First, as you can assume, i have the HTC Hero...since i was not satisfied with the 1.5 version ( android ) i updated it to 2.1 ( Eclair version )..now the problem is that when i add the APN settings, it starts the 3G network and i don't have any option to "close" it...on the 1.5 version i had a the Wifi, Bluetooth and i think Data connection, but now only the Wifi, Bluetooth... so in a summary, i can open and close the wifi and bluetooth but i can't regulate the 3G network, when i set it, it starts and there is no way to turn it off...
So does anyone has an idea how to solve this?
Thanks in advance
How about when you hold the power button, do you get the "Mobile Network" option to select there?

No, just the silent option, airplane, reboot or turn off...
The irony is that when i turn Wifi on, the 3G also turns on...but when i close the wifi the 3G still works...

Maybe ask in that thread.
Or flash a diff ROM and see if you still have the same issue.

Im using MCR3.2. (Link in my signature). Fast and stable,... No issues whatsoever. But it is still only an Android 1.5 ROM. I'm planning on adding the 768mhz overclock kernal to it tonight, hopefully will fly like a Legend then.
Ooops,... Sorry
You not the only one with this puzzling problem wkulen! Same rom as you, and it seems I can't close 3g even with that APNdroid is set to be off! It looks like it still using data from 3g - hope not otherwise it could be a costly mistake!
i've got the opposite problem...
ROM: current official...
My 3g or data internet connection sometimes doesn't turn on when I switch off the wifi. But it happens most of the time, but not all the time. What I normally do everytime is to go to Settings/Wireless controls/Mobile network settings/Network operators - and I "select automatically". Then my network data kicks back in. It's a hassle but I don't know what else to do.
I hate to start another thread about GPS, but I was seeing many people over in the dev forum getting very accurate readings from the GPS after applying JI6.
I was wondering what the best settings are to optimize GPS accuracy after the JI6 update?
www.spirent-lcs.com and port 7275 or supl.google.com and port 7276?
Keep accuracy at 50? What about skyhook? keep it off?
thanks in advance

Most of them just leave the original settings, and so have I. Getting exact reading while using my tracks from google.
I just updated to JI6 and i don't know why but it still thinks I'm somewhere far off...not nearby...about the same as before...

These are settings you put in LBSTestMode menu, which you can access by dialing *#*#1472365#*#*
You should let your GPS catch before actually deciding if your GPS works or not, mine started crappy but ended up flawless, if you decide that your GPS is crap then you might go change the settings.
you guys are getting accurate locks with the "use wireless networks" option checked or unchecked?
i don't get any satellite locks at all when I only check "use GPS satellites"! I have to check "use wireless networks" for my gps to find me
I just got the JI6 update via Kies Mini

I get accurate results with it checked, and for which it is 100% of the time when I use my phone too.
I did uncheck it just to test it out and stepping outside, it gave me an accurate location and fast too.
My phone of course has the JI6 update, if it needed to be said.

Minor correction. The correct lbltest mode code for the newer JIX builds (including JI6) is *#3214789650#
I've had mixed results with GPS since upgrading to the newer JI6 firmware. Some days it seems like I can aquire a GPS signal within thirty seconds or so of turning GPS on. Other days it takes upwards of five minutes. I have more or less chalked this problem up to signal quality in the areas I am turning the service on in. Since I work outside of the states the problem could also be due to wherever the phone is pulling SUPL data from as well. I'd be curious as to what other expatriot users have their phones set to utilize for SUPL data. At the moment I am running the phone in cold boot/MS Based, as this seems to speed up the time it takes me to nab a decent signal.

I have the same questions and more....
I thought a cold boot/start would start your GPS as if it had no memory of where you where last, I mean in what part of the world. My handhelds and a CF card GPS would cold start from the city they were manufactured in, then slowly find their way to N. America locating birds and then slowly zeroing in on my location.
Hot start would put me at least in my home state to start then locate the birds that are in a geosynchronous orbit (the sats/birds that are always (mostly) over head, they turn as the earth turns) Since the birds are always overhead of this general continent and I too tend to stay in this general continent. After first uses I keep it on "hot" start so the GPS chip doesn't ry to find me in Asia first.~
Now the above statement are base on some assumptions: Is this indeed what hot and cold start means on this device? (it does on others) Also when does it go to a colds start? During reboot of the device? Do the settings Cold and hot always force these types of starts? How long is hot start memory stored on the device?
I'm not even sure flashing new firmware or a new GPS version resets the settings to default. Some have reported instant locks some complain it takes a while for first locate (normal).
Two major questions now that we have the correct codes to adjust them: what are the defaults and did the Ji6 flashed upgrade reset them to default? Did it make a difference via ODIN, OTA or mini Kies?
I ask this because my GPS worked great with the leaked Fix flashed, now after the Ji6 update it works like stock out of the box (crappy).
So as the first question on the thread asked what are the best settings for the new update? And if stock is it what is stock? Did the update revert the settings back to stock?
Ji6 settings are standalone, hot start, GPS plus on, dynamic on, accuracy 50. Sky hook off, PC off

