Verizon Xperia Play to use 4g? - Xperia Play General

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Verizon-Son...0520411179?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item1e639f6c2b
The second picture shows the box of the phone with a 4g sim card notice. Could it be taking longer because Verizon is adding **** to the phone?

he said '3g'.
my orange UK simcard says 3g on it, if i put it into my samsung d500, will it magically have 3g?

Look at the official spring/summer Verizon catalog, it's only listed with 3G. Extremely doubtful they would publish those with incorrect specs.

How compatible is the atrix with T-Mobile?

Sorry if this has been answered but I'm on the xda app and can't search. I'm thinking about getting this phone and unlocking it to work on T-Mobiles network. How cross compatible is it? Will it work with the T-Mobile "4G"?

Nope, you will only get 2G (EDGE).
t-mobile and at&t use different 3G frequencies, so if you unlock it you will only get EDGE speeds. Not worthy IMO, you have lots of options in your country, i would recommend to wait for the samsung galaxy s II phone.
Will work on the network but data will be at Edge speeds, not 4G.

On the new Nexus S - if you run out of internal storage - what size memory card can you add? Oh, wait they left off the SD card slot on that model. But those super AMOLED screens are really easy on the battery right? Oh wait, if the screen is black they use less juice but not otherwise.
Sorry, had to pick on you. Suffered with the captivate for 8 months..... yeah i drank the Koolaid - now i know better - but samsung sure can spin it.

Just ignore him, hes been trolling all over the Atrix forums. The gyroscope in his phone apparently makes his keyboard so fast that he cant use punctuation.
Unfortunately NOT ...
Inspite every where they said you'll only get EDGE , I Saw one guy saying he got 4G on simple mobile which uses the TMO towers sometimes (both have same frequencies)!!!
I bought the ATRIX on TMO and for 2 days now only EDGE

nowhere do they say you can use an att phone on t mobile 3G. it's been known for years that their frequencies are different and incompatible. you just didn't do your homework before purchasing.

That code process is to unlock the phone to enable it to be used with networks other than AT&T. But that doesn't get you data speed any faster than 2G/Edge using an Atrix on T-Mobile's network.
I'm a little confused here. You guys are saying that the Atrix will only get 2G/EDGE speeds on TMobile because the frequencies are different.
I am currently using the Nexus One.. how is it that I'm getting 3G speeds with a phone that is compatible with both AT&T and TMobile then??
Doesnt this mean that the Atrix should be able to get 3G speeds as long as it has the appropriate software? or am I not understanding something..
There are 2 kinds of nexus ones.. one with AWS bands (tmobile) and one with the regular 850/1900 (ATT). That's why you see them work on both tmobile and att. But a single device won't work on both bands.
It is a hardware issue. No software flashing will be able to fix it. If you bought the wrong one then you're stuck with it.

False. There's not a chance in the world that is true. T-Mo USA and AT&T use mutually exclusive bands. No carrier-branded phones carry both bands. The only modern phone that carries bands necessary for 3/4G on either network would be the upcoming, not-for-sale/developer-only Nokia N950.

The Nokia N8 and E7 also have the 3G frequencies necessary for both At&t and T-mobile, as well as Europe/Asia (850/900/1700/1900/2100). However, I agree with you that no At&t/T-mobile branded device carries all the needed bands.

Ah, I see. I didnt realize that there are 2 types of the Nexus One.
I had assumed that since they are not branded by any carriers that they were all the same device.
Thanks
I was really hoping to have my TZones internet plan, which runs at 3G speeds on the Nexus, run on an unlocked Atrix but that doesn't look possible.
Are there any phones newer than the Nexus One that will work with Tmobile 3G and are unbranded by Tmobile?
The branded Tmo android phones lock out my Tzones.

Here's a list of phones that will work with tmobile 3G. Take your pick. You may have to source it from somewhere else if you wish to buy it unlocked and unbranded.
The Nexus S is unlocked and unbranded even if you get it from tmobile. But since you are coming from the Nexus One, it is up to you if its worth the upgrade. Other than the Nexus S, have a look at dual core phones.

Atrix on t-mobile
i am currently running atrix 4g on system version 4.5.141 and android version 2.3.6.. I am rooted and have and unlocked boot loader. I also got the unlock code for my phone and it was successful and i am now running T-mobile sim chip i am only getting the Edge .. I have a thought as if you could change the phone frequency settings with sqlite editor i mean if you can disable the entitlement_check to enable theathering with AT&T's 2gb plan then we should be able to figure out how to change the frequency ratings of the phone to be able to run on t-mobiles 4g ... I wish that someone with a little more Knowledge could help out with this..

