needs an extra step of TOUCHING the screen to complete the recovery command.
I tried accessing it via ADB too, but it requires you to TOUCH the screen and choose your USB connection type.
So, touch is out of question. Is there any way to access this cell phone and make the files readable again (or replace the files, whatever makes it working). The phone has USB Debugging enabled, if it helps.
p.s: sorry if it's been posted before, but I search the forum A LOT and could only find two similar posts that were unanswered. (Please, let's not make this one be the third. We don't need that.)
Have you tried fastboot? try turning off the phone and holding power + volume down until you see the word Fastboot then press volume up. You should be able to do whatever from adb now. Try that or an official update.
this should be in Q&A btw

Hey, Tayshun, thanks for the reply
I tried using Fastboot, but the device still can't be found by ADB shell. If you can point me some direction of what I may be doing wrong it would be great.
And I don't really understand when you say "that or an official update". How was I suppose to update the phone without touching it at all? Via Recovery Menu too? What is the option?
Thanks in advance

if you can't access ADB to push a file, and you can't get recovery to work to reflash a fruitcake, then you're only choice is to sbf flash a 2.3.4 gingerbread sbf. either that, or the pudding sbf if you wish to stay unlocked.
it will give you a fresh, stock state of the phone. if he is on Gingerbread though, you can ONLY flash those two sbf's, any others will hard brick your phone.
EDIT: I just thought of something, it's a long run but you might be able to fix permissions in Recovery mode, i don't know whether it'll work or not though.

Can you please explain me this idea of yours in more details? I think that all I need is to be able to communicate with the device without using touch. I read somewhere that using Fastboot, I could do anything via ABD, but even putting the phone on this mode, I still get "device not found" on ADB console. Maybe I'm missing some extra step. But again, if you could please explain me about this permission thing in Recovery Mode, it would be great, Alcapone. Thanks!!!

Hello,
tonite I spended my time trying to install a custom ROM on my new TF300T.
I unlocked the bootloader.
Rooted
Install Teamwin.
I did a total backup of my tablet, using Teamwin.
Then I tried to install Euroshank rom, that I have on my Galaxy Nexus phone.
Then everything went wrong, I felt in a loop...
I tried, lotsa thing, and finally, like an idiot I format my ROM.
Now when I open in normal way, I get nothing.
And when I boot in recovery I get a Teamwin that works very slow.
I knew it was possible that it would arrive one day...
BRICKED....
Am I bricked?
My wife told me it would happen...
Is there a way to fastboot a firmware...
Fastboot does not see my tablet...
Alain

Why will you try install a room not design for tf300t?

what they are about to flash, EVEN if the first post said "100% brick guaranteed" people will flash it and complain they got bricked.
SIGH......
OP you are lucky the device will still turn on, sounds like you are soft bricked and my be able to recover it,
I don't know what Teamwin or euroshank is so I cant help with recovery, but if the device will turn on there is
hope to recover it.

