Battery life is EPIC....UPDATED 5/16/11 - Galaxy S II General

Hey Everyone, Updating this post to reflect some new news about my battery life. On day 2 here. It's 2:25 PM in the afternoon and the Green bar has not even dropped from being full.
Now- It's important to note also. I received my phone on Sat at 10:10am. Let my phone go, NEVER charged it all day sat and used it. Let it SIT OVER NIGHT and never charged it.
Used it sunday as well and by the time I plugged it in it was not even yellow it was low, but not yellow and the Battery time said 1 Day and 6 hours and some change.
I think for tonight I'm not going to charge it either because most likely I will be at 80% or something the battery is so insane.. ill go into the next day.. I will post SCREENSHOTS for you guys later if you want.. but this battery life is SUPER amazing...

That's what i thought about the battery life but there seem to be quite a few folks here with not so great battery life.

Maybe it's their Carriers and location?
I know the farther away from a tower you are the more "juice" the radio uses for the signal right? most people on here are over seas right? I live in the US and i'm on ATT living in a major city area.

+1 for great battery life. I'm a heavy user and came home after work and I'm at 40% (7-8pm). My vibrant would usually die by 5.

I got some pretty bad battery life when i had it on the older firmware (would run out after 12 hours)
but now it easily does 12 hours and is at 50%! thats after i updated to the latest fw

Battery life on SGS 2 is the worst i ever seen on any android... or any other phone either..

+1000 when the signal is weak the phone is constantly searching and is trying to "hang on" to the signal harder. I notice this all the time when I am at work in a crappy AT&T reception area in New York City.
I am more and more suspecting my old Captivate had better reception - I never was without signal at work. With SGS2, I sometimes pick the phone up from my desk only to find that there is no signal on it.

What the heck were you doing with it? Admit it, you turned it on and just put it in your curio cabinet behind a glass door, pulled up a chair and stared at it all day with a goofy happy smile on your face.

You may have a dodgy unit...I'm finding the battery life to be significantly better on my SGS2 than my original SGS (running your rom )

I recieved my S2 last weekend from Clove. Initially I thought it wasn't displaying the correct percentage. Turns out, for me, that it was as good as it seemed.
I've never seen such good battery life on a phone.
Currently on AT&T in MA USA, if it helps anyone.

So what did you get in its place?

When it's good, it is REALLY good...
But then suddenly, out of the blue, the battery graph will turn bezerk, and will try to plunge itself to death on the 0% line within about 12 hours...
But as long as the bug hasn't shown up yet: enjoy!
(probably fixable though in the near future, seeing how fast Samsung is already throwing out new firmwares for it...)

Well I took it with me to run errands all day for one thing, configuring more options while standing in line, sending off texts,. etc,.
Also went out to eat dinner and played with it some more.
Installed all my apps off Wifi, etc.

Battery Thoughts
Guys,
I have had mine now for a week and have noticed that unless I am in a relatively stable signal area I am only getting about 8-10 hours of reasonable use , which i have to say is absolutely rubbish, however I am swithching to GSM only, a lot more in areas where it would constantly be looking for stronger signals and hey presto 1-2 % per hour ish.
I have tried many combinations of apps removal and the above seems to be the only thing that appears to help.
Anyone have any or similar?

I'm not at all, and i'm here in the US on ATT. I do have that "bug" where it will say 3G then Switch back to H+ a lot back and forth, but even with that the battery life is AMAZING. So i'm thinking that bug isn't effecting things much.
I have NOT rooted my phone yet, and I have not "removed" any of the stocks apps yet.
I do PLAN on doing that, but i have not done so yet, and it's great.

Battery thoughts
I really am thinking that there is no uniform issue that fixes this and some people its great other s rubbish....may there is a dodgy batch of batteries that went out.....

Battery Life- Downs and Ups!
My first thoughts on the battery life were very positive. Almost 10 jours of constant playing and still some juice in the tank.
Then it all went a bit downhill, with it needing charging after just 4hrs. I found that was down to "Tektrak" app, therefore that was uninstalled never to return.
Even running AVG my phone was giving pretty good battery life, certainly a day of fairly heavy use.
I upgraded to the latest official Samsung firmware last week and since then the battery life has been incredible, despite the fact I live & work in dodgy reception areas.
I'm getting over 24hrs even running virus, Lifestyle's Bedside Night Clock overnight and using it quite extensively. It's still at the stage where all the iPhone users want to play with it to see what they're missing too so its on most of the day.
Frankly I can't believe how well it is performing. Don't know what Samsung have done but it seems to work.

