Memory questions - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi Android system info has the following data:
Internal: 590MB
SDCard: 2043MB
RAM: MAX:353MB
Here in Greece they use to lock part of the RAM of some devices
Whats your total RAM?
should i be worried?

Same question here , i hope its normal.

its normal and i have the same figure in Elixir..
its said that part of the 512M RAM has been reserved for the GPU unit as our CPU MSM7230 is integrated with display unit (Adreno 205)..
from a chinese forum someone claimed this reserved part as 128M, though i had no proof of this claim from any other source..
and theres also a small portion of RAM (remaining 32M) used for internal system (also quoted from the same guy mentioned above)

can you tell me of a nice startup manager so that i can prevent applications from starting as my mobile restarts?

It is mounted as /HWUserData if an external SD is mounted.

Yes, but what can you use it for?
Camera stores pictures to sd and you can't change it. Most of programs use only sd or internal. What about music, is stock player able to find files from hwuserdata?
And of course we can't install apps to there either.

Internal memory?

I just got my htc legend and decided to install a few apps on it. After that it felt a lil laggy so i decided to check my available memory left, strangely it said i only had 85mb left...
i decided to test this by uninstalling every app i installed and my internal memory was still only 150mbish. So if i am correct my legend only came with 150mb memory???
I checked my app management and summed it all up and the numbers just dont add...?
I thought the legend had 512mb internal memory...?
anyone have a clue where the rest could be?
thx.
it has 512mb yes but that 512mb is also holding the Os and all the stuff that came with it so the usable space is much lower this is usually the case when you buy any device.
if you want more app space root the phone shift the apps to the sd card along with the caches

Can Nexus S use 16 GB for apps?

Since it's internal memory, can/will all 16 GB be used for apps?
Nope, it's partitioned. Something like 2gb is partitioned for apps, and the rest shows up just like an sd card would.

Interesting. But at least then, is it an actual 2GB? Because that's still a hell of a lot more than the ~200 MB I have currently.

Ah, interesting. I just asked a question in another thread wondering if we could EXT partition the built in memory, but if they section out space that is awesome, especially if it's 2GB as my current EXT is 1GB and it's not even near full.
lol..I think we're the same group asking the same questions.
Doesnt seem anyone is certain. Problem again is forward thinking. 2gig Enough now ? Sure...but what if I want to cache a crap ton of maps ? What if all this 3d/opengl nonsense actually does help game devs what then...games will get larger and larger. Will it be enough for 6 months or a year from now ?
This is exactly how rumors start. When has google or samsung said that the Nexus S will only have 2gb for apps?

While it is true no one stated this officially.... the captivate does this exact thing. 16gb built in with 2gb squared off for app storage.

I can't remember where I read that the iNand is partitioned. I can't find the source now... I thought it was the Techcrunch review of the Engadget preview, but no dice. If I'm wrong, then I'm guessing it's on large partition with a .secure folder like Froyo.
Look at this picture from Engadget. I am guessing from this, it is just 1 GB for the apps.

Edit: To be precise, it is the picture 44 of 53.

If you're using the phone as a media player, 16gb is definitely not enough for songs and videos and ebooks. What about photos? Not to mention map cache files for any navigation app you are using.
That's why some of us need removable storage...
what I really don't get is that flash memory is pretty damn cheap...why don't they go for broke with the storage?

Who cares? 1 GB is still 5 times more than what I have now.
By the time that becomes a limiting factor for me, it'll be time to upgrade again
Is this how all Galaxy S phones currently work? 1 GB of app space? Does anyone have one handy?

I had a captivate (but got rid of it to get a nexus one) and you do get 2gb of app storage. I had about 200 or so apps installed with about a gb left.
With the n1 with dark's a2sd, I had to cut back on a lot of apps, about 130 now, and about 30mb left on the phone. Without darktremor's a2sd, i would probably only get 50 or so [small] apps

Don't worry, xda will have a partition hack in about 2 days after release
1GB for apps/cache is a lot.
I currently have ~700MB partitioned off for apps2sdext. With the cache moved to this partition along with apps and app-data, I'm 68% full. This is with 213 apps.
Remember that games usually use the sdcard for their files.

It should have a huge amount of app storage, because apps can be installed on the data partition and the SD card/storage partition. It's probably about 200MB for the system partition, the rest can be used for app storage. On the Galaxy S phones and Galaxy Tab running 2.2, which have SD slots, you can install apps either on the data partition or the internal storage, not the SD card.

Yep, 1gig for internal storage (for app installs/etc..), and 14gigs for internal "external" storage.
Odd because other Galaxy S phones (Captivate/Vibrant), has 2 gigs for Internal Storage and 14 gigs of internal "external" storage.

