My Patriot 16GB class 10 died with no warning after <1 month, taking all my data, ext3 apps with it. Its after the Fry's 15 day return policy so I lost my money
I was using it for dta2sd, and also moved dalvik cache to the card, and so class 2 won't do.
Reading reviews, I can't find amything with decent reviews and speed. Kingston seems to be too slow, Patriot is unreliable, Adata also has failure.
I can't throw more money at this if the card will just fail again. Should I just give up the whole idea and go back to a 16gb class2 - I really don't want to give up the speed.
I hope it's okay that I post in the Evo section as a XPERIA X10 user.
I can recommend the Kingmax 16GB class10 microSD card. Mine can write with up to 15MB/s, so it should be fast enough. I bought it new from ebay for around 30€, that should be around 40$. Good price I'd say

In my research, I found Wintec was not a trusted brand at all.
Amazing, my Patriot 16 GB class 10 card failed after one month of use too. Sent it in for warranty replacement 2 weeks ago, nothing yet. It especially sucks because it worked so good up until the day it failed.

I've now had 4 Wintec SD cards. All of them burnt out. They just stopped working.
I got a class 10 patriot so far so good, I guess those are pretty iffy). I got it from Fry's (BTW, Fry's WILL price match with Newegg).
The most reliable SD card I have believe it or not is my 16gb PNY class 4. Not as fast, but I've had it for 8+ months and no issues.
Also, I know you're passed the 15 days, but still go in to Fry's and demand an exchange. I went in and exchanged all of those Wintec SD cards, Here's how it went down almost every time:
Me: I want to exchange this SD card. It stopped working.
Sales Associate: It's passed the 15 day return policy for SD cards, I'm sorry.
Me: Yeah, you said return policy, that's not what I want to do. I don't want my money back, I want an SD card that works.
Sales: Nope, sorry.
Me: If you can't help me, get me someone who can.
Manager comes in*
Manager: How can I help you?
Me: I want to exchange my SD card for one that works. This one simply stopped working. I don't want a refund, I just want a new one. Why should I have to suffer for buying a defective item? It's advertised to work and it won't. Just take it back, mark it out and the company gives you the money back. I've worked in retail and I've damaged things out. It happens and it's not the customers fault.
Manager: Well, you see, you're passed the return/exchange policy. I'm very sorry.
Me: That's it? No, I'm a paying customer and this is how I get treated? If you can't help me, THEN GET ME THE NUMBER OF SOMEBODY WHO CAN.
*From then on, it goes to their district manager who simply gets exhausted and doesn't really care so they give me the okay and I get the exchange. Now, they don't argue and they just exchange it.
I'm not talking about abusing a return policy at all. If something simply does NOT work, then yes you should get your way. I don't care if it's a little passed 15-30 day return policy. Now mind you, I'm not talking a year after the return date, that's just messed up, hahahaha.
If you break something, then you break it. Don't go looking for an exchange, that's just ugly.
I just ordered a sandisk 16gig class 4 for $24 shipped. I hope it works good.

Once again, buy from tiger direct, Jewett. Etc. Somewhere where they let you swap out If If If If you have a problem. Like I said, 30 dollars for a class 10 is an amazing deal. I love it, had no problems, some people have problems but that's the same with everything. When you find me a card where 100 percent of people have never had a problem, I'll ll give in...

16GB class 10, buy online or in store for 34.99. They are in the camera section, not the phone section. Comes with the adapter.
I went and got them in store as I wanted them without waiting and if there are issues it is much easier to take it back and *****, second one is a backup and for if I do get a tablet.
So far the speeds are AWESOME, tested out great with the app. Transferring everything over now from my 8gb class 4 card.
Partitioned out 1GB for A2SD and the larger roms that are coming out.

