1. Fired up Odin,

One of the links in the prior posting refers back to froyo. Thanks for all your help in advance.. i'll flash the modem tomorrow when i'm home and go from there. Just to add another question, now that I am in gingerbread firmware, should this phone get rooted? And if so a link to the instructions are would be great...thanks
Simply enabling 850 won't work.
Refer to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
You can use JPG, JQ1, JVK, etc, with 850mhz 3G ONLY if you follow these steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=438
You MUST flash from an 850mhz base modem (UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4) to BVJJPD or BVJJPG, and then to your destination modem; specifically following the steps as noted.

OK so since the KC1 modems are hard to find for Cyanogen I will upload one that I created. Basically if you want to create your own, you have to get one of the radio packages (doesn't matter which, I grabbed anyone) then grab a legit copy of KC1 Rom from samfirmware.com once you do both, open the KC1 rom with winrar or 7zip and look for modem.bin. Extract this file and save to your computer. Then open the radio for CM7 that you downloaded open it with winrar or 7zip and look for modem.bin in that. ONce you find that, just drag and drop your extracted modem.bin file from the KC1 ROM into your downloaded CM7 radio and make sure you click replace.
This creates a flashable KC1 radio for CM7 just rename it to KC1 so you know it's that version
It is signed so you flash in recovery v3.x
ONLY FOR CM7 NIGHTLY 14 or earlier: (things have changed so once nightly 15 is released I will upload a compatible script)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FDNBWEQO
The way to flash this:
1) place the downloaded radio file on your internal SD card.
2) reboot your phone into recovery mode (hold power, select reboot, select recovery, click ok)
3) use the volume rocker till you get to "install zip from sdcard" and click the power button to select
4) use volume rocker to navigate to "choose zip from sdcard" and click the power button to select
5) use volume rocker to navigate to "radio-cm-7-GalaxyS-KC1-signed.zip" and click the power button to select
6) use volume rocker to navigate to "Yes - Install radio-cm-7-GalaxyS-KC1-signed."
7) after it's done hit the back button and then select reboot system now
NOTE: if you follow those steps you shouldn't have a problem, but if you brick your phone for whatever reason I am not responsible.

KC1 includes the 850 band if your phone has the hardware for it.
Just a question. I'm on MIUI/cyanogen right now as well. JVO and JVK both support 850 out without doing any tricks flashing other modems first... is the signal strength a lot better on KC1 compared to those two?
I'm not sure if this modem is better or not....all I know is that this modem is what bell recently pushed so it works for our region. as for the JVO and JVK those roms are both 2.3.3 based so they might work better for our phones runing the CM7 rom since it's 2.3.4 based.....not sure though.
KC1 works fine for me though

I had JVO on the rom I flashed and never noticed a problem until last weekend skiing on Blackcomb Mt. Up on the hill where I always had service on KC1 & JL2, the phone said "Emergency Use Only" on calls and "Network Not Available" on data. I did a *#1234# and saw JVO as the modem. AHA!! That night I flashed KC1, and had no problem making calls and web browsing the next day on the mountain. I believe KC1 was to fix a roaming problem for Bell customers traveling through the U.S.

For battery life on CM7/MIUI and Darky's v10, definitely JVO over JVK and KC1.
Actual signal performance in day to day use I can't say yet, I was going to test it out over the next little bit.
I haven't noticed any dropped calls or anything of the sort on any modems yet. But then again I only tried one battery cycle on KC1.
Signal strength is roughly the same between the few places I walk around at work (including a few places I get only one bar of signal strength) as far as I can tell over the past day. But I don't get the emergency call only messages I sometimes got on JVO when at low signal strength locations.
So I guess for people it'll be a tradeoff between the roaming fix issue or better battery life.
Thanks mate this is the only modem that works here in australia for Telstra Next G

Hi spectre85
Thanks for the modem!!
It seems CWM modem packages have changed starting with build 05282011. See some packages provided by codeworkx here: http://codeworkx.de/download/cyanogenmod/
Readme.txt says that new modems shouldn't be flashed on older CM7 roms.
I compared the old and new package for JPK and modem.bin is the same in both, the only difference is the scripts used to flash it.
I'd create a KC1 package in the new format but I'm not sure how to sign it .
Caosorio,
No worries I felt that since enough were asking (I also did) I thought I would just create a new thread and thanks for that link I have been looking for the new radio scripts. Once the build 15 is released I'll update this post, wouldn't want anyone flashing a radio that doesn't work ha.
Also you don't need to sign them, after you dump the modem.bin file in the zip file, it for whatever reason, stays signed even though you are changing a file....
Man sorry to said that to you but I LOVE YOU lol
Now I'm able to use CM7 properly with signal