to flash with fastboot check out this post it is a guide to flash the the stock rom for a tf300g but it works fine for the tf300t
I have used this method a couple of times
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757077
just make sure you use the correct firmware for your device <--- this is very important
read through the sticky posts in the developement section, there you can find where to get the correct firmware for your device
also never flash a rom that was not made for your device, your asking for trouble
hope this helps
good luck
If you were to wipe everything in team win then restore your back up.......what happens?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
It it important to not flash the wrong firmware because the kernel for each make and model of device
is a bit different and has all the drivers for the hardware for that device and may not have the drivers for
another device built in, so if you flash the wrong kernel you can lose the use of some or all of your hardware.
especially the proprietary stuff.
The saga continue
I had an idea,
what if I try to put a rom on a memory card an put it in the memory slot.
IT WORKED!...
I went back to Teamwin an tried to install using external SD-Card, I choose cm-9-20120802-NIGHTLY-tf300t, and it seemed to install.
When I boot, I see the Cyanogen opening screen, then I get the following screen:
Encryption unsuccessfull
Encryption was interupted and can't complete. As a result, the data on your table is no longer accessible....
And there'a reset tablet button.
But when I select the Reset tablet button, the tablet reboots ans come back to the same screen.
Then I used Teamwin to fix permissions. The software told me that it would takes few minutes, when if fact took less then 10 seconds..
After I thinked of doing a factory reset Teamwin, but change nothing still have the same boot message...
I believe that on my way to solve this problem...
I'm crazy to fix it, as I have my wife's looking over my shoulder....
Thanks for helping all...
I feel less studip now...
And no, I didn't tried to install a rom for another system...
Alain
try the same with the stockrom, maybe this works.
If not try to get adb running.
Dl this tool:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/7XYW-4c4/WSG_UnBricker_TF300T_V102.html
Extract it.
Put your pad into recovery
Than connect it to your pc
run the WSGFlasher from the folder of the file you just dl.
choose option 5 for adbshell
tipe in this command:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 bs=100 count=1
if this runs type this 2nd command:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=16 count=1
Reboot your pad and see if everything runs fine
if not, just go back to recovery
open the WSGflasher again
choose option 2
than use option 1
for fully unbrick
let it run and see if this worked
if this doesnt work try get it in fastboot
dl this file:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/npKPgYok/WSG_UnBricker_Skript_no_Fw.html
extract it to C.\trecovery\
DL the latest Asus firmware and extract it 2 times.
Put the blob file into the trecovery folder
Press Vol- and Power at the same time to start the tablet
At the time the text appears on screen let both Buttons loose
Wait till the 3 icon appear
choose the usb icon with Vol-
Than press Vol+
connect your Pad to PC
run cmd
type
cd c:\trecovery\ and hit enter
then type:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
see if it runs
sometimes you will need many tries to get it succesfully running, just try again
Need 20 times one time my pad was softbricked.
try to flash Clockwork recovery (the correct one for tf300t) with teamwin.
then format all partitions except your sdcard
then flash cm9
should work if you got this far
then if it works, slap your wife on the but and say, see, i didnt brick it.
then get layed
Thanks, but as for now no cigar...
Hi,
thanks for your help...
Everything that you told me I was able to do...
But still there's that message about encryption...
And when I try a factory reset in Teamwin I get the answer that it's impossible mount /sdcard or /data
There's no way of doing a clean install on the tablet, as it's possible on computers?
I believe I better wait for answer before I do dammage of other type to my tablet...
I hope I have others answers...
Thanks again

Hi again,
As say my wife I'm really hard head...
But this time again I won...
Finally, with the hints of the members here I manage to get back my TF300T to work...
I short here's what I've done( there was lotsa more steps... but I'll keep it short.. ):
1-
I had a mount problem, and I don't remember where I saw this. But it seem that only the original firmware can be mounted and set as base system.
All others roms install over the base system (sorry if it's wrong).
2-
I installed back a fresh version of Teamwin (that for me is the best).
Downloaded the firmware from Asus, for my version. To know wich one I needed to look at the first line that appear on boot time (5 or 6 seconds) while the tablet waits for the recovery program to load.
3-
I copied an unzipped version of the firmware (thats the trick, the zipped firmware came in zipped). Where did I copied it, TO A MEMORY CARD... Thank Lord for a memory slot in this tablet.
4-
Then I installed the firmware, as I would install every other rom. But from the memory card.
5-
Et voilĂ ...
I can see the eyes of my wife that will say... " Not this time baby, but for sure it will happen..." And I'll answer with a smile... And I'll say... Not this time baby, I know that it'll come...:victory::victory::victory::victory::victory:
Again thanks to all, especially to those that told me that it was hard or impossible...