Everyone seems to be having mixed reactions to the beattery life. Could possible be the way we use it or maybe faulty devices. But the reactions are almost 50-50 so it would be a disaster if half the number of devices turn out to be faulty.

Question for you MT4G Users

I've been reading up on a couple threads, but would like to get some more information...
what are your opinions on the MT4G vs the Samsung Vibrant? Anyone gone from one to the other?
I just got rid of my iphone 3G that I've had for over 2 years...I had a free upgrade from T-Mobile so I tried out the MT4G. I took it back the next day because the battery life SUCKED! And that's being polite about it. It didn't even last me all day, and I was in either edge or no service all day...I never went into a 4G or 3G area.
I now am using a BB 9780, but am wondering, was I too harsh on the MT4G? Should I give it more time? It's coming down to the Vibrant or the MT4G. Everywhere I'm reading, the only con is the battery life...it seems to be a consensus that HTC botched that part of the phone.

Since there is nothing wrong with the MT4G's battery life, that would be why. Constantly searching for service uses a ton of battery...certainly more than being on 3G/4G consistently all day.
Sorry, I'll be more clear. I was in service at my house, and then I went into the boonies to watch a basketball game and lost service for 3 hours (switched to airplane mode the entire time). I was never flipping back and forth...I had service, lost service, had service. That's it.
Yeah I gotcha. I'm saying that's why your battery life seemed so bad.
How though? If I used the phone in edge, put it in airplane mode, and then turned off airplane mode and was back in edge...how would that eat battery life? That makes zero sense to me. My iphone did just fine in edge/airplane mode
I have had no battery issues similar to yours. When I was still traveling frequently, the phone was actually able to make it a 6-7hr car drive through the boonies in/out of signal searching for service the entire time and still above 50% battery.
I came from an iPhone 4 and I absolutely love my MYT4G...i had some battery issues (would last me almost the full day) so I downloaded juicedefender and told it to connect to the internet every 15m to download data. I unplugged my phone at 9 this morning and I still have 33 percent remaining as of now.
Don't get a vibrant. The myTouch 4G is one of the best android phones out on the market right now and everyone who has a vibrant ends of regretting it.. GPS issues, etc.

Do either of your live in 4G areas? If so, does that eat it much? How do you like the 4G speeds? I had my iphone stolen once, and replaced it with a BB Curve 3G, and the 3G ate up that batteries life, so much that I'd switch off to EDGE before getting frustrated and buying another iPhone off craigslist.
My only concern is I need a phone that will last all day...between class/practice/tutoring, etc...I don't always have time to get back to my dorm to charge my phone, I'm running around all day. One of the perks of the iPhone was it lasted me all day, though again that was on edge all day.

My parent's house is in a 4G area and I don't notice any battery use change whatsoever. I know what you mean about the iPhone...my iP4 lasted all day and still had like 60% battery life at the end, but all my friends who had iP4's on AT&T with 3G all had like 20ish percent. If you use Juicedefender like I do, I guarantee that your MYT4G will last the entire day...You might also want to invest in a backup battery from Target that you can use to plug into your phone when it starts getting low
Thanks. I honestly wish I coulda stayed with the iphone, but ios4.3 and after will not include updates for the 3G, they are getting fazed out. And I have a free upgrade, so I thought I'd try something else.
Is rooting worth it on the MT, if that applies to yours? I JB all my other iPhone's, so curious to see what it'd be like on another device.
Yes, I do live in a 4G area. My phone IS my radio in the car with Pandora on my commute, and if I'm out and about with the wife (lol shopping, sigh...) also my entertainment. About the only time I perceptibly notice battery drain is playing 3D games for an extended period of time, but for just SMS/Email/Web it doesn't seem to noticeably drain.
Rooting is certainly worth it even if the only thing you do is install AdFree -- no more wasting bandwidth and battery downloading ads that you probably don't want to see anyhow . Also, root while you can, if just for future use -- HTC has started blocking one of the existing methods on newer models being shipped.
As for 4G speed:

Do they make an adapter for the MT so you can play it through your radio, or are you just using a universal one?