I just bough a nexus s with ics 4.0.3 and i have signal issues. I live in cyprus and i heard that i have to find the radio /baseband file for my region. can anyone please help me??? and also tell me how to do it pls!!!!
anyone can help me please!
what model do you have ? is your phone rooted?
model of phone behind battery
gt9020a is not rooted
I'm pretty sure its rooted lol.. I have the i9020A ... Official ICS hasn't come out for that model yet. You have a Custom Rom Right now. Was it sold to you with the boot loader unlocked?
- Google
yes it was sold to me like that
i bought it from USA.(ebay) I live in Cyprus. is from at&t the phone
What kind of issues do you have? Is it no signal at all?
If you go to settings | About Phone, what 'Baseband version' do you currently have?
If you dial *#*#4636#*#* under Phone Information, do you see your carrier information?
You can find all Radios on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
These would need to be flashed via CWM. Just make sure you backup your EFS folder
how can i install the radios??? my baseband is I9029XXKI1. i did that with the *#*#4636#*#*
You would need a rooted phone (unlocked bootloader) and ClockworkMod recovery installed. Download PROPER radio for your device. Also make sure you backup your EFS folder. Copy downloaded file into the SD Card.
If you are on i9020a, most likely you are already have this rooted and unlocked (since you have ICS). Power off the phone. Now press volume up + power. This would take you to the bootloader. Scroll down with the volume towards Recovery. Press Power. This will take you to Recovery. Make sure you have ClockworkMod or TWRP installed. Go to 'install zip from sdcard'. Press power. 'Choose zip from sdcard'. press power. Look for the downloaded file and press Power. Scroll to yes and press power.
Again, make sure you backup your EFS folder and other data just in case something happens. You might want to read a bit about rooting, flashing before doing this procedure.

Try them one by one and see with which you get the best reception.
how can i put the on the phone(i am not so good on that kind of things sorry)
Cyprus is 2100mhz, At&t is 1900mhz.
3G on i9020a will never work in your country, you had to buy i9020T or i9023.
i don't want 3g i just want signal. and the 3g works. i putted a sim card from cyta and it works perfect in cyprus. my problem is that mtn's sim card makes me problem
i9020a should have these three bands for 3G:
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
If you connect MTN's simcard on another device, does it works fine? What happens when you insert this simcard? No signal at all? it drops? Bad reception? Do you see any difference on 'Phone Information' when dialing *#*#4636#*#* on MTN's sim and CYTA?
same with both cards.i have to change the baseband but i don't know how to do it

in mobile network it says 'UMTS' i was able to make "wcdma only" work (i had to reset the network settings with ##72786# and make the unlock process again) but when is going to connect to 3g it gives me the "LTE esm 29 cannot establish wireless connection" error..also after the reset there is a green circle telling me to activate the phone in sprint (this was a phone with bad esn if im not wrong)..
i used hiapn and all that stuff, upgraded modem to MJA and nothing yet.. i also followed a guide that was made for tmobile.. going to the service menu and modifying a bunch of stuff but it did not work either.
i dont know what else to do.. maybe the issue is that the phone is not activated on sprint?? but im using it outside de US, with a non US sim card.
and yes i also tried gsm/umts a lot of times .

You'll obviously need to be sure the hybrid modem is installed. Beyond that as I recall, I had to "force" it to see the LTE network by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting "LTE only" for the connection. After that I was able to set it to "LTE/GSM auto" and it has worked correctly since.

The Android software version number and baseband (modem) version will be listed. If the last 2 digits of the baseband version is greater than 33, you will not have LTE capability.

To perform the "Flash" I use the Nexus Root Toolkit. which can be found here.
I hope this helps you. Let us know how it goes
This is perfect! Thank you!
I'm noticing that the settings done keep after a reboot. I don't have to reflash the modem, but I do have to go back into the 4636 settings to re-enable LTE. I've heard this might be fixable in the build.prop? Any thoughts?