She has the right priorities, I would say! A good experience, you won't easily forget that you've messed up because of flashing the wrong ROM
I have an Acer 500a I just bought off carigslist. Initially I thought it would be fine but then I realized I was inheriting someone elses problems. I hope someone may be able to help.
Within the first few hours I was noticing google Play crashed a number of times and struggled to update from Market. Somehow the update went through but now there is a system update that won't go through. I'm able to down load it and when i restart the computer to complete installation the screen goes black and says: booting recovery kernel in the corner. I then see a picture of an android and a load bar which after 2-4 seconds the android is on his back and an exclaimation mark is coming out of his belly.
My android version is 3.2
Kernel version
2.6.36.3+
Build number
Acer_a500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2
I'm pretty sure its rooted and i think that might be why its not playing nice with google market and system updates. I called the old owner and explained the problem and he just said he had it rooted and he thought he unrooted it. There is an ap called superuser in aps. (although if it were rooted would'nt I be able to uninstal some of thecrap software it comes with like GOLF HD? -- it won't let me).
The system update is for Acer_a500_7.014.01_COM_GEN2 8.88mb
My problem is all of the force closes I'm getting and the inability to update the system. Any thoughts? I don't have a usb cord to connect it to a desktop either =(
I am a bit out of practice, but...
Should be pretty simple to fix. From what I am seeing, you are running a stock rom. Just because the superuser.apk is installed on the system does not mean it is rooted, but it probably is.
Hit the market, grab "Root Checker" - simple tiny program to let you know for sure if your tab is rooted or not.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=burrows.apps.rootchecker&hl=en
From what I understand - automatic system updates will fail when trying to apply them to a rooted or modded system. Probably why you cannot auto-update.
My advice at this point would be to:
1) Since you just bought it, just do a factory wipe on it. That will remove all the stuff the prior owner had running on it and will result in a unrooted tab that should be able to get auto updates without a problem.
2) Un-Root it. Once the tablet is unrooted, the system should update without any issue.
As for your Play Store issues - I have never heard of or personally seen any issues caused with installing apps from the store on a rooted device. I have seen a few apps that will refuse to run on a rooted device - but that does not sound like your problem.
I would go with option 1 - just factory wipe the thing. Prior owner may have made tons of changes to the OS that we will never know about, and may have handed you a unstable system. Start fresh. Wipe it out.
Hope this helps you out! Let me know if I can answer any questions.
k thank you so much for the quick reply! I downloaded the root checker and it Is rooted. I did a factory wipe as found in the settings privacy tab when I bought it. That factory reset did not unroot and only cleaned out some of the aps on the device. Is there a better or more surefire way to unroot it? If I reset with the volume down key will it hard reset it?
Thank you for you help!
Draight
Okay.
I am about a year out of practice with my a500 - but from what I am think, if a factory reset still results in a rooted device - the prior user installed a stock ROM that comes pre-rooted.
I highly doubt being rooted is causing the issues you are running into.
At this point if you just want to get back to stock you can probably just install the Acer Recovery Manager from the market and use it to reflash a stock unrooted ROM. Or I see a few guides about how to manually restore back to stock over in the dev section for the a500.
Others will correct me if I am wrong, but I think Acer Recovery Manager should take care of your problem.
Hope this helps!
(Edit: Or you can just download the official stock 4.x rom (ICS) from the dev section and flash that. 3.2 is pretty slow and wonky in my experience, you should be able to just download a 4.x ROM and flash, since you are rooted. Again, I am way out of practice. Don't do anything before reading up!)
(Edit again: I think I was making this harder then needs be. Just flash any stock 3.2 unrooted ROM, done. After you do that the automatic on the air update should kick in for you and update you to ICS)
Thanks for taking the time to work with me on this. I downloaded the program you suggested and tried to use a stock rom. When i went to reboot I had a picture of an android looking up at an exclaimation mark. It was froze like that until I restarted it. Now its back to the way it was, rooted and unupdatable.
I'm probably going to try to just wipe it all over but do i need to plug it into my computer somehow? I dont have a usb connector for the tablet, just the wall charger plugin. can i just download a rom and use the utility to try install it? when I reboot it am I supposed to be pressing the volume button?
I've read a few other forums but usually they sound pretty intense...