[Q] HTC EVO Shift Defective??

So I bought my HTC Shift 4G but i think it's Defective. I've called HTC, Sprint, and Bestbuy. The 3 companies say the Phone Has 2 GB Internal Memory(ROM). However my Phone only shows 432MB :
203 MB Apps
69. MB System
159.6 MB Free space
Could it be Defective or They just don't know what they saying.
Would u guys tell me if ur devices are showing the same ??
I bought this phone cuz the 2GB. I'd hate to return it and get the big EPIC!!
thanks!!
I got 431 for applications(internal storage)
I figure the rest is system reserved by the fellows at HTC. That is where the OS/kernel is located. Probably locked away/system mountable only, to prevent us from obtaining root. ( any of you fellows who know better can feel free to correct me.) Just based on knowledge of linux etc. Not much in depth on the droid
Sent from my Evo Shift 4G using XDA App
I'm pretty sure it does in fact have 2GB of internal memory, however it seems like a big chunk of that is taken up by the operating system and maybe some is reserved for system storage/app caches/etc. Not 100% sure but I think that's why.

Yeah what he said.
No conspiracy theories, just information...
Check here: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=2946
It gives you the specs.
This is what I got from Root Explorer:
/app-cache - 4k used, 8.00MB free
/cache - 31.21MB used, 111.01MB free
/data - 351.02MB used, 80.70MB free
/dev - 12K used, 186.59 MB free
/devlog - 4.04MB used, 15.82MB free
/etc - 288.83MB used, 102.53MB free
/system - 288.83MB used, 102.53MB free
I'm not a dev so can't interpret it correctly but it does seem there's lots of memory here and there that could probably be partitioned to the /data folder for more app storage once perm root is achieved.
EDIT: I've removed lots of stock apps so your numbers will not match mine.
The first Shift that I picked up from Best Buy was indeed defective. Not because it wasn't showing the proper amount of memory, but because it locked up on me 5 times in the first hour that I had it. All I could do to get it to turn off is battery pull, and then when I put the battery back in i had a really tough time getting it to turn back on. They swapped it out for me, and my new one has been flawless.
i'm wondering (don't quote me on this) if the extra internal storage is hidden/locked by HTC so there will be room available when the new sense drops? i've heard it's a lot bigger than the current version with the stand-alone navigation/maps that it's going to bring with it.
Has anyone ripped one apart and checked all of the chips on board?
I would take it back to the store and exchange it.
Phone should have around 256mb for apps (With all the stock apps installed)

Do you think Xoom 1GB internal memory is enough?

I keep asking this question, how big is the space for apps?
But got no answer from anywhere.
Well, I searched and searched, found this:
http://xperiaandroid.com/motorola-xoom-specs-and-release-date.html
" ... Xoom is armed with dual core processors have speed of 1 GHz. In addition, Xoom also powered by a internal memory 1 GB, 32 GB internal storage capacity and can be enlarged by using the SD card. ..."
I think, that 1 GB is for app and the 32 GB is the "internal USB storage" kind.
Or is this the RAM?
Come on, why no one cannot give info about the 32 GB internal memory
A lot of people went to CES, MWC ... still no info

I believe the 1GB number is the amount of RAM the Xoom has. The 32GB number is the amount of storage space the Xoom has. These numbers are inline with most other tablets that are coming out or that are out.

There may be only 1GB of application storage space though. Android phones have always had a limited space for installing apps.
RAM is used for running apps
Internal storage is used to hold movies, music, etc..... in this case apps as well
as far as running out of space you should search threads on apps to SD

And there could also be 10GB of storage for apps. Nobody knows and it's pure speculation at this point. for all we know, it may even be adjustable on Honeycomb, so you can dictate how much space to reserver for applications.

how about everytime we install an app it takes up a certain amount of space, then we know how much we have left. IF we had something like that it would be amazing. I think there is something like this included with the Xoom, but it's pure speculation at this point.

Why does it matter now? Google figured out how they wanted to install apps to the SD Card, you think they made that functionality so rigid that they can't install to the eMMC storage instead?
It's probably "up to 32gb"
Because some times, you just cannot control it.
There are apps that can only be installed in the internal memory.
It is just a simple question though, but it seems no one, not even those from popular news websites / blogs can answer this question. Although they have handled, fondled, played around the Xoom at CES / MWC *sigh*

He's new to Android. Give him a break
The internal memory "SDcard" ( either 16G or 32G) is partitioned into two pcs. 748Mb is used for program storage and the remaining 13.1G is used for user data and program data. The external SDcard is referred to as removable storage in 3.1. There are several good memory usage apps which will show you how much memory ( and where) each app uses. I use Disk Usage.
