Internet Calling - How to enable? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Standard Android supports internet calling; Call > Setting > Internet Calls
Samsung sometimes disable it in some regions via CSC feature.
/csc/features.xml : <CscFeature_Contact_EnableIPCall>true</CscFeature_Contact_EnableIPCall>
Enables SIP calls, but it doesn't seem to be working on my Note 4.
Do any of you have internet calling enabled? If yes, can you post your /csc/features.xml file?
Thanks.

anyone got a solution for this?

I can't download it from play ... i suspect it doesn't work on lollipop and the developer made the choice to block it for lollipop devices ...
i'll search the apk and try it ...
but i guess the apk is playing with the settings too, maybe someone could give a hint on what and where to change in the settings
thanx for the answer!
wifi sucks too since lollipop ...

Hi guys
internet call works fine on Note 4
if you create a contact with a SIP profile (like [email protected] - may be done online and synchronized) and try to call it then you receive an error and the setting to add any SIP accounts open. register and call works fine.
after my test i removed all SIP accounts in order to force the error again and enter the menu.
I guess if i don't remove all those accounts the the menu is vanished forever.
I wasn't able to activate the setting for allow to receive calls.
So...
It works but the menu-entries are disabled. Shame on you Samsung!
My hope One of you freaksters and androidteers can do something however to enable those two entries in the call settings menu.
live long and prosper
Ben
PS
You can remove the SIP accounts as long as you can open the setting in the "history" but better kill after your experiments

any news on this one ?

How do you manage to remove your SIP account ?
I manage to have SIP enabled with CSipSimple : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.csipsimple
But the calls to mobiles don't work.
EDIT : Damned ! That was tough !
I managed to launch the SIP settings window with adb.
This is the command
Code:
adb shell am start -n "com.android.phone/com.android.services.telephony.sip.SipSettings"
And you're done !
The settings window for adding an account is here. You can now delete/add acounts
You can install Quick Shortcuts Maker too. Look for "sip" in the normal search. There's only one answer.
But better, search for "account" and create a shortcut to Phone Account Settings. You can now choose to receive the calls, define which account must be used for calls, create/delete/modify accounts.

If you install Nova Launcher you can access loads of hidden functions, including Phone Account Settings. To do this you add a Nova widget called Activities, scroll down to Phone (third instance with 96 sub-entries), and from the list of sub-entries select Phone Account Settings. Then use the shortcut it creates to access SIP account settings, and voila.

VoipCall 0.2.1 PDA + SmartPhone (31-05-2008)

