I have spent the last few hours searching. I flashed the recovery-ra-heroc and let it set for a few minutes, reboot recovery, and it just sits on the black screen with "HTC" I remove the battery, restart the phone while holding down the home button (yes, holding it down firmly, lol), and it just gives me the option to clear storage on my phone. I am really wanting to get a rom on my phone, speed it up. Yes, I used the search function on this forum. I really dont want to go back to the RUU and lose everything on my phone. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be extremely greatful!!!
I would try rooting it again and follow the process step by step. Sounds like something wasnt done in the process.

Sounds like you should try to reflash recovery. I think you are only getting into fast boot. You aren't holding any other key with Home are you?
That sometimes happens to me...i just click on the green/call button to cancel n when the htc screen comes up i push Home n End...n hold it down..sometimes let go of it n push them again and it'll work...not sure, but i think this just happens with the newer recovery image.
no, not holding any other keys. I rooted a while back with the chuckrhizco (or whatever?) method, and had no issues. went back to stock to get ota update. I still have the old recovery image, think I will just try to flash that one.
just had an issue withthe other recovery image. Flashed the 1.2.3. and it worked, nandroid backing up now!
I just got a NexusOne last night from someone who had already rooted it. So I went to erase all data on the phone and now it will not boot up. The phone will just stay at the boot animation. I do not have any of the software on my computer, nor do I know how to get it.
If someone on here can give a step by step instructions on how to fix this I would be super thankful. Also I have tried all of the volume down fixes. I just end up on a screen that says fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock with 3 little green droids at the bottom.

Don't panic too much.
If you can get that far it isn't bricked.
I can only assume you have some sort of recovery also?
You need to put a rom on your SD card and boot into recovery and flash the rom.
Make sure you wipe again before hand, including the dalvik cache.
All should be good then.
1. Download selected ROM (Cyan, Modaco...etc)
2. Make sure it is on SD Card (root)
3. Boot phone into recovery
4. Wipe Dalvik and Data
5. Flash ROM
6. Reboot
7. Drool over it all day long.
HTH.
Got You...

Okay, Here we go.. First press and hold down the trackball, then while doing that press and hold the power button. Now, here you should see a white screen with android's on skateboards... Choose the one that says bootloader, by pressing the power key as that selection is highlighted.
Now, Here you should see your bootloader.. Go To Cyanogen Site and thread for 5.0.3 and download the 5.0.3 rom, the gappspassion ere36b 2 file, and I once your done your good to go...
So this is how it goes. Download Files... Press Trackball and hold power.. As soon as you see the screen come up, Press the power button but assure that Bootloader is highlited in blue so thats the direction you'll go. Now after that, use the vol- button and scroll to revovery, once in blue and highlighted, press the power and your on your way to the best part...
Once here, you'll see a black screen with green letters, here choose, usb-toggle, press the trackball and you should see it come up as a disk on your cpu.. From here copy the files i told you to download.. TO THE ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD, MEANING THE WHITE OPEN SPACE, NOT A FOLDER. Once your done with that, eject the device and on the device press the trackball, this will get you out of the usb toggle. Now, scroll with the trackball to flash from sd..
Okay In this order.. FOLLOW THE ORDER...
Flash The 5.0.3 rom first, first do a wipe, (scroll to wipe/factory restore, wipe dalvik cache) now flash the rom, it's easy you'll know.. Once thats done, it'll say done... Flash the gapps-ere36b file.. once that is done... it'll say done... it will land on "Reboot" if it dosn't press the vol- unitl you do see it. Once you reboot your good...
You probably deleted the boot by mistake. Remeber this is just as sensitive as a MAC so be sure to listen to what I said.. You have one more task which is to flash the Radio, but your ok with the one on Cyanogens rom.. When ready PM me and I will continue to help you...
Okay, Here we go.. First press and hold down the trackball, then while doing that press and hold the power button. Now, here you should see a white screen with android's on skateboards... Choose the one that says bootloader, by pressing the power key as that selection is highlighted.
When I highlight bootloader and click on it I get up top in red Fastboot USB and then I get an error sound. It seems that my phone is not being read by my computer when connected via USB. Is there any other way to fix this at all? There are no actions that happen, I am unable to do anything.

Okay, So you did the right thing.. Your not doing anything wrong.. Where it says fastboot usb in read it means your still in fastboot you haven't went to bootloader. Press the power button while bootloader is highlighted in blue, once you do that you should end up on the second screen whre you scroll down with the vol- button to highlight recovery.. once there press the power button.. From Here continue on where I left off above..
Don't worry buddy, almost there, NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR NEXUS, so don't panic there little one. You'll be on your way showing everyone diff roms and riding the android wave like your stupid... LOL
It is not working. Fastboot appears in Red. When ipress the power button when bootloader is in blue it just takes me back a screen.
Huh?

