[Q] Factory Reset Help - Galaxy 3 General

My cousin downloaded something to his phone and it's causing a force close menu to appear as soon as he turns the phone on and it becomes unresponsive and nothing works, (screen, capacitive buttons, volume rockers).
Is there a way I could factory reset the phone? Like using adb or something?

With phone off press VolUp+VolDown+CenterButton+Power and hold until recovery mode is on.

BTW are you using a custom rom or froyo?

New here HELP

Hi, My friend has a droid x, and I tried to install the galaxy S theme on it for him, and it installed fine, but when I turned on the phone it would boot loop, (running stock Froyo) so I told him to wipe data/Cache, and now the phone won't get pass the galaxy s logo, what do I do?
Im also new at this so just making a suggestion. Hold the power button and home button down at the same time. A triangle with exclamation will appear. Press the search menu button. Use the volume buttons to scroll up or down. Could try wipe/factory reset if you have everything backed up or easy to reload.Once scrolled down to that option hit the camera button to perform the operation. I guess u pulled the battery first to see if that would reset? Again Im new at this and have done it myself but try at your own risk if there are no other replys.
Try that. If that doesn't work you may need to sbf your phone.

Clockwork recovery trouble

Whenever I try and boot into clockwork recovery via bootstrapping, once past the "M" screen, the screen goes black. I've re-flashed recoveries via rom manager (yes i am a premium user) I have SBF'ed like 10 times today, in hopes and trying to get a perfect install yet something always goes wrong
Right after the SBF, when phone reboots, reboot back into recovery (home and power) and clear cache/data. See if that helps at all
I've never had much luck with ROM Manager.
Try downloading 'Droid 2 Bootstrapper' from the market.
After installing it press the 'Bootstrap Recovery' button. Press 'ok'.
Now press the 'Reboot Recovery' button and let the phone reboot.
(Be sure to get DROID2 bootstrap not DROIDX bootstrap.)

ROM manager is not able to do much for the droid x. Use other apps
I am having the same problem. A customer's daughter was using my phone and somehow opened the Rom recovery. When the phone rebooted it now loads to the boot screen says droid and restarts. I can't seem to get it into bootloader to recover the phone. Any ideas?

Try pulling the battery.
Place it back in the phone and hold the power button and home button simultaneously.
When the image of the DROID with an exclamation mark comes up press the search button. When the recovery menu comes up choose to wipe data. Navigate with the volume rockers and select with the power button.
(If you have Gingerbread installed you will press the volume rockers instead of the search button to enter Recovery Mode.)
This should fix your problem.

I've tried that but when it restarts it just goes through the same process over and over. The only way to stop it is to pull the battery.

SGS i9000 international, OK middle button is dead when the phone is on

Hi, I've been using Gingerreal 5.x with darkcore 2.6 for few weeks. I'm aware that JVH has this middle button bug which you need to press at least twice to get it works.
However since yesterday the middle button doesn't work at all. The funny thing is I can still run the download/recovery mode. But when the phone is on, the middle button is not working, not even in CWM mode. I cannot flash through CWM and root anymore :'(
Has anyone experience the same problem ? is it a software bug or hardware ?

This is a software bug, you can't enter Download Mode without all three buttons, yet you can which means that the button it self works when not controlled by the software that you have installed on your device.
I have never heard about the middle-button bug before, anyway not on stock firmware.
Flash a stock firmware using Odin, then do a wipe data/factory reset and you have a big chance that your device will work as it should again.
I did flash stock ODIN JVP but still did not get my OK button work properly. It's totally unusable, except download/recovery mode.
Now my phone stuck with stock ROM since the recovery mode only support OK button to enter menu.

Take the battery out and place it back and turn the phone on and let it boot all the way, do a factory reset from Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset
I hope that this will solve the problem that you have.
Factory reset didn't fix the problem. My middle button still not working, not even in CWM mode :'(

nope, but if you flash back to froyo it will rule it out...it must be a hardware issue if it still fails to work..

Going back to froyo did not solve the problem. Is that mean I need to send my phone to service center. It's really weird since I don't have problem entering download/recovery mode which need middle button

well it seems the only option, if multiple softwares fail to fix the problem you may have to...but as you stated if the phone enters recovery and download mode that is rather strange :/

[Q] Bricked S4?

I seem to have bricked my S4.. Here's what I did... I was flashing the KT kernel, and accidentally downloaded the wrong version. After flashing, my phone will do nothing more than sit on a black screen and vibrate every 2 seconds. I used Odin to return to stock, and it completed successfully. It still does nothing more than sit on a black screen and vibrate. Can anyone help? Sorry for the new thread, but I'm desperate. Thanks for any help.
Have you tried using kies?
Pull your battery and wait a few seconds. Reinsert the battery and press the recovery combo (vol up + home + power. Release just the power button when the device vibrates and you see the blue script in the top left corner of the screen). If this gets you into stock recovery, wipe data, cache and reboot.

I've been having the same problem and have tried this method numerous times with no results. The phone simply will not boot into recovery, even after restoring to factory using Odin. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm at my wit's end.
Another person had a very similar problem last night. He was able to use kies to get the phone working. Give that a try.
Edit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45207338
It won't go into recovery at all. I'll be trying to restore with kies tonight, and I'll post results. Thanks guys.

So kies didn't go so well. It will not connect to my phone at all. I've tried in download mode, and it just will not connect. Any other ideas?

I had the same exact problem. Someone told me to rewrite the partition table and flash but I don't know what that means and the person who suggested this failed to elucidate. It's crazy that there's no info on this situation ANYWHERE.
I've been digging, and digging, AND DIGGING, and I haven't found a solution other than JTAG and RIFFBOX. I've read good and bad things. Looks like this phone is now a paperweight. Maybe one day there'll be a not-so-ridiculous solution.

[Q] Returned to stock, cannot enter recovery!

I wonder if anyone can help me here, i have successfully returned to stock following this guide but have a big problem. I cannot get into recovery at all to do the factory reset. My phone boots but an error message pops up saying system.ui not responding and it does not go away, it needs to be factory reset but i cannot get into recovery. Is there a way to flash the stock image and reset the phone via R&D tools? or is there any other way to reset? any help would be appreciated.
What Rom did you flash because on some Roms to factory reset you have to be fully powered off and then hold volume down+power when LG logo shows up hold power button+volume down while for others you have to hold volume up+down after LG logo