Hmmm..
Try the thread I linked two in my second edit of my last post. You just need to grab the stock and unrooted 3.2 - put it on a MicroSD card as update.zip - then reboot with vol rocker and power switch to get the system to flash the update.
That *should* work just fine.
(Edit: Forgot the link! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839313 - there you go)

Nope. Just snag the stock unrooted 3.2 ROM - place it in the root of the MicroSD card as update.zip
Power down.
Power up with VOL + and POWER key held at the same time (you can let the vol rocker go when you see text appear in the upper left corner)
Should be all you need to do. Worst case; it does not work and returns you back to where you are now. Worth a shot.
If that does not work, let me know so I can do a few mins of homework and help you further. Been a long time since I have changed ROMS or had any issues with my a500.
I have bricked it twice by not following directions all the way or just making simple mistakes, but from what I have found there is always a way to recover.
Just tried it. I copied the boot zip to sd card and renamed update.zip and reset..It looked like it was going to download after showing some text in the corner and then an exclamation mark appeared above the androids head... I left it and after a few.min it rebooted back

Update:
So I've been tinkering around with it a bit more and I found a usb cord that plugs it into my computer. I keep finding boken links on this site so Im struggling to find an update I can use to flash to. I downloaded a different super user program which allowed me to temporarily unroot my device. I then restarted it and no root checker says its no rooted and I cannot find the superuser program. I think I have somewhat unrooted it -- but I think the real issue now is the recovery tool. I keep reseting it - hard reset, or factory reset and it wipes everything away but when i try to update it gets about 1/3 of the way up the bar then it stops with an '!' Mark above the droid. Im kind of annoyed at this point and hoping for some new links or some ideas on how to repair the recovery piece.

Go to the Dev section, and grad a couple of the ICS Update roms. You will see them listed for the a500. Make sure they are the FULL update roms. Should be about 3-400mb. These contain a FULL ICS Update Rom, and not a patch file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
Then, go to the Themes and apps forum. You'll see a sticky that has the Acer Update Decrypter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869505
Now, unpack the decrypter, and select one of the ICS Updates. Then hit Start. Take a couple minutes, but you will have a duplicate file with the word "decrypted" added to it.
Wait, you are not done yet.
Using a program like 7zip, or even Winzip, open the decrypted file. DO NOT EXTRACT, just open it and pull the update.zip to your PC's desktop.
Copy that update.zip file to your Ext SD Card of the tablet. Don't be putting it in any folder, just copy it to the root of the card.
Now, you still ain't done.
With the tablet off. Press and hold Vol+ and then PWR. Hold them both untill you start to see text about installing blah blah blah, then release the buttons.
If it completes, and you can reboot into ICS, then you are good to go.
If something fails during installation, then decrypt the other update Rom file you downloaded, and do the same procedure. Usually one of the 2 or three should work for you.
Note these are for the a500, and not the a501.
One more thing. It's advisable you get your UID number before doing these things. You probably won't need it, but it's nice to have written down in case you need it in the future. Inf to get it is at;

Thanks! I am downloading a few of the FULL ICS roms:
*Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1 : http://d-h.st/uAy
Acer_A500_1.031.00_PA_CUS1: http://d-h.st/idO
Acer_A500_1.041.00_WW_CUS1: http://d-h.st/Yt5
*Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1: http://www.theandroidcollective.org/...00_WW_GEN1.zip
*Acer_A500_7.014.16_041.206.01_COM_GEN1: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_bk...hVc1RVcHc/edit
The I downloaded the ones ending with Gen1. Once they are downloaded I will continue with the instructions. Thank you so much for your help! I will post how it goes later tonight.

I just decrypted both:
*Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1:
*Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1
Both get get to the third bullet quickly and the bottom says DONE! It takes like 4 seconds. I don't think the Decryption key of $12 is working
[*] Opening file: Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1.zip
[*] Decrypting using key $12
[*] Writing decrypted file: Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1_decrypted.zip
I try to extract something from the decrypted file and it says the file was not downloaded properly and I should try redownload it...it says its not a proper archive
wahoo!
So that worked! I down loaded the file Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1 and extracted the update. I palced the update on the sd card and booted with the power and sound volume pressed down. it went through the installation procedure and restarted twice before saying it was upgrading my aps and BOOM its got ICS and everything looks great. Thank you so much for your help and I hope that this paper trail is able to help someone in the future
My problem is that I'm on ICS and I'm rooted, but I just can't download a custom recovery. I've tried, and I haven't gotten anywhere

My colleague brought his stock A500 to me in a bricked condition last week.
I need a way to restore it. If I try to do a wipe it will say bootloader error if i try the recovery the droid falls down with the red sign with the exclamation mark.
This tablet has never been rooted, my colleague is not in to such things, it's lived its life with ordinary acer otas and the occational very young human (5 year old) trial wich it has survived.
He has installed all the OTAs he ever got on the tablet and this is in Sweden so it would probably be a 4.0.3 acer stock on it now.
I'm guessing it has died during a OTA or something. if i turn it on it will sit at the acer logo indefinitly.
I Bricked my A500 during a rooting atempt resulting in me needed to flash a stock rom to get it working again, but i cant find the thread i read to un-brick my A500.
Please Help!