Development of VoipCall has been stopped.
VoipCall 0.2.1
In the VoipSMS thread people started asking for a similar program for calling. So here it is
It's a first trial. If you've got some suggestions; let me know.
Requirements
You need the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 to run VoipCall.
Instructions
In order to use VoipCall, it's important to configure it first.
Go to options and set the following values on the first tab (Application Settings)
Pause sign: p (lowercase, this is default, however unlikely your phone might have a different sign)
Default country code: this is a digit code which will be used when no country code is set.. For The Netherlands it's 0031. For Germany 0049 etc.
Use '#' Sign: set to true. This will add an '#' sign to the end of the number to call. This is needed by VoipBuster.
Accounts (second tab)
Add a new account by tap and hold on the list of accounts. Enter a friendly name and the number.
The number can be retrieved over here: https://myaccount.voipbuster.com/clx/accessnumbers.php?form=profile
(Login first and then go to : 'Make VOIP calls from your fixed/mobile phone)
Select your country and a city. The number displayed must be filled in on the VoipCall settings)
Done.
Now you can use VoipCall ;-)
Just select a contact or type a number in the textbox at the top. and press the call button.
Have fun!
Versions
There are two versions available;
- For PDA/PocketPC
- For SmartPhones
The SmartPhone version has some limitations. It does not support favorites and currently only 1 account. Hopefully I can change this soon.
PDA
Changelog
Version 0.2.1 (31-05-2008)
- Parenthesis in numbers will be removed in order to make calls.
Version 0.2 (22-05-2008)
- Move favorite down/up in contextmenu on favorites
- Delete all favorites
- Order favorites fixed
- Phonepad will be visible during call
First attempt...
Hi Mathieu,
Thanks for the app! I tried it but I have few comments:
1. After configuring the app and using a country code where I'm at right now (France) it looks like the app tried to call to my own number...?
2. I saw that VoIPbuster actually has a Java app where you enter your own number and the other party's number and when you click "call" it dials back to you and then connects you to the other party. Can your app use the same method?
The reason I'm asking for (2) is because at least for me, I travel allot and I would like to redirect my call to either a local landline or other mobile phone which is different from the one I registered; doing so will be very useful...
I noticed that the app (also the XP app) using UDP to communicate with VoipBuster so I'm not sure if this is an open interface that they publish or not but it will be very useful!
Again, Thanks allot for the efforts!! Let me know if I did anything wrong and why the app initiated a dial to my own number after selecting someone from my contacts to call to...
Gil.
Hey,
Some quick answers.
1. Did you enter the correct number for the account? It must not be your number, but the service number from VoipBuster.
For France it's: 0170909535
2. I've to take a look at that app. I'm aware of its existance. Unfortunately VoipBuster is not giving away a lot of information. But I'll take a look at it.
Another option is to configure multiple accounts. You can switch accounts at the bottom of the main screen.
Ok, now it's clear
So I will have to enter the local access #. I will try that tomorrow morning...
Let me know if you have more information about phone-to-phone using two numbers (my own number and the number I want to call to) it has lots of benefits when one is abroad and using a pre-paid SIM card... if VoIPbuster will call me instead of me calling out - I will not be charged locally for the incoming call. I will only have to pay VoIPbuster charges which is much cheaper...
Thanks!
Gil.
hi Rhapsody, that was quick! didnt expect it so fast.. great idea and it looks like another very nice app...
ive been having some trouble with my voip calling from the internal wm6 possibility, so i cant wait to try this one
The VoipBuster rates for calling to your mobile number and the number you wish to call apply (plus a callsetup fee of 5ct). Costs for the calls will be settled via your VoipBuster account, so make sure you have enough credit.
Example: You are in the USA and wish to call a landline in the UK. You pay a callsetup of 5ct plus a rate of 18Ct/Min + 1Ct/Min = 19Ct/Min
Click to collapse
It seems like you also pay for VoipBuster calling you.
I've uploaded a SmartPhone version.
Unfortunately I was unable to add favorites functionality as well as multiple accounts. Hopefully I can add this soon.
Rhapsody is the best
Rhapsody,
I've sent you an email with some additional information I've found for better automation of betamax services.
Take a look, let me know if some of these functions can be part of your client, it will be REALLY COOL if it can be implemented and make your program even more complete
Gil.
Thanks!
In the meantime I was also searching for some more information but without success...
I'm gonna check my mail now
Does it work only with Voipbuster? I only have account with Voipstunt..
It should work with every VoipBuster clone.
what about?
what about freecall.com? can I use this with account in freecall.com? imho freecall much better than voipbuster. they offer more countries to call for free, and free sms as well.

FreeCall.com seems to be another Betamax client, so the answer is yes; you can use this app for it.
In fact; the required settings are identical to VoipBuster. (http://www.freecall.com/en/geo.html)
VoipCall installation
Hi Rhapsody,
I use "VoipSMS". It's great, thank you for it.
I' ve tried to install "VoipCall", as well. Unfortunately, I can't select any provider nor can I define a new one because the "Account" tab is unaccessible, it is grey. Is it normal? My gadget is an Asus m530w smartphone with WM6 Standard OS.
I use "fring" with "Poivy" settings. It works fine. I' d like to use "VoipCall" with "Voxalot". Could you advise me the required parameters for selecting Voxalot, please?
Best regards,
tipmix

I cannot find anything about Gizmo on this issue on their website.
The only thing you need (for now) is a service number to call. This service number is a computer where you can enter the number you want to dial through the voip provider.
Gizmo is not a Betamax client so I think it's not possible.
Further I'm waiting and hoping for some help from VoipBuster itself. I've dropped a question at my contact at VoipBuster about if it would be possible to implement calling like on their website (that the service calls you and the recipient).