Modify Verizon LTE

[Q] I wonder if there is a possible way to use my Thunderbolt LTE SIM in a Xoom or other LTE device Verizon? Also, I would like to know more about LTE frequencies. Like, if I cloned my Verizon SIM with a AT&T LTE Sims, would I be allowed to use AT&T devices on my Verizon account despite the obvious?
Why cloning? Unlock the phone, simple and easy. Sim cloning is getting harder every day, even the old 2g sims with latest encription is hard to clon.it may takes even days..
Lte sims can be used in any lte phones if the phone is not network locked. Remember that sim is not locked to a phone, the thing is phones can be locked to a network via software or cid or nand locking methods. Unlock the phone, use it in any network ( not applicable for cdma phones which can be used in cdma networks ONLY and dont have sim slots ) provided the phone have corresponding network reception bands( hardware limited/ very few times software limited, nothing can be done if u r hardware limited, but software limitations can be unlocked).

Verizon and AT&T both use the 700Mhz field for their LTE but is the small differences that won't allow Swapping
AT&T - 704 - 746MHZ
Verizon - 746MHZ - 787MHZ
Now if they eventually down the road overlap each other in an identical field then yes its possible but Verizon at the moment is using LTE for DATA only and using CDMA for Voice (for now) while AT&T uses both Voice/Data on its LTE.
But Yes you can switch Verizon LTE Phones all you want.. Your account is tied to the Simcard so swap away... I had an HTC Thunderbolt, bought the Rezound and just hot swapped the simcard without ever telling Verizon and it works .... Now I'm not sure if swapping LTE simcard between a tablet and Phone will work the same way.. I would figure yes since the Tablet is only going to use LTE.. but not 100%
It will work. I use my Rezound's SIM for the phone and my Novatel Jetpack. It shows on my account as the Jetpack, with unlimited talk and text.
Im using my Galaxy Nexus(cdma) micro sim in my "new" iPad, no problems.. unlimited data.. and I use Line2 app as my phone/sms. Im sure google voice sms might work for sms too.
Thanks. This is the answer I was hoping for

lte sim card

I'm new to at&t and even though I'm about a half mile from a tower both
Of my s3, s are using edge.
Don't lte SIM cards say 4g on them ?
Thank
Edit . When I web search the sku 72290
It tells me iPhone 4/4s micro SIM
i think you have to have the correct sim card and they also have to provision your card on the network correctly for it to work right....you should call ATT if your's isn't working right
Tough to say, I'd take it to the store I, work for att. Have them cover all the bases. Get a new sim to be sure its not faulty and have them check the imei for your phone on their end. If that doesn't fix it call customer care and request they re-register your phone. Once that is done if your having the problem still and others with att are getting good coverage its most likely your phone.

I think it's something to do with the porting.
Its now flashing hspa + 4g.
I know when I received my phone att had included a non lte sim I had to have it changed out at the att store.
Your SIM is probably OK but your account needs to be provisioned for lte.
Just to be sure you have the att model SGS III?

Another bad news for Sprint users and ...

another reason to believe that Sprint GN2 may not have SIM slot.
We already know that previously Sprint Photon Q (made by Motorola) have SIM internally and unremovable. Now we know that there is another Sprint device Optimus G (made by LG) that will have the exactly similar design as far as SIM slot goes. (source here)
With the previous picture purposely a leak of Sprint GN2 device showing no SIM slot, this is likely to be a Sprint own evil doing.
And BTW I'm one very pissed about this. I 'll definitely sending a snail mail to Sprint Executive Office about how pissed I'm as a consumer regarding turning an international capable device into useless crap once the device come out. I go to Thailand every year or so to visit family member and when I am there I would definitely want to use SIM there because of the local number I can use. With unremovable SIM this is no longer possible. I'm very disappointed.
That's sucks, although I don't go over seas that much.. It would be nice to have. Tell them you Ben kohn bah and your red shirt friends don't approve of this.

It appears that this is the route they are going now. I wonder why that is? Does using the embedded SIM force you to use a Sprint International plan, for out of country use?

You're right, but some CDMA phones have radios that support at least EDGE on GSM so you can still text and make phone calls overseas (and if you unlock, you could run them on Tmo and AT&T).
However, the question is if the radios will even support the EDGE GSM bands... probably not though.

