So far i have tried rockplayer and moboplayer....rockplayer had a lot of FC's because I don't think it was compatible, plus the video playback kinda sucked
I recently tried Moboplayer and it works great...even saves where you left of on multiple videos
is there anything better? Thank you
i swear by rock player, not an issue yet. Maybe try reinstalling? Other than that, what does it need to be able to play?
Yeah WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 12 / VLC MEDIA PLAYER.......

it doesn't seem to be optimized for HC...keeps FC'ing on me
Moboplayer seems to have a lot more downloads, hence popularity
I mainly use rockplayer and the stock one......
Both are made by the same dev of believe. Mobo is much better than rock however. Be sure and have the latest codec pack installed.

Mobo player doesn't dim (and by dim I mean turn them into small dots) the os buttons and time at the bottom, this is the sole reason I am considering uninstalling it, but I haven't found one to beat it yet.
Does it "dim" for anyone else?

I like the way control volume, brightness on moboplayer.
Feature-wise Moboplayer still has a lot of room for improvement. But in terms of codec support and performance (some stuff that wasn't smooth on other players played smooth as silk on Moboplayer), MoboPlayer is my favorite.

yea same here...its very neat
Mobo doesn't play very smoothly in software mode for 720p content... Unfortunately the Xoom doesn't playback enough formats natively so software mode is a necessity...
I swear by MoboPlayer as well, though sometimes I drop back to RockPlayer Lite just to see how it handles things. Love how Mobo remembers where you've left off regardless of how many movies/videos you've watched in between.
On the other side of the spectrum is mVideoPlayer, it has an awesome interface but only supports stock Xoom codecs. They recently updated to support sub/idx support for subs, but that whole stock codec only support kind of ruins it for me. I use this for any YouTube videos pulled w/ TubeMate.
I tested QQPlayer as well, it's not too bad but I was really searching for subtitle support so I could enjoy foreign flicks on the road. It didn't really offer much aside from srt support, but I figure I'll keep it in the hopes it'll see more development in terms of sub support (I believe it's developed in China or Korea, so sub support would have a higher priority).
any players allow you to make playlists? I like to fall asleep with a few episodes of stuff in the background
FWIW -- QQPlayer plays everything that I need it to play....
Vital Player is the best player on honeycomb I love you can turn the volume just using the screen.Same goes for brightness & full and widescreen.Vital Player updates regularly.

Just got the A500 this week, extremely excited. Coming from my EVO the Honeycomb works similar, but different than my smartphone (CM7). One thing I'd noticed, is that none of the current Froyo/Gingerbread video player will play .RMVB files on this tablet.
Does anyone has a solution? Or I'm just whacked out? Thanks.

The general consensus is that as of right now Honeycomb on these tablets is only playing certain profiles of media and file types. For me, mp4s encoded at 1080p and under play but some are stuttered while others aren't. This has to do with profiles which I don't know the details about (there's a post somewhere around about it, either in here or in the Eee Pad Transformer section).
Now personally (so this is speculation), I think Tegra 2 can play everything so we just have to wait for updates to enable it all. Forget playing anything right now from your collection OR you can always encode your stuff to the specifications of what the tablet will run nicely now...which is, /shrug.
I've been using MoboPlayer and it seems to play every format I've thrown at it, but I don't have an rmvb to test.

I have been digging around for a video player to use with my Shift that supports XviD and MP3 audio. Well I finally found one called RockPlayer, but it seems like it only works correctly on Sense ROMs. It is built off ffmpeg and works lag free 100% using NFX Shift 2.0, but the latest CM7 starts playing the first 0.5s and then stops. I attached the player APK; maybe some of you can take a look and report back what ROM you are using & your experience. Thanks
rockbox was cool but didnt play anything i had smoothly. i went from the epic (which plays virtually everything) to the shift with plays virtually nothing. i just downloaded arcMedia from the market (free) and it works very well. been watching movies off of it for the last week and never had a problem. this is running awesomerom (sense based).
just my $.02
Thanks for the response & advice. One conclusion from all my tests is that you need a SENSE ROM in order to get proper video playback using MPEG4+MP3. I've tried some ASOPs like CM7, Evervolv, and others, but none work so I will keep on trying until I can release a fix.

I've used Rockplayer and it's buggy, slow, and won't play all types of files. MoboPlayer is superior in every single way. Plus, it's free. It's the VLC player equivalent for Android haha.

The software needs to decode it.. it's not all about the hardware. Samsung added all the "usual" codecs to TW

I use CIFS to stream video from my Windows server to my TF. Problem is that I never could get more than around 800-900KB/s even though my network is WIFI N and can push at least 2-3MB/s.
Here is a fix, using CifsManager, add under Options(eg. domain=android,ro)
directio
Now you can get around 2MB/s CIFS bandwidth. Just enough to stream high profile 720P h.264 vids and more. It really did make a huge difference on my TF. Hopefully it will help yours.
how do i add another to the options, i already got "iocharset=utf8" in my option field.
Just seperate the options with a comma....