I don't know Voxalot. (Seems like there are thousands of Voip Providers)
The only thing you need to get it to work is a service number.
I'm not sure but you could try a number from this list: http://www.sipbroker.com/sipbroker/action/pstnNumbers
I'll try to look at the account issue asap. Thanks for reporting.
I am confused by the overall VOIP concept??
Is it truly free, or do I still have to have Skype or a similar account?
What other software must be loaded for your progiie to work?
Thanks so much!
pardon my ignorance, but I am not sure what this program is for. If you are calling a service number or if the service is calling your phone, aren't you charged airtime on your phone anyways? Or is this really a way to get international calls cheap or free using standard local airtime?

[Q] SIP protocol/Internet calling

Hi,
Im using a samsung note 4 SM-910G. Im disppointed with the sip/internet calling feature being taken away. Anyone know how to enable this feature that was available on note 3?
I used to be able to make internet calls or voice calls when i tap the contacts.
Thank you
Here too, with the 910C version. Really unbelievable, is a feature of Android.
I'm using the Bria program now, but is not the same. I don't know why but work worse than the standard.
Actually it is there but samsung have made it hidden. There is hidden option to add SIP account. But i think there are nice third parti apps are good like Bria and SipSimple
Still you needs native let me know then I will make simple application that will open hidden samsung option.

Hi
Thanks for the replies guys...using the thrid party app is kinda cumbersome especially when making a lot of calls to new numbers using SIP...the native one was great if you have the option to make either types of calls when dialing....if any could retrieve thia old setting that would be geeatly helpful...
Cheers

Found solution, Just download google native dialer apk (dial), After configure your sip account and just uninstall google native dialer you still be able to receive calls, Didn't work for outbound call but if you want just continue using google native dialer.

Shame that Samsung disabled it. I'm on T-Mobile version of Galaxy Note 4. With this SIP widget, I was able to bring up the account setup page. But I still could not make calls through VOIP. WTF
No more SIP after Lollipop
After Lollipop Update unfortunately Sip Widget stops working as well. Anyone out there with a working soution? Native support preferred... Thanx!
It seems to be a API change on lollipop. SIP Switch Widget is aware of that (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.siebeck.sipswitch).
So there is still hope.
Native SIP on a Samsung Phone
Hi All, I've had a problem trying to locate the native sip details on my Samsung mobile and could not find it in the normal place, after much searching on the internet everyone was suggesting installing a third party app I wasn't keen on that.
After a few days playing around with the phone, I managed to find it, you will need to trick the phone below is how i done it
1. you will need go on you pc, open up your browser, go to the google page then sign into you gmail account that is associated the phone
2 then click Gmail on the left hand side clickGmail then select contacts
3. you will then need to create a new contact for example 'Office' in the phone field type 'Extension [email protected] or dns name', ie [email protected] or [email protected], then save
4. Now go into you phones contacts, you will see the contact Office now dial it, then phone will then say there is internet call setting you will need to add it, add all the required details and press save, wait till the phone says registered if not edit and check the details. Once this section of the settings gone there is no way to find it again so be careful
To make a sip call you will need to log on to google via a browser and add a new phone details under an existing name or create new details 'Extension [email protected] or dns name'
This works for me and I hope it works for you

Worked for me, thanks!
The first time I tried to add the account (I use voip.ms) it didn't allow me to save. I had entered data into a couple of the optional fields. It let me hit discard, so I discarded and added again. This time, I didn't add any optional fields. It accepted my account info and displayed it in the accounts list. I then edited the freshly added SIP account and added the data into the optional fields which it this time let me save.
Damn you Samsung, damn you....
Tried on Verizon Note 3... Worked!
Tried on Verizon Note 3, But I need to change the settings again! Anyway to clear without resetting the phone? What is the file location for the settings? Can we just edit the XML File. I remember doing something like that years ago!

