Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I have a few apps that require a "phone number" in order to work - one of which is the verizon remote control application. Does any one know where in the android setup the phone number is stored, and how I could go about just adding a random number to it so that when I am on my wifi and the cable box checks for allowed numbers it can match?
Thank you
Same here, it will be great to use Whatsapp on my NC. Anyone??
try textfree - a free texting app that assigns a phone number to your nook -

Well, if the textfree thing dosent work, you can (from the home screen) click menu > settings > call settings > Additional Settings (under other call settings) > my phone number. Hope this helps the number you set shows up in the about tablet menu
EDIT: Im running CM7, not sure if this works on other ROMs
Thanks!! I will try both suggestions!!!

I've ported my number to my new network. All ok there, works perfectly, etc
When I go to Settings - Menu - All Settings - Personal - Phone at the top it still displays my temporary number.
Does anyone know where I can access this to change is to my ported number, please?
Many thanks
Start > Calls > SIM Manager
Then go to Menu > Tools > List of Own Numbers...
Now select the number you want to change (LINE 1) and press edit
Thank you for that hollinshead
It worked within the SIM Manager though when I returned to the path I put in my first post, it didn't reflect the change, so I did the phone off/phone on and... yay! Result!
Many thanks for your help
I think the problem is it stores the Sim info when it loads the phone (or atleast this is the way it worked with 2003).
If you disable the phone then re-enable it, it should have the same effect.
In the Messaging app when SMS Message are threaded it displays a picture from the person the message was sent by, and another picture that is next to the SMS that are sent by Me. In the CM6.1 ROM the default Picture is a Grey Box...
Is there anyway of changing this?
I wish, this bothered me SO much at first..
Handcent allows it in the settings fairly easily well worth the small price to support good product that enhances my customization.
In CM, go to Settings -> Call Settings -> Additional Settings -> My Phone Number and put in your phone number.
Then make sure you have a contact with the picture you want to see in your contacts list associated with the same number.
And presto, picture.

This actually works...
Wish it would pull the picture from facebook like the original Slide ROM does, but at least the annoying gray square is gone..
Thanks for the help

Hi guys. I am also having this problem, admittidly with an HTC Saphire. I can't find any way to input "my number" anywhere. In settings "about phone" it says, number unknown and is greyed out. Anyone know how on a Saphire. Then maybe this would also fix my SMS picture problem.
Cheers, just in case.

The only downside I've found is that the setting doesn't stick through a reboot (so you have to put your phone number back in after each one). Upon checking, there's a bug tracker issue for that problem on the CM bug tracker so *shrug* hopefully it gets fixed some time soon.
Solution.
There is another longer thread somewhere on this, and the solution works, I have just done it.
Basically the sim card needs to be programmed with "my number". On my Magic, when you go to about phone, it would say number "unknown". Magic doesn't allow you to change this. Put your sim into another phone; I ended up using my girlfriends Backberry; and navigate to additional settings, or whatever, until you find Sim Card actions. Then in there edit sim card to show your phone number in international format (+44(leave out 0)**********).
Once done, pop card back into your phone, and as long as you have a contact with your number and picture logged away, then voila.
Works on any phone that allows you to edit sim card.
Hope this helps.

Madam*, I owe you a cookie.
*lol, couldn't find thanks so I clicked on your homepage...
Also doesn't need resetting after a reboot, however I had to reboot to make the pics stay after re-entering the messsaging app.
I am running CyanogenMOD 7 Nightlies and all I was wondering is if I can add or change MY personal profile picture where it shows a picture next to my number when I'm texting.
go to your contacts, add contact with the name me, add your number then add your pic and save it. should be good.
it didn't work.

The method from Havlic did not work for me, because under "call settings" I do not have the option for "additional settings"... dont know why, I am running cm7 nightly, but anyways--
--the solution originally put forward in this thread worked great for me... just created a contact labled "me" and took a picture

Well, no. That's only a "partial" solution.
Once again, two things need to be in place for this to work:
1) You have to let the phone know your own phone number by specifying it in the "Call settings"
2) You have to create a contact with the same phone number and assign a picture to it. It doesn't really matter what name you give to that contact ("Me", "Myself", "Irene" or whatever else).
If you fail to make sure that step 1 is done, then the picture will only "half-work", so to say. More specifically, the picture you used on step 2 will only appear next to incoming messages. But all outgoing messages will have no picture next to them.

There's no such thing as "my contact card" under CM7. You must be thinking about HTC Sense ROM. CM7, unlike Sense, does not have a dedicated contact entry for yourself.
One can be emulated by creating an entry for your own phone number, but it doesn't have to be named "my contact card".
Hi!
I'm extremely happy upgrading from Windows Mobile to Android! But when I go into the settings, it can't find "My phone number" and it can't be set, either. Googling indicates it could be set in an older phone, but I've tried that without success.
Googling also says a lot about the mobile operator "pushing" this info to the SIM card. But my operators support didn't understand neither the problem nor any solution. They just claim everything is OK on their side...
Thanks for any hints!
Best regards,
Knut
settings - call settings - scroll way down to 'additional settings' - my phone number.
At least thats where it is on cm7 roms.
If you also add yourself as a contact using that same number, with a contact pic, it will use that contact pick for you in txt message threads once the 'my phone number' is set.
Standard Android supports internet calling; Call > Setting > Internet Calls
Samsung sometimes disable it in some regions via CSC feature.
/csc/features.xml : <CscFeature_Contact_EnableIPCall>true</CscFeature_Contact_EnableIPCall>
Enables SIP calls, but it doesn't seem to be working on my Note 4.
Do any of you have internet calling enabled? If yes, can you post your /csc/features.xml file?
Thanks.
anyone got a solution for this?
I believe this should help. did for me

I can't download it from play ... i suspect it doesn't work on lollipop and the developer made the choice to block it for lollipop devices ...
i'll search the apk and try it ...
but i guess the apk is playing with the settings too, maybe someone could give a hint on what and where to change in the settings
thanx for the answer!
wifi sucks too since lollipop ...
Hi guys
internet call works fine on Note 4
if you create a contact with a SIP profile (like [email protected] - may be done online and synchronized) and try to call it then you receive an error and the setting to add any SIP accounts open. register and call works fine.
after my test i removed all SIP accounts in order to force the error again and enter the menu.
I guess if i don't remove all those accounts the the menu is vanished forever.
I wasn't able to activate the setting for allow to receive calls.
So...
It works but the menu-entries are disabled. Shame on you Samsung!
My hope One of you freaksters and androidteers can do something however to enable those two entries in the call settings menu.
live long and prosper
Ben
PS
You can remove the SIP accounts as long as you can open the setting in the "history" but better kill after your experiments
any news on this one ?

How do you manage to remove your SIP account ?
I manage to have SIP enabled with CSipSimple : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.csipsimple
But the calls to mobiles don't work.
EDIT : Damned ! That was tough !
I managed to launch the SIP settings window with adb.
This is the command
Code:
adb shell am start -n "com.android.phone/com.android.services.telephony.sip.SipSettings"
And you're done !
The settings window for adding an account is here. You can now delete/add acounts
You can install Quick Shortcuts Maker too. Look for "sip" in the normal search. There's only one answer.
But better, search for "account" and create a shortcut to Phone Account Settings. You can now choose to receive the calls, define which account must be used for calls, create/delete/modify accounts.
If you install Nova Launcher you can access loads of hidden functions, including Phone Account Settings. To do this you add a Nova widget called Activities, scroll down to Phone (third instance with 96 sub-entries), and from the list of sub-entries select Phone Account Settings. Then use the shortcut it creates to access SIP account settings, and voila.
