Sorry if this was asked before...
I am about to buy an imported Nexus One, I will use it on a GSM carrier in another country (google doesn't sell it here).
In the future, when there will be an official firmware update available, who be will providing it to consumers ? Is it Google, HTC, or only the official carriers like T-Mobile ? Will I be able to download it somewhere, or will I unable to upgrade without voiding the warranty ?
Thanks
you will most likely be able to manualy update by downloading and installing it your self.
htc will look at the official site
It will be FOTA...
How does OTA updates work, technically ? Does it need a special cooperation of my service provider or is it via any internet connection ?
I remember the OTA updates for the G1 needed to be pushed by the service provider, and if your carrier doesn't want you to have the update, you'd never have it. I hope it's not like that for an unlocked phone but I haven't found any info anywhere about that.
This is what I know + my personal logic: an ota is data so its going to be over your internet. And your provider will have to allow it. For those with tmo obviously otas come no problem, tmo expects to push them for google. I've never gotten one I'm always too impatient and I do it manually. So you'll receive it through your data connection but the always available alternative is to manually update it. The point is, even if a carrier prevents it from transmitting, it'll end up online and you will be able to get and install it. And it doesn't require rooting or any special level of knowledge in my opinion.
What about for those who TMO has no idea that we are currently running this phone? Will the OTA still be available?
Thanks
Yes every firmware update so far has turned up on the web to be installed manually. I don't anticipate the next update to be any different in that regard. It isn't google or a carrier but smart consumers who have received the ota and are nice enough to put it on the internet for public consumption

I was prompted by by N1 to check for updates and did so OTA via the phone.
On the google forum, one of the google employees said that the phone can check a google server for updates, and then you can choose to download over wifi or 3G, and install.
unfortunately the forum won't let me post an external link... so I can't show you the thread
post the link please
you can just add some space in the URL , or just remove the ht from h t t p . we can understand it .
the information is important.

I have a Rogers X10a. Since updating to build R2..... I cannot use Market Place. I receive a message that the server is not available. I'm assuming that since I got the update directly from SE, since Rogers have not posted it yet, that there is some location or country issue going on here.....Any help?
{Edit} Issue resloved on its own....maybe the server was simply unavailable for a few hours?!

Hi,
Got that notification today. I have an update for Security Policy. What's that?
My wife has the same S7 edge same firmware and no message for her.
My phone is not rooted. Should I update it? What's that? I guess it is not the patch for April ?!!!
Thanks
Its the monthly security update from Samsung... although if your wife don't have the same message, make sure it is the real Samsung update and not done dodgy scam.
Android rolled out a new security update on April 5 to address some High Priority Security vulnerabilities. I have not been able to access my corporate network for two weeks because I do not have the update (very frustrating).
I was in Arizona yesterday and received the notification that an update was available. I could not download it because I was about to take off on a plane. When I landed in CA the update was not available! They must be rolling it out regionally.
The update is real, my question is, how do is get it now so I can get back on my corporate network? Can I sideload it somehow?

If you are rooted, you could download and install manually. Not e been sure you need to be rooted either.
Just installed the August security update last night after hesitating for a long time, checking forums etc., because I'm always worried the update will bring unwanted changes or bugs. Well what do you know! Haha cannot connect to my carrier at all, tried restarting etc. Anyone got any ideas?
Fixed it. Under settings➡ cellular networks➡ preferred network type it had been resting to 2G or something. Setting it back to 4G allowed the carrier connection to come back online.
Where did you get the update and how did you flash?
How come my nvidia is not updating to 7.2?
Checked update and still shows that I am up to day with 7.1 firmware.
Am I the only one?
I live in eastern USA
Thx
Not sure. I received my update yesterday. I live in Chicago.
Got mine yesterday UK but no Alexa integration here yet
Do you think guys that might be because I uninstalled nvidia launcher and use as default HALauncher?
I'm still able go to nvidia settings, however I get message that I am up to date.