Until someone who know comes along, I'll give you my best guess. Usually, stuff is separated with a semicolon. One of these ;

Just an offtopic Q: what media player are you guys using on the android side?
I can sucessfully play stuff via UPNP with no hassle, but it omits .srt files and many of my DVD rips are subtitled and UPNP players omit the subtitles files.
I'd like to try streaming via CIFS - with the help of cifsmanager I can browse the shared file directories fine, open docs on the CIFS-shared drives etc, but when it comes to streaming moboplayer and several other random players can't seem to "find" the media files when I browse, using the player interface.
I'm looking to try different players and wondered what you guys were using to sucessfully stream movies from shared drives, with.

I use Diceplayer which can decode ac3 in software and h.264 in hardware as well as tons of other formats in hardware. Also use Vplayer since it can decode damn near everything. And I have Moboplayer for good measure. Diceplayer is amazing, only player that can can do 720P HD w/ac3.
I still haven't found a player that can handle 720p MKV with DTS. AC3? Sure. But not DTS. It takes too much power to decode it would seem.

We're clearly running different Transformers. DICE is only as fast as Tegra2 failware allows, and Tegra2 cannot process files with bitrate>2000, or crf<21. Which happens to be every single 720p mkv release ever made. (some, like bd based releases have bitrate of 9000).

Na, the problem is the decoding of the ac3 stream. Combine this with the cpu usage for the video decoding and 1000Mhz is not high enough for smooth playback.
I have no problem to play high Profile 720p videos with over 2000kbit and aac audio.
I don't want to hijack the thread, but i was wondering if the stock rom has the required cifs module needed for cifsmanager to run....
I'm asking because i have a rooted tf101 and when i try to run cifsmanager it says superuser permission denied....does that mean it's trying to get permission to something that isn't there aka the cifs module or is there something else wrong ??
I know i'm rooted because i just did the left speaker fix.
I've tried some other cifs connection programs too and i get the same error.
if it doesn't have what i need do i have to load a new rom that has the cifs module in it or can i just install the module
You probably need to read the logs; I know from exp that it works on Roach's Prime ROM's.

I'm using Dice Player, MX Player, and BS Player. BS seems to work the best, but still not as good as Dice was back in HC.
Does anyone know if it's just a matter of those apps having to be optimized for ICS?

Well it's not ICS that is killing some 720P file, it's the Tegra...

I confirm the same, Bsplayer plays the audio but not the video . As for the Dice it always crashes ! I will lnstall Revolution HD 3 and see if this will play the 720p videos !!!
all those having issues- you need to reboot.
also bare in mind that video playback issues are not the OS's fault, Tegra 2 is underpowered to play video at 720p and 1080p, always has been, always will be.

me too, you need to do an ICS reinstall, my video playback is the same as on revolver now.
rebooted around a dozen times between lockups and just actual reboots, i've noticed no difference in any app.

There was a thread somewhere about best settings for Handbrake for encoding mp4 to suit the Transformer. These are the settings:
"Start with the Regular/Normal Preset
Container: MP4 File
On the Video tab, choose:
Video Codec: H.264
Constant Quality: RF 24 (Lower number is better quality but higher file size, I wouldn't suggest going lower than 20 in this case)
On the audio tab change the Mixdown to "Stereo", bitrate 160
On the Advanced Tab:
Maximum B-Frames: 0
Uncheck "CABAC Entropy Coding"
Uncheck "8x8 Transform"
Uncheck "Weighted P-Frames"
After those changes, you can save these by clicking on Presets -> Save Preset and name it something like "Transformer". "
This is an exact quote of the post, I don't have the original on hand to thank the original poster. But he does deserve my thanks, as this made 720p video beautiful on my FT101.
Doesn't work so well when streamed via wifi, I think 802.11G is a little too slow, maybe I need to go to 802.11N. Works fine via a portable hard disk, or a microSD card, or even a USB stick. If you have the dock or the usb converter adaptor thingy.
Sorry for those who don't have access to a grunty PC for converting using handbrake, I guess my post isn't much help to you. I'm waiting until I get my TF101 back from a warranty repair to try a few things out, including ICS. I'm currently running Revolver, and I'm VERY happy with it.. kudos GNufabio.

well one person got reported for being a douche.
and yes, i'm well aware of how to flash a rom.
most of us here however are running stock ICS from the update with no root or anything like that. So simply saying reinstall ICS is not a very intelligent statement.
If i have an issue with my nexus i know how to back it up and reinstall because i have CWM installed.
however on this, as i just said, i'm running a totally stock device. i've never rooted, never installed a custom recovery, and i don't want to.
and personally, i also think the suggestion of installing ICS is BS and won't make a difference.
anyway, thank you @squire-au for that. i have seen that post and have been hoping there would be another way since totally encoding can take a very long time. but i will be testing that out overnight to see what happens.