Any Idea about same in Note 5?
Probably partly solution
Well, still have no official solution. So I dare to offer you one which works for me:
1. You should to install any app that give you ability to activity access (something like QuickShortcut Maker - sorry can't post links by rules restrictions)
2. Run it and find there in activities dropdown menu: Phone "com.android.phone", and there: Phone "Sip Settings (com.android.phone/com.android.services.telephony.sip.SipSettings)". Tap on it and choose "Create" link.
After these actions you will have ability to manage your SIP accounts.
Tested on SM-N910F 5.1.1
Hope it will help you folks and burn in hell Samsung for these disrespectful jokes.

Hi,
Sorry to bother you but what version ROM are you using?
I've updated to N910FXXS1DQC3 which is 6.0.1 and I still can't seem to access the SIP menu without the workaround.
Also, it seems broken to me as outgoing calls are making a loud static sound while incoming calls are fine.
Thanks.

No. Xiaomi removed that feature for some reason.
I've found a solution about a month ago, it works well.
install QuickShortcutMaker
click on "Ricerca incrementale" and select "Ricerca normale" (based on the Italian version of the app)
search "sip"
click on "sip settings" and next on the button "Provare" (maybe "Try" in english)
click on the button + on the top, configure your SIP account
uninstall QuickShortcutMaker

Works fine to add new SIP accounts but Xiaomi has removed other things such as choosing which account to use to make the call (works only with SIM accounts): a workaround is to duplicate an existing contact with only sip telephony.

On Oreo 8.1 August 2018 receiving SIP calls works fine for me.
My providers are sonetel and sipgate.
On the Xiaomi Mi A1 it is not possible to configure VOIP / SIP as described:
https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/2811843?hl=en
With the help of external tools I was able to set up a VOIP account in the A1
and got it to log into a SIP VOIP service provider.
-Install Activity Launcher from play store.
-Open the app and hit All activites from the drop down.
-Scroll down to Phone Services and open it
-Scroll down to SIP Settings open it
-This opens the settings dialog in which you add an account.
-Open the regular Phone Dialer and open Settings/Calling Accounts.
-Open All calling accounts and enable the account you added earlier.

I did it exactly that way: no way to make incoming calls work.
When I enable the account previously added to "Calling Accounts" (Dialer / Settings), the account name is displayed twice while in "SIP Settings" it is written that call reception is not active.
My provider is local (account is created from a FritzBox) and i've Oreo 8.1 with August 2018 patch. (EDIT: my phone is not rooted.)
Thank you anyway

Unrooted phone here as well.
I get double listings as well - as I use 2 incoming accounts, the list shows 4 entries.
(Have you enabled the accounts by hitting "All calling accounts" and then set the respective switch on?)
It seems weird to me that you can't receive calls, as in SIP accounts both my accounts show the notification "Receiving calls".
And of course incoming calls ring fine.
I use these SIP accounts to receive incoming calls to int'l numbers both through my fritz!box 7490 as well as to my mobile when away from home.
Sonetel provides free trial accounts I think. Perhaps you try that.
Good luck!
V
There's an app "Galaxy SIP accounts" which helped me to enable outgoing SIP calls:
It makes my A1 stock dialer to ask whether to place a call through an inserted SIM or through a SIP account.
In other words: SIP incoming and outgoing calls can be enabled on the A1 without going through a 3rd party app.
So Xiaomi - why do you hide the stock settings menus???
After October security patches, dialing out even works better.
Before the latest update, the outgoing number had to be selected twice.
Now dial-out selection is like it should:
Thank you

SIP + Native dialer

Greetings,
I'm currently using an app to make voip calls, but I would like to use the native android app. Ive set up SIP account, once I make a call it pops up a window where it asks for which sim card i would like to use, the added sip account is there, but if i select it, it pops up another window, asking the same question, but in this time without the sip account. What should I do? What might be reason behind this issue?
Thanks in advance!