As for which phone is better that is personal choice. I have a vibrant and my wife has a mytouch. I personally like my vibrant better but that's just me. As for the battery life these phones are expected to use a hella amounts of juice because they are mini pcs. I noticed my screen takes most of the battery. After a proper battery recondition I can easily get about 17 hours out of a single charge. If you are looking at the vibrant wait for the vibrant 4g that's gonna drop next month.
Oh and to play the music through car speakers any fm transmitter will do, just know if you live in a heavily populated are the reception will be ****ty. I had to remove my antenna to make out work half way decent.

Yes, I actually live right across the river in IL, too
I use the line-in jack to my car directly into the headphone jack on the phone, runs through AUX on my car stereo. Sounds great! Also any calls I receive broadcast through the car speakers and the phone automatically goes to speaker phone mode to pick up my voice, then resumes playing my music right where it left off when the call is finished.
so do you know where Brighton is?
what is ice glacier exactly? I see you have it and have seen others refer to it, but not what it actually is/does?
My g-friend has the mt4g and loves it. I changged the keyboard for her cause we both hated the stock one. Hers is left stock for now but I would say its worth it to root for juice defender-under/overclocking-blocking ads ect. Those will all help with battery life. If im not mistaken iced glacier is a rom u can flash to it. I assume u know about flashing roms and what they do. U just have to read about the rom. Glacier is htc's name for the mt4g
Edit: and being able to remove bloatware. Also good for space/battery issues.

I bought an extra battery with a stand alone charger that charges the battery by itself. So, if i am going to be away for an extra long time, i just bring the extra charged battery. that being said, i easily get about 14 to 18 hours with moderate use out of my battery.
Aside from knowing that it's similar to jailbreaking, I have no idea what flashing roms is

Yeah I'd go ahead and do it...I was a hardcore iOS user (I've owned all 4 iphones) and I jailbroke and unlocked all of em (up til 4.1). I am rooted and since I don't like the sense ui too much, I installed the gingerbread launcher and I love how my phone performs right now. I was running EDGE only on my iPhone with TMO, but I love how the MYT4G has native tethering and the overall android os
Flashing ROMS is very different from the iOS world, ROMS basically contain the entire OS and you can flash custom versions of the Android OS on your phone.
Mytouch 4G all the way! I had a vibrant but you have to root that thing and install a lagfix just to make it run right. I have had no battery issues with mine but I do have juicedefender and I have sense rooted and am running cyanogenmod 7 build #13 and I get amazing battery life. I can go all day with heavy useage and still have 20% come 9pm.
The only thing I miss about my vibrant is the screen.

Is anybody else using the LEAKED GINGERBREAD ROM on their EVO? Thoughts? Opinions???

I've been using it for 2 days and so far I have nothing but good things to say about it. The battery life so far has been top notch. My phone has currently been off the charger for 15 hours and 2 minutes, and I still have 41% battery left. It's very responsive. Everything works on my HW003 Evo. The one problem I have discovered so far is that when I record a video, once I'm done it force closes the video app. But the good thing is that the recorded video is saved intact and I can re-open my camcorder app immediately if I want to record another video. So it's really not a big issue. Other than that everything else sems to be working very smoothly. I have Go Launcher EX running on top of it and everything is super-fast. So far I'm really loving this leaked ROM. What about you guys(and girls)???

Well, I took it off the charger just after midnight last night, and I woke up at 7am. So 7 of those hours it was resting. But since then I've been to the gym and listened to music the whole time, sent a few texts, received about 30-40 texts from twitter, browsed the web for some of the links, viewed some android central youtube videos, updated some apps in the Market, made 2 phone calls, etc.. The point is with my last ROM and kernel, normally I'd be at about 15% battery by now.. There seems to be a noticeable improvement. But I posted this thread because I'm wondering if it's my imagination or if anyone else is having similar experiences.