I have been trying to figure out how turn use the wireless tethering with 4g. I have no problems running it on 3g but the minute I turn on 4g internet stops working. I does stay connected though. I have downloaded different versions of the wireless tether including the newest version. Is this not suppose to work. This also happens with the sprint hotspot.

I may be wrong but I think wimax is on 2.4ghz and so is most wifi. Maybe deep within the kernel or programs there's something keeping that from happening. Kinda same thing that you can't upload anything with the browser either.
It's just a guess.
Which rom are you using and which kernel???? I've been using 4g tether with myn n koni elite series no problem with stock kernel. I. Fact I got great speed from it too.

Clear/Sprint's WiMax is in the 2.5Ghz band.
I am using Koni's ELITE series II, that i just flashed about 5 mins ago. before that i was using Koni's Elite I. I have changed officially through 6 roms, and none allow me to wifi tether with 4g. . I am now back to my stock nand restore since i haven't been able to figure any of this out. I really ponders me because others are claiming to have 4mb + speed on 4g tether. i'm stuck on 25kb tether on 3g and thats with full signal strength. I have ran out of things to do to get it to work.
one thing i did find interesting was that when i had my 4g connected and was wifi tethering, i was able to open google on my laptop and search for whatever- on the app it begins to read 128kb and so on -, but if i go else where and leave google search - ie..xda, msn-, IE or Firefox would tell me connection failed and i would see the app on my phone go to 0.0kb.
what is someones configuration to try that combination out to see if it works. Could it be the way i rooted? the kernel (although i changed through 3 of them)? the rom (changed through 6 of them)? or just the phone hardware(how would i prove it to sprint to replace it?)? maybe user error!
I have the exact same problem as butwhydoitalk2u. I'm rooted on 2.2 stock. WiFi is turned off. I've tried all channels and none work with 4G.
It started happening about a week ago. I didn't install any new apps. Pretty sure I didn't update anything voluntarily either.
3G works, 4G doesn't work with wireless tether.
Google.com will load on laptop browser, I can search, but any external links won't load after clicking through.
All other sites will time out on laptop browser.
Phone, mobile browser, etc. works fine while 4G is turned on, not sure if it's 4G speeds though.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
I'm not 100%, and I know it is just a technicality and does not matter, but I do believe that WiMax is in the 700MHz band.
As of last night I have this exact same problem.. as soon as I turn on 4g I loose wireless tether.. stock ROMs just rooted.. tried two tether programs...
I was using this for 2 months no issue then all off a sudden... browser on phone works fine..
ANYONE???
Are those that are having issues using a "Switch Pro"?
I dont know what a switch pro is but my phone is a EVO 4g...
Anyone know what's going on?
Been using it heavily for the last week, no issues on Myn RLS5. FWIW I turn on wireless tether first, then 4G.

In the USA, the biggest segment of wimax is around 2.5*GHz, and is already assigned, primarily to Sprint Nextel and Clearwire
Does anyone know if it is every going to be possible to reduce the amount of charge the WiMax radio takes in? If not, does anyone know exactly why it draws so much more than the wifi radio for example?
If you wanna tether 4g with no problem go download the latest cm7 final nightly and use the tether options that's cooked into the Rom. I have no problems with it. I'm currently tethering my Xbox over 4g as I'm typing this post. Hope that helps

noticed the browser is faster really, on Xda is really a big difference.
noticed the wallpaper picker is better, showing a kind of frame (visibility of the picture on the desktops)
noticed the wifi icons show now the traffic (2 little arrow up and down)
noticed charging battery bugs gone (now updated as should be, no more 1% and unplug and see 100%)
noticed resizable widget (mail, calendar...)
noticed widget weather updated and fixed, now the city is not crop anymore.
noticed a smooth improvement of speed when using globally.
Bugs from old and new
- no auto update of the sdcard content when plugin...
- a small weird bug (text) on the status appear (I got a thai character hahah)
- have to clean data and force stop the ACER CONTENT application, to can launch them (one time only)
Looks good. Thanks for the pictures. Has anyone in the US tried 3.1 with a Verizon aircard? I would like to know if it works OK. Thanks.

