Video Player for MP4/Xvid/DivX/etc - RockPlayer - EVO Shift 4G General

I have been digging around for a video player to use with my Shift that supports XviD and MP3 audio. Well I finally found one called RockPlayer, but it seems like it only works correctly on Sense ROMs. It is built off ffmpeg and works lag free 100% using NFX Shift 2.0, but the latest CM7 starts playing the first 0.5s and then stops. I attached the player APK; maybe some of you can take a look and report back what ROM you are using & your experience. Thanks

rockbox was cool but didnt play anything i had smoothly. i went from the epic (which plays virtually everything) to the shift with plays virtually nothing. i just downloaded arcMedia from the market (free) and it works very well. been watching movies off of it for the last week and never had a problem. this is running awesomerom (sense based).
just my $.02

Thanks for the response & advice. One conclusion from all my tests is that you need a SENSE ROM in order to get proper video playback using MPEG4+MP3. I've tried some ASOPs like CM7, Evervolv, and others, but none work so I will keep on trying until I can release a fix.

Try using MoboPlayer. It's free on the market.

I've used Rockplayer and it's buggy, slow, and won't play all types of files. MoboPlayer is superior in every single way. Plus, it's free. It's the VLC player equivalent for Android haha.

im using vital player and it seems to work fine for me

i came from the n900 multimedia powerhouse tablet and this is like a full downgrade lol
in this category anyway
Hmmm this is a bit of a blow.... I was just looking at getting a Legend or maybe Desire but With no decent movie player it could be a non starter
Out of interest I notice that the Legend is similar specs to the HD - how does it compare? anyone had both.... I find the HD sluggish with later WinMo ROMs and Android to be honest.
Rockplayer Plays it all.....
Its in public beta for now.

yeah i was going to say what about rock player, its in public beta but it plays it all. might as well grab it while its free even if it is a tad bit buggy since its a beta. plus i'm pretty sure it plays everything, even divx

Rockplayer is working great on my legend so I would say no...
the new rockplayer public beta has support for armv6 / legend
Im glad there is a nice player finally no need to convert that much anymore saves a lot of time
I hope they update it and stays free

What will happen with Rockplayer if the public beta time is over..Anyone know something about this?
1. Will be blocked (unusable), except you pay for it (pay app)?
2. Continue as freeware and with tons of new updates?
I am in desperade of having a good FREE video player. ^o^

Flash? Why isn't anyone complaining.

I just got froyo and a special flash apk that fixes the hulu.com mess. I can't deal with the choppiness that the new android flash has. Does anyone else have this problem? Its not even worth watching videos if the flash player constantly stops to buffer. I tried finding fixes for this but I don't see anyone trying to figure this out. Is this adobe's problem?
I used it to watch adult swim and it didnt stop once and was very crisp. This was over 3g also.

I hardly use hulu, but tried it just to see how the flash works. I'm an avid Twilight Zone fan, and searched and watched some episodes. Running off of wifi (since I have horrid service at my house), the video was highly watchable, when fast action was on the screen it stuttered a little bit, but never stop / froze / became unwatchable. Love it. ♥
Isn't the flash plugin still in beta right now?

I'm using sky raider 1.9, nothing about beta, and I didn't have to download flash from the marketplace like some people had to with the Cyanogen mod.
Was going to say it might just be the built-in flash plugin for sense, but I checked the market place and didn't see it there, but saw "Adobe Flash Player 10.1" in my applications under "All". No beta tag there ;D

I have the same build.
Flash is in beta right now. Beta 4, if memory serves.
When I am watching hulu.com it says a warning at the top before it plays " This video is not optimized for mobile viewing" I have 4 bars of service and it still struggles with a small 2 min video.
EDIT*I did download a week ago an apk that tweaked the flash player so that it would work with hulu.com
Kinda hard to complain running an unsanctioned version of the OS and a beta Flash player.
Give it 6 months, and then you'll have ample opportunity to complain.
In order to watch flash videos at hulu.com do you have to update the flash.apk with the tweaked version?
Where can i get the yweaked ver

I am not sure if it is flash we are having problems with. Maybe its the cache? It seems that the like 20 secs into a flash video it starts to get choppy. Maybe its the cache getting full. I have noticed when I run a different browser the flash player plays differently. I think the skyfire browser was the best so far at playing flash.

absolute best VIDEO player for honeycomb?

So far i have tried rockplayer and moboplayer....rockplayer had a lot of FC's because I don't think it was compatible, plus the video playback kinda sucked
I recently tried Moboplayer and it works great...even saves where you left of on multiple videos
is there anything better? Thank you
i swear by rock player, not an issue yet. Maybe try reinstalling? Other than that, what does it need to be able to play?
Yeah WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 12 / VLC MEDIA PLAYER.......

