hd videos on my nexus not showing .. 720px

I read somewhere in this forum my fone plays 720px hd videos (normal profile) .. recently I downloaded a hd video from YouTube (keepvid.com) and transfered it to my phone .. when I try to play it from my gallery, I can hear the sound but the video is blank as in just a black screen .. the video quality is as shown : 1280 x 720px h264 29.967fps 1999kbps bit rate and audio: aac 124kbps 48 khz .. anyone knows wat the problem is or am I missing out something ? maybe because of my class2 SD card ? currently using class2 8gb micro SD .. I can play 800 x 480px videos though ..

its because the nexus one only supports up to 800 x 480 resolution i believe.
Playback of HD vids 720p isn't yet supported... Its a part of Desire ROM by MoDaCo but the feature is still unusable on n1..... but soon it will be... check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636048 and read the So what works?
You can play 720p videos. You have to convert your 720 with handbreak. Use the ipod profile on handbreak and resize the video back to the original *** x 720 resolution and nexus will play them...note nexus wont actually run at 720p no matter what since the screen is only 480x800 its not possible.
Yes Nexus can easily play 720p videos.
But it can't play "main profile", neither "extended profile" or "high profile", only "baseline profile" .
First of all you got to ask yourself, why even try to play 720p?
That high of resolution on screen this size seems pointless to me. The 800X480 resolution looks great. Maybe people have told me that my DVD quality encoding looks like HD. I just tell them yep while laughing in my head.
Higher resolution only starts to matter when you have a bigger screen.

its not just about playing it on the nexus.. u see I want to be able to use the same hd videos I watch on computer and the nexus .. that way I don't have to encode my videos again just to make it work on my fone .. make sense getting the best out of both worlds? I have been trying to use handbrake but I think I messed up with the details .. I will try again using ipod profile ..

[Q] mhl adapter 24p movie playback

hi folks,
i've seen on the forum here that the new mhl 2.0 adapter outputs video at 60fps. can this be changed or is it fixed? i output mkv HD movies hdmi from my laptop and need to set it to output 24p to get smooth playback on my TV. if i set it to 60 the playback is not as smooth. so can these new adapters do 24p? or maybe at the default 60fps movie playback is smooth anyway?
thanks!
60>24 so 60 fps is smoother. 24p is the original frame used for films,if you need the original/untouched effect you need 24fps. Otherwise the 60 is smoother. Btw, your TV knows 24 p?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium f
I set my laptop to output 24p which is actually 23.976. most mkv movie files are 23.976 fps. My lg tv recognises this and plays it back flawlessly. I'm looking for a solution for the s4 that works as well as the laptop. So hoping that the mhl adaptor will allow me to set the output to 24p (23.976) as well. Anybody got any experience with this yet?
judder
well i finally got the samsung mhl 2.0 adapter today. unfortunately it was as i feared. 24p and 25p playback is juddery. its not terrible but its there. the s4 is sending 24p movies out at 60hz leading to frame rate mismatch. you'll notice this most on panning shots and such-like. does anyone know of a way to get the s4 to output 24p with this adapter? the tv tells me its receiving 1080p 60 from the s4 no matter what.

This is the only comment I can find in this subject anywhere. I have the exact same problem. My s4 is trying to play a 24fps movie on an mhl lead with a 60 output and it judders badly on panning scenes. I find it amazing that no one has even commented properly on this let alone suggest any solution. Does every single smartphone user simply not really care about the judder?

couldn't agree more. i've given up trying to get the s4 to playback to my tv thru this adapter. seems astonishing when so much material is 24p. i just ordered a chromecast and will see how that goes with plex.

Ok post your results if you get a chance. The Apple TV also works with an s4 with the right app (apparently. I haven't tried it)
Hi everyone. Has anyone found out a solution to eliminate the judder effect and have a perfect 24p output in our S4?. Thank you.
please, nobody?. Thanks

This isn't a solution more of a realisation that I think the problem is with the s4 not the mhl lead. If you play the video on the phone and look a little closer at it you see the same motion judder. On a large tv this judder is magnified and is more noticeable. But the judder playing HD or mkv files is something that is there in the s4 itself. It seems there's virtually no one that's bothered by it so a fix is highly unlikely.

