[Q] incall speaker blown? - EVO Shift 4G General

I don't usually call anybody, just text and data. But a friend needed help, I'm running miui (and have been since the newest update) my speaker phone works and I can hear them and my earphones pick it up, but the in call speaker doesn't output any sound. So am I sol, or could it be with my rom. Ill do a nandroid and flash that awesome rom or cm7 to test it out.

Same thing happened to my first shift the 2nd week I had it. Factory reset didn't help, had to exchange it out and I haven't had any issues with the replacement since. Hope it works out for you as well!

Mine messed up also. Wasn't sure if it was some sand that fell in my pocket with my phone or not. Still made sound but sounded popped. Sprint fixed it for free because I have insurance. Then when they fixed it they messed up the screen so they just replaced the whole phone. Just got it today actually. So, go to sprint and have them fix it our replace it. Need to go back to stock though if you take it to them rooted they will void the warranty.

[Q] Desire Z - seemingly broken Microphone, or is it HTC Sense?

Hi all,
Picked up my new Desire Z as an upgrade from a Vodafone store on Sunday. Didn't receive a call until last night and the caller couldn't hear me. I called them back, same problem. I tried calling the phone from my Landline and it just picks up interference (a lot especially if the trackpad on the phone is swiped).
I have seen a number of suggestions online:
1) Upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 fixed the issue. Mine was 2.3.3 OTA from Vodafone before I discovered the problem, though if it's there in 2.3.3 I can't see it appearing in 2.2
2) The HTC lock screen causes the problem. I instaleld the suggested "NoLock" app which made no difference
3) HTC Sense is causing the issue. Flashing to a non-Sense ROM cures this. Does anyone know if this is true? I cannot/will not flash it as I'll be taking it into VF tomorrow, hopefully for a straight replacement.
I have a feeling the replacement may do the same though, and that it is a hardware problem?
Has anyone experienced this problem on the Desire series?
Thanks,
Karl
I wouldn't bother trying any fixes, just take it back asap.
I'm on my second dz and neither have done this, I also work for a phone retailer and have sold quite a few DZ's and have never heard of this.
Sounds like faulty hardware

I will be tomorrow, hoping it's just a bad unit! I was close to flashing it the day I got it, but luckily I didn't get home til late evening. Now I know why I keep my warranties intact!
Just an update to say I had the phone swapped without hassle this afternoon and the problem doesn't seem to exist on this new one, even after flashing to Gingerbread so it must definitely have been a busted mic!
Now I just need to find somewhere to repair/replace the smashed screen on my Touch Pro 2...

Touch screen problem

Hi. My screen has a touch imput free area on the top part of it. It is about a half inch, just bellow the notiffication bar. My phone is rooted, and i have hotspot enabled. Other than that is stock.
Plrase advise me as to what i can do. If there is nothig i can do, is my warranty voided because root? Who should i contact for warranty? Att or motorola?

Which method did you root your phone with?...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I dont remember. I was rooted, and than updated my phone to the latest moto release. Lost root and than i had to flash somethig to get root back and than to unlock the hotspot app.
This was about 2 or 3 months back. All was ok till about a month ago, when i dropped the phone to the floor. Noticed the screen issue shortly after. Not sure if the drop caused this tho. There are no scratches on the screen, and it had a silicone case on it.

do you think the problem came from dropping your phone or were you messing with something on your phone? and yes your warrentty is voided, but you could get your own new screen on ebay for like 30 buxs and fix it yourself
Not sure if the drop caused it. Maybe. I noticed the pb soon after. I didn't mees with the phone, other than rooting and enaibeling hotspot.
The screen on ebay, is it the same as the stock one? Same quality?

Try a advanced restore of pds.img from the cwm only to see if that fixes your problem.. Thats if you did backup from cwm..
No, i didn't back up anything. Just rooted. I barely mannaged to do that.

My phone had the same thing and I sbf'd back to 1.26 and took it back no problems. Mine was also unlocked.

I also have that problem, the problem is with the touchscreen not the software. At first, the touchscreen will not work for sometime you'll need to turn the screen off and on again. The problem will start more frequent. Then, the touchscreen on some part of the screen will not work at all. Only to fix is to call ATT for a repair. But, I live in Thailand and I brought mine at US. So, it not worth sending it back. I buy the touchscreen off ebay for $60 and change it myself. Working great now.
Pretty cheap on ebay, some for $40. My screen started acting the exact same way. I honestly believe it's heat damage. I remember reading that there are layers of the glass that are glued together. Extreme heat could cause the layers to come apart enough that sections of the screen are unusable.
My screen is exactly as the OP said, about a half-inch from the bar at the top. I noticed it soon after I started mounting the phone in my car near the top of the windshield where it could get some steady sunlight (obviously I didn't realize it was doing that until I noticed this problem).
I just ordered my replacement off ebay and will give it a shot. It's worth $40 if it'll let me use my phone properly again and hold off having to get a new phone prior to my upgrade price kicking in.
Hopefully installation won't be too hard. Good luck to the rest of ya!
This happen to my boyfriend's phone recently as well. I posted everywhere trying to find a solution but no one could help. It started to get worse after about a week or so where another section, towards the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive as well. My boyfriend finally called Motorola and sent it in for repair. We don't have ATT's insurance so we didn't try that way. Anyways, he's suppose to receive the phone this Monday...we'll see if it's fixed.

Did your touchscreen come with the adhesive? If not, you'll need to be extremely careful when you remove the old one cause you'll need the adhesive or you'll need the two sided tape with <0.25mm thick and apply it to around the touchscreen and remember to apply it as a close system or the dust will go under your screen.
If you need more info just PM me
I think i.ll call moto.