Well that thread seems to hold all i need, although i can't do a full wipe. when i do the flipswitch wipe procedure it halts with bootloader error
Im hoping to just be able to flash the stock rom from the link you gave me. Is it entirely necessary to do the wipe prior to flash? can i wipe it afterwards?

we're assuming the tab is full stock and currently on ICS...
and we're assuming he never tried to 'fix' his tab by flashing one thing or another...
the bootloader error worries me...what exactly does it say...
Yes the wipes are really important!! and not being able to use the button method to do so is concerning...
what happens with the Over The Air (OTA) updates is its just that...an update...it leaves all your settings/data intact. When you OTA from one build to another, like Gingerbread 3.0 to Honeycomb 3.1/2 and then to ICS 4.0 - you drag all your apps and settings with you and of course some things that work with 3.2 will not work under ICS....fjor instance, lots of folk had trouble with wifi disconnects, once they got to ICS - or they had apps force closing and other 'glitches'. This is why everyone tells you to do the wipes - as this fixes these things! In the case of stock ICS my gmail would f/c all the time no matter how many times I wiped/formatted....So for a smooth running tab - flash a custom rom!!!!!!
But getting back to you...
From that link i gave you...download the 3.1_Full.zip....its decrypted so just extract it and get the "update.zip" from it..
This "update.zip" is not an incremental "update" but the full stock rom....
once installed you'll be on GB you will need to root it with iconia root and then use acer recovery installer to flash cwm....(get these from the playstore)
do a backup or adb devices so you can get your CPUID....this is important...if anything goes wrong at any stage this is the only thing that will get you unbricked....see the cpuid link in my sig for more on this, please take the time to read it, even if it doesnt make much sense to you, read it anyway....
AFTER you have retrieved your cpuid, you can nvflash the patched bootloader/recovery pkg which means you are able to flash ICS/JB custom roms
they cannot be flashed via cwm like normal...you must use nvFlash to do it....
OR
take the OTA route to ICS...this takes a bit of time...I did it last week and it was a good 6-7 hours to go from GB to ICS
there are pre-rooted stock roms if you wanna stay stock see civato's stock rom thread for that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633907
official stock rom list by blackthund3r are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560

I am in a similar situation. Push the power button and it goes to a screen with white acer on black and stays there. Totally stock ICS, no root. I tried the update.zip thing and after automatically rebooting it says "Boot verified failed...". I don't have my cpuid, or have installed previously CWM or anything like that. I can get into APX mode. This guy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978 could only get into APX with no cpuid as well, but i don't understand all of the ubuntuu and command line stuff. I would love for someone to be able to walk a dummy like me through this mess. Thanks for any help.
if u got boot verified fail error you need nvFlash to repair that....as u know, with nvflash you need yr cpuid....wot about usbdeview? if you've never plugged yr tab into yr PC - then it won't work and the ONLY other way is Linux....
might be best to start yr own thread with a descriptive title, not just a help I'm bricked no uid, thread there are hundreds of those....the more effort u put into the title the more likely you will attract the attention of someone who can actually help...and remember you just don't need a bit of help but a blow by blow description of what to do and how....this will be very time consuming....at the very least get ubuntu installed, maybe just try a few things, anything to show you are capable of at least giving it a go yourself..
there are others who would like 2 know how to do this as well...having a specific thread of its own would be great
good luck

Actually, I have connected it to my PC before. Only for transferring media though. If I've done that, is the some way to retrieve my cpuid from the PC?
yup...usbdeview.zip see the bottom of the OP in the cpuid guide in my sig
Thanks alot for your help. I used usbdeview and got my cpuid. Now I should use nvflash? Know where a good step by step is for that one?
you could try the one in my sig??