Can I do this straight from the phone or from a laptop? And what zip app do I open it with?

You do it straight from your phone. Download the file, boot into your Recovery, go to the folder you saved the file in (likely in your "Downloads" folder, and just flash the .zip file from your Phone's recovery, and it will do all the necessaries.
It worked flawlessly when I flashed that zip from recovery. All relevant settings changed from 3G to 4G and HSPA to LTE. Speed went from 10 to 36mbps (Telus Canada). ROM is 5.1.1 LMY48T

Thanks that got almost work for me but it says its for android 5.1+ and I am on android 6.0.1 aosp ROM.
But after that I flashed this and bingoo. I can use LTE only in Android 6.
Used this http://www.mediafire.com/?2thymqa7fiiyrqy
Now I can able to click on 'only LTE' from phone info
And it stays at LTE only.
Before this when I goto phone info and it got gsm or wcdma even I click on LTE now its working for me.
I found that zip file from anywhere else I don't know where so I had uploaded and shared here.
Here is what I found about version check. Give it a try if you wish
a) expand nexus-4-lte-enabler-v2.13.zip
b) edit META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script
c) replace 5.1 with 6.0.1 in this line
( is_substring("5.1", file_getprop("/system/build.prop","ro.build.version.release")) )
d) update zip with new file
e) flash zip

Hello,
I am in South Africa and I can not get data to work. I have validated all settings:
Data Roaming is on.
Cellular Data is on
Preferred Network Type is Global (I have also changed to LTE / GSM / UMTS with no success)
I have removed SIM card / placed back in.
I have reset all network settings
I have placed into Safe Mode
I have called Verizon Global Support and they have validated all settings.
All without success
Android Version - 6.0
Security Patch level - November 1, 2015
Is there anything I am missing? This is frustrating.
on your phone dialer type *#*#4636#*#* then from the top menu select change band and select USA band and restart your phone.

Thanks - I forget to mention I did in fact try that previously without success as well.

Sorry, I did not previously perform the step you out-lined. I thought you were referring to restarting the band.
I just did as you instructed and now the phone is not connecting to the South African networks(previously phone and SMS worked.
Now in the Cellular Network Settings, there is a new option 'System Select' which is selected to 'Automatic' with the other option 'Home only.'
Ideas?

Did you check you have all the APN's setup in your device? you should see 6 in that list. Verizon Internet APN should be selected.

With regards to the APN, I only have four:
EHRPD - VZW Roaming CBS
EHRPD - VZW Roaming IMS
LTE - VZW Roaming FOTA
LTE - VZW Roaming Internet
And nothing is selected.
@chichu_9
Can you help? After selecting USA band, phone is no longer connecting to the cellular network...

Change your band to Band 6. turn off your phone and restart.
As for System select, it should be set to Change CDMA roaming Mode. Preferred network type, set it to Global.
For APN, if nothing is selected then select the one that says, Roaming Internet.

Sorry added more comments take a look at it. I had a similar issue in Mexico, I made the following changes to make it work. Once you get your network connected, then you can go back and change it to USA band if you want.

I also did a factory reset and still not working??

OK, if none of those are working. Then your best bet is to reflash a radio. You will have to unlock your bootloader, Go to fastboot mode and use the flash all script, to reflash a factory image to your device.
There is a thread in the General help section, that can guide you thru the process. Remember unlocking bootloader will wipe your phone clean.

So, I'm going down that path, downloaded the 'angler' image for the Nexus 6P, unlocked the bootloader, issue ./flash-all.sh and it comes back(using terminal on mac) and says:
--------------------------------------------
Bootloader Version...: angler-02.01
Baseband Version.....: angler-02.15
Serial Number........: xxxxxxx
--------------------------------------------
checking product...
FAILED
Device product is 'angler'.
Update requires 'bullhead'.
__
I need to download 'bullhead' then - although it says that is for the Nexus 5x? Feel like something is jacked.

Something is not right. It should ask you to download Angler not Bullhead. Dont install Bullhead on your device. Do you have the right version of ADB fastboot?

I'm an idiot. I downloaded 'bullhead' instead of 'angler' from the beginning. Flash is going through now - hopefully this will fix the radio problem. Will report back shortly.