Pretty decent
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Where's a link for it? I wanna try this out and put in my .02!
Fyi my g1 only lasted 4-6 hours on a charge using stock battery, I turned off the radio and let it sit in my sock drawer it stayed on in stand by for nearly a week on that same battery.
These threads bragging about battery life are just BS, im sure if I want all day not using my evo I'd also get 16+ hours on a stock. I typically get a good 14-16 hours using my 3000 mAh battery and being constantly on my phone.
I noticed a lump in my battery last night (SBC maybe?) And now im back on the stock battery, this is my 3rd time today its back on the charger, my point? None but these threads don't mean a thing unless there's any really useful information to significantly extend the battery, especially to us users who do use our phones and not just let them sit idol all day.

Last I checked there's a few in the development forum, but they are ports and a work in progress and have a lot of things broken. As son as there is a stable gingersense im all over that.
I loaded the leaked 2.3.3/sense 1.0 that tmartin put together. It is 100% functional for me. Some people were having issues with the screen staying at 100% brightness, and the camera acting strange. I think that may have been a variety of factors, wipe quality, hardware number, and screen type.
The rom was flawless for me. I have a 3500 battery and used my phone like a crackhead for 15.5 hours before the battery died. I was web surfing most of the time, and reading the leak thread that hit over a 1000 posts in a day before the op locked it up.
I am now using the misfit gingersense rom, and it is working 100% for me, apart from some very minor black on black text when word suggestions pop up using swype.

I flashed the tmartin 2.3.3 sense leak as well. I liked it for the most part...but it wasn't anything really special...some menu changes and it did have the nice fast boot feature. Sense was still a little sluggish when scrolling through home screens. I flashed back to cm7....what I do miss is the stable 4g that I do not get with cm7 final.

This post was not just about battery life. That was just one aspect of it. I posted it to get feedback from others who are also running the ROM put together by TMartin from the leak. I still don't get why people get so funny acting when it comes to others talking about how long their battery lasts. If you don't like it or don't care to hear about it then move on, as it may not be for you. But others may be interested to see if it improves their battery life. Remember, every post here isn't catered just for you. The world is bigger than just you. Anyway, I use my phone quite regularly, whether it be browsing the web, viewing video, texting, listening to music, etc.
I also forgot to mention that I'm using the stock battery.
For those who asked where they can find the download, here ya go. It's linked in the first post:

Dude, your battery might have cancer. You should do a battery self-exam at least once every month. It's best that you do it in the shower so that the battery can hang low. Make sure you roll your battery through your fingers to check for any abnormal growth or lump.
If you feel a lump or that the shape of your battery has changed at all, don't hesitate to see your doctor. Remember, catching battery cancer in the earliest stages gives you a much better chance at survival!

I layed on a flat surface and noticed it rocked a little bit, so yea it has a slight deformity. Dr. Abu ghraib can have a look at it tomorrow.
I flashed it and been running it for a few hours now. Its alright, nothing ground breaking or impressive. Im kinda disappointed about no vertical battery or the on/tv off effect like the asop roms have. I thought I was gonna see that in gingersense. No big deal though, its same ol sense on gingerbread. I did notice some improvements in the browser. Fair enough, its cool, but still a little buggy.
Screen dimming works for me BTW, on my 0003.
Tomorrow will be the real test as far as the battery goes.
What bugs have you noticed?

Warning: Buy a spare battery ASAP

I've had my S3 for a week now, and it is amazing and awesome, exceeding all my expectations. I keep all my settings maxed, because when I show it off to people, I want them to see the amazing colors at full brightness.
But the battery doesn't last more than a day, just like any phone.
So if you are a power user like me, plan on spending another $25 and order a battery now, you will need it.
I predict a temporary shortage, like there is with NFC tags now.
Does it last a whole day when power using though???
That is all I want is a phone that can make it 16-20 hours with whatever usage I throw at it!
If I heavy use my DroidX I will not make it until the end of day...even if I just end up on the phone for over an hour that day...and I am FAR from a power user!
I have no issues charging it every night...but I do have issues having to charge a phone twice a day.
Nope, this phone has battery issues, big time.
Came from the SGS2X same as tmo's SGS2 Hercules, this SGS3 has serious issues, my carrier gave me a new battery yesterday to try and resolve the issue.
Case in point, yesterday before I swapped the battery, was charged to 100%, got an incoming call, was on the phone for 15 seconds, put the phone down, no apps in use, memory clear. 30 minutes later, I left home, phone in pocket, after 10 minutes, unlocked phone, was at 93%, I went to the store to get a new battery, something isn't right.
Did a full wipe on the phone after I got the new battery, going to test the next 3 days, my carrier said if it's not resolved in 3 days they'll give me a new phone.
As a side note, my roommate has the SGS3, we picked them up from the same carrier on the same day, his does not have this issue at all, both phones configured the same.

