New here HELP - Droid X General

Hi, My friend has a droid x, and I tried to install the galaxy S theme on it for him, and it installed fine, but when I turned on the phone it would boot loop, (running stock Froyo) so I told him to wipe data/Cache, and now the phone won't get pass the galaxy s logo, what do I do?

Im also new at this so just making a suggestion. Hold the power button and home button down at the same time. A triangle with exclamation will appear. Press the search menu button. Use the volume buttons to scroll up or down. Could try wipe/factory reset if you have everything backed up or easy to reload.Once scrolled down to that option hit the camera button to perform the operation. I guess u pulled the battery first to see if that would reset? Again Im new at this and have done it myself but try at your own risk if there are no other replys.

Try that. If that doesn't work you may need to sbf your phone.

How To: Format Droid X to Factory Default

I had to call VZW to find out how to format my Droid X, so I figured I would share the info for whoever needs it down the road.
To Format:
1)Turn off the phone
2)Hold the Power Button and the Home Button. The Moto logo will pop up followed by a triangle with the Android symbol next to it.
3)Press the Search button to display the menu.
4)4 options will pop up, use the Volume Rocker to move the selection up or down.
5)Select “Wipe Data to Factory Default.” Select the option by using the Camera hard key.
6)Confirm choice by using the camera key.
7)It will take you back to the original menu, select "Reboot Device"
You will have to re-program your phone with OTA updates.
1. Thats the recovery window. Not needed for a factory reset.
2. To do a proper factory reset follow these: 1.Go to Settings 2.Scroll to Privacy 3.Click Factory Data Reset 4. Confirm action by clicking Reset Phone.
If i am rooted and have deleted apps like blockbuster ect. Will this interfer with making like it just like it came outta the box???

Factory reset should make your x just as if you got it brand new bloatware and all. Also remeber this will cause you to loose root. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Factory Data Reset is a tool used to remove everything that was imported, added or installed on the device.
Factory reset will not bring back any factory apps you've removed or renamed. Basically it clears /data and /cache, it does nothing to /system/apps where the factory apps are installed.
Also if you've removed or renamed Back-Up Assistant and do a reset, you'll end up with a semi-bricked phone.
This is what the verizon tech told me to do, and it put my phone back to the exact same state that it was in when I got it out of the box from vzw.
I figured someone would need this information eventually.

NO. DO NOT WIPE IF YOU REMOVED ANY BLOAT APPS.
If you do this you can kiss your phone goodbye.
Read this thread to tell you how to put back the apps the RIGHT way before you wipe, otherwise, you will be without a phone.http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/1462-how-put-back-backup-assistant-if-you-removed-but-arent-bootlooping.html

Can this work with rooted phone?
Ok kids.
This will remove root if say...all you've done is used z4 to root...and installed some root apps.
DO NOT attempt this if you've removed bloatware or installed a Rom or theme.
Safest bet is to sbf...re-root...flash maderstock...and re-sbf.
That's what I've always done. And I've had best buy fix my phone twice now.
They've never mentioned a thing.
The reason I flash maderstock is some boot animations are kept with just an sbf...
its just a precaution I take.

This is true if your phone was completely stock to begin with (other than downloading apps). For those that have modified their phone in any other way, this will not bring your phone to an "out of the box" state. You must sbf for that and then factory reset.

can one of the moderators remove and/or re-title this thread?
the op is very misleading and potentially harmful...
I think its great that he tried to help the community by creating a how to thread, but... yea...

yeah i have to agree; the title is really what I expect most people would believe to have an entirely different meaning, ie an sbf or complete removal of all ROMs, bootloaders and most importantly, the super user icon in the app drawer.
Can someone explain what SBF is I have to get a replacement x due to a broken camera button and. Im rooted

Tap Power button hard key to confirm the selection and start wipeout of phone, handset will begin to format handset showing progress with multiple lines of ellipses (....)
Handset may take from 5-20 minutes to format.
When format is complete, Tap Power button when prompted to reboot (Reboot system now will be highlighted)
You will see either an open box and the green android graphic when handset is rebooting (or the red DROID eye graphic).

Quick stuck in boot loop

I downloaded squidly's new rom and then i downloaded a kangerade theme, now know they obviously don't mix. My phone will turn on and act normal and then restart and keep going through a boot loop. Is there anything I can do? Please let me know right away, I'm kind of new to droid 2 since i just switched from a D1 please help.
You will most likely have to SBF. did you do a nandroid before installing the theme?
I do, but I don't know how to sbf, I have nanadroid, but to be honest i probably messed my phone up even more because I did a factory reset (X and power button, search bar.) I get into the android set up screen and Kangerade is STILL on... It does the continuous loop again...

Try these steps first.
Code:
1. Pull your Battery.
2. Replace battery and power on while holding down the X key.
3. Wait for the android triangle to load.
4. Press the Search key (the magnifying glass)
5. Use down arrow and navigate to wipe cache partition and press OK.
6. Use down arrow and navigate to wipe data and press OK.
7. Reboot phone.
If this does not get you out of the bootloop you will need to SBF. Please see this thread:

Thanks, it didn't work, I'll try that thread hopefully I can get it all figured out still a little confused though. Thanks for the help.

[Q] motorola bravo stuck on motorola boot screen

im trying to get my Motorola bravo out of the motorola boot screen. i rooted my phone with superonclick. that wasn't the problem, what was the problem was that. i wanted to install a new font on the system. i changed the file name because i read this stupid artical about doing that. and now i am stuck on the Motorola screen. i have already wipe/factory reset and called at&t and they say i can return the phone and get another. but if there is anyone out there that could help with this. then i would be a verryyy happy person! cause i wanna do this and get back to my live
Out of curiosity...What method did you use to wipe data/factory reset?
I found myself in this situation a couple of times and factory reset + wipe data worked.
Just so we are on the same page, what I did is have phone completely off, press volume down and hold, then press power button till Motorola comes out, then release both buttons.
Android robot with yellow triangle comes out. Press the lower right hand part of the screen and you should see a few options on the top. Use up and down to select factory reset and wipe data, press the bottom portion of the screen to confirm, touch the OK a few times if you feel the bar isn't moving.
Then you should be prompted that your phone has been reset and you are OK to reboot.

I'm having the same problem, but nothing happens when i press the lower right hand part of the screen.
I rooted it with superoneclick. the problem arose when I tried to flash a bravoX rom. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Try using the volume rocker. If you press them both at the same time the menu should come up.

Droid X GummyJar Help Please!!! Need major help.

Hi, i installed gummy jar from the rom manager and even made a back up and everything, and now when I turn the phone on it sits at the gummyjar boot screen animation and does nothing, what can I do? Please help me, I am freaking out.
If you're flashing a new rom the inital boot up will take some time to finish... maybe like ~5 mins

Agreed, give it some time to initialize everything. If after 10+ minutes you have nothing... pull the battery and replace it. Then hold down the menu button while pressing the power button. When the image of the little android guy comes up, push the search button. This should drop you into the stock moto recovery screen. Use the volume up/down buttons to navigate, and the camera button to select. You will want to choose the wipe data/factory reset option. Then try rebooting the phone and see what happens...
Edit -I totally didn't read the previous post that said the same thing.

To get to the stock recovery to wipe data and cache, hold the power button and x on your keyboard. When the triangle comes up, press the magnifine glass to get to the recovery menu.
If that doesn't work, you might have to sbf

P3Droid said earlier that the first gingerbread release had a dev recovery, which wouldn't work on our phones, hence why you couldn't get in it. He has recently released another gingerbread with the regular recovery.