1080p Video Playback on xperia play

Hi I have recently tried to play 1080p movie using mxplayer on my xperia play. It is running the krisdee nxt lite rom v1.3. I have tried overclocking to 1.4ghz but that didnt work. Can someone help me on this? Thanks
Why playing a 1080p movie, our pkay doens't even have this resolution. If you played the video it will be laggy.
You could try reencode the movie to 480p. If you don't care about quality, Total Video Converter is basic enough. (used it waaay back at 2009, not sure how is it now)
MediaCoder also seems to be able to do the job albiet slightly more advanced.
You could also stream the video using Emit or something similar. (used it quite a while back but didn't work as expected)
Hope it helps.
Hi thanks for the quick replies, at the moment I convert my movies from 1080p to 720p, as most of my movies are blue ray rips. They work perfectly at 720p. I tried 1080p but they are jerky and the audio is not clear. To save conversion I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get 1080p working smoothly. Thanks
As mentioned in the previous post, you could try Emit.
Look up google play store and see what other similar apps there are under their recommendation.
I'm sure there's something for this requirement.
Anyone have any more ideas?
hehe
xperia play does not support 1080P playback
The Xperia Play screen resolution is 854 x 480, so 1080p are useless
If you tried to play 1080p video, wouldn't there be black lines across the top and bottom?

Nope, as the Play's screen is 16:9 just like videos, so no black bars unless it's part of the video itself.
I never could get 1080p videos to run smoothly on mine, so I just used Handbrake to reencode it to 480p, as the screen is only 480p anyway.

[Q] 4K output

I've asked Mad Catz but not had a reply. I'm looking for some info before I buy.
The MOJO is meant to be a 4K console, however I'm struggling to find any more info about this, does it do actual 4K or does it do like most cheap Android TV hardware and downscale 4K to 1080P internally before upscaling at 4k?
Can it play 4k HEVC (h.265) at 60fps? (the UHD standard)
Does it have HDMI 2.0?
cheers for any advice.

Hi,
Sorry, I don't have a 4k tv to tell you.
Why would any device (cheap or expensive) downscale from 4k and upscaling it back to 4k? doesn't sound right to me.
Do you mean just upscale 1080P to 4k?
Does it have HDMI 2.0?
I doubt it, as it come out only a month before the mojo's launch date.
But it does support 4k
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
I know it supports 4k, but that doesn't mean anything, a lot of devices do but all they mean is that they output at 4k (upscale), I need to know if it renders a 4k video at 4k and output it at 4k, if all the mojo can do is output 4k then it plays a 4k video at 1080p as that's all it can handle (downscaling it) then output at 4k, there just seems to be no info and their web page isn't clear at all.

The page is pretty detailed with tech, It's native support at [email protected] fps, 100% no doubt for me.
http://madcatz.com/4k-coming-to-mojo/
They even give visual proof:

Above, QI’s Todd Margolis shows Blender’s 4K CGI Demo Video Tears of Steel playing on M.O.J.O. Download it yourself from here and watch it in 4K. It’s free!
We used the MX Player app which supported .mov, .mp4 and more 4K file types. In our tests, we noticed some dropped frames only when bit-rates got higher than about 70Mbits/s."
You can use the controller as a remote, and it doesn't look fake to me, maybe his grin, lol.
I Imagine if a 1080p was upscaled to 4k it wouldn't look as clear as it does in that image (I can't see any pixelation, can you?) .
I doubt MadCatz would go to the trouble of testing it and make a page like that if it was just upscaled from 1080p.
Try asking on amazon, good luck
Edit, or ask Todd yourself: http://toddmargolis.net/about.php
His twitter, etc are at the bottom.
It does not have hdmi 2.0 so you will be limited to 30 fps.

[Q] low resolution just getting 720p on Optoma GT750 HD projector

Hey all,
I know a lot of people have the same issue when connecting to a projector or receiver that they get a resolution between 480p and 720p because of the edid.... is there a way to fix this i mean is 2015 all of my products work just fine on 1080p with my projector except the NP thats a bummer. Is google gonna fix this? Or does anyone found a solution?
Thnx!
No fix so far. I'm having the exact same issue with the same projector. The 5.1 update atleast fixed the HDCP problem so we atleast dont get a black screen with audio for Google Play Movies/Netflix etc.. But still low resolution. Some people have done a temporary fix using a Google TV device that has HDMI passthrough. Also are you sure you are getting 720p? The GT750's native resolution is 720p. Meaning its 1280x720. My projector displays 720x480 from the Nexus Player.