Sorry, I was busy in the Modaco Section which i hope you get to it...
Alright.. Fastbootusb is suppose to be highlighted in red when first reach the fastboot screen i.e. skateboards... Here is where bootloader is highlighted in blue. Here is where you click the power button and it will take you to the next screen. *Here* if you just press the power button again it does take you back a screen to the start, but, YOUR suppose to use the vol- (down) button and scroll to recovery. Then press the power button up top. Then you'll see the screen wipe down and from there your on your way...
This section is recovery.. (the black screen Green letters) Here is where I told you flash the roms.

You might get more help if you rename your topic title to something more descriptive.
Second, try searching the forum; this has been discussed in numerous threads on both this forum and the developer's section, along with how to fix it.
Try the threads about the update, or dialing a certain code to force it manually (that's where I learned the timing trick to get into stock recovery on the NS). On the screen you're at, try pressing and holding power, then pressing/holding volume up, that should get you into stock recovery.
Also, if you can get into fastboot, you can fastboot flash the CWM recovery back to the device. If you made an nandroid before doing anything, you can at least go back to the device's state before you tried the update.
i could not find anything on this issue on google or here
i tried doing vol up and power, but its still at the screen, and my computer doesnt recognize my phone
use the instruction on the topic to ROOT the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875875
and in one of the steps you can use the ADB to push a good ROM back into the phone to be re-flashed
Try just pulling the battery.
If not, you'll have to use fast boot from the SDK. Just follow the howto at the top of this forum to flash original images.
thank you so much!
i locked my bootloader again, and i've been trying to get the 2.3.1 update, but everytime i do try, it freezes at the android warning sign. i also tried installing it via rommanager when i was rooted...whats going on?
any ideas what could be wrong?

Are you able to get into Fastboot?
I wonder if part of your problem is that you relocked the bootloader. (Why'd you do that anyways? No advantage, imo.)
Fastboot oem unlock will completely wipe your phone, I mean WIPE EVERYTHING, including the sdcard (photos, music, some apps' data, etc), but such a wipe might get you back to stock firmware and stock recovery, then at least you could boot up. You could also then reflash CWM.
Before doing that, let's try this if you haven't:
Turn off phone.
Hold vol-up, then press/hold power.
You should then be in fastboot mode.
The timing's critical (on my phone anyways) for this step: Select recovery, and have your hands on the power button and volume button ready to push.
Watch the screen very closely, for a bout a half second or so, the screen will flash a box with an arrow dumping out onto the android dude. While that screen is showing, press/hold the power button, then press/hold the vol up button. Important to do the power button FIRST this time (at least it is on my phone).
You should then be able to get into the stock recovery.
Once there, maybe we can figure out where to go, but we need to know how messed up your phone is at this point.
Once in Recovery, you could try wiping cache if it's an option, then trying to reboot. Worth a shot, but not likely to work.
You could also do the factory reset wipe in there, this one shouldn't wipe your sdcard if there's anything critical/valuable on it. It will reset all your settings and logins and wipe the apps you've installed, though. Again, might let you boot up normally.
My motorola bravo was being updated when it became a brick. The phone comes on and puts a red M and there does not advance. You can not do the recovery. I need an idea of how to revive it. And try to install but nothing happens sbf reposition the M and there does not happen.

did you boot into bootloader (by holding power + volume up) and then apply the sbf?
and remove your battery and reinstall it.

your not holding the vol up earlier enough do the following:
1) take out the battery
2) press and hold down the vol up button
3) w/o releasing rhe vol up button, put the battery in.
4) within 3 seconds a black screen will come up with white text.
5) do the sbf
i have bricked the bravo so hard during development and always been able to get to a bootloader screen. one time i bricked so hard it went directly to the bootloader, so you def. can get in to sbf, unless you vol rocker is broken, then you may be screwed. in that case plug int he phone, let it bootloop and try to start the sbf, it might reboto into bootloader for you, but probably not.

so then you should reboot holding vol down and then the recovety will load.
hit vol up and vol down at the same time to load options.
then wipe cache and wipe data.
wiping data is prob only way u can fix it if you already successfully flashed the sbf.

Thanks for the help.
perform the sbf file down twice again but the phone only puts the M, will not let me enter recovery, I think it is a complete brick and not know what else to do.
Too bad there is no sbf2.1 for testing.
hmmm, unless you are going straight to a bootloader screen you should still be able to enter recovery. my only guess is the update was in the middle of updating your recovery when something went wrong and the recovery image is corrupt.
sbf not working plus no access to recovery sounds like a real true brick possibly.
make sure you hold down the vol down and w/o letting go you put the battery in, when you are in this bootloop that is the only way to be sure you get in to recovery.
what happens when you hold down vol down and put the battery in? does it do anything different at all?