All of Verizon's LTE phones have a SIM card slot and all of their recent phones also have GSM/HSPA radios for global roaming. I believe some can even run on T-Mobile and ATT's frequencies if you are lucky. But LTE will be Verizon only.
would it be possible to flash a Verizon Note 2 to Sprint in order to have one with a SIM card?
There are so much of competition in market, they skipping features users can easily find alternative. Bad for users but too bad for manufactures. They should understand
Not sure if you saw, but someone has figured out how to remove the embedded SIM in the Photon Q and replace it.

Yea, but whose brave soul gonna do that on not even a month old GN2. And that's beside the point. Seriously, to me it seem like it would cost the manufacturor even more to make the SIM embeded than regular one.

I mean how many sprint phones even support GSM EDGE bands?
I don't use Sprint, so I don't know for a fact, but don't their phones usually only run on CDMA (I've only ever heard of Verizon CDMA "world-phones")
I know that the old Touch Pro 2(wm6) and Photon 4G both have dual GSM/CDMA chip in them and they both have SIM slot.
whats the significance in not having a sim card cause it seems like a good thing to me. unless its like tmobile and att network where you can get gsm phones
The significant isn't about whether it have SIM or not. I mean for most people in the US I think we can get by w/o it. I mean it's like once every year or two that people would go outside the country and can make use of it. So it wouldn't be like a final decision whether to get one w/ or w/o SIM. And you are right there are also AT&T and T-mobile. But I can say the for some people it's about the network in their local, while for other it may simply be about not going back to the service they have bad experience with. To me it's about cost, since I'm a Sprint SERO Premium account owner. But very, it's more about why walking the low path? The phone would have been technically capable of it, the chipset, modem, antana support it. This is more about why purposely redesign it to lock it down to a specific network, greed, basically.

Yes, the Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 most certainly had a SIM card slot. I had a few of them before making the jump to android with my EVO 4G. It was a nice feature to have on a "Business" phone, which is what the TP2 was geared towards. The productivity of the Note 2 also can be geared for Business users, a SIM slot would be of great use.
Ohh okk that makes sense. Cause I never go out of the country so its not that big of a deal for me. But I guess I'd you travel a lot it would be better to have one

Apparently Verizon figured out how to do it properly as they previously have had CDMA, but now allow removable SIM cards for their LTE world-phones. Sprint is now the only provider that locks their phones down like this- it's very frustrating. I am paying for a brand new device that is inherently compatible as a world-phone, but I must buy a separate device to use over seas so that I don't get raped with Sprint's international calling/data plans. RIDICULOUS! These kind of tactics are out of the apple playbook- limit the options of your customers, so you can squeeze em.

(Q) GSM settings on VZN

Is there any reason that the VZN rom had greyed out GSM settings. Does this mean that there are antennas that can be enabled with drivers or a SIM from ATT or TMobile?

The phone is a world phone which means you can put in any gsm SIM card and it will work with the Bands that the phone is equipped with. I have used it on T-Mobile and metropcs successfully so far.
Also the area is greyed out because Verizon doesn't have a gsm network for cellular use. Yet. Their LTE is deployed over gsm but it is data only.

Verizon would have GSM settings grayed out because it is not applicable to their network at all. The phone would come carrier locked so if you pop a sim card in from say TMobile then the phone still wont work. However if you were to unlock the phone (currently illegal last I heard, might change in a year or so though) it should theoretically work on ATT and TMobile and other GSM networks, although you may or may not have to manually input APN settings to get the network data working. The stock Verizon ROM though may also not include drivers for activating those radios bands wither, IDK if that is something they would do or not. All the versions of this phone use the Snapdragon 800 chipset, which has built in radios that can hit basically any network's frequency in the world.

Well at most only a small part of what I said is wrong so thanks for trying to correct me in in a very dickish way. Unfortunately you are also wrong, not all Verizon phones come unlocked from them.
digitaltrends.com said:
AT&T will let you unlock your device permanently, provided your contract has already expired. AT&T customers still on contract may unlock their devices up to five times per year (for international travel purposes), as long as they don’t owe any past-due amount on their accounts, and have been a customer for 60 days or more.
Verizon sells all iPhone 5s unlocked, meaning you could take your device over to AT&T or T-Mobile without having to unlock the device. But other devices, like the Samsung Galaxy S3, are locked by Verizon. However, like AT&T, customers in good standing can request to have their devices unlocked for international travel.
Sprint does not offer unlocked devices, but it will allow customers to unlock their devices for travel after three months with the carrier.