Well I finally broke down and ordered a Nexus One last night. I got the order confirmation at 9:38PM CST Sunday. I got the email stating it shipped along with the FedEx tracking code at 9:46AM CST on Monday.
I wouldn't think too much of it but I had the custom etching done and it said it would delay shipping 72hrs. They must have gotten through the initial backlog and they are shipping pretty fast now.
The only problem is that I ordered the new 8GB Class 6 Micro SD card and Zagg last night as well and I went slow shipping on those thinking they would all get here at the same time. Now I should have my phone tomorrow but not the other stuff until Friday or so.
Oh well. I can start using it with the included 4GB card and start over when the other card comes in. I would pull the 8GB card out of my G1 but I don't want to set it up again for when I pass my G1 on to my wife.
your system info is not stored on the card. you can just copy over everything from the 8GB to the 4GB (assuming theres enough space) and thats that.

True, but I use Touchdown and some other apps that will install stuff to the SD Card. It isn't that big of a deal to redo it when it comes in. I had the same issue with my G1 when I first got it and went from the 1GB card to my 8GB card. I have to get Touchdown up and running right away as I need that for work. While I could uninstall it and the other apps, install the new card and reinstall the programs, I will probably just load up the apps that I have to have, play with some others then do a wipe when the new card is here. Not a big deal and probably faster.
To do the copy would take more work because I would have to set it up to move. Like get a machine running Linux to play it safe. Not a big deal but still takes some time. Besides if the Nexus is as fast as everyone keeps saying I should be able to be back up and running pretty fast.
Who here is still using the original SD Card that came with their Hero? I am and I'm finding that its absolutely horrible whenever I attempt to do anything with roms because there's practically no space left.

This is the best deal around and I've read nothing but good stuff about this brand Wintec 16GB Class 10 29.49
I've been keeping track of fake 32gb micro sdhc from china. Months ago, they came as no name cards. Then a couple months ago they started arriving with brand names like kingston and sandisk.
These are actually 4 or 8 gb cards that they had modified to be read as 32gb.
If you do a search on amazon, you will find many of these cheap cards being sold as sandisk, kingston, etc. And guess what, dumbasses have been putting lots of 5 star reviews because all they did was put the card in their phone and the phone read it as 32 gb. These dumbasses never even bothered to test out their cards first before doing a review.
The easiest way to test out if you got a genuine 32 gb card or not is try to fill it all the way up with large media files and then try to play the files from the card.
As you can tell, I am very disturbed by the fake products that China is producing and flooding our damn economy with.
I guess this is the 21st century version of "me chinese, me play joke, me put pee pee in your coke".
I only buy from Amazon, none of the third party vendors. Not 100% safe, but easier to deal with for returns. I suppose always using a credit card with a good "buyer protection" policy would help too.
What really pisses me even more is the fact that the chinese government almost never do anything to stop these activities until the international community at large say something. Look at the plastic rice fiasco, for example. The damn chinese gov didn't do poop until the taiwanese news reported on the finding. Plastic eggs, foods made from cardboards, etc. Fake apple stores.
Please understand I'm not dissing everything that is made in china. I am dissing the chinese gov for not stopping these downright immoral practices.

And?
I'm not saying all 32gb cards out there are fake. But because the online market is currently being flooded with these fake cards, people need to test out their cards first before they do a review. My complaint in the OP is that if you go through and read people's reviews, they gave 5 stars simply because they put it in their phone and the phone says 32 gb. If you then look at the 1 star reviews, there are a bunch of people reporting they couldn't put more than 4gig or so of data. And the transfer rate is extremely slow.
The point is test out your cards first before you do a review.
I've never bought anything bad from Amazon or any of their vendors. Also, Prime is the best!

Not to point out the obvious, but there is a reason goods are cheaper from China.
No offense meant, but you want cheap goods with industrialized quality control.
When China reaches the level of regulation of the industrialized nations with their products, they will no longer be cheap.
The solution is pretty simple, quit buying from a country known for their low quality, if quality is truly a concern.

I think you mean, people who try and save a couple bucks buying from China should test them to make sure they aren't getting ripped off.
Alot of the reviews are pulled together from just being a micro sd, Hopefully anyone on the fence will checkout newegg I'm not advertising but like you reading those amazon reviews it felt like a gamble hitting that buy button.