Not for anything but I've yet to see any modern smartphone last for 20 hours of heavy usage without needing to be charged. Even my iphone 3GS which had very good battery life wouldn't last that long.

No, its not going to last 16 to 20 hours using it like a power user. Absolutely not. If you are taking pictures, surfing the web, playing games, connecting on and off wifi as you travel around the city, you'll need more battery, somehow.
I took it to Seattle's Pride parade last week, and took hundreds of pictures and a few videos. I even uploaded one video over mobile network (which took like 15 minutes) When I got home about 6 hours later the battery was at 15%, which is amazing, considering.
My wife is thinking about getting one, and I'm sure it would last 20 hours in her hands, and of course she would tease me about it, too.

Well I use the term "Anything I throw at it" loosely...as I a not a "Power" user I am not likely to be gaming ALL day or Streaming ALL day...but I functionally use my phone through out the day...and if I have to be on the phone 2 -3 hours that day...I need the phone to make it until bed time at least for me.
With my DroidX I make it through almost every 16-20 hour day...unless my daughter steals it and plays Temple Run or I spend a load of time browsing the web while bored and not at home.
Nitro...It does sound like that phone has a serious issue though!

Yeah in a sense like that I can understand! I wouldn't expect it to make it through all that...especially the 15 minute upload if it wasn't done via Wifi!
I guess my point is when I read reviews on phones anywhere on the net I have major issues with people marking something down due to battery issues...even if it has better battery life than any other phone! Not saying this one does...cause I don't even have it in my hands yet...but just in general.
I can't have this phone be worse than the DroidX is all I care about...and if I go by ratings alone...there aren't many better standby phones out there...which should mean I should be fine.
the only problem with this phone and battery use, is that its so awesome, you'll be using it so much
so plan now, and be ready
the battery is great, and large, as will be your enjoyment

I am fully expecting the first few weeks (the honeymoon period) to have battery issues...it is after that on a basic work day is what I am worried about.
I have used a smartphone for the last 4 years...so I understand normal battery usage and when I know I will need more juice. Some days like that parade that was listed are days I prepare to have extra juice around...just the normal days is my concern.
But yeah I am going to use and abuse this ***** for a good month straight I am sure!

My battery does pretty good too. I still got the external charger/battery combo though. I don't feel right without one. I had 3 batteries for the gs2 and feel like I need the same for this. If something pops up, I have 2 fully charged batteries most of the time and just grab them and go.

I currently have 2 unused sgs3 batteries sitting on my end table. Of course, they are unused because the damn things are 1 mm too big. Stupid chinese vendors...
Not a bad idea... Put a spare battery in the glove box or something. May come in handy.
But yeah i want a phons to last 16-20 hours. Screen time for me maxes out at about 2.5 hours for me in a day. So far the phone has done pretty well.