Moboplayer seems to have a lot more downloads, hence popularity
I mainly use rockplayer and the stock one......
Both are made by the same dev of believe. Mobo is much better than rock however. Be sure and have the latest codec pack installed.

Mobo player doesn't dim (and by dim I mean turn them into small dots) the os buttons and time at the bottom, this is the sole reason I am considering uninstalling it, but I haven't found one to beat it yet.
Does it "dim" for anyone else?

I like the way control volume, brightness on moboplayer.
Feature-wise Moboplayer still has a lot of room for improvement. But in terms of codec support and performance (some stuff that wasn't smooth on other players played smooth as silk on Moboplayer), MoboPlayer is my favorite.

yea same here...its very neat
Mobo doesn't play very smoothly in software mode for 720p content... Unfortunately the Xoom doesn't playback enough formats natively so software mode is a necessity...
I swear by MoboPlayer as well, though sometimes I drop back to RockPlayer Lite just to see how it handles things. Love how Mobo remembers where you've left off regardless of how many movies/videos you've watched in between.
On the other side of the spectrum is mVideoPlayer, it has an awesome interface but only supports stock Xoom codecs. They recently updated to support sub/idx support for subs, but that whole stock codec only support kind of ruins it for me. I use this for any YouTube videos pulled w/ TubeMate.
I tested QQPlayer as well, it's not too bad but I was really searching for subtitle support so I could enjoy foreign flicks on the road. It didn't really offer much aside from srt support, but I figure I'll keep it in the hopes it'll see more development in terms of sub support (I believe it's developed in China or Korea, so sub support would have a higher priority).
any players allow you to make playlists? I like to fall asleep with a few episodes of stuff in the background
FWIW -- QQPlayer plays everything that I need it to play....
Vital Player is the best player on honeycomb I love you can turn the volume just using the screen.Same goes for brightness & full and widescreen.Vital Player updates regularly.

Mp4 won't play in cyanogenmod 7

I recently put cyanogenmod 7 on my Evo. I have some movies on my sd card in mp4 format that I've always played using Zimly player when I had the Fresh build....Now Zimly doesn't see them, and when I try to open them from es file explorer,i get an error. Is there something I need to install to make these work?
NM....re-installed Zimly in the new build and it works fine now...
Maybe the app isnt 2.3.4 compatible yet if you "recently" installed cm7 and it worked before. Have you tried another app from the market like qqplayer or vplayer?
Oops...all is not well afterall
Now Zimly "sees"all the movies, but it will only play a couple of them....it would play them all on the fresh evo build...
I'll try qqplayer
What codecs are the movies? What resolution? What bitrate?

Video playback in cm9

Hey guys!! First post but im daily xda atrix forum visitor. Anyway, I installed the new cm9 beta 5.0 yesterday. It works great and I love it (thanks jokersax!!). I have been goin back and forth between cm9 and cm7 for the past 3 months. I love cm9 but there was always a couple a nagging issues that prevented it from being my daily, therefore, I always reverted to çm7. I thought this version cm9 was going to be my daily; up until an hour ago. Playback of videos are bjorked. Videos that have been working perfectly fine in previous versions of cm9 are so sloe and choppy in 5.0.
Sorry for the long post but any advice would be appreciated. Btw I spent the last hour searching the boards and Google but did not find anything. Sorry in advance if this has been posted before.
TIA!!!

Use MX Player with software decoding. Hardware video decoding on ICS is borked until we get proper drivers.
OK thanks! I figured that was the case. The only reason I asked is that I could've sworn playback was working on previous versions on cm9. OK thanks bro!!
On a side note. What is the video recording app everyone is using since thats been borked for a while and does Skype video chat work?

Thanks for the quick reply!!! When trying to do Max players code I get this error: "incompatible with other applications using the same shared user id"
I looked everywhere an couldnt find an answer.
Thanks guys

Uninstall older versions first. If that doesn't work, try clearing market data.
Skype and GTalk video chat don't work, but Tango definitely does. just FYI.

I got same thing on MX 1.6. Fixed for me by downloading to PC from MX website, transferring files to phone, and installing from phone afterwards.

thanks but mxplayer still was extremely choppy (with soft decoding enabled) and i tried mobo player and put it on soft decoding and the videos are also very choppy. i guess all type of video playback is borked in cm9

Hmmm... I'm getting fairly good results with MX Player. But I re-encode my videos for the Atrix's screen size (max. 960x540, if source is smaller, keep source resolution). 720p (and up) movies are still choppy. I guess our CPU can't handle decoding HD resolution movies using software only.

oooo ok i see what ur talkin bout. im sorry i wasnt clear enough. i was talkin about playing my videos that i shot with the video camera (before i had cm9). although i guess it would be the same thing. i shot those videos in 1080p so i guess like you said the cpu cant handle it. that stinks! i was hoping to play my videos to family when i get back to NYC. i could always save the vidz on my computer then re-encode them i guess.
o well, thanks again!!!