I've reported to amazon several instances where sellers were trying to sell fake products with no brand name. Amazon actually took those down, so kudos to them. That was months ago. Nowadays, they have gotten smarter and actually put reputable brand names on their microsd cards.

Yea, the most anyone can do is test their cards and report the seller if they're bad. Unfortunately, as an earlier poster mentioned, China won't do anything to them unless a major corporation(Apple) or a government threatens them. Not to mention they rack in god knows how much, fifty thousand or so maybe, in sales, shut down and make a new business. I live in Mexico for the time being and it's interesting how easy it is to drop off the governments radar here, I imagine China is worse.
A few months ago I bought a 32Gb SDHC card from this Finnish eBay-like site. The seller had good reputation and the cards weren't noname-brand ones so I had no reason to suspect anything. But when I received the package something on the package seemed off, it wasn't how the real manufacturer packages their cards. I obviously checked the card out and turns out it was actually a 1Gb one, the firmware on it had just been modified to report 32Gb instead and to silently drop all data written past 1Gb, just reporting success to the OS.
I got my money back as the rules on the site state, and when as it turns out, the seller didn't either know that these cards were fakes. He had bought them from some Chinese entity and had apparently been lied to. The sad thing is that he had sold already a few hundred of them and now had to get back in touch with all those customers, re-pay them, and well, who knows how many customers actually lost their data because of these fakes?
Humans are greedy and willing to screw over anyone just to gain something themselves :/
Could this be happening to those lost files
This is just a thought. Several threads in both this "General" and the "Themes" forums have over the past weeks been complaining about losing files from their sd cards. Various explanations have been put forward and some no doubt have been valid but is it not possible that people are unknowingly buying these chinese fake sd cards and like poster "WereCatf" were having data apparently written to the card but this in fact was not happening after say 1Gb, but were silently dropping files and data but falsely reporting "good" transfers to the card?
I appreciate this doesn't solve the problem but it may give some understanding to those who are losing files?
best practices.
"If it looks like it's too good to be true, then usually it is" That's how I go about my purchases online. I can understand finding a good deal. I always find them, but if it is an unheard of deal, then BUYER BEWARE. The reason it would be an unheard of deal because it likely still will be after you discover you have been scammed. Common sense is what you really need to use when purchasing online.
I feel so damn stupid. I'll be honest, that never crossed my mind. I'll be a heck of a lot more wary now. Thank you for putting this post up.

My Sandisk 32 gig that I got at a great price is a fake.
The paint on it rubbed off with my finger.
It does not work.
I put in a complaint and won the complaint but got no refund.
Before you start... yes.. i know it's a personal decision.. which is why i'm asking YOU. What's would YOU do in my shoes?... let's begin
I bought a 16gb a week ago. I have a ton of accessories coming in tomorrow for it. BGR dropped a screenshot of a 32GB model (along with a Galaxy Nexus II).
http://www.bgr.com/2012/10/03/google-nexus-7-32gb-galaxy-nexus-ii-rumor/
My only complaint about this tablet is the 16GB of storage... so here are the options.
A) Take it back and wait - I still have my xoom wifi with 32gb... which is why i'm spoiled on that storage amount
B) keep it and either sell it or give it away once the new one comes out and buy it outright - My mother or my sister would likely be getting this one while the other got my xoom. I hesitate on this one becuase I'm probably not going to get anything close to what I paid for it.
What would XDA do? chime in.
C) I wouldn't have bought it in the first place if 16GB wasn't enough for me.

If you already have a tablet I'd say return the Nexus and wait for the 32 GB to drop, the thing is we have no idea when it could be. It may be next week, it may be black Friday or it may be Christmas.
I have the 8 GB that I bought a little over a month ago and when I'm sure the 32 GB is readily available (like I can go into staples and buy it) I'm going to sell my 8 GB for it and be happy with it for a while until e next big thing comes out next year.