Right. Sorry, I didn't notice that before. Thanks again for your direction.
"To install one of these roms you will need a custom recovery and to get that you must flash the patched bootloader FIRSt - once its patched you can install a recovery any old way you like"
Looking at that guide, would you please tell me what a custom recovery is and how to get one? Btw, I don't plan to do a custom ROM yet, I just want to get the damn thing working first. Was thinking of using the HC EUUs from the firmware files list. However there are two files, a .rar and a .exe listed. Which do i use?

The .rar EUU is for an A500, the .exe is for the A501, which do you have?
I've got the a500. However, I decided to go with a custom ICS rom after all. I managed to put a new bootloader and custom recovery on using the a500apx flash tool. That part went fine. I flashed this rom:
Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1-FULL-ROOT (original odex)
and that appeared to go well according to twrp, but after rebooting, it just shows the bootloader again and stops there. Not sure what i did wrong.
I renamed the rom update.zip. Should i not have done that?
well congrats for getting thru the flash process with no probs!!!
as far as renaming to update.zip that was not such a good move...hopefully things havent been screwed up too much
just go back into recovery and do a FULL wipe/format
then to flash use the option "install from zip file" not sure where that is in TWRP but it will have one
Okay. I will reflash the rom after completely wiping again. Thanks.
On a different note, why do roms require particular bootloaders?
Also different, how do you like your SGS3? If i can manage to fix this thing, perhaps I'll root my phone...

The stock ICS BL is encrypted - more or less - the only way to 'flash' a recovery or rom is to have the "key" that "unlocks" - it more or less - if you dont use the right key then the OS will not boot - the 'key' is based on your cpuid which is why everyone is forever telling you to save it somewhere safe....

I enjoy the big screen, took awhile to get used to it in my hand, kept dropping it....then I ran it over with my 44tonne truck after 3 days and munted it!!!!
I have a case for it now, and its gr8 - I havent installed a rom on it yet...the forums over there are jampacked and I have no idea what I'm doing, lol - its the first android device I've had that I've left stock for so long...but it does what I want...the camera is awesome -burst mode is the bomb - BUT do I think it was worth the money???? Still on the fence about that one.....
Ouch. Sorry to read about running over your phone. That would kill me. I really like my SGS3. I think I'll look into rooting it just to be able to back it up and get rid of the bloatware. I did that on my Captivate and prior to today, thats all I've ever done modding wise to an android device.
So, I managed to get my tab up and running again. Yay! I reflashed the rom w/out changing the name and worked like a charm. Now If only I knew why this happened in the first place... Thanks for all your help.

yeh sometimes happens with the tab for some reason - thank your lucky stars it didn't get stuck in apx mode...if that happens its normally a hardware fault so theres not alot u can do...I'm just pleased you got sorted without too much drama and it was as easy as reflashing the zip....so now you have the v8 BL - you're gold!!!

I googled your error - the consensus from what I read is a corrupt OS due to running OTA updates...
Some had luck with rebooting. Others had to send it to Acer.
Did you run the update.zip? so what happens when you run the update.zip
Are you able to get into "apx mode"? If you can, hook up to your PC and see if your tab is recognised as an "apx device" - check "Hardware, Printers in win7"
Thats all I can suggest atm - if your tab does get into apx mode OK then you can find your cpuid by running Linux -
Maybe ask the guy if he's ever had the tab hooked up to his PC like to transfer files and stuff - get him to download "USBdeview" to his PC -
this will show every single device thats ever been connected to the PC and it will show the "cpuid"...
Even if we do get the uid theres no guarantee it will fix the bootloader error - but we may as well explore all the options we can....
dibb_nz said:
USBDeview will only work when you have previously plugged your tab into the PC WHILE you were running HC Rom and BL
1. If you haven't plugged your tab into this pc before, do so now, before you run the program. HC ROM/BL ONLY
1a. Run the exe and you will be presented with a window of all the USB devices you have ever plugged into your computer.
2. Click on "VendorID" column along the top to sort them
3. Look for the number "0502" under Vendor ID AND "3325" Product ID
4. In the serial number column will be a 15-digit number this is your device ID.
5. Write the number down and put a 0 in front of it and now you have your CPU ID!!!