Yet another mini Nexus 4 review

I know there have already been a million reviews of this device, but in case anybody wants a million and one, here's my 2 cents. If not, carry on.
This is my first Nexus device, coming from SGS2 and before that the original HTC EVO. I'm on T-Mobile USA.
After one week with the Nexus 4 my verdict so far is: good with potential to become great. Here are a few quick thoughts in pro/con format:
PROS:
- Super fast and fluid, I've noticed no lag whatsoever. Haven't played any 3D games yet though
- The N4 is definitely a sexy device and feels great in the hand
- I do like the smoothness of the glass and the curved screen edges.
- Painless unlocking / rooting
- Best phone for the price, by far
- Love having a notification light again, hallelujah
CONS:
- Have to say I am a little disappointed in the screen. It's not terrible but I guess I've been spoiled by the saturated screen of my SGS2. The N4 was just.....underwhelming. Sharpness is fine but the first thing I noticed is how dull the colors seemed compared to my SGS2. I'm sure I'll get used to it but I'm not able to call it an "upgrade".
- Surprised at the bugginess of Jelly Bean, I'd say I get one random reboot per day, maybe two. There are also other random oddities such as the bluetooth toggle not working properly, force closes, etc.
- I've had trouble with connectivity/connection speeds on both WiFi and cellular data, if I can't get them resolved it may end up being a dealbreaker.
- Battery is....meh so far. I've done all the recommended tips of disabling/removing this & that, and I generally make it through my day of low to moderate usage, barely. I have yet to have screen time of more than 2-2.5 hours. If I upped my usage by even just a bit I'd need a top-off during the day.
- The device seems quick to warm up. Even when I'm doing something like light web browsing it's surprising to feel the device warm up in my hands.
- Gotta admit there are a couple of niceties I miss about Touchwiz such as the quick toggles in the notification drop down.
- Given the numerous reports of glass breakage / scratches makes me super careful about handling my headset. Almost paranoid, really. Luckily I have no visible wear so far but it would be nice to not have to worry so much about this. I do like my phones naked though so I'm probably asking for trouble.
- Some of my apps are buggy with 4.2, guess that's the price you pay for being on the cutting edge.
- Ringer / notifications are really, really, really quiet when the phone is laying flat on my desk.
- I'm not a huge fan of the growing amount of "Google Bloatware". One reason I like having a Nexus device is to not have to deal with all the carrier installed apps / services. But I dislike having to disable Google Magazines, Google Plus, location stuff, Google Talk, etc. etc. Maybe if the battery was at least up to the task of supporting all these things I wouldn't mind as much.
Admittedly most of the above "gripes" are minor, but it's surprising because on my old SGS2 I didn't really have any gripes at all. If I can clean up a few of the above items I'll be very, very happy. Overall I think I'll like the N4 better than my SGS2, but it's far from the landslide I thought it would be.
I really don't get this random reboot issue. I can honestly say I haven't had it reboot once and if had it for over a week ...
And for me the battery life is great ...
Check it out right now

Haven't decided yet if getting a good battery is just a lottery or if it comes down to usage habits. Probably some of both. As for rebooting I just got another one upon uninstalling HD Widgets. Clicked uninstall and *poof* there it went
Strange ... Could it be a rouge app ? Iv got 30-40 apps installed and not had a reboot ... Its really strange ...
And yea totally. Its probably down to my usage . I do a lot of browsing and xda

Idle Battery Drain

So I was posting some info in another thread but I figured I would make my own thread for it. It seems like the power consumption at idle might be the cause for the "not as good as expected" battery life. For example my G3 will sit off the charger for 4 hours without being used and still be at 100%, the Turbo loses 6% in that time. The G3 has a 3000mAH Battery and I could easily get 24h of off the charger time on the G3. My question is what is killing the battery on the Turbo??? Its kinda hard to look over the battery stats when there is no root. Anyone have any input?
I think it's because of the wifi. I too have experienced crazy idle drain compared to my G2 and it's really making me regret getting this phone. It seems like they just slapped the kitkat ROM together and didn't really care to test it very well because Lollipop is coming out so soon.
It's definitely draining at idle more than usual or should be, I agree. I don't think it is WiFi related though, or at least not enough to be the main problem. I could be wrong of course. I have also not experience any WiFi or Bluetooth issues whatsoever and I use a Moto 360 all day, every day.
I am currently on my 4th charge cycle since acquiring the 64GB BN model. It's been powered on for 7h 32m and I'm sitting at 78% with 1hr 18m SoT. That's with heavy usage and taking quite a bit of pictures & video during this mornings product demo presentations at work.
Hardly anything for me personally to complain about. I'm sure they will optimize it. I'm almost certain than Android L 5.0 will make this phone a true beast.
Time will tell.
are you leaving gps or high accuracy location settings on?
I have the same issue as the OP. My G3 lost very little battery life when idling. I've attempted shutting down email accounts, turning off location and selectively removing apps in hopes of determining the cause of the drain...without success. This could be a deal breaker if we don't get some type of root exploit soon.
Well this sucks. I was going to get the Turbo but now I'm going to wait and see what happens with this drain issue. Maybe 5.0 will fix it.
I have been using the same settings that I did on my G3, Auto brightness, Location OFF and Auto Sync. Glad I'm not the only one noticing it too, I think its all in the build of Kit Kat they put on this phone, hopefully L comes out soon.