No, return it and pick up the 32gb one. You've only had it a week and you just found out there is one with larger internal storage coming next week. Office Depot already has it listed on its website, though it's not available for purchase just yet. Staples has it in its warehouse right now waiting for the streetdate. This isn't a case of "Well, the Nexus 10 is coming soon, and there's a new Asus coming next spring", this is a case where you know it's coming in a week or two. Yes, otg storage fixes the issue nicely and cloud storage works great, but if you can do it and not have to go through any amount of serious trouble to do so, why not? It doubles the space you have internally right now in addition to the cloud and otg storage. There literally is no downside to returning it and picking up the newer model aside from having to run setup again. At the very least pay close attention on Monday when Google has their announcement, find out how long a wait it will be to get it. I'm fairly confident it'll be available within a week or two of the announcement.
Return it. 16 is too small. USB OTG is OK but still a pain in the butt.

Again, we're not talking about a theoretical tablet that may be coming someday soon, we're talking about an upgraded Nexus 7 that some lucky people have already been able to buy. I really don't understand some of the posts in this thread talking this guy out of swapping it out, it almost sounds like sour grapes here. "I'm stuck with a 16gb tablet, why should this guy luck out?" You're telling me that, given the chance, you wouldn't wait a couple of days and drive down to wherever you bought your tablet from and exchange it for one with twice the storage at zero cost to you? This may possibly get pushed back just a bit because of the Google announcement being cancelled, but you know it's coming within the next week or so, so go ahead and make the exchange.
Return it and get 32GB, even if you dont use all the storage at least you have it. I pre-ordered my 16GB from play, im now miffed theres a 32GB one as im always short on space. I use OTG but its messy compared to on-board storage, cloud space is all well and good when you have WiFi but frustrating when out and about. Gonna buy a 32GB when they come out then give 16GB to Mrs
More memory = greater power drain? Might be negligible though.
Also, storing tons of apps/media on the device may slow it down.
FWIW, I have had a 32GB SDcard in my Android Smartphone for about a year now, and 20GB is still free.
If both were the same price, I'd get the 32GB version.

UPDATE:
So after calling a local Staples they confirmed they had a 32gb nexus 7 in stock, but no amount of sweet talk would convince the sales lady to let me buy one. She is going to hold one for me until tomorrow morning though. Luckily I found the 32gb Nexus 7 listed at office depots website last night.. mysteriously that listing has disappeared today ... hmmmmm. I will swear to you on my life.. that the listing did in fact exist on the office depot website. Anyway.. it prompted me to list my N7 on which I just returned from selling.
So.. the current state of affairs is the 16gb Nexus is sold (got $220 for it), and staples is currently holding one for me to pick up tomorrow barring any disastrous acts of God or nature.

I just found the article to this promo. I'm going to try for it as soon as the portal is live.

If your on T-Mobile like me, this is a ton of free stuff from LG. I'm hoping I can get this one so I can get a 2nd leather back, 2nd battery and charger. Just cant wait for my 128gb sd card.
Darn, just saw that it needs to be purchased in July, Might try for it anyways, you never know.
It ways you need to buy it between July 1st and the 31st, so in theory a person can't do both. I bought mine on the Tmobile launch day and already received the first care package and waiting on the 128GB card to ship,s so I doubt I can double dip. If we can can that would be awesome though!

I just re-read that. I'm going to submit it anyways. Worse that can happen is they decline it. Its still alot of stuff thats been given away for this phone.
Yeah, lots of good stuff. It is great to post this though, for anyone that just bought the phone. I've got a hand full of 32GB cards, I'd rather have gotten a leather back for when I don't want to use a case!
Yup posted it about a week ago in the main thread. You have have bought it starting today.

I'm happy to give up the 32gb micro sd card and have a leather back
I am happy with the promo I got for last month, so no biggie (plus as neat as the leather back is, it is far from needed.....for me a larger SD card and an extra battery are things I actually need on a daily basis).
Honestly though, I just find it super cool that LG is being so generous to their customers......you really do not see it too much anymore.