Mine had the same issue, ive unlocked, rooted, modded the rom and radio, so no going to ATT, instead i took it to UbreakItIFixIt, just google them, best $99 i spent and kept all my custom goodies!
Sorry I haven't responded, hopefully you got your phone fixed but just in case you haven't...The phone came back and he hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. The rep on the phone didn't know what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it but whatever they did, it worked. It took about a week or so to get the phone back and the only thing he had to pay for was shipping the phone out.

blown speaker

Hello all. I have the swag 0n 4.54.651.1 and I have been having problems with the sound when talking to people ( it sounds like a blown speaker as it crackles when when conversing) . I took it to Sprint to have the speaker checked and they said that the speaker is not blown and that the problem is because of the customization (that's what he called it, better known as rooted) I have done to the HTC Evo.
My question is, is he right or is he bullshitting me. Before I go back to stock to confirm this I would like someones opinion. Thanks
Most of the time they say that **** its cause its rooted. They did it to me before. Try flashing a different rom if it's still there its probably a hardware issue. Not due to rooting it they just like to say that apparently. Bastards.

Ruu back to stock, if it still happens, take it to sprint in non-rooted condition... why would you bring a rooted phone into sprint for repair anyhow? If you are lucky they will fix it if brought back to the store in stock form. If you are unlucky, they flagged your account as having a rooted phone and won't fix it...
P.S. wrong phone forum and wrong section to post. This should be in the evo 4g, questions section...

Lmfao this is the best question on this thread. I guess he never read the part when he rooted his phone that "your warrenty is now void"

My speaker blew also
I read of one other person who also experienced this problem in the past month. It seems like there is a reliable expiration date on these things!
Also, I ordered the replacement speaker from repairs universe and it does not fix the problem, so I'm going back 2 stock and trying to see what the sprint store ppl have to say.
sorry about your speaker, i feel your pain!

Headphone port stopped working!

I tried every solution but it seems it does not work. My atrix is in warranty but it is bootloader unlocked, will motorola still fix it?

Do you mean an earpiece? If you do, this is a rather frequent issue. A spare part can be found on ebay (~15$). My phone had the same issue, I fixed it by myself
I had this issue as well. and none of the "things to try worked" in my case it was surely hardware. Luckly it was just 50 weeks young... (down to the wire) But called AT&T and they had me do a hard reset and said "yep it's broke" and put one on the way. Since during the unlocking process there is a physical change to the phone you can't undo it. However, there's a few threads on what to do before sending your other one back. / Basically it's wipe wipe wipe and install the fruitcakes. Though it doesn't "re-lock" your phone, it no longer says "unlocked" when you first turn it on. And I think they are to busy to go much past that if even that far...
In my case they said i'd only get a phone, no battery or back and would have to use my own. (no issues there) but they ended sending me everything. So not going to argue with a fresh battery.
Good luck!

Ok thank you, your post was really helpful. Since i bought my atrix from bestbuy, would i contacts bestbuy, Att, or motorola for replacement/fixing?
Is this a common problem?
My headphone port has stopped working too, I was hoping that that was due to a bad flash or something.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Same here. Works from time to time. Mine is definitely a hardware problem. The headphone jack will not go far enough into the hole to make proper contact.

I had this problem and it turned out to be a small piece of lint at the bottom of the headphone jack. A little safety pin removed it and works flawless now.
OP, it is most likely a piece of lint or other debris in the hole, preventing a proper connection.
Try seeing if you can extract anything using a toothpick or something similar.
I have seen this exact scenario before.
I have the same problem but upon analysis I think that I don't have anything stuck in there.
When I peered into the socket it seemed fine, golden sides and some grey (metallic?) thing at the base.

My bad. I had an abundant account of lint. My headphones are working fine now.

Mine stopped working last week. I picked up one of those little bushy tooth floss picks, dipped it in a little rubbing alcohol and brushed away. Works perfectly now, just had debris built up on the contacts.

Phone Dived!

So my phone started acting bananas within a week or two ago. Bluetooth no worky. I'm rooted and all tht good stuff. Fixed my cracked digitizer at one point. Had the phone since last march. I love the phone. Well...like I said, it went berserk on me recently. Can barely text without writing like a million monkey landed on the qwerty. Bluetooth no worky. So I took out my back up iPhone. And took atrix to AT&T. Good news. Today was my last day of my warranty. Bad news. Im using iPhone till new phone shows up. Scary news. My phone is rooted. Will they charge me when they get it and see it was rooted????
Nah, you're good.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Judging by the symptoms, your digitizer got screwed again.
Obviously this has nothing to do with rooting, so this shouldn't affect your warranty in any way.
Unlocked bootloader on the other hand might tip them off. But still unlikely.
I doubt they will care about software modifications when your issue is with the hardware.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'm so unsure though. Been looking fr hw to revert it back to unlocked or put the stock stuff back in it. No one has a legit true answer tht "yea, they don't care because it happened to me and I still got my new phone"
It's always speculation. I feel like I'm the only one with an atrix to ever b in this situation.
Either way thnx fr the replies.
My sons Atrix also has those same problems. The difference is that he took his for a dip in the pool, so I think that the warranty will no worky, much like the bluetooth. His wifi is borked as well. I've been trying for months to get him to let me reload his rom on the off chance that helps. But his touch was fine until recently. I think that was enough for him. He is finally gonna let me at it this weekend. From what I have gathered it's a shot in the dark at best. But with a voided warranty it looks to be the only option.

Of course warranty won't work for your son. His phone went in the POOL! First thing they check is for water damage. Not the same issue as the OP!
OP..........pity you didn't take phone for repair while still under warranty. I doubt you would have had a problem getting it fixed/replaced.
i got it to att on the last day of my warranty, i received a new locked atrix. now i got to send my unlocked one in, but i want to lock it again, im afraid if they see its unlocked ill be charged.