The phone was damaged because it was downloaded in the middle of an upgrade.
when I hold the power and volume down, I put the battery and three seconds later reappears M, does not load the recovery.
I think I'm going to give up.
May be taking it to a store at & t service, can do something?
Take it to the at&t store. Since it is so badly damaged due to the update "failing" they can replace it with warranty
Sent from my X10i TripNMiUI using XDA Premium App
I'm a rep @ an AT&T corporate location. Yea, if that update failed, we take care of it. I assume you're referring to the OTA 2.2.
Reviving an old thread as where comeranas left off is where I am at.
Wife has a new phone already so I am just trying to revive this one. If not, it goes into garbage.
The screen has been powering up to the Motorola logo only. I can hold the volume up and power button to get to the bootloader/usb screen.
I cannot get to the recovery screen by holding the volume down and power button. No matter how many times I try and in what combination, it always powers up to the Motorola logo.
I ran the sbf file on it twice with RSD Lite and each time when it gets to the part of re-booting it says "Phone is being rebooted."
Then after the progress gets to a 100%, it says, "Please manually power up this phone."
The Motorola logo is on the screen and I have tried to simply push the power button, pull the battery and re-insert it and pull the battery, hold the volume button down and re-insert the battery all while still hooked up to the computer.
After a few minutes the Results box says Passed. But the phone still goes no further than the Motorola logo.
So as of now, the phone still only powers up to the Motorola logo and goes no further.
Naturally it had to start acting up 2 weeks out of warranty. Dang blang warranty timers installed in these phones. lol!
You can try sbf_flash on Linux and both the full and fixed sbf with it. I'm on phone now, so I can't give good instructions or links, but sbf_flash is around in one of the recovery threads here, and the fixed sbf is at quarx2k.ru and my rom mirror (see signature).
If you need it, I can make a Linux Live tutorial for sbf flash, only requirement would be 512mb usb stick or memory card.
I once had to flash sbf 3 times in a row to fix a brick from an accidental Defy kernel flash in cwm.
So the sbf files you are referring to are different than the 2.2.1 sbf file HERE?
I don't run Linux on my comp.
I'll look at the fixed sbf file in your sig. Maybe I just need to run it over and over again until the phone pops. lol! Thanks.

The fixed sbf contains the bootloader and kernel and it for when you write to either of them and need to reflash back to stock. Handy for when you accidentally flash a Defy from with a boot.img
You don't have to install linux, just use a Live CD and place sbf_flash and the sbf files on a memory stick. Once the Live CD boots, the memory stick should be on the desktop. Open the folder and right click "Open Terminal Here". In the terminal first type:
su
then
chmod 0777 ./sbf_flash
then
./sbf_flash ./fixed_bravo_sbf.sbf
or
./sbf_flash ./p4_kobe_umts_kobe_user_3.4.2-125_KOB_FFW-4_product-keys-ATT-US_ATT-signed.sbf
Just download one of these for your pc's architecture, if you're unsure, then any of the 32-bits will work.
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
The reason I suggest using sbf_flash and Linux is that its supposed to fix phones that sbf flashing with RDS Lite won't fix, and it'll flash files that RDS won't like modded root sbfs. Apparently it flashes differently. Don't ask me the difference cause I don't know.
Good Luck.
You said that you couldn't get to the Stock recovery menu, your volume button isn't broke is it? And have you tried up+power and down+power? Kicking it? JK, but throwing my old razr flip phone into the couch as hard as I could used to fix it....it would freeze on boot, but a good toss and it was good as new.
Thanks, gonna give it a try.
I am kinda wondering at this point if the down volume is broke. Though if it was, she would have said something about it before it went down.
I did smack it a few times to no avail. lol!
i had a cyanogenmod for few months and this morning suddenly after i turn off my alarm clock the phone rebooted, and he now stuck in a boot loop of the cyanogenmod logo(blue circle), i tried to enter to recovery mode(power+vol down) and it shows me android with an ! logo and nothing else

i tried to flash also to root sbf(BL7 if it matters) and the same thing
don't know what to do else, any help?

I've had that happen several times. Sometimes clearing Cache works. Most of the times you have to wipe /data partition with Custom Recovery. Now, after flashing with RSD you must go into Stock Recovery, and wipe /data with Stock Recovery. That will get your phone to boot up.
That "android with an ! logo" is the Stock Recovery. If you were on CM you would have had 2init installed, so to go to the Bootmenu/Custom Recovery, you have to press the VOL - button when the blue light turns on, not before, or else you might go to Stock Recovery.
When I flash with RSD, I always wait for the phone to reboot, and right when it reboots, I press the VOL + button so that it goes back into Bootloader, that way in RSD it shows the "Pass" message right away.

Well, it seems like you've never used the Stock Recovery before. When you get to that screen you need to press both Volume + and - so that it shows the options.
With some stock SBFs I think you have to press the bottom left or right corners of the touchscreen for it to show the options, don't remember which side it is, and sometimes it's hard to hit the right spot, but it's there alright. Try with both volume keys first.
If you do manage to get it to show the options, do a Factory Reset, which wipes Data for you. Although, if you just flashed a stock ROM with RSD, there should be no blue light, just so you know.