How about you start by posting screenshots of your battery stats from System...Battery
I don't have any issues whatsoever.
Well once I figure out how to do that I will post it, but in the mean time what phone were you coming from? A few people have agreed in this post that the battery life is worse @ idle then the G3 so its not just me.

Well G3 could be out of box, not trying to argue wanted to understand what your problem was. If you press the graph you'll see more details on what is using batteries (awake vs screen on, cell signal etc) and more in Android System if you go into that screen.
Overall what your getting .. 1-2% is not a big deal to me and beauty of the massive battery is you don't have to worry about but if really wanted to you could improve by turning off stuff you don't need or even automating it.
FWIW I'm coming from a GS3 with a tiny battery but even that phone lasted 5 days idling with the right setting for my use case (cell radio off / WiFi on). With Turbo just disabled some apps I didn't need and don't even think about it any more. I do have complaints about the Turbo but battery is definitely not one of them.
I'm interested in this as well. I bought my turbo yesterday evening and it had a pretty good charge (>80%) out of the box. I played with it for much of the evening and copied ~8gb of data to the phone via wifi. When I went to bed battery was at 60%, when I woke up it was 46%. I noticed that my third biggest battery use is command center, so I disabled auto-location in that app. I'm hoping to have better results on my first full charge.
Yeah I agree, but its literally the same settings I ran of my G3. I think I'm just gonna return it between the weak wifi and cell signal, and the camera it's just not worth it if the battery life isn't better then my G3
I've been posting in the other battery life thread... but to summarize, I'm going to be doing some thorough testing over the next 24/48 hours (currently ongoing).
I have already noticed significant improvements in my battery life. Has mentioned in the other thread. I'll be making a detailed post on Friday evening with my results.
I may also, from time to time post some of my progress, as I already have an understanding as to one of the issues involved with the so called "idle drain" everyone is referring to, and it is NOT WiFi.
Keep your eyes on that thread here.
Thanks, I'm pretty good with understanding wake locks, I just don't know where to start without root since most the stats in BB require it. I'm intrested to see what you come up with. I'm gonna wait till Saturday anyway to see if I still want to trade this in for the nexus.

Well you are limited with what you can do but I already gave you a start in my post, maybe you missed it. The only insight you will have without root (for tools like Better Battery Stats) is looking into all the info you can get out of Settings..Battery. There you can see wake locks vs screen on time and other stats like cell signal / wifi status etc. Then you can also dive into your biggest usage, for you it looks like it is Android System. They will list system services that are classified here. For example, you'll see the moto features are part of this. If you don't want to dig you can wait for Andromjb's updates
Overall I wouldn't base your decision to return the Turbo based on the battery -- base it on your other problems it sounds like you're having with wifi signal etc. That sounds like reason enough for a return. If you're ok with the larger size of the Nexus 6 then to me it's a no brainer to go with that instead of Droid Turbo since they are almost identical in terms of hardware.
For those that are getting battery drain, did you disable all of the verizon apps? There are some 20+ apps that are constantly running in the background and will drain your battery(even after i did a factory reset, these apps were sending data despite me never having opened them). Disable those, restart, then see if things change over the next cycle. I got 2d9hr31m and 4hr23 min of SOT(minimal usage) and was at 13%; this was on the first charge.
Could this drain be due to some of the sensors used for notifications. Doesn't the turbo have the feature where you stick your hand over it and it shows the notifications? If this is the case, wouldn't those sensors have to stay on?
Yeah I have 27 apps disabled and it really didn't make a difference for me like it has in the past, their must be something killing the battery on this 30m of screen time and I'm at 79% shouldn't be happening.

Thats actually really interesting. I haven't been experiencing anything like that. Perhaps try doing a factory reset then disabling them again. That's the only thing I did differently. Perhaps it's just a bad device? I'm already at 2hrs screen time, heavy downloading(off line apps), and have been on battery for 1d8hr- still at 45%. Is there anything in the battery stats? Wake locks perhaps?
