So I did gfree rooting and have cwm 3.0.2.4. Do I need to partition SD card or can I just flash Rom of choice? I do not want pu fail/bricked phone.

Partitioning SD card doesn't help you in absolutely any way.
Please read the relevant thread in Development section, and follow its (only) advice - flash Engineering bootloader.
No partition the card is like making another storage place on it.you don't need it to flash Rome

Actually, no - that wasn't the least bit helpful. Like the OP, I've been struggling with this topic for a while and I've searched extensively, both on this forum and elsewhere, and have found no good description of how to go about partitioning my SD card and setting it up correctly. I understand that very often people don't bother to search at all and ask questions that have been asked and answered hundreds of times before, and that such laziness is quite frustrating to people like yourself who are particularly knowledgeable and experienced - but in this one instance, I think you may have been a bit too quick to dismiss the OP's question.

You can boot from a live CD such as Ubuntu and then mount the microSD. From there, the partitions may be extended to meet your needs. The live CD will see the ext2, ext3, swap, etc. linux partitions as well as the FAT32 ones.
To update via recovery from rom manager to update the nightly versions where is it located on the SD card??
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

After you've flashed your rom or kernel w/e the case maybe is it safe to delete the file to free up memory
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
The zip? Yes. But I would recommend keeping atleast one rom that is compatible with your recovery. To free up space though you could delete nandroids I freed up over 6gb of just backups.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Once you are done with flashing, You can delete those files. But its better to keep them in the sd-card. This way you can flash them again without nay hassle.
Like everyone else said you can delete them with no problem but its good to have a backup in case you ever flash a different rom and something goes wrong.. I'd say get a bigger sd card.

I had a similar problem... It was conflicting with something on my sd-ext so I had to do a complete format, and re partitioned and re flashed now I don't have any problems
Hope this helps

Well I havent partitioned my SD card at all, would you recommend I partition it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well, I would format my SD card first, and if u want to partition the SD card, do it through amon_ra, then flash DTa2sd, its already on the shooter ROM but it isn't the newest beta... The newest beta allows for the datasd command, moving a lot of ur data to the SD card, but make sure it SD card is at least a class 6 or higher otherwise this could hinder the snappyness (is that a word?) Of your ROM... I don't know if it is mandatory to partition or not...

Ok thanks ill try to do that but i have the standard SD card that came with my EVO is that a good enough SD card?

I just got a NC and I got it running with cm7.2 fine but I saw that I could not download anything. It will just say unsuccessful.
Now I got it running cm10 to see if it made a difference with no luck.
So basically I cant save anything to internal memory or move any files to and from

I don't know if it makes a difference but I used the eyeballer guide to flash cm to internal memory.
I also can't change the permissions to the storage/sdcard0 folder it just wont let me edit the internal memory

It is possible that your media partition is not formatted properly. What makes me think that is you have problems with both CM7 and CM10. Did you have problems with stock? You say you just got the NC, new or used from somebody else?
You can try my format zip from my emmc repair thread linked in my signature. But if it is new and under warranty, I would put stock back on it and get a different one from B&N. See my NC Tips thread also linked in my signature for how to put stock back on it. See item A15.

Thanks for the reply. Its not new used was given to me by my mom and didnt really use it stock.