That would be nice, though I can't imagine how fast the battery on the A500 would drain down powering the USB modem at the same time...
That said, this router is really good. Wireless N support, battery operation for 2 hours if needed. Also can be used to make a hotspot with any other USB stick or even share out a DSL or other wired LAN. Well worth the $50 I paid for it.
Thanks for the pics.

Flashed 3-669-SuperScaryStable on top of nightly cm7 212. Subsequently, WiFi could not maintain a lock. The phone would find the wifi network get a lock for a moment and immediately lose the lock. Get a lock, lose the lock. . . . Settings I tried were Scary and smartass governors 245mhz - 1.2ghz
Anyway, flashed nightly 220 (back to regular cm7 kernel)-- back to wifi working fine.
Maybe I looked too quickly but all I saw in the development thread pertained to Super Scary not working with sense roms.

Download wifi analyzer from market and figure out what is conflicting with your wireless router.
toastcfh's stock kernel is considered the most stable kernel because it's been tested and proven to work with everything time and time again.
However, I have no problems with wifi on Scary's kernel. Again, I'm not saying there are no issues because when I'm at work I do have issues but I have wifi issues on my laptop with the wifi here as well, they have way too many APs broadcasting on the same channel (4-5 APs for channel 3, 4-5 APs for channel 7, 4-5 APs for channel 11) so I seriously doubt it's a problem with the kernel but more a problem with your local wifi router configuration.
Run wifi analyzer and it will answer this question.
Am I right to assume that I should run the test you recommend after flashing Scary and recreating the problem - cause on Toastcfh's kernel there is no problem connecting to that router whatsoever?

You can run the same test on toast's kernel.
Well, you know, maybe it's just all about the goofy phone itself after all.
Trying to do the test (following a reboot) I'm just about sitting on top of the router (that I've confirmed is working) with wifi enabled on the shift and all I'm getting is "not in range." Can't get the wifi icon to even display at the moment.
Thanks for the help.

Did it. But seems that I've got the same problem. Connects for a little bit and then disconnects. It just can't maintain the wifi link. Doesn't stay up long enough to even get a screen shot of wifi analyzer.
Maybe I should try another nightly, stable cm7 or sense?

You can't take screenshots on wifi analyzer. Just analyze it yourself. How many APs are broadcasting on the same channel as you? More than 1? Change the channel.
There are two and they don't overlap. One is centered over channel 6, the other (weaker one) centered over channel 11. But the problem is that the parabolas that show the signal strength disappear pretty quickly and the wifi indicator at the top of the phone just disappears. What do you think about the possibility that I should switch to a different nightly or sense?

Ignore the APs disappearing. It sounds like your router is either a piece of junk or misconfigured.
Try configuring the wireless radio on channel 1.

Netgear sucks. Do yourself a favor and go buy a Linksys WRT610N or one of the new models.
Other than that all I can tell you is switch your wireless channel.
It's not a problem with the phone or the kernel, it's the router.

Ok - Vic - here's the end of the story, since you've been good enough to work with me on this - -
Installed and ran an app called "FXR WiFi fix and rescue" from the market. Didn't appear to help.
So, restored nandroid of Mik 1.6 and WIFI WORKS PERFECTLY once again. Strong, stable, consistent lock on the Netgear signal (and another close-by router as well.) Problem solved for me.
Not going to make any rash accusations about what the culprit may be which caused wifi to fail for me on cm7.
I'm happy I've confirmed it's not the phone.
Maybe my shift just likes MikRoms and Supreme Sense and was punishing me for experimenting!!

Glad to hear it but I'm still wondering.. did you even TRY changing the channel?
I get 20+Mbps over Wifi on 2.4ghz.
I was planning to try changing the channel, but you know what -- just happened to restore Mik 1.6 first.
And the result was dramatic. On the nightly CM7 the graphs displayed on wifi analyzer weren't stable at all. Even when the parabola's appeared for a few moments, their height was shifting up and down. It was like the signal strength was fluctuating.
On Mik's rom the height of the parabolas is higher than I saw before and just stays put.

Did you do a wipe data/factory reset when flashing CM7? Did you wipe dalvik? Did you wipe cache? Did you wipe battery stats? Did you flash the latest CM7 nightly and then right after that did you flash google apps 828 and new talk?
Not wiping properly before flashing a new rom could cause weird issues like that.
